No. 5 HENDRICKCARS.COM Chevrolet Camaro ZL1

MICHIGAN MAN: Kyle Larson earned his first NASCAR Cup Series victory at Michigan International Speedway in 2016, a win that was part of a streak of three consecutive triumphs in the Irish Hills (the last three wins for Chevrolet at this track). In his 15 starts at Michigan, Larson has three victories, seven top-five finishes, nine top 10s, has led 222 laps and completed 2,770 of 2,876 laps run.

WIN-DIANAPOLIS: In July, Larson earned Hendrick Motorsports’ record-extending 11th Brickyard 400 victory, his first on the famed oval and his series-high fourth win of 2024. With 27 career victories, Larson now ranks 32nd on the Cup Series wins list. The crown-jewel win at Indianapolis marked his 11th victory in the Next-Gen car, tying him with Hendrick Motorsports teammate William Byron for the most.

FOLLOW THE LEADER: With three races remaining in the regular season, Larson leads the Cup standings by five points. The Elk Grove, California, native, tops the series with four wins, five poles and 28 playoff points. He is tied for second with nine top-five finishes and is in second alone with 780 laps led. That total is the second highest through 23 races in Larson’s career, behind only his 2021 championship season in which he paced the field for 1,468 laps in the first 23 events.

UP FRONT IN THE GREAT LAKE STATE: The driver of the No. 5 HENDRICKCARS.COM Chevrolet has a streak of four consecutive top-10 finishes at Michigan. In that span, he has an average finish of 4.5 while pacing the field for 72 laps.

WELL DEFENDED: Last weekend at the Knoxville Nationals, Larson led all 50 laps to capture his third victory in the famed sprint car event. It marked the second consecutive year he led wire-to-wire at Knoxville Raceway.

SEASON UPDATE: With three races remaining in the NASCAR Cup Series regular season, Chase Elliott heads to Michigan International Speedway third in points, only six markers behind the leader, Hendrick Motorsports teammate Kyle Larson. The 28-year-old has one win (Texas Motor Speedway), seven top-five finishes and 12 top 10s. Elliott’s 10.43 average finish leads the field and is the second-best mark through 23 races in his career behind only the 2022 season in which he won the regular season championship. He also has the third-best average running position (10.98) and the fourth-most laps spent inside the top 10 (3,410).

HISTORY MADE: With his ninth-place finish last weekend at Richmond Raceway, Elliott is the first driver in Cup Series history to complete all but one lap through 23 races in a season. The previous record was all but two laps, a mark set by Kevin Harvick (2020), Greg Biffle (2012) and Matt Kenseth (2003). The only race this season in which Elliott didn’t finish on the lead lap was at Bristol Motor Speedway in the spring, though he still finished eighth.

IRISH HILLS READY: Elliott holds the best average finish (10.15) among active drivers with more than three starts at Michigan and the third-best all-time behind Carl Edwards (9.4) and Cale Yarborough (9.61). He has placed inside the top 10 in 10 of his 13 career Cup Series starts at the 2-mile oval – tied for his third-most top 10s on active tracks behind Kansas Speedway and Martinsville Speedway (11 each). The Dawsonville, Georgia, native has also led 144 laps and collected three top-five finishes at the Irish Hills track – all of which were runner-up results.

STOUT GROUP: Elliott is in good company as one of five drivers with three or more runner-up finishes at Michigan before earning a win. Hendrick Motorsports vice chairman and NASCAR Hall of Famer Jeff Gordon earned three second-place results before visiting victory lane at the 2-mile oval in 1998. Elliott joins Brad Keselowski and NASCAR Hall of Famer Terry Labonte with three runner-up results without a win at Michigan. Martin Truex Jr. has four.

700 STARTS FOR AG: On Sunday, Alan Gustafson is set to make his 700th start in his 20th season as a Cup Series crew chief. The 49-year-old is the longest tenured crew chief in the history of Hendrick Motorsports. He has earned 39 premier series victories – tied for the second-most among active crew chiefs – 201 top-five finishes and 349 top 10s with over 11,000 laps led. In addition to Elliott, Gustafson has worked full seasons with NASCAR Hall of Famers Gordon and Mark Martin as well as Kyle Busch and Casey Mears. The Ormond Beach, Florida, native captured the 2020 Cup Series championship with Elliott.

GREAT GUSTAFSON: Gustafson will call his 36th Cup Series race at Michigan on Sunday. In 35 prior starts with five drivers, Gustafson has collected two wins (Martin in 2009 and Gordon in 2014), five top-five finishes and 17 top 10s, with 370 laps led. Gordon started from the pole in 2014 and his qualifying lap stands as the fastest qualifying speed that did not occur at a superspeedway.

FASTEST FIVE: With 23 races complete, the No. 9 pit crew holds the fastest average four-tire pit stop time (10.687 seconds). The over-the-wall squad laid down the fastest four-tire pit stop (9.076 seconds) of the season at Texas in April, according to data from Racing Insights. The 2021 Mechanix Wear Most Valuable Pit Crew award-winning group is comprised of Chad Avrit (rear-tire changer), Jared Erspamer (tire carrier), John Gianninoto (fueler), Nick O’Dell (front-tire changer) and T.J. Semke (jackman).

GET UP AND GO: NAPA Auto Parts is back on the No. 9 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 this weekend. The Atlanta-based company has been the primary partner for Elliott for all but three of his Cup starts on the 2-mile oval, including all three of his runner-up finishes. Get a look at all the angles of the No. 9 NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet here.

MICH-AGAIN: On Sunday, Hendrick Motorsports will seek its ninth Michigan International Speedway win and the team’s first at the track since 2014. Five drivers have won NASCAR Cup Series races for car owner Rick Hendrick at the 2-mile venue: Jeff Gordon (three wins), Dale Earnhardt Jr. (two), Jimmie Johnson, Mark Martin and Ricky Rudd. Gordon recorded Hendrick Motorsports’ most recent win there on Aug. 17, 2014, nearly 10 years ago to the day.

THE HALL CALLED: The NASCAR Hall of Fame has launched “Hendrick Motorsports: 40 Years,” an exhibit presented by NAPA Auto Parts that showcases the history of the 14-time NASCAR Cup Series champions. The exhibit brings the organization’s storied history to life by providing an in-depth look at the race team and the people who built it. Milestones from its earliest days to the current 2024 season are showcased through the artifacts and photographs, many of which have never been seen by the public. Six cars, six 80-inch video monitors, descriptive graphic panels, more than 75 individual artifacts, and 160 photographs comprise the exhibit, which will be on display through May 2025. Click here to learn more.

LEADER OF THE PACK: A Hendrick Motorsports driver has led the Cup Series regular season standings following 17 of 22 races thus far in 2024. The organization has also seen its drivers ranked 1-2 eight times this year. Hendrick Motorsports is the only team with four drivers inside the top 10 in regular season points.

THE LAST 35: Over the last 35 Cup Series events, Hendrick Motorsports has not gone more than three races without a win. In that span, the team has logged 13 victories (most by five), 42 top-five finishes (most by three) and 73 top 10s (most by 10). At least one Hendrick Motorsports driver has finished inside the top 10 in 34 of the 35 races.

QUOTABLE /

Kyle Larson, driver of the No. 5 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, on racing at Michigan International Speedway: “I’ve always enjoyed racing at Michigan and I’ve had a lot of success there, including my first Cup win. We have three races left in the regular season and we’re working hard to win the regular season championship and get those 15 extra points that go along with it. I would love to get another victory at Michigan — for the HENDRICKCARS.COM team and for Chevrolet in their backyard.”

Cliff Daniels, crew chief of the No. 5 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, on outlook at Michigan International Speedway: “We’re looking forward to going back to Michigan – an intermediate track with a lot of speed. It’s a great track to showcase all the good things of Hendrick Motorsports. We’ve got great Hendrick horsepower and our cars are competitive. Kyle is always great here and, again, we’re just looking forward to getting back to a big, fast place. Strategy, how you call the race and the very last green-flag pit cycle are always very important.”

Chase Elliott, driver of the No. 9 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, on what it would mean to win at Michigan International Speedway: “I’ve never done it, but I have to imagine it’d be pretty cool, with it being a home race for Team Chevy and with Michigan being what it is. I think that would be a huge deal and I’d love to check that box for them. And I know every driver does for every manufacturer, whoever you’re driving for. It would be a really cool thing, and I’d love to add that to the list of accomplishments.”

Alan Gustafson, crew chief of the No. 9 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, on the keys to performing well at Michigan: “The biggest thing about Michigan is you have to have stability. You have to be able to really carry a lot of pace with this car into the corner and really have comfort to do that. And if you can do that, you can kind of load the car and the exit is important. The old car was a little bit opposite. You wanted to get this real big arc and this huge drive off and this big run down the back straightaway. It seems this car has transitioned to where we carry a lot of throttle down into the corner. That was always the irony about Michigan. If you can use a lot of throttle you burn a lot of gas and that’s why I think that races traditionally come out to a fuel mileage race or can be, because the guys who are really good are just in the gas a lot so burn a lot of fuel, use a lot of throttle. That always comes into play.”

William Byron, driver of the No. 24 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, on the importance of winning at Michigan International Speedway: “This is always a big race for us being in Chevrolet’s backyard. Everyone wants to be able to bring the win home for them at Michigan. It’s about bragging rights for the manufacturers and we want to be the ones that help them do that. We’ve had decent success there before but I think we have a good setup to bring there this time around. I’m excited to get there and see what we can do, especially to build momentum before we get started in the playoffs.”

Rudy Fugle, crew chief of the No. 24 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, on why he enjoys racing at Michigan International Speedway: “Michigan is one of my favorite race tracks. It’s a track where sometimes the fastest car doesn’t always win and you can have some different strategy plays that can happen. Overall though it’s a really wide race track with multiple grooves. You usually want to be good on the bottom and then move to the middle-to-high lane which becomes the fastest as your tires wear out. It means you really need to bring your A-game, and what better place to do it the Detroit area where the manufacturers are located.”

Alex Bowman, driver of the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, on racing at Michigan International Speedway: “It will be nice to get back to Michigan International Speedway. We were super-fast there last year before the No. 48 crashed, so looking forward to getting back there and hopefully we are even stronger there than we were last year.”

Blake Harris, crew chief of the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, on competition at Michigan International Speedway: “We return to the track this weekend looking to build some momentum. We had a rough weekend in Richmond, so we look to come back better in Michigan. We ran a pretty good pace last year. Unfortunately, we were having to call the race to either win or not. We currently sit in a pretty tight points battle remaining in the top 10 for (the) regular season. We want to collect as many playoff points as possible and hopefully go for another shot to win on Sunday.”

PT Autosport set to tackle Road America

A new number and a new ride for Henry Drury in this weekend’s doubleheader at Road America

MILLVILLE, NJ (August 15, 2024) – Precision Racing LA w/PT Autosport and Henry Drury head back to Road America this weekend, with Drury moving behind the wheel of the SEGRA-sponsored No. 44 GR86 for the Toyota GR Cup doubleheader, part of the SRO Motorsports America event.

The weekend will be a single-car effort for Precision Racing LA w/PT Autosport, which moves the 24-year-old English born, Tampa, Fla. resident into the blue SEGRA livery. The weekend marks the first Toyota GR Cup event at a track Drury has raced at before, having driven a Spec Boxster in a Porsche Club of America event in his last race of the 2023 season – and missing out on his first victory by the slimmest of margins. But despite everything Road America and the surrounding area has to offer, when the 24-year-old English born, Tampa, Fla. resident thinks about Road America, he thinks about…

“Cheese,” said Drury. “Completely serious response. I mean, one of the billboards has a cheese company on it (Sargento, based in nearby Plymouth)! And, of course, it’s a pretty awesome track, one of the “big boy” tracks – the kind of place you grow up wanting to race at, like Watkins Glen or Indianapolis. It was only my third race ever in 2023 so I’m looking forward to going back with the knowledge I have now, to see what The Kink is like in a Toyota GR86. Last year, Alex (Sedgwick, Porsche Carrera Cup driver and Drury’s driver coach) said that Road America was ‘always fast, sometimes scary’ but I think it might always be scary!”

Every racer looks forward to a Road America weekend, and PT Autosport team principal Jason Myers is no exception.

“We’re excited to be back in Elkhart Lake for the second time in three weeks!” said Myers. “It’s such a historic track, beautiful area, and the most amazing fans. It was packed for the IMSA weekend and I’m hoping the same for SRO.

“Henry had a great drive at VIR and was running P6 in the first race until an unfortunate clutch failure. I think that him and Alex running together was a great learning experience for Henry, and I think Alex had fun as well – and it’s always good to have race seat time! PRLA has been delivering us a consistent quality car all season and we look forward to tackling Road America in our GR86, and to see how Henry does here now that he has a good deal more experience under his belt compared to last year.”

The Toyota GR Cup series will contest two 45-minute races at Road America – race one will take the green flag Saturday at 2:55 p.m. ET, with race two Sunday at 1:15 p.m. Both races will be broadcast live at www.grcup.com.

Toyota Racing Weekly Preview 08.14.24

This Week in Motorsports: August 12 – 18, 2024

· NCS/NXS: Michigan International Speedway – Aug. 17-18
· NHRA: Brainerd International Raceway – Aug. 16-18
· ARCA: Michigan International Speedway – Aug. 16 Illinois State Fairgrounds – Aug. 18

PLANO, Texas (Aug. 14, 2024) – NASCAR is back in the Midwest and Michigan International Speedway where the Cup and Xfinity Series take battle as both regular seasons continue to wind down. The ARCA Menards Series holds two races this weekend, one at Michigan on Friday and the other at the Illinois State Fairgrounds on Sunday. The NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series is back in action at Brainerd International Raceway with two races remaining before the Countdown to the Championship.

NASCAR National Series – NCS | NXS

Reddick, Hamlin make up ground on points lead … The fight for the all-important regular season championship is heating up with just three races remaining before the Cup Series Playoffs. After their top-five finishes at Richmond Sunday night, Tyler Reddick (second) and Denny Hamlin (fourth) both made up ground to the points lead heading to Michigan this weekend. Reddick is now just five points behind the championship lead, while Hamlin sits just 21 points back. Christopher Bell jumped a few spots to sixth in the points standings after a Stage 1 win Sunday night and is joined by Martin Truex Jr. (eighth) and Ty Gibbs (11th) inside the provisional playoff field. Bubba Wallace also continued his strong run of late with a fourth-place finish at Richmond and is now inside the playoff field, sitting three points above the cutline.

Reddick continues his top-10 streak … With his strong third-place run at Richmond, Reddick now has six consecutive top-10 finishes and nine in the last 10 races as he’s methodically carved his way up the points standings to second position, which is a career-best. In total, he has 16 on the season, the most in the Cup Series. Another such finish this weekend in Michigan may propel the California-native to the points lead depending on how the race shakes out.

Hamlin seeks another strong Michigan run … Like most tracks on the NASCAR Cup Series schedule, they bode well for Hamlin and the No. 11 Camry XSE team, and Michigan is no different. The 43-year-old has six consecutive top-10s at Michigan International Speedway and 11 in the last 16 races heading into the weekend. Like Reddick, another such finish or better would be monumental as Hamlin looks to cement himself as the regular season champion in a few weeks’ time.

Smith, Creed still well within Xfinity Playoffs … As the Xfinity Series returns for the first time since the Olympic break, Toyota and Joe Gibbs Racing’s Chandler Smith and Sheldon Creed are both well within the Playoff field with six races remaining in the regular season. Smith is already locked in the Playoffs with his two wins earlier this season and sits fourth in the points standings, while Creed sits in eighth position, 69 points above the cutline.

Earnhardt back in No. 26 GR Supra … For the first time since Talladega Superspeedway, Jeffrey Earnhardt is back behind the wheel of the No. 26 Toyota GR Supra for Sam Hunt Racing. Earnhardt has made two starts so far this season in the No. 26, including an eighth-place finish at Atlanta back in February. Saturday will be Earnhardt’s 171st career Xfinity Series start and his sixth at Michigan International Speedway.

NASCAR Regional Series – ARCA Menards Series

Breaking barriers … Across the two ARCA Menards Series races this weekend, Venturini Motorsports will be making NASCAR history with four female drivers piloting their Toyota Camrys, the first time four women drivers have raced for the same team in the same race. Toni Breidinger and Amber Balcaen will partake in both races with their full-time duties, while Isabella Robusto and Taylor Reimer will challenge the Illinois State Fairgrounds race on Sunday. For Reimer, this will be her second career ARCA Menards Series start, making her debut at the fairgrounds last year and finishing eighth. She’s also coming off a late model race win at Hickory Motor Speedway last weekend. Robusto makes her third ARCA Menards Series start on Sunday, looking for her third top-10 finish of the season also.

Sawalich looks to continue winning ways … In his eight ARCA Menards Series starts this season, William Sawalich has five victories, including three-in-a-row heading to the Illinois State Fairgrounds on Sunday. The Minnesotan has also finished inside the top-five in all but one race so far this season. He makes his second start at the fairgrounds this weekend where he finished fifth a season ago.

NHRA – Top Fuel | Funny Car

Kalitta makes history at Brainerd … This weekend marks a monumental occurrence for Doug Kalitta, Kalitta Motorsports and the NHRA as the defending Top Fuel world champion makes his 600th career start, the first time anyone has reached that number in Top Fuel history. Kalitta seeks to make the milestone weekend another triumphant one, going for his fourth win of the season and to extend his category points lead, which currently stands at 125 over teammate, Shawn Langdon, with just two races before the Countdown to the Championship.

Brown, Capps seek Brainerd repeats … Antron Brown and Ron Capps roll into Brainerd International Raceway with hopes of repeat victories in Top Fuel and Funny Car this weekend. Both former world champions currently sit fifth in their respective points standings, and a win by either or both would be enormous as they look to build momentum heading into the U.S. Nationals and the Countdown to the Championship.

The NASCAR Cup Series and Xfinity Series travel to Michigan International Speedway this weekend with only three races to go in the Cup Series regular season and six to go in the Xfinity Series.

The ARCA Menards Series will get the racing action started Friday evening with the Henry Ford Health 200.

Six active Cup Series drivers have previous wins at the 2-mile track:
Joey Logano – 3
Kyle Larson – 3
Denny Hamlin – 2
Chris Buescher – 1
Kyle Busch – 1
Ryan Blaney – 1

Only two previous Xfinity Series winners are competing at Michigan – AJ Allmendinger (2021) and John Hunter Nemechek (2023). But it’s much more likely that we will see a new driver in Victory Lane as there have been 13 different drivers in Victory Lane, dating back to 2010.

The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series is off and returns to competition on August 25 at Milwaukee Mile Speedway.

NASCAR Press Pass will be available throughout the weekend.

All times are Eastern.

Rette Jones Racing and Noah Gragson Ready for Penultimate Xfinity Series Race of 2024

BROOKLYN, Mich: Still riding the positive vibes of their impressive top-five finish in their recent NASCAR Xfinity Series race in late June at Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway, Rette Jones Racing and driver Noah Gragson are glued back together for their penultimate Xfinity Series start of the season in Saturday afternoon’s Cabo Wabo 250 at Michigan International Speedway.

The team’s debut at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway in May generated a lot of buzz and synergy with a strong top-10 finish. Less than a month later, the hard work of the Mooresville, N.C.-based team and the leadership of champion crew chief Mark Rette led the team to their first career top-five finish on a steamy, hot afternoon in Lebanon, Tennessee.

While the heat won’t be as intense in the air on Saturday in the Irish Hills, there’s no indication that the Rette Jones Racing team won’t continue to bring the heat on the track as the duo looks to pull an upset over 125 laps in Brooklyn, Michigan.

“I’m just so thankful for this opportunity to be back with Rette Jones Racing this weekend at Michigan International Speedway,” said Gragson. “Michigan has always been a fun track to race, and with the strength of our Rette Jones Racing team, I feel like we can pick up right where we left off from Nashville Superspeedway.”

Michigan’s massive track size allows a superspeedway-esque-like feeling where horsepower is crucial, and drafting is the key to success. Gragson looks to utilize practice and qualifying to set the balance on his No. 30 Rette Jones Racing Ford Mustang.

“I think it’s going to be important to break up the groups in the Xfinity Series this weekend, much like they do in Cup,” added Gragson. “The fewer cars on the track will give the teams a better opportunity to not only work on the balance – but also give us drivers a much cleaner race track where you don’t have to worry about a lot of cars being out there and perhaps interfering with a qualifying or race run.

“We have a plan for this weekend, and I’m ready to execute it.”

Gragson, a native of Las Vegas, Nev., is poised to make his fourth Xfinity Series start at Michigan International Speedway this weekend. In his previous three efforts for JR Motorsports, he delivered the track-best second in 2019 while following it up with back-to-back third-place finishes in 2021 and 2022, respectively.

One of NASCAR’s most popular drivers can also utilize Saturday’s Xfinity Series race to get more laps under his belt to assist his double-duty weekend in the NASCAR Cup Series with Stewart Haas Racing for Sunday’s FireKeeper’s Casino 400.

“It’s going to be a busy weekend, and while the cars may not drive the same, track time is still important,” added Gragson, who has one Cup start at Michigan International Speedway. “The races are going to be starting at relatively the same time, so I believe there is something that can be taken away on what to expect with how the track will change throughout the afternoon.

“If we can have a good run on Saturday, it’s going to be another confidence booster, which is never a downfall ahead of another race the next day.”

On Saturday morning, Gragson must turn one of the 33-fastest laps in qualifying to ensure the team successfully makes its second Xfinity Series start this year. Without the benefit of owner points, the team must qualify on speed to earn a starting berth in the 38-car field.

This weekend, the team isn’t worried about making the race on speed or the race period despite the threat of inclement weather.

“We were fortunate enough to have no weather hiccups at Charlotte or Nashville,” added Gragson. “This weekend, it might be a different story. We will see. Some things are out of our control in racing, and weather is certainly one of them. We should be good to make the race, though.

“Undoubtedly, we will have the speed to make the field on time. We hope Mother Nature will cooperate and that we’re fine with being in the race on Saturday.”

Rette Jones Racing crew chief and co-owner Mark Rette eagerly looks forward to another productive weekend.

“I don’t think we could have executed our two races together any better,” spoke Rette. “We were able to make significant gains from Charlotte to Nashville, and now we’re heading to Michigan eager to do more of the same.

“We’ve had some time to massage on this race car and I believe Noah will have the ingredients to get the job done. I hope Mother Nature plays well and we’re in the race. I know I have a talented guy behind the wheel, and I look forward to seeing him get down to business on Saturday afternoon.”

Racing not far from the Motor City, it only makes sense that Ford and Ford Performance have joined the organization as the team’s primary partner for Saturday afternoon’s race.

In addition to the previously planned NASCAR Xfinity Series races at Michigan International Speedway and Darlington (S.C.) Raceway in August, Gragson will compete in the upcoming final ARCA Menards Series road course race of the season at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International in September.

RJR will continue to field a full-time ASA STARS National Tour effort for Canadian Kyle Steckly and compete in select ARCA Menards Series races through October 2024.

Steckly recently scored his first career ASA STARS National Tour victory at Winchester (Ind.) Speedway in the Redbud 400.

Since 2018, Gragson, 26, has made 137 Xfinity starts, earned two poles, won 13 races, delivered 63 top-five and 98 top-10 finishes, and finished a career-best second in the Xfinity Series championship standings driving for JR Motorsports during the 2022 season.

Practice begins on Friday, August 16, 2024, from 3:30 – 4:05 p.m. Qualifying immediately follows at 4:10 p.m. The 38-car field is set to take the green flag on Saturday, August 17, 2024, shortly after 3:30 p.m. with live coverage on the USA Network, the Motor Racing Network (Radio), and SiriusXM NASCAR Channel 90. All times are local (Eastern).

TEAM CHEVY NASCAR RACE ADVANCE: Michigan International Speedway

TEAM CHEVY ADVANCE
Michigan International Speedway
August 17-18, 2024

Chevrolet’s drivers and teams in the NASCAR Cup Series (NCS) and NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) will head to the Irish Hills of southeastern Michigan this weekend for NASCAR’s annual appearance at Michigan International Speedway (MIS). After sitting idle for nearly a month, the NXS will return to regular season competition in Saturday’s Cabo Wabo 250 to kick off the doubleheader weekend. The NCS will cap off the weekend with the FireKeepers Casino 400, where Chevrolet will be vying to bring the prestigious Michigan Heritage Trophy back to Detroit.

Chevrolet in the NASCAR Cup Series at Michigan International Speedway:

Located just outside of Detroit – the home of General Motorsports’ headquarters – Michigan International Speedway has over 55 years of experience hosting NASCAR’s top division, with Sunday’s FireKeepers Casino 400 marking the series’ 107th appearance at the track. Chevrolet’s first NCS victory at MIS came courtesy of Cale Yarborough in June 1977, and the manufacturer has since collected 26 all-time NCS triumphs at the track. Among the list of Chevrolet’s past winners at MIS includes Kyle Larson, who has tallied three wins at the venue throughout his storied career – a record that leads the series’ active drivers.

Battling for the Michigan Heritage Trophy:

An additional award will be up for grabs at the conclusion of Sunday’s 400-mile event: the prestigious Michigan Heritage Trophy. Unique to Michigan International Speedway, the award was introduced to the series in 2013 to recognize and honor the winning manufacturer of each NASCAR Cup Series race. Since its debut, Chevrolet has brought the Michigan Heritage Trophy back to Detroit six times. Jimmie Johnson delivered the Bowtie brand its first trophy in June 2014, with Jeff Gordon (Aug. 2014) and Kurt Busch (June 2015) giving the manufacturer three-straight victories. The honors returned to Chevrolet when Kyle Larson drove the No. 42 Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet to the win – his first in NASCAR’s top division – in Aug. 2016. The Elk Grove, California, native went on to make it three-in-a-row with a sweep of the victories in 2017.

LOOKING BACK ON LARSON’S ‘FIRST’

For Kyle Larson, a trip to ‘Motor City’ in Aug. 2016 ended with the Chevrolet driver becoming a first-time winner in NASCAR’s top division. The victory came in the Elk Grove, California, native’s 99th career NASCAR Cup Series start. Behind the wheel of the No. 42 Chevrolet for car owner Chip Ganassi, Larson led 42 laps en route to the victory over his now Hendrick Motorsports teammate Chase Elliott. To date, Larson is one of only two drivers in series’ history to claim their first career NCS win at Michigan International Speedway – joining the likes of NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Jarrett. Returning to the two-mile oval to sweep both NCS races the following season, Larson is one of just 10 drivers to record consecutive wins at MIS.

In addition to his three trips to victory lane, Larson has tallied seven top-fives and nine top-10s in his 15 career NCS starts at MIS. Consistency has been key for the former series champion at MIS over recent seasons – collecting results no worse than seventh in his last four starts at the track.

HOCEVAR HEADS HOME WITH ROOKIE STANDINGS LEAD

Chevrolet’s Carson Hocevar is on the horizon of his first career NASCAR Cup Series start at his home track of Michigan International Speedway this weekend. The 21-year-old Portage, Michigan, native has just one start in the NASCAR national ranks at his home track, which came in a Spire Motorsports-prepared Chevrolet in the NASCAR Xfinity Series last season.

Hocevar enters the Michigan race weekend with an extra boost of confidence after a strong performance at Richmond Raceway – netting an eighth-place result to match his career-best finish in NASCAR’s top division. The result was enough to move Hocevar to the top of the series’ rookie points standings, with the Chevrolet driver now sitting at a two-point advantage over fellow ‘Rookie of the Year’ contender Josh Berry.

ALLGAIER LOOKING TO CLOSE IN ON REGULAR SEASON TITLE

With a trio of off-weekends in the rearview mirror, the NASCAR Xfinity Series returns to action this weekend with Saturday’s Cabo Wabo 250 – marking the six-race countdown to the end of the series’ regular season. Heading into the Michigan race weekend, eight drivers have already claimed a win and a playoff berth, with five coming from the Chevrolet camp: Kaulig Racing’s Shane van Gisbergen; Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Hill and Jesse Love; and JR Motorsports’ Justin Allgaier and Sam Mayer.

Earning his 12th top-10 finish of the season at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Allgaier was able to maintain the second position in the series’ regular season points standings with a 56-point deficit to reigning champion Cole Custer. The two-mile Michigan oval has proven to be a strong track for the No. 7 JR Motorsports Camaro SS team, with Allgaier tallying three top-fives and seven top-10s in 12 career NXS starts at the track.

Chevrolet in the NASCAR Xfinity Series at Michigan International Speedway:

The NASCAR Xfinity Series turned its first laps at Michigan International Speedway in Aug. 1992 – an event that saw Todd Bodine power Chevrolet to the inaugural victory. Since then, the Bowtie brand has reeled off victories in 17 of the series’ 31 appearances at the track – earning a winning percentage of 54.8%. Among those victories includes three-in-a-row by Richard Childress Racing (Austin Dillon – June 2018; Tyler Reddick – June 2019), and most recently, AJ Allmendinger and Kaulig Racing in Aug. 2021.

BOWTIE BULLETS:

· Chevrolet will pace the field in the doubleheader race weekend at Michigan International Speedway. The Camaro SS will lead the NASCAR Xfinity Series in Saturday’s Cabo Wabo 250, and the Camaro ZL1 will lead the NASCAR Cup Series in Sunday’s FireKeepers Casino 400.

· With 60 races complete across NASCAR’s three national series this season, Chevrolet has a winning percentage of 51.7% with 31 victories (NASCAR Cup Series – 11 wins; NASCAR Xfinity Series – 11 wins; NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series – nine wins).

· In 106 NASCAR Cup Series races held at Michigan International Speedway, Chevrolet has recorded 26 victories and 27 poles.

· Since the Michigan Heritage Trophy was introduced to the series in 2013, Chevrolet has taken the honor six times, with the last three courtesy of Kyle Larson’s three-peat (Aug. 2016, 2017 sweep).

· NASCAR Cup Series victories by active Chevrolet drivers at Michigan International Speedway:

Kyle Larson – three wins (2016, 2017 sweep)

Kyle Busch – one win (2011)

· In 95 points-paying races in the Next Gen era, Chevrolet leads all manufacturers with 48 victories – a winning percentage of 50.5%.

· Team Chevy’s Kyle Larson and William Byron are the only two drivers with a double-digit win record in the NASCAR Cup Series’ Next Gen era – each recording 11 victories since the vehicle’s competition debut in 2022.

· With its 42 NASCAR Cup Series Manufacturer Championships, 33 NASCAR Cup Series Driver Championships, and 862 all-time NASCAR Cup Series wins, Chevrolet continues to hold the title as the winningest brand in NASCAR Cup Series history.

QUOTABLE QUOTES:

Ross Chastain, No. 1 Busch Light Peach Camaro ZL1

What can we expect at the Michigan race?

“There are some unknowns going into Michigan because we only go there once a year. I’ve been there virtually this week with the simulator and we see a lot of speed. This is our third trip there with this car and last year we led some laps there early and were in the mix so we hope that we take more steps forward. We’ve had two at-bats at Michigan with this version of the car and we hope to continue to make our cars faster.”

What is the racing like at Michigan?

“We are always evolving. A lot will depend on the weather. The cooler the temperatures, the more on throttle time we will have and high speeds. We basically want to end the race almost out of fuel and tires about as old as you can stand and still compete for the win. When you lose grip at Michigan there’s no catching it. There’s no sliding – it’s either all grip and going fast or sliding somewhere you don’t want to be.”

Corey LaJoie, No. 7 Garner Trucking Camaro ZL1

You brought home a solid finish in last season’s trip to Michigan. How do you look to build on that this time around?

“Last year we finished 15th and had some speed in our No. 7 Chevy. I’ve had a lot of solid runs there in the past, so I’m looking forward to getting out there. Thanks to Sherri (Garner) and everyone at Garner Trucking for hopping on board this weekend. Hopefully we can bring home a good finish for them.”

Kyle Busch, No. 8 Lucas Oil Camaro ZL1

Is there any track on the schedule that you can compare to Michigan International Speedway? Auto Club Speedway was similar.

“Fontana was the closest just because it was a two-mile racetrack. It was special to win the last Cup race there in our Lucas Oil Camaro, but the asphalt, grip level, and banking level is entirely different between Michigan and Fontana. Kansas has really aged well and has progressive banking from the bottom to the top so you can run all over the racetrack. You can run to the top, right up against the wall for the majority of the day at Kansas. Michigan is not quite there yet. I’m not really sure anywhere compares entirely to Michigan.”

How big of a factor is the draft at Michigan?

“Over the last couple of years with this new Next Gen car, the draft at Michigan has become less effective in my opinion. These cars don’t quite suck up on the straightaways the way the old cars could.”

Is it refreshing to race at a place like Michigan where you can move around the track and find a line that works?

“Michigan over the years has been pretty lane dominant, but with the addition of the traction compound through the corners, it has led itself to widening out and allowing you to try different grooves. It still isn’t as wide as it once was back in 2013 when you could race along the wall, but it’s getting better and going in that direction.”

AJ Allmendinger, No. 16 LeafFilter Gutter Protection Camaro ZL1

“I’m looking forward to running both races at Michigan this year. On the Cup side of it last year, I had a lot of fun driving the car. It’s a lot of speed, a lot of on throttle time and if you get the car right, you’re running wide open. It’s a race track you definitely have to get you courage up for. We had good speed last year, so I’m looking forward to that. On the Xfinity side of it, winning in 2021 will always be a great memory. This year will be a little different with the aero package. It will be new with learning what we have to do to race the racetrack but it’s a fun place, I always enjoy going there and I think we can have a couple of good runs.”

Daniel Hemric, No. 31 Poppy Bank Camaro ZL1

“Michigan is a place that we all look forward to going to. It’s a track where you get to truly feel the speed, grip, and all the things that make NASCAR racing what it is. This will be my first trip there in this car, so I’m really excited to get on track. It’s always a battle of manufacturers and bragging rights, so hopefully all of us on team Chevy can do our part.”

Zane Smith, No. 71 Focused Health Camaro ZL1

Michigan is the site of your first NASCAR national series victory. How special is the venue to you and your career?

“It’s going to be awesome to get back to Michigan this weekend. I haven’t been back there since my first Truck Series win in 2020. That track is a special place to me, and it holds a lot of great memories that I will always remember. I’m really excited to race there in the Cup car and see what my No. 71 Focused Health Spire Motorsports team can accomplish. Looking forward to Sunday’s race.”

Carson Hocevar, No. 77 Premier Security / Zeigler.com Camaro ZL1

Sunday will mark your first NCS race at your hometown track. What are your expectations and what are you looking to accomplish?

“Michigan is a place that has been calling my name for a while. I love the thrill of racing there. Last year, I only got a few competitive laps in the Xfinity race before a wreck, but I have been having a blast in the simulator getting ready for this weekend. We’ve put a ton of effort into this race, especially with setup. Hailing from Michigan, and with Ziegler Auto Group and Premier Security involved, there’s a lot of hometown pride. We know anyone can win on the right day, so we’re giving it our all. Our cars are strong, and if we can get the perfect setup and opportunity, nothing can hold us back.”

Daniel Suarez, No. 99 Jockey Infinite Cool Underwear Camaro ZL1

What do you think of NASCAR offering option tires?

“Richmond was a fun race! If NASCAR and the fans didn’t like the option tires, I don’t know what they would like because they were amazing. The strategy played a huge role in what everyone was doing; what we were doing and everyone’s different agenda. It was fun.”

Momentum going to Michigan:

“We had a really good run in Richmond. We were fast in practice on Saturday and again on Sunday. My guys did a good job with the strategy on Sunday. It was good to be leading laps. That’s two top-10s in a row. We need to be hitting our stride right now because we have three races remaining before the playoffs begin.”

What are your thoughts on Michigan?

“I like Michigan. It’s a very fast track and I feel like we have had great cars there lately. We have big expectations on Sunday. We came close to winning the second stage last year and in 2022. There is a lot of racing left in 2024.”

Movin’ on Up!: In January, Young’s Motorsports announced it would graduate from the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series to the NASCAR Xfinity Series full-time in 2024 with rising star Leland Honeyman Jr. behind the wheel of the team’s No. 42 Young’s Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro for the entire 33-race season continuing with Saturday afternoon’s Cabo Wabo 250 at Michigan International Speedway.

About Leland: The Phoenix, Ariz. native began honing his racing skills at the tender age of two racing Quads. By four years old, he moved into Trophy Karts and then collected three series championships in off-road racing Trophy Karts.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway | Pennzoil 250 Race Recap: In the 20th race of the 2024 Xfinity Series season, Young’s Motorsports and Honeyman searched for another solid finish in the team’s inaugural Xfinity Series trip to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

After showcasing a good pace in practice, Honeyman qualified his No. 42 Young’s Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro 25th.

From the drop of the green flag, Honeyman did a masterful job avoiding a Lap 1 crash but as the race pressed on, he battled for grip at the 2.5-mile speedway, which combated the handling of his race car.

Consistent adjustments from crew chief Andrew Abbott allowed Honeyman to make gains on the race track, especially in Stage 3, where Honeyman steered to a respectable 20th-place finish at the checkered flag.

NASCAR revokes Austin Dillon’s Playoff eligibility, fines Joey Logano amid controversial Cup finish at Richmond

Photo by John Knittel for SpeedwayMedia.com.

NASCAR released the highly anticipated penalty report following this weekend’s Craftsman Truck & Cup Series actions at Richmond Raceway including the controversial finish during Sunday’s Cup event.

Per the report, Austin Dillon, winner of Sunday’s Cook Out 400, has been stripped of his Playoff eligibility he initially achieved by winning the race. The penalty is a result of how the 2018 Daytona 500 champion from Welcome, North Carolina, claimed the victory, where he bumped and sent the leader Joey Logano for a spin through Turns 3 and 4 on the final lap. Dillon then veered dead left and sent Denny Hamlin, who was trying to overtake both, into the frontstretch’s outside wall and proceeded to claim the checkered flag for the victory, all during an overtime shootout.

The on-track actions Dillon made were ones he chose to perform as last-resort actions to both win and race his way into the Playoffs, as he evoked while celebrating the victory on the frontstretch despite receiving harsh criticism from his fellow competitors, including Logano and Hamlin, and eventually leading to NASCAR emphasizing that Dillon crossed the line upon a three-day review.

In addition to having his Playoff eligibility revoked, Dillon and his No. 3 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 team were docked 25 driver/owner points. As a result, Dillon, who jumped from 32nd to a guaranteed top-16 result in the standings, is strapped back in 31st place in the regular-season standings.

“I think in all due respect to the appeal process, we looked at this and the totality of everything that happened as you enter Turn 3 and as the cars got to the start/finish line,” Elton Sawyer, NASCAR’s Senior Vice President of Competition, said. “So, as we look through all of that data, we came to the conclusion that a line had been crossed. Our sport has been based going for many, many years, forever, on good, hard racing. Contact has been acceptable. We felt like, in this case, that the line was crossed.”

While Dillon received no race suspensions amid his actions, Brandon Benesch, Dillon’s spotter, was assessed a three-race suspension, beginning this weekend at Michigan, due to his concise vocalization of encouraging Dillon to “wreck him” in reference to Denny Hamlin approaching the finish line. Despite the phrase “wreck him” being heard through the in-car audio, team owner Richard Childress and Dillon’s crew chief Justin Alexander denied hearing the audio phrase while defending Dillon’s move.

“If you look at at the crew chief and you look at the spotter, and view them as calming voices in the driver’s ear, in this case, we just felt like we’ve all listened to the audio,” Sawyer added. “We know exactly what was said. We just felt like that that’s not what we need spotters doing. That’s not what we need [from a] crew chief sitting on the box. They’re a calming voice to what the situation is in front of them, and they’re supposed to be spotting for the race, not making comments like were made, as we all know.”

Nonetheless, Dillon is still credited as the official winner of last Sunday’s event at Richmond. He is also eligible to reclaim his 2024 Playoff eligibility status if he were to win any one of the remaining three regular-season events on the schedule, beginning this upcoming Sunday at Michigan International Speedway.

In addition, Joey Logano, who ended up in 19th place after getting hit and spun by Dillon, has also been penalized with a $50,000 fine for violating NASCAR’s Member Code of Conduct policy. Logano’s penalty is a result of the 2018 Cup Series champion getting his damaged car sideways while nursing it through pit road following the checkered flag and nearly sideswiped several personnel, including officials, Dillon’s crew and family members near Dillon’s pit box while venting his frustration. Immediately after parking his car, a NASCAR official angrily confronted Logano inside of his cockpit for his actions before the confrontation simmered as Logano angrily exited his car and proceeded to call out Dillon for his actions to the media.

Photo by John Knittel for SpeedwayMedia.com.

“Some of this, we’ve got some work to do on our side,” Sawyer said while referencing Logano’s actions that led to the penalty. “There was a lot of people on pit road, and there always is. We have our officials out there. The drivers need to understand that. Totally understand the emotion — I get it, I’ve been there a few years back. But you have to respect the fact that we do have people on pit road. Our officials will be there, security will be there. We’ll do a better job on our side to make sure that families and young children and sponsors and of that nature are not on the hot side.”

Meanwhile, Denny Hamlin, who ended up in the runner-up spot despite getting wrecked by Dillon approaching the finish line and was quick to criticize NASCAR for not taking immediate action to penalize competitors for wrecking one another for victories, was not penalized.

With Dillon currently bumped out of the 2024 Cup Series Playoff field, Chris Buescher, who exited Richmond three points below the top-16 cutline to make the Playoffs, is now above the cutline on a tie-breaker against Ross Chastain. In addition, Martin Truex Jr., Ty Gibbs and Bubba Wallace have each been elevated one spot up in the Playoff field.

Saturday’s Craftsman Truck Series event at Richmond, which served as the 2024 regular-season finale and was won by Ty Majeski, did not generate any team penalties.

With the Craftsman Truck Series entering an off-week period, the NASCAR Xfinity Series returns to action following a four-week absence at Michigan International Speedway for the Cabo Wabo 250 this upcoming Saturday, August 17, at 3:30 p.m. ET on USA Network. The Cup Series also returns to action at Michigan for the FireKeepers Casino 400 on Sunday, August 18, at 2:30 p.m. ET on USA Network.

CHEVROLET INDYCAR AT WORLD WIDE TECHNOLOGY RACEWAY: Team Chevy Race Advance

WORLD WIDE TECHNOLOGY RACEWAY
MADISON, ILLINOIS
TEAM CHEVY RACE ADVANCE
AUGUST 16-17, 2024

CHEVROLET LOOKS TO CONTINUE OVAL WINNING WAYS AT WORLD WIDE TECHNOLOGY RACEWAY

  • With five wins in eight events since the 2017 return to World Wide Technology Raceway, Chevrolet looks to add a sixth this weekend in the Bommarito Automotive Group 500.
  • Four of the five wins have come from Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden, winning in 2017, 2020 (Race 2), 2021, and 2022. Additionally, his teammate Will Power holds the fifth victory, taking the checkered flag in 2018.
  • Team Chevy also holds six NTT P1 Pole Awards at the 1.25-mile egg-shaped oval, in addition to 15 podium finishes and 1,176 laps led.
  • Chevrolet has also swept the podium twice located near St. Louis, with a top-four finish sweep by the Bowtie brand in 2022’s Race 2 and a top-five lockout in 2021.
  • Chevrolet looks to score a fourth victory in five events in the new 2.2-liter twin turbo V6 with hybrid technology era at World Wide Technology Raceway after winning the debut in Mid-Ohio, Iowa 1, and Iowa 2.
  • Chevrolet has claimed a win on every oval track to date in 2024, and four of the five in the 2023 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season.

DETROIT (August 14, 2024) – With five races left in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES championship, Chevrolet looks to capitalize on seven wins so far this season that includes the 108th Running of the Indianapolis 500, as well as 18 podium finishes, and 666 laps led in the 12 points-earning events thus far heading to World Wide Technology Raceway for this weekend’s Bommarito Automotive Group 500.

“We’re looking to close out the remaining NTT INDYCAR SERIES season strong heading to World Wide Technology Raceway this weekend,” said Rob Buckner, Chevrolet INDYCAR Program Manager. “The track will provide a challenge different than Iowa, and with solid preparation for the upcoming double header weekend in Milwaukee. With varying degrees of banking in each corner and proven Chevrolet high-speed oval engine reliability, we’re looking forward to heading to World Wide Technology Raceway on Saturday evening.”

The Bommarito Automotive Group 500 is the fifth race in the new 2.2-liter twin turbo V6 era with hybrid technology after Chevrolet successfully captured the win in the introductory event at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in early July. With Chevrolet winning three of the four races so far with the new hybrid technology, Team Chevy looks to leverage that momentum heading into the weekend near St. Louis. Additionally, Chevrolet looks to continue its winning ways after racing to victory lane in each oval race so far this season in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES.

After an extensive in-season break for the Paris 2024 Olympics, Team Chevy’s engineers, drivers, and teams are ready to tackle the 1.25-mile/2.01-kilometer egg-shaped oval near St. Louis. Aiming to add to five wins Chevy already holds since the 2017 return to the track, the Bowtie brand also has six NTT P1 Pole Awards, as well as 15 podium finishes, and 1,176 laps led at World Wide Technology Raceway. Chevrolet has additionally swept the podium twice since 2017, in 2020’s Race 2 where Team Chevy claimed the top four positions, as well as in 2021 with a top-five lockout held by the Bowtie brand.

Leading the field in Saturday evening’s Bommarito Automotive Group 500, the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 convertible in beautiful Red Mist Metallic will once again pace the NTT INDYCAR SERIES to the green flag at World Wide Technology Raceway.

The Bommarito Automotive Group 500 at World Wide Technology Raceway kicks off the two-day show with first practice on Friday, Aug. 16 at 1:30 p.m. ET, followed by qualifying at 5 p.m. ET and final practice at 8:30 p.m. ET. The 260-lap, 500-kilometer main event Saturday night takes the green flag live on USA Network at 6 p.m. ET. All practice and qualifying sessions broadcast with Peacock, INDYCAR Radio, and SiriusXM Channel 218.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING (Quotes):

Santino Ferrucci, No. 14 AJ Foyt Racing Chevrolet:

“Man, I’ve had some success (at World Wide Technology Raceway) in the past. It’s been a fun track. I love that it was a night race when I started in the series. I’m happy to see it going back to a night race-ish, but, yeah, it’s just a good city, good food, great people, and it’s always been a good event.”

Sting Ray Robb, No. 41 AJ Foyt Racing Chevrolet:

“(World Wide Technology Raceway) is a very fun oval. It’s fast but you still have to drive the car in a sense. The dynamic of the different corners makes it interesting for balancing the car one end of the track to the other. It seems to race decently, even though the second lane is almost non-existent after longer runs.”

Pato O’Ward, No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet:

“I’m looking forward to get going with this last stretch of the season. St. Louis is always an exciting race, and I’ve had some success here in the past. Hopefully we can kick off this last stretch with a bang and fight our way closer to the top of the championship.”

Nolan Siegel, No. 6 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet:

“I’m looking forward to racing at World Wide Technology Raceway. It’s a track I’ve been to before, and it’ll be the first time I’ll be racing in this series on a track that I’ve tested previously. The Iowa doubleheader was a very positive weekend for us, so I think we’re continuing the lay a good base to build on. This weekend is another good opportunity to produce a solid result.”

Alexander Rossi, No. 7 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet:

“It’s been a long summer break, but it obviously came at just the right time for me after the injury in Toronto. I’m thrilled to be back in the car for St. Louis and looking forward to kicking off this final stretch in a positive way at one of our best tracks.”

Gavin Ward, Team Principal at Arrow McLaren:

“We’re heading to St. Louis having beat the blues with a rejuvenating Olympic break. We’re elated that Alexander (Rossi) was given the thumbs up to return to racing this weekend. Let’s hope this turn of good fortune is the gateway to further success. Pato (O’Ward) has finished on the podium four out of the five times he’s raced at this track, so we’re aiming to rack up more than just ribs but also more trophies this weekend.”

Ed Carpenter, No. 20 Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet:

“I am always excited to get back to Worldwide Technology Raceway. The track has been such a great partner to the NTT INDYCAR SERIES since they rejoined the schedule. After having two sub-par outcomes at Iowa, I am looking forward to building momentum for the final stretch of races to close out 2024.”

Rinus VeeKay, No. 21 Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet:

“I am very happy that we had a few weeks off, but I am really excited to go racing again and start the final stretch of the season! Christian (Rasmussen) tested at WWT Raceway a couple weeks ago and was fast, so we should have strong cars right away. Having Ed (Carpenter) back in the No. 20 will be good, it is always fun to race with the boss. Hopefully we can keep our streak of Top 10 finishes on ovals going!”

Romain Grosjean, No. 77 Juncos Hollinger Racing Chevrolet:

“Excited to be back racing. St. Louis is a nice place and where I did my first oval race back in 2021. Let’s finish our season on a high note.”

Conor Daly, No. 78 Juncos Hollinger Racing Chevrolet:

“St Louis is attractive. I have loved the track since we first started going there. It provides a great opportunity for a great race and my driving style seems to suit to so I’m excited to get back there after a promising test with this Juncos Hollinger Racing team.”

Notes of Interest

● Next up for Josh Berry and the No. 4 Overstock.com Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing is Sunday’s FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, where he’s made two previous starts in the NASCAR Cup Series. The first came in 2021 as a substitute in the No. 7 entry for driver Corey LaJoie. Berry started 24th and finished 26th. He returned in 2023 in the No. 42 Legacy Motor Club entry and started 35th but saw his day end on lap 50 of the scheduled 200-lap race after being involved in an on-track incident.

● With three points-paying races left on the 2024 Cup Series regular-season calendar, Berry ranks 23rd in the driver standings, 85 points behind 16th-place driver Daniel Suarez, who currently claims the final playoff position. Berry is second in the Sunoco Rookie of the Year standings, only two markers behind the leader Carson Hocevar.

● While Berry has limited experience behind the wheel of a Cup Series car at the 2-mile D-shaped oval in Michigan, he is no stranger to speed there in the Xfinity Series. The 33-year-old has three Michigan starts under the JR Motorsports banner, notching a top-10 finish in all three. In the most recent Xfinity Series start there, Berry qualified on the pole, finishing the first stage in second and the second stage in seventh, and took the checkered flag in the runner-up position.

● If there is one track crew chief Rodney Childers knows well, it’s Michigan. In 35 Cup Series starts there atop the pit box, Childers has five wins (August 2022, both races of a doubleheader weekend in 2020, 2019 and 2018). In addition to those wins, Childers’ drivers amassed 12 top-five finishes, 17 top-10s, and two pole awards. In his last Michigan outing with Harvick last year, Harvick made an impressive charge through the field from the 22nd starting position and earned an eighth-place finish.

● Overstock.com adorns Berry’s No. 4 Ford Mustang Dark Horse at Michigan this weekend. The partnership amplifies the recent relaunch of Overstock.com, home of crazy good deals that offer quality and style for less. Overstock.com is for the savvy shopper who loves the thrill of the hunt and it includes product categories customers know and love, like patio furniture, home furniture and area rugs, while reintroducing jewelry, watches and health-and-beauty products.

Josh Berry, Driver of the No. 4 Overstock.com Ford Mustang Dark Horse

Michigan is a track where you’ve found speed and consistency during your Xfinity Series career, and have cut laps in fill-in roles in the Cup Series. How does that help you heading into this weekend knowing you’ve shown you can run well at the 2-mile oval?

“Seat time is so important to me and, any time I have been able to get more laps, I feel like I get more confident and comfortable. And the NextGen car has been something I have had to adapt to this year, but I feel like I just get more and more comfortable each weekend, which helps. Having success there in the past and knowing what it takes to find speed there in the Xfinity car gives me some experience, but it also has a lot to do with the cars we brought. With that said, I will stick to the process our team has put together and we will be prepared to put our best foot forward and run hard on Sunday.”

Rodney (Childers) and Kevin (Harvick) had a lot of success at Michigan together. What are you leaning on from their time together to get you prepared to go there with the No. 4 team?

“Obviously Rodney and Kevin have done a phenomenal job of creating a deep notebook filled with what worked for them and the No. 4 program and I hope that I can use what they have found and build off that. It helps that I have experience in a Cup car, so I can talk about what I felt in those races and help Rodney set up our car for what I think I will need and compare that to what Kevin needed. It is all just a starting point until we get to practice and see how our setup works on track, and then we go tweak it to get some of the finer details ironed out.”

You have three races left in the regular season – what are some of the biggest things you have learned this year?

“I think the biggest thing is that Cup racing is hard. These guys across the board are all really good at what they do and getting a win takes a near perfect day because the level of competition is just so high. I think adding to that, just learning to be patient and trust myself and what I am doing because we have been in the mix for a win a couple of times and that just gives me the confidence that I can do this.”

The final three tracks are good tracks for you, on paper. How do you stay focused on one race at a time when it feels like the next three tracks are all in your wheelhouse?

“I think just staying really committed to our process. It would be easy to say, ‘I feel confident,’ and just rely on that, but our team is really good about diving into the details and making sure we get everything we can out of our prep so we can go to the track with a really solid foundation to work from. The fact that the tracks just happen to be good ones for me is an added bonus.”
