Martinsville Speedway To Host Car Wash To Benefit M-HC Family YMCA

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (May 10, 2011) – Martinsville Speedway is joining forces with the Martinsville-Henry County Family YMCA to offer a creative, caring and fun way to celebrate NASCAR Day on May 20.

Martinsville Speedway has partnered with the Martinsville-Henry County Family YMCA and The NASCAR Foundation to host The NASCAR Day Car Wash for Kids. The car wash will support children’s charities, with local proceeds benefiting the YMCA’s Invest in Youth Fund.

The car wash will be staffed by members of the Martinsville Speedway staff and volunteers from the YMCA.

“What a fun way to help reach so many youngsters that need financial support,” said Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell. “It’s a way our staff can work together with the YMCA and folks with dirty cars to have a really positive impact on our community. It was one of those ideas, when we heard it we knew we had to be involved.”

Money raised from the car wash will benefit the Martinsville-Henry County Family YMCA’s Invest in Youth Fund that provides scholarships to those that cannot pay the normal fees for programs and memberships. Last year the YMCA gave over $150,000 in financial assistance for youngsters in the Martinsville and Henry County area.

“The Martinsville-Henry County Family YMCA is proud to partner with the Martinsville Speedway to raise money that will help both organizations serve more youth,” said Brad Kinkema, CEO and Executive Director of the Martinsville-Henry County Family YMCA. “I hope the community will come out and support the car wash which will in turn help others.”

The NASCAR Day Car Wash for Kids will be held on May 20 in the infield of Martinsville Speedway from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For a $10 donation, each fan will get a car wash, a NASCAR Unites wristband and will be able to drive their vehicle around the famous Martinsville Speedway. Payment may be made in cash or by check. Credit cards will not be accepted.

Five dollars of each $10 donation will go to the Martinsville-Henry County Family YMCA, with the remaining $5 going to the NASCAR Foundation.

The NASCAR Day Car Wash for Kids will mark the eighth annual celebration of NASCAR Day. To the present date, NASCAR Day has raised over $8 million for The NASCAR Foundation. NASCAR Unites is a recently launched campaign focused on raising $1 million while generating one million volunteer hours for children’s charities.
