Rogers, RBR Looking to Rebound at Texas

CERRO GORDO, N.C. (June 7, 2011) – For seven races in 2011, Clay Rogers had been able to pilot his No. 92 BTS Tire and Wheel Distributors/fleetHQ.com Chevy Silverado around the host of trucks that managed to find trouble around him on the track.

Last Saturday at Kansas Speedway in the Lucas Oil 250, he wasn’t so lucky.

When Nelson Piquet, Jr.’s No. 8 truck spun on lap 73, Rogers had nowhere to go and was caught up in the melee, severely damaging his Chevrolet.

“There was no avoiding that one,” said Rogers, “It was bound to happen. We have dodged a lot of bullets so far this year, but last week we caught one.

“After that, the truck became a handful. I don’t know if we just bent the body or the trailing arm but it was a chore keeping it pointed in the right direction. We were just out there turning laps at that point and it finally caught up with me and the truck spun out. Luckily, we didn’t hit anything.”

Despite the bad luck and a mangled truck, Rogers is positive about the gains the team made in practice and qualifying.

“We struggled a bit in the first practice, the truck was really loose,” Rogers said, “but we put our heads together between the two sessions and made some really good changes that tightened the truck up and put together a really good qualifying run – out ran some really fast trucks.”

Rogers believes the setup will serve the team well at Texas Motor Speedway, another 1.5 mile track

“Texas is one of my favorite tracks,” said Rogers. “I have always ran well there and we are going with pretty much the same setup we left Kansas with, so I am sure we will have a good run.”
