No. 31 BRANDT Chevrolet News and Notes

Weekend Rewind: Michigan – Teams headed to Michigan International Speedway with a bit of uncertainty after a recent track repave, with accelerated speeds as a result.   Justin Allgaier qualified eighth for the Alliance Truck Parts 150 and ran in the top-15 for a majority of the race, even leading four laps during a long green-flag run. But the handling of his BRANDT Chevy combined with a slick race track proved to a little too much and he was forced to settle for a 14th-place result.

Allgaier at Road America – Allgaier will make his third start at the 4.048-mile road course this weekend. The Illinois-native’s most memorable start came last season however, when he had all but captured a win in the Bucyrus 200, which was extended past the advertised distance due to late-race cautions. Unfortunately, Allgaier ran out of fuel after the field had taken the white flag and could not make it back to the start/finish line. In his two starts, Allgaier has an average start of 16.0, coupled with an average finish of 27.0 and has led four laps. His track-best finish is 19th, which he secured in last season’s event.

Allgaier on the Move – After spending most of last week in his hometown in Illinois, Allgaier will again be on the road this week participating in media advances for both Road America and his home track of Chicagoland Speedway before the race weekend. Allgaier will join fellow NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) drivers Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Danica Patrick on Thursday morning at Oak Street Beach in downtown Chicago for a fan event as well as the unveiling of the new Chicagoland Speedway logo.

Dirt Track Tuesday Night – Allgaier’s stretch of races competing in his No. 31 BRANDT dirt modified car continues this Tuesday evening, June 19, at Terre Haute Action Track in Terre Haute, IN. Coming off a rough outing at Macon Speedway last Tuesday night, Allgaier looks to rebound this week at the track’s NASCAR Night. He’ll join fellow drivers Kenny Wallace and Tony Stewart, who will also be in action that evening.

This Week’s Impala – This weekend, Allgaier will pilot TMS-302 in the Sargento 200 at Road America. This car was tested earlier in the year at Virginia International Raceway and was also the same chassis the BRANDT team used in last season’s event at Road America.

Allgaier on returning to Road America:

“I am excited to get back to Road America this weekend. It’s a lot of fun to mix it up on a road course as it’s not necessarily what we’re all used to. Jimmy (Elledge, crew chief) is also really good at calling road course races. To be honest, last year’s finish was definitely a heartbreaker for this BRANDT team. To come so close to winning, only to run out of gas after the race had been extended was a hard pill to swallow. You run through such a range of emotions in a very short period of time in a situation like that. I’m hopeful we can head up there and have another great race, but definitely with a little different result. It’s the same BRANDT Chevy as last season, so I know it’s a strong race car. Regardless, we’re going to go up there and have a good time.”

No. 38 Great Clips Chevrolet News and Notes

Brad Sweet Career NNS Stats

6            0                 0                    0        1               13.8                   21.7

Turning left a new experience for Sweet…. This weekend’s first road course race of the season will be a new experience for Sweet who has never competed on a road course. Sweet has however, had some practice in the technique in preparation for the two road course races he will compete in this season (Road America and Circuit Gilles Villeneuve). In February, the rookie spent two days at the Bondurant Racing School. Additionally, last month he and his Great Clips team tested at Virginia International Raceway.

Kahne and Sweet featured in House Crashers airing June 25th on the DIY network…. Kasey Kahne and Brad Sweet “crash” House Crashers on DIY this week! The show will feature the drivers helping to remodel a Charlotte, NC family’s garage into a Great Clips Racing themed garage. The show premieres on June 25th at 9 PM EST on DIY Network and www.diy.com. There will also be rebroadcasts of the show during the first week of July.

Practicing his pitch…. Next Wednesday, prior to the race at Kentucky Speedway, Sweet will throw the first pitch at the Dayton Dragons game in Dayton, Ohio as they go up against the Lake County Captains. Sweet will get a VIP tour of the facility and sign autographs for fans at the Great Clips showcar which will also be on site.

Who’s on the pit box? Mike Shiplett joined Turner Motorsports in 2012 and has a unique role as he calls the shots for both a veteran (Kasey Kahne) and a rookie (Sweet). It is a reunion of sorts for Kahne and Shiplett, who were paired together in the NNS during the 2007 season and put down impressive results including two victories (Charlotte Motor Speedway and Bristol Motor Speedway, spring events).

This Week’s Impala… The No. 38 team will unload chassis TMS-301 this weekend at Road America. This is the same chassis the team tested with last month at Virginia International Raceway.

Kahne and Sweet: a unique combination… Not only are Kahne and Sweet good friends off the track, but the veteran is serving as mentor to Sweet as he makes the transition from open-wheel competition to stock cars. Sweet was handpicked by Kahne in 2008 to drive for Kasey Kahne Racing (KKR) where he has since experienced tremendous success in the World of Outlaws Series. Sweet will continue to compete on a limited basis for KKR when he is not behind the wheel of the No. 38 Great Clips machine in the NNS. You can expect Kahne to be very involved and present in the NNS garage when Sweet is behind the wheel of the No. 38 as he will closely monitor his progress and offer encouragement.

Kahne brought Great Clips their first win! From 2003-2005, Kahne and his sponsor, Great Clips, Inc., reached momentous milestones, including capturing Kahne’s first Nationwide Series victory in 2003 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. It was also Great Clips’ first win as a primary sponsor. In 2005, Kahne captured his second career win at Texas Motor Speedway before leaving the Nationwide Series to allow more time for his Sprint Cup Series efforts.

Great Clips goes racing with the World of Outlaws in 2012! Great Clips serves as sponsor for KKR driver Joey Saldana this year in the World of Outlaws series. The Minneapolis-based company has been a sponsor of KKR for the past two seasons. This year, they will be featured on all three KKR entries – as a primary sponsor on the #9 with Saldana as well as associate sponsor placement on Brad Sweet’s #49 and Cody Darrah’s #5 World of Outlaws cars.

12 Years and Counting… Great Clips, Inc. is currently the longest-running sponsor in the NNS and has used the Nationwide Series as their primary marketing platform for the last 11 years. Their sponsorship began in 2000 with Akins Motorsports as they climbed on board to sponsor the team’s No. 38 entry with driver, Christian Elder. Mark Green piloted the No. 38 for one season before general manager, Doug Stringer, hired up-and-coming talent, Kasey Kahne, thereby solidifying Great Clips’ commitment to their NASCAR sponsorship.

Sweet on this weekend’s NNS race at Road America

“This is going to be an entirely new experience for me but I am really excited about it! I enjoyed learning from the pros at the Bondurant Racing School and then testing last month at VIR and feel like I learned a lot. It’s going to be challenging both physically and mentally but I have a great team behind me with this Great Clips crew so I am feeling confident going in. You never know how these road course races are going to go, so we will just manage our own race, keep our patience and work hard to bring home a solid finish.”

No. 30 Qualcomm/Autotrac Chevrolet News and Notes

This Week’s Impala…The No. 30 Qualcomm/Autotrac NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) team will bring chassis TMS-300 to Road America for Saturday’s Sargento 200. TMS-300 is a winning chassis for Turner Motorsports team after claiming a victory at Road America in 2011.

Showing his true colors…The No. 30 machine will be easy to spot on the track this weekend, thanks to the bright green and yellow stripes that will wrap around the vehicle. The Brazilian 26-year old chose the colors of his native flag for good luck this weekend. The color green on the flag represents Brazil’s verdant pasture and forest regions, while the yellow indicates Brazil’s gold resources, once being home to some of the largest gold mines in the world.

Change of scenery…Piquet Jr. is currently sixth in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) championship standings, having three top-five and two top-ten finishes in the first seven races of the year. He will return to the seat of his No. 30 NCWTS machine on June 28th, 2012 at Kentucky Speedway.

Watch LIVE… Coverage of this week’s NNS race will be live from Road America on Saturday June 23, 2012 at 3:30 pm EST on ESPN, with pre-race coverage starting at 3:30 pm EST. For even more coverage you can also tune in to MRN Radio or SiriusXM Satellite NASCAR channel 90.

Nelson Piquet Jr. on his first start at Road America

“I’m really looking forward to making my first Nationwide Series start of the season. I earned a top 10 in my very first Nationwide Series start, my first start on a road course in NASCAR, and I’ve grown a lot as a driver in the two years since then. The two tracks are quite different, but I spent a lot of my career on road courses before coming to NASCAR. The Turner Motorsports cars have been performing extremely well in the Nationwide Series this year, getting a win already in Daytona, and so close to one last weekend in Michigan. My expectation is that we can bring home a victory.”

Crew Chief Chris Carrier on racing with Piquet Jr. at Road America

“This race at Road America has been circled on my calendar for several months. One of the most prestigious, historic road courses, not only in America, but also on the face of the earth. NASCAR being there is a big deal. With Nelson’s background in road racing, I think he will do very well. I expect him to be a player in this upcoming race. We’re heading there with a fast car and a great group people. It’s going to be a great weekend.”

There’s a First Time for Everything… Brazilian driver Miguel Paludo will make his NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) debut this weekend at Road America when he gets behind the wheel of the No. 32 Duroline Brakes and Components Chevrolet Impala. Paludo, who is in his third year racing in NASCAR, (his second full-time season) has made 36 starts in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS). In those races, Paludo has accrued 10 top-10 and three top-five finishes, as well as one pole award (Daytona 2012).

On The Road Again… Although he has yet to race a road course in one of NASCAR’s top-three series, Paludo is undoubtedly well-versed in making both left and right turns on the racetrack. Paludo hails from the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Brasil series, where he won back-to-back championships (2008, 2009) before making the move to NASCAR the following year. In a combined total of 14 ARCA Racing Series, NASCAR K&N Pro Series and NCWTS starts in 2010, Paludo made one road course start in the NKNPS East at Lime Rock Park, where the Brazilian started and finished ninth at the 1.53-mile circuit.

La Vida Loca… The No. 32 team welcomes aboard Locaweb, which will grace the deck lid and TV panel of the Duroline Brakes and Components machine. Locaweb is the leader in Hosting in Brazil and Latin America, and with 13 years of experience and partnerships with over 16,000 developers, they offer solutions designed to facilitate clients’ online business. Technological innovation aligned with a highly-qualified team, all in one of the most modern data centers in Latin America, allow Locaweb to stay constantly ahead of its competitors in the Internet market. For more information on Locaweb, visit www.locaweb.com.

Father of the Year… Paludo kicked off his very first Father’s Day this past weekend as an honored guest at the American Diabetes Association’s Father of the Year awards. Paludo shared the story of his type 1 diabetes diagnosis eight years ago, as well as the diagnosis of his and wife Patricia’s young baby, Oliver, now nine months old. For 12 years, the ADA has teamed up with the National Father’s Day Council to recognize local fathers who are leaders in their industry, who also manage to be great dads, and give deeply to their communities. The event is a major fundraiser for the ADA, which works tirelessly across the country as well as locally in NASCAR’s hub, Charlotte, N.C. Honored this year were: Tom Hughes, Gene Flood, Mark Allison, Ravi Patel and Carlos Evans.

Diabetes Fact of the Week… A diabetes myth dispelled: Many believe that eating too much sugar causes diabetes. Fact: No, it does not. Type 1 diabetes is caused by genetics and unknown factors that trigger the onset of the disease; type 2 diabetes is caused by genetics and lifestyle factors. Being overweight does increase your risk for developing type 2 diabetes, and a diet high in calories, whether from sugar or from fat, can contribute to weight gain. If you have a history of diabetes in your family, eating a healthy meal plan and regular exercise are recommended to manage your weight.

This Week’s Impala… The No. 32 team will unload chassis TMS-303 this weekend at Road America. This is the same chassis Ricky Carmichael drove to a ninth-place finish at the 4.048-mile road course in 2011.

Paludo on this weekend’s NNS race at Road America

“It is a pretty special week for me and the No. 32 team because this will be my very first Nationwide start. Anyone who sees the smile on my face when I talk about doing this Nationwide race can see just how excited I am about making my debut and getting behind the wheel of one of those cars. I’m also really looking forward to racing on a road course, it’s the first time since 2010 that I’m not racing an oval.”
