No. 30 Fresh from Florida Chevrolet News and Notes
This Week’s Impala… The No. 30 Fresh from Florida Chevrolet Impala team will bring chassis TMS-326 to the 1.5-mile Kentucky Speedway for Friday night’s 200-lap event. TMS-326 is the same car Buescher finished second in two weeks ago at Michigan International Speedway.
Welcome Aboard… Turner Motorsports is pleased to announce that Fresh from Florida will adorn the sheet metal of the No. 30 Chevrolet Impala on Friday night in the Bluegrass State. Fresh from Florida is a division of the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Their mission is to safeguard the public and support Florida’s agricultural economy by ensuring the safety and wholesomeness of food and other consumer products through inspection and testing programs. They also protect consumers from unfair and deceptive business practices and providing consumer information, and assist Florida’s farmers and agricultural industries with the production and promotion of agricultural products. The organization also works to conserve and protect the state’s agricultural and natural resources by reducing wildfires, promoting environmentally safe agricultural practices, and managing public lands.
Winner Winner… The No. 30 team captured their second victory of the season last Saturday afternoon at Road America. NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) standout Nelson Piquet Jr. dominated the 50-lap event, leading 19 laps on his way to the victory. This was the Brazil native’s first NASCAR Nationwide Series victory. Turner Motorsports continues to have success across the board, winning races in all three series in which it competes. James Buescher has been to victory lane twice, winning the season-opening NNS race in Daytona, in addition to capturing his first NCWTS victory at Kansas Speedway. The powerhouse organization has won five times in the first half of 2012.
Double Duty… James Buescher will be a busy man while in the Kentucky. Not only will he pilot the No. 30 Fresh from Florida Chevrolet on Friday night, but the 22-year-old driver will also be behind the wheel of the No. 31 Exide Batteries Chevrolet Silverado in Thursday night’s NCWTS event. This will be Buescher’s 11th NNS start in 2012. In those 11th starts, he has collected one win, two top-five, and six top-10 finishes. He and the No. 30 team have an average finish of 9.0.

“I think having the extra track time on Thursday gives me an advantage over the rest of the competition. I will have a full race under my belt to see what the track does and how the handling characteristics change over the course of the race. As the sun goes down, the track will gain a significant amount of grip, which will allow me to move around and find more speed.  I know it is going to be hot there this weekend, so I am already preparing by getting myself hydrated. I am really looking forward to the weekend. The 30 team is surely on everyone’s radar as a contender and I am hoping we can continue to build on the success we are having so far this season.”

Weekend Rewind: Road America – Justin Allgaier and the BRANDT team headed into the 14-turn road course in Elkhart Lake, Wis. looking for a bit of revenge after nearly winning the race at Road America last season. The Illinois native notched his career-best road course qualifying spot of seventh and despite finding the gravel trap late in the race, came back to finish 10th after the 50-lap race.
One for the History Books – Turner Motorsports teammate Nelson Piquet, Jr. made history with his win from the pole at Road America over the weekend. Piquet became the first Brazilian native to win in one of NASCAR’s top-three series. The win also adds to Turner Motorsports’ impressive portfolio of finishes in 2012 which includes four wins, 13 top-fives, 33 top-10s and three pole awards between NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) competition.
Allgaier at Kentucky Speedway – This weekend marks Allgaier’s fourth NNS start at Kentucky Speedway. In three prior starts at the 1.5-mile speedway, Allgaier owns one top-five and two top-10 finishes, with 25 laps led. He has an impressive starting average of 4.7, coupled with an average finish of 10.7. In last season’s event, Allgaier finished 19th after starting eighth.
Lending a Hand for Race Title Sponsor – On Thursday afternoon, Allgaier will join fellow NNS drivers at a distribution organized by Feed The Children, in partnership with Speedway Children’s Charities. HOPE for Gallatin County has pre-identified the 400 families who will each receive a 25-pound box of food and a box of personal care items. This year, Feed The Children and Speedway Children’s Charities will deliver an estimated 540,000 pounds of food and supplies to those in need on behalf of Kentucky Speedway, Atlanta Motor Speedway, Bristol Motor Speedway, Charlotte Motor Speedway, Infineon Raceway, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, New Hampshire Motor Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway. In all, Feed The Children’s distributions, in partnership with Speedway Children’s Charities, will reach 10,800 families. This is the second year NNS drivers have assisted with the distribution which takes place at 1:00 p.m. at Gallatin County High School.
This Week’s Impala – This weekend, Allgaier will pilot TMS-327 in the Feed The Children 300 at Kentucky Speedway. This car was last used at Charlotte Motor Speedway where Allgaier finished eighth after starting from the 16th spot.

“After last weekend, it’ll be fun to get back on an oval track this weekend. We’ve had some pretty good starts over the past few seasons at Kentucky and I’m hopeful we can turn them into even better finishes. I really enjoy racing under the lights on a Friday night as it just seems to add an element of excitement and I think the fans really enjoy it also. It’s great to have Feed the Children come on board to sponsor our race again this year. I’m excited to be able to participate in the food distribution on Thursday afternoon as well. It’s a great cause that I know shares similar goals with the folks at the National FFA, who have a prominent spot on the decklid of the BRANDT Chevy. Anything we can do to help hungry people get food is a big deal.”

Previous experience at Kentucky Speedway… Sweet has made just one start at Kentucky Speedway. In 2009, he competed in the ARCA Racing Series race at the 1.5-mile track, starting from the eighth position and finishing 16th.
Practicing his pitch…. This Wednesday, prior to the race at Kentucky Speedway, Sweet will throw the first pitch at the Dayton Dragons game in Dayton, Ohio as they go up against the Lake County Captains. Sweet will get a VIP tour of the facility and sign autographs for fans at the Great Clips showcar, which will also be on site.
Who’s on the pit box? Mike Shiplett joined Turner Motorsports in 2012 and has a unique role as he calls the shots for both a veteran (Kasey Kahne) and a rookie (Sweet). It is a reunion of sorts for Kahne and Shiplett, who were paired together in the NNS during the 2007 season and put down impressive results, including two victories (Charlotte Motor Speedway and Bristol Motor Speedway, spring events).
This Week’s Impala… The No. 38 team will unload chassis TMS-325 this weekend at Kentucky Speedway. This is the same chassis that Sweet piloted at Auto Club Speedway, bringing home a season-best sixth-place finish. Kahne also drove this chassis at Darlington Raceway, finishing 18th.
Kahne and Sweet: a unique combination… Not only are Kahne and Sweet good friends off the track, but the veteran is serving as mentor to Sweet as he makes the transition from open-wheel competition to stock cars. Sweet was handpicked by Kahne in 2008 to drive for Kasey Kahne Racing (KKR) where he has since experienced tremendous success in the World of Outlaws Series. Sweet will continue to compete on a limited basis for KKR when he is not behind the wheel of the No. 38 Great Clips machine in the NNS. You can expect Kahne to be very involved and present in the NNS garage when Sweet is behind the wheel of the No. 38, as he will closely monitor his progress and offer encouragement.
Kahne brought Great Clips their first win! From 2003-2005, Kahne and his sponsor, Great Clips, Inc., reached momentous milestones, including capturing Kahne’s first Nationwide Series victory in 2003 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. It was also Great Clips’ first win as a primary sponsor. In 2005, Kahne captured his second career win at Texas Motor Speedway before leaving the Nationwide Series to allow more time for his Sprint Cup Series efforts.
Great Clips goes racing with the World of Outlaws in 2012! Great Clips serves as sponsor for KKR driver Joey Saldana this year in the World of Outlaws series. The Minneapolis-based company has been a sponsor of KKR for the past two seasons. This year, they will be featured on all three KKR entries – as a primary sponsor on the #9 with Saldana as well as associate sponsor placement on Brad Sweet’s #49 and Cody Darrah’s #5 World of Outlaws cars.
12 Years and Counting… Great Clips, Inc. is currently the longest-running sponsor in the NNS and has used the Nationwide Series as their primary marketing platform for the last 11 years. Their sponsorship began in 2000 with Akins Motorsports as they climbed on board to sponsor the team’s No. 38 entry with driver, Christian Elder. Mark Green piloted the No. 38 for one season before general manager, Doug Stringer, hired up-and-coming talent, Kasey Kahne, thereby solidifying Great Clips’ commitment to their NASCAR sponsorship.
Sweet on this weekend’s NNS race at Kentucky
“It’s been a great week, having made a trip to Minneapolis for the Great Clips charity golf tournament and a visit to Children’s Hospitals of Minnesota. Now, it’s time to get back to racing. This Kentucky track has kind of been a thorn in my side over the last couple of years, but I’m ready to conquer it. This Great Clips team is really good at these mile-and-a-half tracks, we just a little luck on our side. We have had some solid runs over the last couple of weeks, but just not the finishes to go along with it. Hopefully we can turn that around here this weekend and bring home a strong finish.”
