No. 31 BRANDT Chevrolet News and Notes

Weekend Rewind: New Hampshire – Justin Allgaier and the BRANDT Racing team traveled north to the “Magic Mile,” riding the momentum from a string of consistent finishes. The weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway proved to be no different. After starting 13th, Allgaier never left the top-10 throughout the 200-lap event and took the checkered flag in the eighth spot. The finish also locked Allgaier solidly in fifth in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) point standings.

Allgaier at Chicagoland Speedway – Allgaier will make his fifth NNS start this weekend at his home track of Chicagoland Speedway. In four previous events, Allgaier has amassed one win, one top-five and three top-10 finishes, with five laps led. He has an average start of 11.5 and an average finish of 8.8. After winning the first Chicagoland race last season, Allgaier finished 14th in the second event.

Returning to Defend – As the winner of last season’s STP 300, Allgaier is returning home to defend his finish in front of his hometown crowd. In a thrilling conclusion to the 200-lap race one year ago, Allgaier passed Carl Edwards on the final lap as the No. 60 car ran out of fuel. Coming to take the checkered flag, Allgaier also ran out of fuel, but had just enough to secure the victory.

Celebrating BRANDT Day – Prior to heading out to Chicagoland for the weekend, Allgaier will make a stop at BRANDT HQ on Thursday, July 19 for Justin Allgaier/BRANDT Day. From 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. Allgaier will be on hand to meet employees, customers and fans alike and sign autographs. Additionally, there will be food, displays, a farmers market and live entertainment for guests to enjoy.

Supporting the Pride of Springfield – Because it’s BRANDT’s home track as well, the professional agriculture company plans to host over 400 guests at the STP 300 on Sunday afternoon. In addition to supporting their driver from the stands, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy visits from Turner Motorsports team members and media personalities at the hospitality event.

Feed The Children Distribution in Springfield – Because of his 10th-place finish earlier in the summer at the Prelude to the Dream, Feed The Children is donating a truckload of food and essentials on Allgaier’s behalf to deserving families in the Springfield area. Allgaier selected Kulmer United Methodist Church as the recipient of food and personal items for 400 children and their families.

Up In The Booth – Fans can catch Allgaier on the air twice this weekend in Chicago. On Saturday afternoon, he will join Rick Allen and Phil Parsons in the SPEED booth to call the ARCA Series race starting at 5:00 p.m. EST. On Sunday, Allgaier will give folks an insider view as ESPN’s In-Race Reporter during the STP 300.

This Week’s Impala – This weekend, Allgaier will drive TMS-324 for the STP 300 at Chicagoland Speedway. This chassis was raced previously at Michigan International Speedway, Texas Motor Speedway and Auto Club Speedway.

Allgaier on returning home to Illinois and defending his win at Chicagoland Speedway:

“This is a weekend that we on the BRANDT team have had circled on the calendar since the beginning of the year. Not only is it great for me to be able to go home, but on top of that, but having the opportunity to go spend the day at BRANDT headquarters is such an exciting time for me. It gives me the chance to hang out with all of the folks who allow me to do what I do every weekend, which is something I’m extremely grateful for. I’d love nothing more than to be able to repeat what we did last year and take all of the guests to victory lane with us. It was such a thrill for me to win the race the way we did and then be able to celebrate with my team and BRANDT at the end of the night at our home track.”

No. 38 Great Clips Chevrolet News and Notes

Brad Sweet Career NNS Stats

Starts Poles Wins Top-Fives Top-10’s Avg. Start Avg. Finish

9 0 0 0 1 15.3 21.1

Previous experience at Chicagoland… Brad Sweet has made laps at Chicagoland Speedway in both the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) and ARCA Racing Series (ARS) competition. In the ARS race in 2009, he started from the eighth position before an accident relegated him to a 34th-place finihs. In 2010, he competed in the NCWTS race, starting 17th and finishing 16th.

In Brad’s World… While Kasey Kahne took the wheel of the No. 38 Great Clips machine last weekend at New Hampshire, Sweet was busy putting in some time on the open-wheel circuit with his Kasey Kahne Racing (KKR) crew. The Grass Valley, Calif.-native captured a big win at Sharon Speedway in the Lou Blaney Memorial before heading to tracks such as Limaland Motorsports Park, Eldora Speedway and Lernersville (this Tuesday).

Who’s on the pit box? Mike Shiplett joined Turner Motorsports in 2012 and has a unique role as he calls the shots for both a veteran (Kasey Kahne) and a rookie (Sweet). It is a reunion of sorts for Kahne and Shiplett, who were paired together in the NNS during the 2007 season and put down impressive results including two victories (Charlotte Motor Speedway and Bristol Motor Speedway, spring events).

This Week’s Impala… The No. 38 team will unload chassis TMS-328 this weekend at Chicagoland Speedway. This chassis last saw track time at Charlotte Motor Speedway where Kahne posted a 14th-place finish.

Another win for Great Clips… Add to the list another victory for Great Clips! Joey Saldana, driver of the No. 9 car in the World of Outlaws for KKR, chalked up a big win last Friday night in the Knight before the Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway. This was the fourth win for Saldana and the No. 9 Great Clips team.

Kahne and Sweet: a unique combination… Not only are Kahne and Sweet good friends off the track, but the veteran is serving as mentor to Sweet as he makes the transition from open-wheel competition to stock cars. Sweet was handpicked by Kahne in 2008 to drive for Kasey Kahne Racing where he has since experienced tremendous success in the World of Outlaws Series. Sweet will continue to compete on a limited basis for KKR when he is not behind the wheel of the No. 38 Great Clips machine in the NNS. You can expect Kahne to be very involved and present in the NNS garage when Sweet is behind the wheel of the No. 38 as he will closely monitor his progress and offer encouragement.

Kahne brought Great Clips their first win! From 2003-2005, Kahne and his sponsor, Great Clips, Inc., reached momentous milestones, including capturing Kahne’s first Nationwide Series victory in 2003 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. It was also Great Clips’ first win as a primary sponsor. In 2005, Kahne captured his second career win at Texas Motor Speedway before leaving the Nationwide Series to allow more time for his Sprint Cup Series efforts.

Great Clips goes racing with the World of Outlaws in 2012! Great Clips serves as sponsor for KKR driver Joey Saldana this year in the World of Outlaws series. The Minneapolis-based company has been a sponsor of KKR for the past two seasons. This year, they will be featured on all three KKR entries – as a primary sponsor on the #9 with Saldana as well as associate sponsor placement on Brad Sweet’s #49 and Cody Darrah’s #5 World of Outlaws cars.

12 Years and Counting… Great Clips, Inc. is currently the longest-running sponsor in the NNS and has used the Nationwide Series as their primary marketing platform for the last 11 years. Their sponsorship began in 2000 with Akins Motorsports as they climbed on board to sponsor the team’s No. 38 entry with driver, Christian Elder. Mark Green piloted the No. 38 for one season before general manager, Doug Stringer, hired up-and-coming talent, Kasey Kahne, thereby solidifying Great Clips’ commitment to their NASCAR sponsorship.

Sweet on this weekend’s NNS race at Chicagoland

“It’s been a great week or so going racing with the KKR guys, but I’m happy to get back in the seat of that Great Clips car at Chicagoland this weekend. I have some laps under my belt there, which will make things a little more comfortable for me the first time we hit the track. I know Mike Shiplett and the whole crew will work hard through practice to get the No. 38 dialed in for me for Sunday’s race. I’m ready to get back into a rhythm with these guys and gain some momentum. We started out strong at the first intermediate track (Auto Club Speedway), so we look to recapture some of that magic and bring home a strong finish from Chicago.”

This Week’s Impala… The No. 30 Fresh from Florida Chevrolet Impala team will bring chassis TMS-326 to the 1.5-mile Chicagoland Speedway for Sunday afternoon’s 200-lap event. TMS-326 is the same car Buescher finished 10th in three weeks ago at Kentucky Speedway.

Welcome Back… Turner Motorsports is pleased to announce that Fresh from Florida will again adorn the sheet metal of the No. 30 Chevrolet Impala on Sunday afternoon outside the “Windy City”. Fresh from Florida is a division of the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Their mission is to safeguard the public and support Florida’s agricultural economy by ensuring the safety and wholesomeness of food and other consumer products through inspection and testing programs. They also protect consumers from unfair and deceptive business practices and providing consumer information, and assist Florida’s farmers and agricultural industries with the production and promotion of agricultural products. The organization also works to conserve and protect the state’s agricultural and natural resources by reducing wildfires, promoting environmentally safe agricultural practices, and managing public lands.

For the Fans… James Buescher, along with his Turner Motorsports teammate Nelson Piquet Jr. will participate in Chicagoland Speedway’s trackside party on Thursday, July 19th. The event will be held at the 1.5-mile facility in Joliet, Ill. and will give fans an opportunity to get up and close with the stars of NASCAR. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. and will consist of a question and answer period as well as an autograph session. For more information go to www.chicagolandspeedway.com.

Double Duty… James Buescher will be a busy man while in the Chicago this weekend. Not only will he pilot the No. 30 Fresh from Florida Chevrolet on Sunday afternoon, but the 22-year-old driver will also be behind the wheel of the No. 31 Fresh from Florida Chevrolet Silverado in Saturday night’s NCWTS event. This will be Buescher’s 14th NNS start in 2012. In those 14 starts, he has collected one win, two top-five, and seven top-10 finishes. He and the No. 30 team have an average finish of 11.0.

Watch and Listen… The STP 300 be seen live Sunday, July 22nd on ESPN. Race coverage will begin at 2 p.m. EST. The NASCAR Nationwide Series event can also be heard live on MRN Radio as well as Sirius Satellite Radio, channel 90.

James Buescher on Double Duty at Chicagoland Speedway

“Running both races seems to really help me. In Kentucky, we won Thursday night and learned a lot about how the track changed during the race, which helped us during the [NASCAR] Nationwide Series race the next night. My crew chief Trent Owens stays for the [NASCAR Camping World] Truck Series race and sits on the box to see what our guys do for tire pressures. Obviously, the car and the truck are aerodynamically different, but the race changes are similar so there is a lot of information that transfers from race to race. I know it is going to be hot this weekend, so I have already started to hydrate for two days of racing. I am looking forward to this weekend and trying to get our Fresh from Florida car up front.”
