Texas Motor Speedway Scratches The Surface With New “Hawg Heaven Bacon Cotton Candy” T-Shirts

FORT WORTH, Texas (April 4, 2013) – In January, one of the most unique concession items was created at Texas Motor Speedway with the unveiling of “Hawg Heaven Bacon Cotton Candy.” Adding to the anticipation of the signature item’s debut during the NRA 500 weekend, Texas Motor Speedway has developed a way to showcase the bacon cotton candy’s savory scent on a unique scratch and sniff shirt.

Texas Motor Speedway’s first scratch and sniff shirt captures the scent through the logo of “Hawg Heaven Bacon Cotton Candy” printed with bacon and cotton candy infused ink. The shirt includes the logo on the front, and on the back is the lettering “I Pigged Out On Hawg Heaven Bacon Cotton Candy Only At Texas Motor Speedway.” This one-of-a-kind item will be available for $22 at the Speedway World gift ship and select souvenir and concession stand locations throughout the speedway during the NRA 500 weekend.

The bacon cotton candy was created by Levy Restaurants and The Speedway Club at Texas Motor Speedway Executive Chef Joel Pena. Chef Pena wanted to create a unique signature concession item that would pair two treats people love into an unlikely, yet flavorful combination. The two very different flavors coming together in a surprisingly harmonious fashion has proven to be the driving force behind the buzz and anticipation.

Through his experimentation, Chef Pena developed a unique way to infuse the maple bacon into the cotton candy sugar. This process allows for the sugar to take on the smokiness and flavor of bacon while still holding the sweetness of traditional cotton candy. After the cotton candy takes shape, the candy fluff is topped with candy-coated bits of bacon.

For the NRA 500 race weekend, Chef Pena will prepare over 3,000 bags of “Hawg Heaven Bacon Cotton Candy” and will cook more than 300 pounds of bacon just to handle the candy-coated topping.

Along with the scratch and sniff shirts, the “Hawg Heaven Bacon Cotton Candy” can be purchased at concession stands located outside sections 422 and 116 for just $6. It will also be available at the Pig Rig Food Truck on the concourse between gates three and four, as well as in the stands sold by the Hawg Heaven Hawkers. The Hawg Heaven Hawkers shouldn’t be hard to spot as they will be outfitted in their “Hawg Heaven Bacon Cotton Candy” t-shirts and “Hawg Heaven Bacon Cotton Candy” flying pig hats. Additionally, fans can find bacon cotton candy at the Infield Concession Stand, Village of Champions and Victory Lane Club.
