Newlywed Bayne Extends Roush Fenway Dominance at Iowa

No. 6 RFR Team wins for fourth time in last five at Iowa; Scores Ford’s 200th

NEWTON, Iowa (June 9, 2013) – Roush Fenway Racing’s (RFR) Trevor Bayne ‘tied the knot’ last week and sealed the deal today at Iowa Speedway. Bayne took the lead with 11 laps remaining in Sunday’s rain-delayed 250-mile Nationwide Series race to extend the Roush Fenway dominance Iowa. The victory is Roush Fenway’s fourth in the last five races at Iowa and the landmark 200th win in the NNS for Ford.

“This Ford was so good on the long run,” said Bayne, who scored his second career NNS victory. “After 30 laps it really came to life. I’m so proud of this team and what they accomplished here today – not giving up, even to the end.”

Bayne was strong all day, running second for much of the race behind the No. 3 car of Austin Dillon. However, as the laps winded down Bayne’s No. 6 Ford Mustang began to make up the ground, eventually catching Dillon and engaging in a tight battle for the lead, before passing the No. 3 with just over 10 laps remaining. The young driver from Knoxville, Tenn. would never look back.

“We were so far back you could barely see the No. 3 car,” said Bayne. “But we were able to run him down. We raced pretty hard there and we were able to go by him and drive away. It’s such a blessing to be a part of this team, to have Ford on board and to be able to get their 200th win in the Nationwide Series.”

“I got married this week,” added Bayne. “So (my wife) Ashton told me I had to win so nobody could say I went into a slump after getting married. I’m really excited about this win and being a part of this team.”

The No. 6 Ford Team, led by crew chief Mike Kelley, has earned all four of RFR’s NNS wins at Iowa. It is Roush Fenway’s 132 win in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and its record-extending 313th NASCAR victory.
