Veteran driver, team looking to build on season-best Charlotte finish
Cerro Gordo, N.C. (June 25, 2013) – Buoyed by a season-best finish at Charlotte last month, Scott Riggs and the Ricky Benton Racing (RBR) Enterprises BTS Tire and Wheel Distributors/Goodyear fleetHQ/QMI team are returning to NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) action this week in the UNOH 225 at the Kentucky Speedway.
The team elected to forgo the NCWTS events in at Dover and Texas Motor Speedway. The UNOH 225 will be the team’s fifth entry (out of eight races) in 2013.
“It’s always tough being away from the track,” said Riggs. “But we are committed to putting the best truck on the track each time out and this limited schedule allows us to do that.
“We had a great run last time out and I feel like we are moving in the right direction with the entire operation. I’m excited to get back on track with the BTS crew and build on the good finish we were able to put together at Charlotte.”
Riggs finished 11th in the North Carolina Education Lottery at Charlotte Motor Speedway. After engine woes at Daytona and Martinsville to start the season season, the team suffered a late-race crash at Rockingham. At Charlotte, Riggs raced his way from the rear of the field and overcame contact with Brad Keselowski’s truck to finish on the cusp of the top 10.
“It’s good to be heading back to the track after a good outing,” said crew chief Mike Hester. “We learned somethings about our intermediate program at Charlotte that will carry over the Kentucky this week.
“I feel like we have some momentum after the rough start to the season that we had. Hopefully it carries over this week.”
Kentucky is a place where the driver of the No. 92 Chevrolet has had some luck in the past. Riggs has one victory in three starts at 1.5 mile oval in the NCWTS. He also has a pole at the track in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.
