Newman To Join Gordon, McMurray, Stenhouse In Martinsville Party Plaza

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (July 10, 2013) – Ryan Newman, one of the fastest and most popular NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers, will make an appearance in the new Martinsville Speedway Party Plaza prior to the Goody’s™ Headache Relief Shot™ 500 on October 27.

Newman, who has racked up an incredible 49 pole victories in his dozen seasons on the NASCAR Sprint Cup circuit, will join four-time Sprint Cup champion Jeff Gordon, Jamie McMurray and rookie Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in the Party Plaza. The drivers will appear at different times and each will participate in an emceed question and answer session during their appearance.

Three of Newman’s 49 pole victories have come at Martinsville Speedway. He has one Martinsville win, a victory that came in one of the most exciting endings to a Martinsville race, the 2012 Goody’s Fast Relief 500.

Running fourth on a green-white-checkered finish after a caution on lap 498, Newman somehow managed to avoid a huge crash in the first turn on the restart and held on for the win.

“Well, the first green-white-checkered, I told the guys on the radio, I said, ‘Listen, good job today. I’m not sure if I can bring it back,’ and that’s when the whole deal happened in Turn 1,” Newman said that afternoon after his win.

The Party Plaza is a new addition to Martinsville Speedway’s race-morning lineup and will feature live music, a DJ and children’s activities, including a bounce house and a rock-climbing wall.

There will be food vendors in the Party Plaza selling great treats. Pepsi products will be available for purchase. There will be a beer garden with an assortment of beer at affordable prices.

Admission to the Party Plaza, which also includes a Pre-Race Track Pass to walk along the front-stretch of Martinsville Speedway, is just $49.

Tickets for the Party Plaza may be purchased by calling 877.RACE.TIX or online at www.martinsvillespeedway.com.
