Not a First on Dirt… When the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) makes its debut on the dirt at Eldora Speedway, several drivers in the series will also make their debut off the asphalt. Dakoda Armstrong, however, is not among that group. Possessing a wealth of knowledge on the dirt from his background rich in open wheel racing, Armstrong knows a thing or two about racing on the dirt. While racing consistently in the open wheel ranks early in his racing career, the Indiana native made one start at Eldora in the USAC Racing Series. He was able to pull off a victory in his heat race and ran a competitive feature against some of the best drivers in the series.

“I remember the first start I had at Eldora in open wheel, and it was everything I had expected and then some,” Armstrong said. “It is one of the fastest, if not the fastest, feeling dirt tracks there is. The banking makes it really a fun race to run, especially if you can get your car to hook up on the top groove.

“When we tested our dirt truck last week, I got about six good laps in before I decided to try and drive it like I did my sprint car. Unfortunately, that didn’t work out so well and I ended up spinning out, but at least we know now what not to do. We learned a couple other useful things at the test as well, but I think it will be a big unknown for everyone until we actually get all 30 trucks out there.”

This Weekend’s WinField Silverado… The No. 60 Turn One Racing team and crew chief Gere Kennon have prepared chassis 51 for the inaugural NCWTS competition at Eldora Speedway. This chassis will be making its debut with Armstrong behind the wheel.

Previous Race Recap: Iowa Speedway… On his third trip to the birthplace of his NCWTS career, Dakoda Armstrong put himself in position to capitalize in the closing laps of the American Ethanol 200. By virtue of fighting for and receiving three “lucky dog” passes to get back on the lead lap throughout the night, Armstrong gained several spots in the final five laps as the leaders experienced several close calls. Staying attentive as he took the white flag, Armstrong steered around several trucks as they tangled in the final turns to take home a 10th-place finish.

What do you think of the qualifying and race format for this weekend?

“It’s something I’m used to from my dirt track and open wheel background, but I really like the idea of it for this race because you’ll actually be able to race for your starting position in the feature. The fans will enjoy it too because everyone will have to go all out all the time, so I’m sure it’ll be exciting all night.”

Broadcast Information… The NCWTS broadcast from Iowa Speedway will begin live on SPEED beginning with the NCWTS Setup at 9:00 pm ET, with radio coverage provided by MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
