WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR MICHIGAN INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY

Jamie McMurray and No. 1 Advil Team

Watkins Glen Recap: The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) paid a visit to the Finger Lakes region of New York and Watkins Glen International over the weekend for the second and final road course race of the season. The McDonald’s Monopoly team planned on a strategy to conserve fuel and make the 90-lap race on just two pit stops.  With solid pit work and the benefit of late cautions the strategy resulted in an 11th-place finish.

McMurray at Michigan: McMurray has made 21 previous starts at (MIS). He has one top-five, four top-ten finishes and he has led a total of 36 laps.  His best qualifying effort came in 2010 when he started second and his best finish of fourth came in 2004. His average start is 24.8 with an average finish of 19.6.

Milestone: Jamie McMurray will make his 600th career start in one of NASCAR top-three touring series this weekend at MIS.  McMurray has 388 NSCS, 186 NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) and 25 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) starts.  McMurray’s first start in one of the top-three series was in the NCWTS race on May 22, 1999 at I-70 Speedway in his home state of Missouri.

Golden Arches:  There’s no reason to go hungry while visiting Michigan International Speedway this week.  McDonald’s is conveniently located within two miles of the track at 306 S Main St., Brooklyn, Mich. 49230-9307. (517) 456-6134.

Juan Pablo Montoya and No. 42 Target Team

Watkins Glen Recap: Over the weekend Juan Pablo Montoya and Team Target returned to the site of Montoya’s last NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) win. The No. 42 Chevy SS was front and center for the entire weekend posting top-five times in practice and following it up with a top-five finish on race day.  The fifth-place finish marks the third top-five finish of the 2013 season for Team Target.

Montoya at Michigan: Montoya has 13 NSCS career starts at MIS. He has three top-10 finishes and has led four laps. His best qualifying position was third in the fall 2009 race and his best finish came in the spring 2009 race when he finished sixth.  His average starting position is 17.7 with an average finish of 22.

Looking Back: Montoya is no stranger to winning at MIS. In 2000, he drove his Target car to victory lane in the CART Series. He led 39 of the 250 laps and won by a margin of .040 seconds over Michael Andretti.

Coming Home: Chris McMullen, rear tire changer on the No. 42 Target Chevrolet SS, calls Michigan home. McMullen is from Canton which is approximately an hour northeast of MIS. He has been in racing for eight years and his favorite sports team is the Detroit Red Wings.

Hit the Bullseye: Need something in a hurry?  Be sure to stop by the nearest Target at 1076 Jackson Crossing, Jackson, Mich. 49202 on your way to the track this weekend.  Call ahead at (517)788-3900
