JR Motorsports Diversifies HQ Energy Supply

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Jan. 23, 2014) – JR Motorsports has completed the construction and installation of solar panels atop its race shop and office, diversifying the ways in which the company gets its energy.  The solar energy will reduce the company’s power usage from the grid by about 44 percent.

A team from Argand Energy Solutions, a local Charlotte company, began last November on the installation of 836 modules, which covers approximately 42,000 square feet of rooftop space.

“This is something I’ve wanted to do for several years,” said owner Dale Earnhardt Jr.  “We spent a lot of time researching this.  Operating a big shop with over 100 employees requires a lot of power.  These solar panels, while not a baseload energy source, will be a great addition to helping us meet part of our energy demand.”

In correlation with the rooftop panels, JR Motorsports is installing a monitor in the JR Nation Retail Store that will show in real time how much energy is being produced.  The store is open to fans Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET, and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET.
