Gilliland Wants One More Spot at Sonoma

Driver Takes Love’s Travel Stops to Site of His Best Cup Finish

STATESVILLE, JUNE 17, 2014 – David Gilliland, driver of the No. 38 Love’s Travel Stops Ford, comments on racing at Sonoma Raceway:”We always love going to Sonoma. I’ve won races there in other series before and I’ve come close to winning in Cup there, finishing second. It’s just always one of my favorites. We circle it on the calendar for sure. And this will be our first time going with Love’s Travel Stops, so we’re excited to be there with them and give them a good run.

“Racing at Sonoma is really aggressive. It’s not about aero and speed like some of the other tracks we go to. It’s more of a finesse track in how you drive. Aggressive finesse, I guess you could say. You can get up on someone and get around them or just move them out of the way. And the cars will show it in the end. It’s almost like Martinsville how everyone’s pretty banged up.”

JUST THE FACTS: Gilliland has eight starts at Sonoma Raceway… His top finish at the 10-turn, 1.99-mile road course is second (2008), Gilliland’s top Sprint Cup finish (tied with Talladega in May 2013) … Love’s Travel Stops returns as primary sponsor of the No. 38 for Sunday’s race.

. @DavidGilliland ranks 2nd on #NASCAR’s list of ‘closers’ at Sonoma (most positions gained in last 10% of laps in each race).
