Biederman Weekend See’s Two First Time Hanover Holiday Feature Winners

Location: Sunset Speedway June 28 -29, 2014

What won the race: Night 1 The start of the first 30 lap feature event saw the #47 of Brian McLean and #7 of Brent McLean lead the field to green. Both teams have suffered some bad luck in the past few weeks and both were looking to score their first victory of the 2014 season. Brian got the jump on Brent and lead for the first 3 laps of the event. Fourth starting #26 of Terry Baker quickly moved up from his fourth starting sport to take the lead on lap four. The rookie driver had his mirror filled with veterans for the entire race. Gary McLean was the first to challenge Baker for the lead but a tire with a slow leak sidelined the two time champion late in the going. Next to mount a challenge was the #14 of Davey Terry. From lap 18 on, Davey tried everything he could to make the pass to record his first feature win in the series. The #26 played defence over the final couple of laps as the two battled for the lead. With one last ditch effort Davey tried to stick the #14 on the outside but the door was slammed shut by the #26 of Baker. When the checker flag waved it was #26 Terry Baker picking up his first feature win, followed closely by the #14 of Davey Terry and #47 Brian McLean recorded his best feature finish of the season with a well deserved 3rd place run.

Night 2 of the Biederman Memorial the Hanover Holiday Modifieds where again ready to show the fans some great open wheel competition. The #82 of Justin DeMelo and #14 Davey Terry brought the field to green. On lap two of the event Davey placed the #14 in front of the field and looked to have the field covered. At times the #14 had close to a half track lead on the field. However as in racing it is not over till it is over. A late race caution bunched the field up and now the #26L of Cayden Lapcevich making his first ever modified start and the #8 of Gary McLean to his back bumper for a restart with 3 laps to go. Davey choose the inside line to start giving the #26L the outside for the restart. The two raced side by side for the first lap with the #14 slipping just slightly giving Lapsevich the opening he needed to make the pass. Cayden would go on to lead the final two laps holding off the #8 of Gary McLean to record his first ever Hanover Modified feature event, with second to McLean and with a disappointed but still smiling Davey Terry in third.

All weekend each and every modified driver showed the race fans why they are the fastest growing series in Ontario. With some great side by side completion and some great display of racing in both feature events, it is safe to say open wheel racing is alive and well right now and for many years to come.

Also just wanted to put a shout out to Bill Burrows a racing legend who made his first OSCAAR start in over a year. The 70 something driver showed that he can still get out there and play with young guns of OSCAAR
