Gary McLean & Max Beyore Feature Winners At Capital City Speedway

Gary McLean & Max Beyore feature winners at Capital City Speedway

Location: Capital City Speedway, Ottawa ON, July 5th 2014

What won the race: For the first time is OSCAAR history, The Hanover Holiday Modifieds made the trip to our nations capital, Capital City Speedway. With all drivers having to make at least a 4 hour haul and up to a 9-10 hour trip to put a show on for the fans. Eleven teams committed to make the trip to show the fans in Ottawa, the excitement of OSCAAR racing. A late race format change to ensure the fans witnessed the best racing saw the modified teams run time trials then two twenty five lap feature events. During practice the drivers all took to the track to learn the fast away around the flat 3/8th mile oval. Gear changes where the order of the day as teams prepared for time trials. The drivers combined times for two laps would set the starting order for the first 25 lap feature event. Dustin Jackson and his #61 team made the long haul from Sault St Marie worth it by having the best two lap average and lead the field to green for the first 25 feature. Gary McLean and his #8 team lined up second and was able to get the jump coming out of turn two on lap one to power by Dustin down the back stretch. The #8 would lead all 25 laps to record the victory. A race long spirited battle for third between the #36 of Elliott #88 of Ryan Dick and #7 of Brent Mclean had the fans on the edge of their seats. The second 25 lap feature event would see a complete inversion of the finishing order of the previous feature.

Rookie contender #91n Max Beyore had the most experience of anyone in the field prior to this event. Max had run a total of 12 laps in a late model about 5 years ago. Max used his pole position to his advantage and took the lead on the initial green and was able to hold off all challengers to record his first ever OSCAAR Hanonver Holiday Modified feature event. Gary McLean worked his way through the field and took advantage of late restart to record a second place finish. #77 Chad Strawn and #7 Brent McLean raced hard for the entire 25 lap feature event, with Strawn getting the final podium finish at the end. Dustin Jackson ended his weekend with another top 5 finish at features end.

The dedication of the race teams did not go unnoticed as Ottawa Speedway management and fans had nothing but praise for this young series.

Bad Luck of the event: Racing is a very cruel sport and plays with people’s emotions at the best of times. After a very successful Biederman Weekend the #14 of Dave Terry was riding that positive momentum heading into Ottawa.   As the field was rolling to green for the start of the first feature event the #14 rolled to a stop in the pits. The crew worked feverishly looking for the problem but unfortunately Davey would miss the first 25 lap feature event. In the spirit of competition Allen Adams had the #99 normally driven by Drew Stieler in the pits with Daryl Stephenson behind the wheel this weekend. Allen graciously offered the car to Davey to help keep the #14 in the championship hunt. It is sportsmanship like that, that ensures that OSCAAR will continue to have a bright future.

Rookie Battle: Five Rookie of the Year candidates were in attendance. In the first 25 laps feature event #61 Dustin Jackson was the top finishing rookie followed by Gary Elliott, Chad Stawn, Tommy Robb and Max Beyore. The second feature saw #91n Max Beyore with the win and top rookie honours. Chad Strawn, Dustin Jackson , Gary Elliott and Tommy Robb rounded out the rookies
