CONCORD, N.C. (Oct. 7, 2014) – For the ninth time this season, Roush Fenway Racing’s Ryan Reed has a special guest riding along with him during Friday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.  The No. 16 American Diabetes Association Drive to Stop DiabetesSM presented by Lilly Diabetes Ford Mustang will carry the name of Karl Reynolds above the passenger side window.

Reynolds was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes five years ago, right before his ninth birthday.  The now 13-year-old, has dedicated himself to his role as an American Diabetes Association Youth Ambassador, including fundraising and welcoming walkers to the Association’s annual Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes every year since he was diagnosed.

In addition to his Youth Ambassador duties, Reynolds enjoys playing the piano along with participating in speech club and a youth group.

“As long as we stick together, live together and fight together, we will stop diabetes!,” says Reynolds.

The ‘Riding with Ryan’ program rolls into its ninth weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway.  The name of an American Diabetes Association Youth Ambassador will be featured on the No. 16 Ford Mustang at 11 races this season, coinciding with races where there is an activation space for Drive to Stop Diabetes.

Drive to Stop Diabetes presented by Lilly Diabetes will host an activation space in the fan midway at a total of 14 races during the 2014 season.  The display area features the No. 16 Drive to Stop Diabetes racing simulator, diabetes awareness and educational materials, as well as various prizes.

“I love how dedicated Karl is to his role as an American Diabetes Association Youth Ambassador, as well as his passion to stop diabetes,” said Reed.  “Yet again, Karl is an outstanding example of what the whole Drive to Stop Diabetes program stands for.  Every week I am fortunate enough to meet people that have continued to live their passion, even with diabetes.  It makes me so proud of the hard work by both the American Diabetes Association and Lilly Diabetes.”

The NNS takes the green flag from Charlotte Motor Speedway on Friday, Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2 and PRN.
