AUSTIN DILLON QUOTE:
What do you think about racing at Richmond International Raceway? Did you take anything away last year from your first two starts there?

“Richmond International Raceway is probably the toughest track we go to for me. I’ve had decent runs there and I’ve qualified well there but I just haven’t raced well there. It’s just so hard. I’ve really enjoyed the fact that it widened out all the way to the wall last year. I thought that was cool. You could really start moving around there when the rubber was laid down. You could definitely change your lines. I’m really looking forward to going back. We were able to test there, so we’ll try and use that to our advantage.”

Paul Menard, No. 27 CertainTeed / Menards Chevrolet SS
Race Notes and Quotes:

This Week’s CertainTeed / Menards Chevrolet at Richmond International Raceway … Paul Menard will utilize chassis No. 485 during Saturday night’s 400-lap event at Richmond International Raceway. This Chevrolet SS was utilized earlier this year at Phoenix International Raceway where Menard started 21st and finished 14th.

Richmond by the Numbers … Menard currently has 16 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starts at the 0.75-mile track. He has three starts from the top 10 as well as one top-five and one top-10 finish. He has led four laps and completed 98.1 percent of the laps in competition.

About CertainTeed … CertainTeed Corporation is a leading North American manufacturer of building materials including roofing, vinyl and fiber cement siding, trim, fence, railing, decking, foundations, insulation, gypsum, ceilings, and pipe products. Meet Menard … Come to the Chevy Stage, located in the track’s midway, at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday for a question and answer session with Menard.

Where Do You Stand … Menard currently sits 14th in the Sprint Cup Series driver point standings after finishing 11th at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Last Time in Richmond … Menard started last year’s September event in the 14th position and quickly reported he needed “drive off” during the 300-mile race. The No. 27 team made several adjustments on pit road during routine pit stops and had the RCR-prepared Chevrolet SS handling better at the end when Menard crossed the finish line 18th.

PAUL MENARD QUOTE:

The way that Richmond is shaped, can it be compared to any other track on the schedule or is it too unique to be compared to anything else on the schedule?

“Not really, it’s unique in its size and shape. It’s pretty wide for how small it is and races wide also, similar to an intermediate track. It’s abrasive on tires so the pace falls off quite a bit throughout a run, which changes how the car handles as well. So you’re always fighting some changing balance issues. Because it is wide, and is abrasive, it allows us to move around and find a groove that works for what your balance is doing.”

Get to the Points … After finishing fifth at Bristol Motor Speedway, Newman moved up four positions to 16th in the championship point standings and just 25 markers out of the top 10 entering this weekend’s race event at Richmond. In the first eight Cup events in 2015, the No. 31 team has earned four top-five and five top-10 finishes.

Last Time Around … Newman earned his sixth Chase for the Sprint Cup berth after finishing ninth in the 400-lap event. For the majority of the race, Newman competed in the sixth position. The final restart of the night happened on lap 336 with Newman scored in the seventh spot. The RCR driver remained poised and cross the finish line in ninth place.

RYAN NEWMAN QUOTE:

What are your thoughts on Richmond International Raceway?

“It’s a really good race track. I’m not sure that it suits my driving style any different than other tracks. It just makes for good racing. It’s so much fun because you can go there and have several options to make a pass. Corner exits are really important and a key to running well at Richmond. You need good drive off in Turns 2 and 4. Those are the two places where you can make the most time.”

BRIAN SCOTT QUOTES:

Talk about racing at Richmond International Raceway?

“Richmond has been a great track for me. We’ve gotten a couple pole’s, I’ve led a lot of laps there, finished second, and many top-five finishes. Of course, I think back to a year or two ago when we should’ve won, led 240 out of 250 laps. It was heartbreaking, so Richmond has been a great race track for me as of lately and I’m looking forward to collecting a trophy there.

What has changed about the track over the years?

“What has changed is that NASCAR seems to bring a different Goodyear Racing tire compound each time we come to Richmond. For some reason they can’t seem to land on a product they like that seems to please everybody. That seems to be the biggest adjustment for our team. It seems like the race track itself has really stayed the same. It’s one of the most challenging race tracks in my opinion that we visit. With the corner entry in turn one and how unique turns one and two are, Turns three and four are completely different. When you look at the overhead of the track you might think that it is symmetrical but it’s really not. It drives totally different in turns one and two than in three and four. I really like that. It’s a short track that wears out a lot. Your fall off on tires is huge and it’s always been a place you have to manage your tires. It’s fun; it’s challenging. The racetrack itself I feel doesn’t change much except for maybe temperature. Depending on how hot or cold it is, that’ll adjust the racetrack. Really it will be getting our hands around a new tire compound when we go back.”

BRENDAN GAUGHAN QUOTE:

What are your thoughts on Richmond International Raceway?

“Shane (Wilson, crew chief) has told me that I am not allowed to hate Richmond this year. I have already asked if Austin (Dillon) could put a few pillows in a firesuit, double as me and run the race in my Camaro. I don’t know what it is about Richmond, but it is my Achilles heel. Since we are going for the XFINITY championship, this track will be our biggest test. I just need to get through the weekend and race with a nice solid day. If we can come home with a top 10, that would be a phenomenal day for us. Shane and the boys have their work cut out for them, but I am excited because I am trying to take it differently and keep everything in perspective for us. I am open to all the advice and help I can get this weekend.”
