Multi-Car Incident Ends Bayne’s Afternoon Early in Talladega

TALLADEGA, Ala. (May 3, 2015) – Trevor Bayne, driver of the No. 6 AdvoCare Ford Fusion, was involved in a multi-car incident in the early stages of the 188-Lap event at Talladega Superspeedway, ultimately earning a 41st-place finish.

“I hate that our car got torn up,” said Bayne after the race. “This AdvoCare Ford was fast. (Crew chief) Bob (Osborne) gave me a great car today. We were able to race our way up through the pack and into the top three there. I hate that that wreck happened. We’ll put this behind us and move on to Kansas.”

Bayne began the afternoon from the 26th position following Saturday’s single-car qualifying session. Despite starting in the middle of the pack, Bayne wasted little time moving forward, improving 12 positions in the opening lap. The charge did not stop there as the driver of the No. 6 AdvoCare Ford only needed six laps to work his way into the top 10 and 15 total laps to move into the top three, racing up to third on the outside line.

Bayne maintained his position inside the top three until the first caution of the afternoon came out on Lap 18. During the caution period, crew chief Bob Osborne called Bayne to pit road for right-side tires and a chassis adjustment, sending the Knoxville, Tenn. native back out onto the track in the fifth position. Taking the green flag on the ensuing restart in fifth, Bayne found himself shuffled three-wide to the outside line.

Utilizing the draft, the Roush Fenway Racing driver was able to work his way into the middle lane and began to once again maneuver his way toward the front, rejoining the top five on Lap 44.

Then, while racing in the middle of the pack on Lap 47 Bayne’s No. 6 Ford got sideways and was ultimately collected in a multi-car incident coming off of the second corner. Upon returning to the garage, crew chief Osborne and crew deemed that the damage was too severe to repair, ending their afternoon early. Bayne would be scored with a 41st-place finish.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series follows the yellow brick road to Kansas Speedway next Saturday night, May 9.
