Texas Recap: Denny Hamlin finished 38th in Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway, after a failure in the fuel system forced the #11 FedEx Office Toyota to the garage for lengthy repairs early in the race won by Jimmie Johnson. Hamlin started ninth and ran inside the top-10 in the early going. Following the first round of pit stops, Hamlin noticed that the car was shutting off at high RPMs. Under the next caution, the team tried to diagnose the problem, but as it persisted, they were forced to bring Hamlin to the garage before Lap 100. After multiple trips to fix the issue, Hamlin returned to the track 28 laps down to the leaders. The finish dropped Hamlin to 10th in the standings with two races remaining in the season. The Series returns to action at Phoenix International Raceway on Sunday, November 15.

11/11 in Memphis: Hamlin will celebrate Veteran’s Day in Memphis for a variety of special events in conjunction with FedEx. First, Hamlin will team up with Memphis Grizzlies point guard (and fellow #11) Mike Conley for a shooting contest at the team’s practice facility to benefit the USO. As part of that, FedEx will donate $11,000 to the military service organization. Next, Hamlin will tour the Target House, a long-term lodging facility affiliated with the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Hamlin, who has visited St. Jude in the past, will make an $11,000 donation to the hospital from the Denny Hamlin Foundation. Wednesday evening, Hamlin will be on hand to help unveil the new FedEx Hub hospitality area inside FedExForum prior to the Grizzlies home game versus the Golden State Warriors.

Phoenix Preview: The Series heads west for Sunday’s 312-lap event on the flat, one-mile Phoenix International Raceway. Hamlin won in the desert in the spring event in 2012 and has two career poles at the track, including the Chase race at PIR one year ago. In 20 Phoenix starts, Hamlin has posted nine top-five finishes and has led 441 laps.

Hamlin Conversation — PHOENIX:

What does it mean to you to spend Veteran’s Day in Memphis?

“It will be a fun-filled day in Memphis to help raise awareness for a couple different charities that are close to both FedEx and myself. I’m glad we’ll be able to recognize all of our military service members with a cool event at the Grizzlies and donate some money to USO. After that, we’ll take a tour of the Target House, which is a very important part of the St. Jude family. I’m honored to make a donation to the hospital through the Denny Hamlin Foundation. I have seen firsthand the amazing work that is done at St. Jude. It will be a very rewarding trip.”

Air Ground and Freight Services Along for the Ride in Phoenix: “AGFS” and “USGO” will appear on the b-posts of the #11 FedEx Express Toyota this weekend at Phoenix to recognize the Air Ground and Freight Services division that supports the FedEx Express airport and trucking operations.
