AM Racing Tabs Austin Wayne Self to Pilot No. 22 Toyota Tundra

MOORESVILLE, NC (December 10, 2015) –  AM Racing is proud to announce it has tabbed 19-year old Austin Wayne Self as the driver of the newly formed team’s No. 22 Toyota Tundra. Self will compete in all 23 races on the 2016 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule and compete for the Rookie of the Year honor.
“This is a dream come true for me,” said Austin.  “I grew up dreaming about competing at the highest levels of NASCAR and now I get to compete in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.  I am very appreciative of this opportunity and look forward to working hard on and off the track so I can do the best job possible. I will have a lot to learn and will turn to our manufacturer and fellow veteran drivers for some key guidance.”
Self is coming off competing the last two seasons in the ARCA Racing Series where he earned one win (Winchester 2015), finished second in the championship points in the 2015 season, won the S&S Volvo Most Laps Completed Award Winner and was the 2014 ARCA Scott Rookie of the Year.  He also collected 13 Top-Five’s and 30 Top-10 finishes in his 45 career starts in the ARCA Racing Series. The Austin, Texas native will lean on these past experiences as he goes through the 2016 season and navigates some of the rookie hurdles such as visiting some tracks for the first time.
The AM Racing team recently announced its newly formed NASCAR operation with its debut coming at Daytona International Speedway in February.  The team has joined forces with Toyota Racing Development (TRD) which is a critical element of their growth.  The team will utilize a Triad Racing Technologies engine program for the season and is in the process of building a new stable of Toyota trucks featuring KBM chassis and suspension components.
“The ability to partner with Toyota, TRD and Triad engines will allow us to put a top level truck on the track each week,” added Self.  “The team is building brand new Toyota trucks which raises my excitement level even higher.  A tremendous amount of work has been put into this AM Racing program and I can’t wait to get to Daytona.  I am very focused on putting my best foot forward on and off the track for the 2016 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season and beyond.  Finally, as a native of the great state of Texas it is an honor to represent the only brand of pickup truck that is manufactured in Texas and the largest selling truck in the state – just like me the Toyota Tundra is “Born In Texas and Built by Texans”.”
AM Racing and Austin Wayne Self will make their NASCAR debut together on February 19, 2016 at Daytona International Speedway in the running of the NextEra Energy Resources 250.  To learn more information on Austin Wayne Self and AM Racing please visit awsracing.com.
