GRAMMY-AWARD WINNER SOUL ASYLUM TO PERFORM PRIOR TO GOOD SAM 500 AT PIR

Spring Break entertainment at ZOOMTOWN, USA capped off with pre-race concert

PHOENIX – Fans coming to the Good Sam 500 at Phoenix International Raceway will be entertained with live music prior to the race as popular Grammy-nominated and multi-platinum rock group Soul Asylum will perform a pre-race concert in the Fan Midway area at 10:30 a.m. MST.

The concert, which resulted from a partnership between PIR and Niner Sports & Entertainment, is just one part of race-day excitement and is free to all fans with a grandstand ticket for the Good Sam 500. Tickets for the race start at $25 and are available online at PhoenixRaceway.com or by phone at 1-866-408-RACE (7223).

The group, which includes founding singer/guitarist Pirner with guitarist Justin Sharbono, bassist Winston Roye and drummer Michael Bland, will release its eleventh studio album, Change of Fortune, and its first for Entertainment One Music (eOne Music) in March of 2016.

Soul Asylum has been inspiring rock fans since 1981, when the band, initially known as Loud Fast Rules, formed in Minneapolis. The band’s raucous live sets and early releases on the hometown indie label Twin/Tone — including the albums Say What You Will, Made to Be Broken and While You Were Out — earned it a loyal fan base and widespread critical acclaim.

Soul Asylum’s indie success led to the band entering the major-label mainstream with 1988’s Hang Time, and achieved a platinum-level commercial breakthrough with 1992’s Grave Dancers Union and 1995’s Let Your Dim Light Shine.

Grave Dancers Union featured the international hits “Runaway Train,” which won a 1994 Grammy as Best Rock Song, and “Black Gold,” while Let Your Dim Light Shine spawned the hit “Misery.”
