NASCAR Returns to Richmond International Raceway in 2017

Race Fans Will Once Again Experience the Best of Both Worlds With Day and Night Racing at the Action Track!

Coming off one of the greatest finishes in Richmond International Raceway history, track officials are excited to announce NASCAR will return to the Action Track in 2017.  Race fans will be able to experience the best of both worlds with day racing April 28 – 30 and night racing September 8 – 9.

“We got back to our roots this past April, with our return to day racing,” explained RIR President Dennis Bickmeier. “We saw an increase in the number of families and kids at the raceway, many brought for the first time by some of our long-time attendees, and they all watched as Carl Edwards pulled off the ultimate bump-and-run in the final turn to win the TOYOTA OWNERS 400.”

Three- and even four-wide racing returned to the Action Track, giving fans quite a show in the first scheduled day race in 18 years.  April 2017 will be just as exciting with side-by-side racing.

“September will once again be the NASCAR regular season finale,” continued Bickmeier.  “We’ll go back ‘under the lights’ and watch the sparks fly as drivers battle it out for a coveted spot in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.”

Sunday afternoons in the spring are a time when families and friends gather together outdoors, enjoying the sun and warmer weather.  That tradition is what excites fans and drivers.

And while Sunday afternoon racing at Richmond evokes tradition for some fans, Saturday night racing at Richmond does the same for others who remember the first scheduled night race at Richmond, won by Harry Gant on September 7, 1991.

Yes, the NASCAR excitement is returning in 2017, however we’re not done with the excitement in 2016!  Tickets are on sale now for the return of night racing at RIR, the Virginia529 College Savings 250 NASCAR XFINITY Series race on Friday night, September 9 and the Federated Auto Parts 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on Saturday, September 10.  Join us as we celebrate the 25th Anniversary of The Night Race with a special $25 ticketoffer through May 25th.  Click here to get your tickets now, or call our ticket office at 866-455-RACE.
