Wallace Nets 12th-Place Finish in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (Sept. 9, 2016) – Bubba Wallace, driver of the No. 6 Bleacher Report Ford Mustang, earned a 12th-place finish in the NASCAR XFINITY Series event at Richmond International Raceway on Friday night.

“We fought hard tonight,” said Wallace after the race. “My guys worked hard all day long on this Bleacher Report Mustang but just struggled to find some overall grip. I’m proud of all of their effort and I’m looking forward to next weekend in Chicago and seeing if we can get a win before the Chase kicks off.”

Wallace began the evening from the 14th position after advancing to the second round of knockout qualifying on Friday afternoon. From the drop of the green flag Wallace reported to crew chief Seth Barbour that the Bleacher Report Mustang was very loose through the corners. Despite the loose-handling condition Wallace maintained his top-15 track position until a Lap 48 caution gave crew chief Barbour a chance to call the Roush Fenway Racing driver to pit road for four tires and a chassis adjustment.

Wallace returned to the track in the 11th position but utilized a Lap 56 restart to race into the top 10 and up to the eighth position. Wallace remained inside the top 10 throughout much of the middle portion of the event as a green flag run of over 100 laps increased the importance of track position.

Then, a caution on Lap 163 gave Wallace the opportunity to hit pit road once again for four tires and another chassis adjustment. The driver of the Bleacher Report Mustang took the ensuing restart from the 11th position and battled with Roush Fenway teammate Ryan Reed for position despite reporting that the car had shifted over to the tight-side.

In the closing stages Wallace would continue to race with teammate Reed before taking the checkered flag in the 12th position.
