NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES QUALIFYING CANCELLED AT DOVER
Persistent Rain Thwarts Sprint Cup Qualifying Session for Citizen Solider 400

DOVER, Del.  – September 30, 2016 – Qualifying for Sunday’s Citizen Solider 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Dover International Speedway has been cancelled due to persistent rainfall. The last race in the Chase for the championship Round of 16, field will be set per the provisions set forth in the NASCAR rulebook.  The starting grid is determined based on the current 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series owner’s points.

Last week’s winner at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Kevin Harvick, will pilot the No. 4 Jimmy John’s Chevrolet SS, from the sixth starting spot, leading the charge for Team Chevy at the Monster Mile.

Six-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion and 10-time Dover Winner, Jimmie Johnson will start eighth in the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet SS.  He will be followed by his rookie Hendrick Motorsports teammate and first time Chase participant, Chase Elliott behind the wheel of the No. 24 Mountain Dew Chevrolet SS, in ninth.

Kurt Busch, No. 41 Monster Energy/Haas Automation Chevrolet SS, Kyle Larson, No. 42 Target Chevrolet SS, Jamie McMurray, No. 1 Credit One Chevrolet SS, Austin Dillon, No. 3 AAA Chevrolet SS and Tony Stewart, No. 14 Nature’s Bakery Brownie/Mobil 1 Chevrolet SS will start 11th – 15th respectively.

Brad Keselowski (Ford) will start first, Martin Truex, Jr. (Toyota) will start second, Kyle Busch (Toyota) will take the green from the third starting spot, Matt Kenseth (Toyota) will roll off fourth and Joey Logano (Ford) will start fifth to complete the top five starters.

The third race of the 10-race Chase playoff and the first elimination race in this year’s championship battle from Dover International Speedway is scheduled to begin Sunday, October 2 at 2 p.m.Live coverage of the 300-lap/317.4-mile contest will be available on NBCSN, MRN, Sirius NASCAR Radio Channel 90 and NASCAR.com.
