NMPA Sprint Most Popular Voting Enters Final Weeks

DARLINGTON, S.C. – Approximately two weeks remain for fans to cast their votes for the 2016 National Motorsports Press Association Sprint Most Popular Driver Award.

Voting for the annual award is scheduled to close Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

The top 10 drivers according to fan voting through the first eight weeks of the contest are (in alphabetical order):

Kyle Busch (Joe Gibbs Racing No. 18 Toyota); Dale Earnhardt Jr. (Hendrick Motorsports No. 88 Chevrolet); Carl Edwards (Joe Gibbs Racing No. 19 Toyota); Chase Elliott (Hendrick Motorsports No. 24 Chevrolet); Jimmie Johnson (Hendrick Motorsports No. 48 Chevrolet); Kasey Kahne (Hendrick Motorsports No. 5 Chevrolet); Matt Kenseth (Joe Gibbs Racing No. 20 Toyota); Danica Patrick (Stewart-Haas Racing No. 10 Chevrolet); Tony Stewart (Stewart-Haas Racing No. 14 Chevrolet); Martin Truex Jr. (Furniture Row Racing No. 78 Toyota).

Fans can visit www.mostpopulardriver.com through either desktop or the NASCAR MOBILE app to vote. Voting is limited to one vote per person per email address per day.

The 2016 recipient of the NMPA Sprint Most Popular Driver Award will be announced Friday, Dec. 2 during the annual NASCAR Champion’s Week awards program in Las Vegas. NBCSN will air the post-season program beginning at 9 p.m. ET. MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR will provide live coverage of the awards show.

The MPD award, sponsored by Sprint and administered by the NMPA, has been presented annually since 1953. A $10,000 donation will be made to the recipient’s charity of choice.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. has won the previous 13 MPD awards. Former series champion Bill Elliott holds the record for most awards won with 16.
