Richard Boswell Named Vice President of Competition and Art Trejo Appointed Director of Development and Innovation in Newly Created Role Designed to Strengthen Overall Competition Program
WELCOME, NC (September 23, 2026) – Richard Childress Racing announced today two key leadership appointments designed to strengthen the organization’s competition program, accelerate technological innovation and position RCR for long-term success as the company prepares for the 2027 NASCAR season and beyond.
Richard Boswell, who has led Austin Dillon over the past two seasons as crew chief of the No. 3 Chevrolet in the NASCAR Cup Series, will take on a larger role with the race team as Vice President of Competition. Boswell will provide direction across RCR’s competition efforts, with a focus on performance, collaboration with key partner Chevrolet and building a stronger foundation for sustained success on the racetrack.
The son of a late model and Busch Series driver and a former driver himself, Boswell brings more than 15 years of professional motorsports experience to his new role. His career includes time at Hendrick Motorsports, JR Motorsports and Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR), where he helped launch the team’s O’Reilly Auto Parts Series program and oversaw its competition operations. He made his Cup Series crew chief debut at SHR, earning a victory with Chase Briscoe in 2024. Boswell joined RCR in 2025 and led Austin Dillon to a Cup Series win that same year.
Boswell’s leadership style, grounded in accountability and discipline, makes him well suited to lead RCR’s competition efforts. He will finish the current season as crew chief before moving fully into his new role at season’s end.
In addition to strengthening its competition leadership, RCR is expanding its focus on emerging technology with the creation of a Director of Development and Innovation position. Art Trejo has been appointed to the newly created role, where he will lead the company’s efforts to identify, develop and implement emerging technologies. Trejo’s background in military leadership, advanced technology and engineering will strengthen the organization. A 27-year Officer in the United States Navy with degrees from both Princeton University and UCLA, Trejo joins RCR from SpaceX and has extensive experience working in complex, technology-driven environments.
The addition of a dedicated Development and Innovation position represents a continued evolution of RCR’s approach to technology and innovation. The organization has increasingly incorporated advanced technology into its operations, including engineering, manufacturing and competition, while continuing to explore new opportunities and improve performance across the company.
