CHASTAIN ROLLS INTO RICHMOND
RICHMOND, Va. – Ross Chastain is 15th in Xfinity Series points entering Friday night’s Virginia529 College Savings 250 at Richmond International Raceway.
Friday’s race and next weekend’s event at Chicagoland Speedway are the final races in the Xfinity regular season. The final seven races of the year will make up the first Chase playoffs of the Xfinity Series.
Chastain is 48 points below the cutoff line for the final Chase qualifying spot. It’s a long shot, but solid finishes at Richmond and Chicago, paired with shuffling the standings, could put Chastain in the playoffs.
Chastain finished 18th in the spring race at Richmond.
“We’ll need a better run this time,” Chastain said. “The Richmond track changes so much during the race with tire buildup and such that it’s hard to keep a handle on it. But we’re bringing our best car.”
Richmond practice is scheduled at 8 a.m. (ET) Friday. Qualifying is set for 4:15 p.m., with the race green flag set for 7:30.
