INAUGURAL DRAG RACING NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS SET FOR FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 7TH AT THE CANADIAN MOTORSPORTS EXPO

The Canadian Racing Season Begins February 7, 8, & 9, 2014 at Toronto’s International Centre

(TORONTO, ON // JANUARY 28, 2014) The Canadian Motorsports Expo Powered by Inside Track Motorsport News, in conjunction with DSE Automotive, will continue a long-running tradition of supporting grassroots motorsports with the creation of the Drag Racing Night of Champions, a celebration geared towards recognizing the achievements of many of Canada’s top straight-line racers in 2013.

Sponsored by David Stirk Enterprises (DSE), the Drag Racing Night of Champions will take place Friday, February 7th at 7 p.m. The presentations will be hosted by former competitor, and respected drag racing announcer, Larry Satchell. The CME runs February 7, 8 & 9 in Hall 5 of Toronto’s International Centre.

“The Canadian Motorsports Expo will provide the various track and series points champions a moment in the spotlight in front of a much bigger audience,” explained Andrew Stirk, Marketing Manager for DSE Automotive and Race Director for the DSE Sportsman Series. “Drag racing tends to have a ‘niche’ fan base and sometimes we get lost among the other racing newsmakers. By joining forces with the Canadian Motorsports Expo, the Drag Racing Night of Champions will allow us to not only recognize some of the best drag racers in the province for their accomplishments, but also gives us the chance to create more awareness of the sport, and to let people know just how much drag racing is actually going on in Southern Ontario.”

Class champions from a dozen drag racing associations and race tracks will be honoured during the Drag Racing Night of Champions. Each attendee will be interviewed on the CME stage and then presented with a personalized award.

“Awards presentations have always been a part of the Canadian Motorsports Expo, but this ceremony will shine a light on the grassroots racers, the tracks and the series that are the lifeblood of the sport,” states show co-promoter David Weber. “Many of these champions have already been recognized at their own banquets and award ceremonies, but on February 7 they’ll be honoured in front of a huge segment of the drag racing community, including their families, sponsors and fellow competitors, as well as fans of other motorsport interests. We are very excited about this new addition to the Canadian Motorsports Expo lineup.”

In order for the class points champions to be individually honoured during the Drag Racing Night of Champions, they are encouraged to register for the show by going to the CME website (www.CanadianMotorsportsExpo.com) and click on the Drag Racing Night of Champions banner in the right-hand column. Once registered, attending drivers will be entitled to a personalized award, plus a ‘Swag Bag’ of sport-related items.

Concludes Stirk, “Any race, in whatever discipline, is tough to win. And winning a championship is even tougher. I’m very thankful that we’ll have a chance to recognize the achievements of the drag racing champions at the Canadian Motorsports Expo. Many of the drivers have received awards at their own galas, in front of their own, dedicated fans. Now we have the opportunity to showcase their accomplishments to an entirely new audience.”
