Double Duty…Coming off of his best NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Cup Series (NSCS) finish at Michigan (MIS), Justin Allgaier will be making his first NSCS start at Sonoma Raceway. This weekend’s race is the first of two road course races this season. Sonoma is also one of the few tracks Allgaier has never raced on before. In preparation for Sunday’s 219-mile race, Allgaier will be competing in the K&N Pro Series West race on Saturday, June 21 at Sonoma. Allgaier will race the No. 83 Grigg Brothers/BRANDT Chevrolet for Admiraal Racing. Statistics show Allgaier has typically favored road course races in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS). He has one win (Montreal 2012), two top fives and eight top 10s in 14 NNS road course starts.
Crew Chief Corner…Two of crew chief Steve Addington’s 20 wins came at Sonoma – Kyle Busch (2008) and Kurt Busch (2011).
Michigan Recap…Allgaier completed his first NSCS race at MIS last weekend. In qualifying, the No. 51 Carcoon Airflow Systems Chevy team advanced to the second round, earning the 17th starting spot and tying Allgaier’s best career starting spot set at Charlotte Motor Speedway earlier this season. In the 400-mile race, Allgaier ran as high as the fourth position at the 2.0-mile track. The 28-year-old earned his best NSCS finish, crossing the stripe in the 16th position for HScott Motorsports.
Sunoco Rookie of the Year…After graduating to the NSCS this season, Allgaier is competing for Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors in the No. 51 BRANDT Chevy. In 2009, Allgaier took home the Rookie of the Year title in the NNS. After Michigan, Allgaier is currently third in the standings, behind Kyle Larson and Austin Dillon.

“I’m thrilled to be going to Sonoma [Raceway]. My team had a great weekend at Michigan [International Speedway] and I’m hoping that momentum can carry into this weekend. I’ve never raced at Sonoma so I will have a pretty steep learning curve. I’ll be racing in the K&N Pro Series West on Saturday to gain experience. I’ve always enjoyed road racing, and I’m looking forward to the tough competition this weekend. My crew chief Steve Addington has a couple of wins there, so I will be relying on him for guidance.”

“Justin really likes road courses but with him never racing at Sonoma [Raceway] before, it will take some time for him to get acclimated. He will be able to use the K&N Series race as a learning opportunity for Sunday’s race. He will need to take care of the BRANDT Chevy during the race to be in the position to do well at the end. His confidence is up after Michigan last weekend, so hopefully that rolls over to this weekend.”

Spartanburg, S.C. native Steve Addington joined HScott Motorsports in January 2014 as competition director and crew chief for the No. 51 BRANDT Chevrolet SS. Steve comes to the team from Stewart-Haas Racing, where he spent the past two seasons as crew chief on the No. 14 team and earned four wins with Tony Stewart. Addington also served as a Sprint Cup Series crew chief at Team Penske and Joe Gibbs Racing, racking up a total of 20 wins in the series. Addington began his career working on dirt cars and is a former Nationwide Series crew chief. Addington resides in China Grove, N.C. with his wife Katie and has three children.
