COMING DOWN TO THE WIRE: Kahne has shown the ability to clinch a Chase for the Sprint Cup berth in the final races of a season. In 2014, Kahne led the final two laps at Atlanta Motor Speedway, then the penultimate race before the Chase, in order to clinch a postseason berth. The win was his first win of the season and his 17th career victory. Kahne earned the lead from Matt Kenseth in the second attempt at a green-white-checkered finish and won the race by 0.574 seconds.

FIVE KAHNE: Kahne started the Five Kahne 5K charity run in 2010 with the goal of building an annual event to generate funds for youth causes. 2015 marks the sixth year of the Five Kahne 5K presented by Great Clips. Jeff Gordon, driver of the No. 24 Axalta Chevrolet SS, is scheduled to visit the Bristol Motor Speedway media center at 3:30 p.m. local time Friday.
RAINBOW RETURN: Jeff Gordon will drive a specially painted No. 24 Axalta Chevrolet SS at Bristol Motor Speedway this weekend. The iconic rainbow paint scheme that appeared on No. 24 Chevrolets driven by Gordon from 1992 to 2000, including four straight victories for Gordon in the Spring race at Bristol from 1995 to 1998, will feature on the No. 24 Axalta Chevrolet SS at the annual night race.
ACTIVE LEADER AT BRISTOL: The 44-year old driver is tied for most wins among active drivers, while he is the active leader in pole positions, top-five finishes, top-10s, laps led and average starting position (7.7) at the high-banked short track.
POINTS UPDATE: Three races remain – Bristol, Darlington Raceway and Richmond International Raceway – before the 16-driver Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup field is set with Gordon currently ranked 13th, 55 points ahead of the cutoff position. Along with five victories at Bristol, the four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion has seven wins at Darlington and two victories at Richmond.

BRISTOL DRIVER RATING: According to NASCAR’s loop data statistics, Johnson has the eighth-best driver rating at Bristol with a score of 92.3 during the past 10 years at the track. The driver rating is a formula that combines wins, top-15 finishes, average running position while on the lead lap, average speed under green, fastest lap, most laps led and lead-lap finishes. The maximum a driver can earn in each race is 150 points. The driver rating number is used pre-race as a prediction tool and post-race as a performance evaluator.
DARLINGTON THROWBACK CAR UNVEILED: Last weekend at Michigan International Speedway, Johnson and longtime partner Lowe’s took to Twitter to unveil the paint scheme that will race at Darlington Raceway this coming Labor Day weekend. The No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet SS will join other paint schemes in giving NASCAR fans a flashback to prior decades of racing at the track. During the throwback weekend, Johnson’s Chevrolet will feature the 1940s and 1950s Lowe’s Home Improvement logo that was prominently used beginning with the company’s founding in 1946 through the time period in which Darlington Raceway first opened in 1950.
