We were as high as we could be on life going into that race. Well, keep in mind I was completely nervous about it but we had five great races, our five best races of the season all put together put us in that position to even be close to making it."

ARIC ALMIROLA, No. 43 Smithfield Ford Fusion – HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU BEEN ASKED IF YOU GUYS ARE REALLY GOING TO BE COMPETITIVE IN THE CHASE? YOU TIRED OF HEARING THAT? “A lot. You know I am not tired of it. We should be asked that question if we are going to be competitive or not in the Chase. The reality is that I think we finished 21st in points so that is a legitimate question, however, we have won a race and it got us in the Chase and the last two weeks finishing top-10 two weeks in a row has given us a lot of momentum. We show moments of brightness. We show on occasion that we are certainly capable of competing up front but just don’t do it all the time."

CARL EDWARDS, No. 99 Fastenal Ford Fusion – DID YOU HAVE TO BRUSH UP ON YOUR SPANISH GOING TO MEXICO CITY YESTERDAY? “Si senor. Buen dias mi amigos. That was really fun yesterday actually. I had a good time. The whole thing was an adventure. I requested to go to Mexico City because I had a blast there running the Nationwide races there a few years back and then for me I wanted to try to fly down there by myself and do all the logistics and everything. Cesna helped me a bunch and it was an adventure. Just to get in my plane and fly to Mexico City and to be able to actually get it done and everything was really fun for me.”

DO YOU AGREE? “Well, you can win a lot of different ways with this format. I don’t think there is one way you can win or one way you can lose. That is definitely one of the ways you can win but not the only way.”

Rookie Respect: Although Kyle Larson won’t be making a run for the NASCAR Sprint Cup over the next 10 races, he will be continuing to race for rookie of the year honors at season’s end. Currently, the Sunoco Rookie of the Year candidate has a 52-point lead in the rookie point standings and has been the top-finishing rookie driver in 18 of 26 races, finishing inside the top-10 on 11 occasions.

Justin Allgaier will make his second NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) start in the No. 51 BRANDT Professional Agriculture Chevy at Chicagoland Speedway on Sunday. Chicagoland was the site of the Riverton, Ill. native's NSCS debut last year in the No. 51 BRANDT Chevy.

Jimmie Johnson’s team found a problem with his helmet’s cooling system that led to his dehydration following the race at Richmond International Raceway Saturday night. After an eighth place finish, as Johnson exited his car, he began experiencing leg cramps and dizziness. He was assisted to the infield care center where he received five liters of intravenous fluids.

After 26 races in the regular NASCAR Sprint Cup season, the field of 16 contenders has been set, and eight Chevrolet SS teams and drivers are ready to begin the long-awaited 10-race Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.
