For the 28th time in his career, and the second time at Martinsville (VA) Speedway, Jimmie Johnson will lead the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) field to the green flag.

Chase contender Jimmie Johnson sets fast lap in qualifying at Martinsville Speedway for the Sunday's Tums 500. Johnson turned a lap of 97.598 MPH (19.402 SECS), edging out Brian Vickers who was fastest in practice and therefore was the last car to attempt qualifying.

Sam Hornish Jr. (No. 22 Shell/Pennzoil Dodge Charger R/T) Qualified 27th “Just not the lap that we were looking for with our Shell/Pennzoil Dodge. We can’t get the car stopped into the corner or else it’s slow. We’ll start towards the back and see what we can do on Sunday.”

MATT KENSETH – No. 17 Ford EcoBoost Ford Fusion – “That’s a great lap for us. I feel like I missed it there a little bit and the car had a little more in it, but I think that will get us a top 10 start and that will be a lot better than usual. It’s always been challenging, but I feel like us with the 17 have been pretty competitive over the last four or five races with maybe top-five or top-10 cars and that’s really good for us here."

JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 LOWE’S CHEVROLET – POLE WINNER - IS THIS THE PLACE YOU FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE TO SCORE THOSE POINTS? “You know, on paper it kind of looks that way. But you just never know. When the playoffs hit, it doesn’t matter what sport it is, crazy things happen. And with that being said, yeah, we come here thinking that we should be able to get some points on the 2 (Brad Keselowski), but you never know."

I was trying to get a good lap in and just rear brakes -- had a little too much rear brake in it and started wheel-hopping. It's all good. Didn't hit anything so I'm happy about that."
