Before six-time Talladega Superspeedway winner Dale Earnhardt Jr. takes his final laps at the track he considers his "second home" in Sunday’s Alabama 500 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) race, the track surprised him Friday afternoon by presenting him – on permanent loan – with the No. 2 Chevrolet Monte Carlo driven by his father Dale Earnhardt Sr. to the 1980 NASCAR Championship title. The presentation was made by Grant Lynch, Charmain of Talladega Superspeedway, and Alabama Senator Gerald Dial, Chairman of the Board of the International Motorsports Hall of Fame (IMHOF), located outside of the 2.66-mile track.

You want more than that? Yeah, I mean, feel as good as you can ever feel. Going into Talladega, you never can tell what's going to happen here. You know, the way everybody kind of practices today, gets ready to qualify and all that, you never really know how much speed you have until the race gets started, you get racing with everybody. So just kind of looking forward to getting through the next two days and get racing Sunday.”

Joey Logano, driver of the No. 22 AAA Ford Fusion, knows what it’s like to win a Playoff race at Talladega Superspeedway. He visited the infield media center on Friday morning to talk about this weekend’s race, along with other issues before practice.

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and the Camping World Truck Series head to Talladega Superspeedway as the Playoffs continue. It’s the second race in the Round of 12 for the Cup Series while the Truck Series will eliminate two drivers from its Round of 8.
