Daniel Suarez made history in South Florida as a victory in Miami made him champion of the XFINITY Series. Starting on the pole, he dominated the race, leading 133 of the 200 laps. However, the championship the whole race was never a lock for the native of Mexico, as each of the Championship 4 drivers spent time at the head of the field.

It’s been a rapid rise for Daniel Suárez, who captured the 2016 NASCAR XFINITY Series championship Saturday at Homestead-Miami Speedway by winning the Ford EcoBoost 300 in only his second full-time season of NASCAR national series racing.

Ford Championship Weekend is in full swing, and to celebrate the XFINITY Series championship race on Saturday, Homestead-Miami Speedway announced Johnathan Hillstrand, star of the show “Deadliest Catch,” as the Grand Marshall for the Ford EcoBoost 300.

Chip Ganassi Racing (CGR) announced today that Tyler Reddick, a current driver and a three-time winner in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS), will pilot the No. 42 Chevrolet Camaro in multiple NASCAR XFINITY Series races in 2017. Reddick, 20, will share the No. 42 Chevrolet with 2014 NASCAR Sprint Series Rookie of the Year and 2016 member of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, Kyle Larson. Veteran XFINITY Series crew chief Mike Shiplett will continue to lead the No. 42 team.

Smithley has scored eight top-20 runs in a season in which he raced on many of the Xfinity tracks for the first time. He enters Saturday’s race 18th in Xfinity points – in front of three drivers who have run the entire schedule (Smithley missed the season-opener at Daytona International Speedway).

The Xfinity Series season will end with Saturday’s Ford EcoBoost 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, and Ryan Preece will be in the field in the Mizzy Construction Chevrolet.

Saturday’s Ford EcoBoost 300 will be Chastain’s seventh race at the 1.5-mile track. He has raced in two Xfinity races and four Camping World Truck Series events at Homestead, and his record includes two top-10 runs in trucks.
