What’s a NASCAR driver to do in the off season? For many, there are sponsor commitments, testing, and just plain relaxing with family and friends. But for some of NASCAR’s brightest stars, this time of year is all about putting the ‘fa la la’ in the holiday season, especially for those in need.

NASCAR has a talent-laden farm system loaded with the stock car racing’s future stars. From the NASCAR Nationwide and NASCAR Craftsman Truck series through the sanctioning body’s touring divisions and on the Whelen All-American tracks, there’s a single common denominator: Youth, lightning fast youth.

For the second time in as many days, a NASCAR race at Iowa Speedway has been named a ‘Top Race’, this time by the Nationwide Series. As one of only three out of 34 Nationwide races in 2012 honored by the sanctioning body, the May 20 ‘Pioneer Hi-Bred 250’ had the ‘top’ rating for competition and entertainment value.

Only in video games do the entire field wreck and the driver running almost last win the race. But to open the 2012 season that’s exactly what happened when the leaders all wrecked coming off turn four and Buescher, who was running 11th, came through for the win.

Every NASCAR fan can agree that the Sprint Cup Series has an excess number of mile and a half tracks on the schedule. Mile and a half tracks don’t feature the close, competitive racing that superspeedway’s, short tracks and road courses do. NASCAR is always looking for fan input on the series and one suggestion they’re not listening to is fans no longer wanting as many mile and a half tracks on the schedule.

Talladega Superspeedway is currently accepting applications for Fan Advisory Network (FAN) members, but time is running out. The deadline for submissions is Monday, December 3rd.
