After nearly two days of rain-soaked conditions, the nitro-powered Toyotas were finally able to take to the Gainesville Raceway for only one round of qualifying in advance of tomorrow’s Gatornationals.
The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Camping World Drag Racing Series’ traditional east coast season opener takes place this weekend at the historic Gainesville Raceway with Dodge//SRT and Mopar racers excited to get staged for the Amalie Motor Oil Gatornationals.
In securing the No. 1 qualifying position on Saturday for the NHRA Arizona Nationals, Hagan set a new track record (3.823 ET at 333.41 mph), surpassing Courtney Force for the quickest run ever at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park.
As the NHRA made it’s second stop of the season at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park outside Phoenix, Arizona, TGRNA (Toyota Gazoo Racing North America) claimed the number one qualifier with Doug Kalitta in his Toyota Top Fuel dragster and Steve Torrence drove his Toyota Top Fuel dragster to the semi-finals.
Inconsistency, acknowledges Robert Hight, was the main culprit preventing the three-time NHRA Funny Car champion and the Auto Club of Southern California Chevrolet Camaro SS from contending for the 2021 title.
Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park is located in Chandler, Arizona, just on the outskirts of Phoenix. It is a multi-use race facility that includes four racetracks – an NHRA sanctioned drag strip, a 1.6-mile road course, a 10-turn 1.25 mile road course, and a 1.1 mile road course. The drag strip is home to this weekend’s NHRA Arizona Nationals.
Shane van Gisbergen started on the pole, led the most laps and captured the checkered flag in today’s Pit Boss/FoodMaxx 250 NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race at Sonoma Raceway.
The three-time Supercars champion from Auckland, New Zealand, led a race-high 66 of 79 laps and had enough fuel to notch his second O'Reilly Auto Parts Series victory at Sonoma in three years.
