  • John Force Racing heads to zMAX Dragway this weekend looking to defend last year’s double-up by Austin Prock (Top Fuel) and Robert Hight (Funny Car).
  • John Force, driver of the PEAK Antifreeze and Coolant Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car, enters Charlotte this weekend the winningest Four-Wide Funny Car driver at the track with four wins. Force defeated his daughter Ashley by .021-seconds in 2010 to claim the inaugural event victory. Force additionally won back-to-back in 2021 and 2022 where he also qualified No. 1 in both events.
  • Austin Prock, driver of the Cornwell Tools Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car, won last year’s Four-Wide event at Charlotte in Top Fuel, and enters Charlotte this weekend leading the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Funny Car points standings. Robert Hight, Prock’s teammate and who he is filling in for while sidelined for medical reasons in Funny Car, also won last year’s event in Funny Car while setting the track record later in the Fall.
  • Finishing runner-up at the Las Vegas Four-Wide event, Prock will also take part in this weekend’s Mission Foods #2Fast2Tasty Challenge. Bonus points and a cash prize are up for grabs in the unique race-within-a-race format.

  • Force, after finishing runner-up in Las Vegas, will also participate in the Mission Foods #2Fast2Tasty Challenge at Charlotte in Top Fuel this weekend.
  • Pro Stock saw Deric Kramer racing to victory for the Bowtie brand in 2023’s Four-Wide Nationals, after Matt Hartford qualified No. 1. Both look to either defend or capture the 2024 NHRA Four-Wide Nationals Wally trophy.

Quotes:

BRITTANY FORCE, DRIVER OF THE MONSTER ENERGY CHEVROLET TOP FUEL DRAGSTER:

“Our team is looking forward to Charlotte, the second Four-Wide of the season. We have had success in the past at zMAX (Dragway), and would love to get our first win of the season.”

AUSTIN PROCK, DRIVER OF THE CORNWELL TOOLS CHEVROLET CAMARO SS FUNNY CAR:

“I think everybody will be a little bit better going into the Four-Wide, especially on the starting line just because they got all their tendencies out the way (last week at Las Vegas). In the first one (Four-Wide of the season), it always seems like everyone struggles a little bit more. But I’ve had personal success there (at Charlotte). This race car that I’m driving has had a lot of success there, so I’m looking forward to it. Last time in the spring last year, my Top Fuel dragster and this Funny Car right here doubled-up together. Maybe we can double up with Brittany (Force) this year. That’d be pretty special.”

Can the team continue its success?

“I believe so. I don’t see why not. This team is just honed in right now, and our package is working, so we’ve just got to keep making smart decisions. I’ve got to keep making smart decisions driving this thing and we’ll see where our cards fall. But like I’ve said all year, if everybody does their best over here, we’re going to be hard to beat every weekend.”

Has your success hit you yet?

“No, it still really hasn’t hit me. I’m living a fairy tale right now. I think it’s a good thing that it hasn’t hit me. I think we just need to keep our head down and keep focused and keep doing the job we’re doing because it’s been working. So don’t get too high, don’t get too low, but we’ve definitely got to celebrate the year we’ve had.”

JOHN FORCE, DRIVER OF THE PEAK ANTIFREEZE & COOLANT CHEVROLET CAMARO SS FUNNY CAR:

“Bruton Smith built the Four-Wides at Charlotte and at Vegas, and it has created a lot of excitement with the fans. It is tough on the crew chiefs and the drivers. There is a lot going on there when you talk about each lane having over 10,000 horsepower. That’s 40,000 horsepower, and I think that is more than an entire NASCAR field, but I love it.”

How to Watch:

The 2024 NHRA Four-Wide Nationals kick off Friday, April 26 at zMAX Dragway with qualifying airing Sunday at 11 a.m. ET. The NHRA Four-Wide Nationals Finals air at 6 p.m. ET, also on Sunday. All sessions from Charlotte air with NHRA on FOX on FOX Sports 1 (FS1). Coverage streams live throughout the weekend on NHRA.tv, and is available via AppleTV, Android TV, and Roku devices.

Toyota Racing – Weekly Preview – 04.24.24

This Week in Motorsports: April 22 – 28, 2024

  • NCS/NXS/ARCA: Dover Motor Speedway – April 26-28
  • NHRA: zMAX Dragway – April 26-28

PLANO, Texas (April 24, 2024) – After the chaotic finishes at Talladega, NASCAR’s Cup and Xfinity Series return to their short track packages this weekend at Dover Motor Speedway. The series will be joined by the ARCA Menards Series who will also battle on the Delaware mile-long speedway. The NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series also competes in their second four-wide event of the season at zMAX Dragway, just outside of Charlotte.

NASCAR National Series – NCS | NXS

Points standings continue to sway … Sunday’s wild race at Talladega caused a shakeup in the NASCAR Cup Series points standings, including for race winner, Tyler Reddick. The 23XI Racing driver jumped three spots in the standings to fifth, while also punching his ticket to the Playoffs for the fourth consecutive season. Martin Truex Jr. held his points position in second and is joined inside the top 16 of the standings by Toyota teammates: Denny Hamlin (sixth), Ty Gibbs (eighth), Bubba Wallace (11th) and Christopher Bell (13th).

Heim makes first career Cup Series start … Filling in for the injured Erik Jones, 21-year-old Corey Heim will make his first career NASCAR Cup Series start this weekend at Dover in the No. 43 Toyota Camry XSE for LEGACY MOTOR CLUB. The Georgia native will be doing double duty this weekend, also running the Xfinity Series race in the No. 26 GR Supra for Sam Hunt Racing (SHR). The Toyota Development Driver has made two previous starts in his career at Dover, including making his Xfinity Series debut one year ago.

Reddick continues hot streak … With his win on Sunday, Reddick now has five consecutive top-10 finishes, and seven in the last eight races, as he continues to climb up the series points standings. The California native returns to Dover this weekend where he also finished in the top-10 last season.

Truex brothers go for repeats … Dover 2023 was a dream weekend for the Truex brothers, Martin and Ryan, as both captured victories in back-to-back days. The two each look to repeat this weekend, with Ryan in the Xfinity Series piloting the No. 20 GR Supra for Joe Gibbs Racing and Martin with his No. 19 Camry XSE on Sunday in the Cup Series. A win for Martin would be the 35th of his Cup Series career and a victory for Ryan would be his second in the Xfinity Series.

Johnson makes third start of 2024 … Jimmie Johnson is back in the No. 84 Toyota Camry XSE this weekend at Dover Motor Speedway. Dover has been a strong track for the seven-time series champion, where he’s accrued 11 wins, 18 top-fives and 27 top-10s in 38 previous starts at the “Monster Mile.” This weekend will also be the Hall-of-Famer’s 692nd career Cup Series start as he closes in on 700.

Toyotas stay put in Xfinity Series points … Heading to Dover, Toyota’s full-time Xfinity Series drivers held steady in the series points standings. Chandler Smith leads the standings by 14 points with shuffling of positions below him. His Toyota and Joe Gibbs Racing teammate, Sheldon Creed, stayed in the 10th position after a top-10 finish at Talladega last weekend.

Short track dominance to begin 2024… Like its run in the Cup Series, Toyota has had a dominant start to the 2024 Xfinity Series season on the short tracks. A Toyota GR Supra has won the first three short tracks so far, with Smith triumphant at Phoenix and Richmond, while Aric Almirola won at Martinsville. Toyota also seeks a Dover repeat following Truex’s win last season.

NASCAR Regional Series – ARCA Menards Series

Toyota seeks history-making 15th straight win … Following Jake Finch’s victory at Talladega, Toyota comes to Dover looking for its 15th consecutive win in the ARCA Menards Series, as well as its fourth straight to begin 2024. A triumph for Toyota would tie its own record of 15 straight wins, which was also previously earned in 2019 and 2020.

NHRA – Top Fuel | Funny Car

Toyotas topping NHRA points … Through four races of the 2024 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season, Toyota drivers find themselves towards the top of the points standings in both the Top Fuel and Funny Car categories. In Top Fuel, Toyota owns the top five positions with Justin Ashley (first), Shawn Langdon (second), Steve Torrence (third), Doug Kalitta (fourth) and Billy Torrence (fifth). Antron Brown sits ninth in the category standings. In Funny Car, J.R. Todd leads the GR Supra contingent in the second position, with Ron Capps in sixth and Alexis DeJoria in seventh.

Does Top Fuel win streak continue? … Following Kalitta’s dramatic victory at the Las Vegas Four-Wide Nationals two weeks ago, Toyota comes to zMAX Dragway in Charlotte with five consecutive Top Fuel victories and four consecutive to start 2024. Kalitta and Toyota also return to zMAX Dragway as the reining winners, claiming victory last September on the way to his Top Fuel world championship.

INDYCAR Announces St. Petersburg Penalties

INDIANAPOLIS (Wednesday, April 24, 2024) – INDYCAR has announced penalties for Team Penske, including disqualifications for the No. 2 (driver Josef Newgarden) and No. 3 (Scott McLaughlin) and a 10-point penalty for No. 12 (Will Power) from the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg presented by RP Funding on Sunday, March 10 on the Streets of St. Petersburg.

Team Penske was in violation of the following “Push to Pass” parameters:

  • Rule 14.19.15. An indicator to enable Push to Pass will be sent via CAN communication from the timing and scoring beacon on board the Car to the team data logger. This signal must be passed on to the ECU unmodified and uninterrupted during all Road and Street Course Events.
  • Rule 14.19.16. Race Starts and any Race Restart that occurs before the lap prior to the white flag or prior to three minutes remaining in a timed Race Event will have the Push to Pass system disabled and will be enabled for a given Car once that Car reaches the alternate Start/Finish line.

According to the rulebook, the violation is considered a Race Procedure Penalty (9.2.2.), which includes the right to reposition the Driver/Car in the posting or results, with a disqualification (9.2.2.6.) that includes the forfeiture of points and awards.

During the Sunday, April 21 warmup session ahead of the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, INDYCAR discovered the team’s possible rules violation.

An extensive review of data from the race on the Streets of St. Petersburg revealed that Team Penske manipulated the overtake system so that the No. 2, 3 and 12 cars had the ability to use Push to Pass on starts and restarts. According to the INDYCAR rulebook, use of overtake is not available during championship races until the car reaches the alternate start-finish line.

It was determined that the No. 2 and the No. 3 gained a competitive advantage by using Push to Pass on restarts while the No. 12 did not.

Additionally, all three entries have been fined $25,000 and will forfeit all prize money associated with the Streets of St. Petersburg race.

“The integrity of the INDYCAR SERIES championship is critical to everything we do,” INDYCAR President Jay Frye said. “While the violation went undetected at St. Petersburg, INDYCAR discovered the manipulation during Sunday’s warmup in Long Beach and immediately addressed it ensuring all cars were compliant for the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach. Beginning with this week’s race at Barber Motorsports Park, new technical inspection procedures will be in place to deter this violation.”

Due to the disqualification penalty of the No 2, the No. 5 entry of Arrow McLaren driven by Pato O’Ward is now credited with the win on the Streets of St. Petersburg.

An updated official final results from the St. Petersburg race is available here with updated 2024 season standings available here.

Members may contest the imposition of the penalties detailed in the review and appeal procedures of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES rulebook.

The Panic After a Collision: What Happens If Both Drivers Leave the Scene of an Accident?

Photo by Nimrod Persson on Unsplash

The adrenaline surges, your heart pounds a frantic rhythm against your ribs. You just experienced a car accident. Disoriented and shaken, you check yourself for injuries, relief washing over you when you find none. But as you glance at the other vehicle, crumpled and lifeless in the fading light, a horrifying question arises: what happens if both drivers leave the scene of an accident?

Imagine the scene: a rainy night on a deserted Florida highway. Sarah, a young marketing professional, is driving home after a long day. Suddenly, a car swerves into her lane, the impact a sickening crunch of metal. Disoriented and scared, Sarah sees the other driver speed away, leaving her with a damaged car and a gnawing sense of injustice. Fear takes hold – should she follow? What if the other driver is dangerous?

This scenario, while frightening, is more common than you might think. According to a AAA report: [invalid URL removed], hit-and-run crashes account for nearly 11% of all reported crashes nationwide. And in the aftermath of such a collision, the question of what happens if both drivers leave the scene can be immensely stressful.

This article will guide you through the complexities of a hit-and-run accident, offering valuable solutions and resources to help you navigate this challenging situation.

The Legal Repercussions of Leaving the Scene

What happens if both drivers leave the scene of an accident is a question with serious legal ramifications. In almost every state, including Florida, leaving the scene of an accident, even a minor one, is a crime. The severity of the charges can vary depending on factors like:

  • Presence of injuries: If there are injuries involved, leaving the scene can be a felony, potentially resulting in jail time and a suspended license.
  • Property damage: Even if there are no injuries, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage can be a misdemeanor, carrying fines and license suspension.

Leaving the scene also weakens your position in any potential insurance claim. Without a police report and witness statements, it becomes significantly harder to prove your innocence and recover damages.

What To Do After a Hit-and-Run Accident

The immediate aftermath of a hit-and-run accident can be overwhelming. However, taking the following steps can significantly improve your chances of a successful resolution:

  1. Ensure your safety: If possible, move your car to a safe location away from traffic. Check yourself and any passengers for injuries. If necessary, call 911 immediately.
  2. Gather evidence: Take pictures of the scene, including the damage to your vehicle, skid marks, and any debris. If possible, note down the make, model, and license plate number of the fleeing vehicle.
  3. Report the accident: Even if the other driver fled, it’s crucial to file a police report. Provide the responding officer with all the details you can remember about the accident.
  4. Contact your insurance company: Inform your insurance provider about the accident as soon as possible. They will guide you through the claims process and help you recover damages.

The Emotional Toll and Finding Support

What happens if both drivers leave the scene of an accident isn’t just a legal question; it’s an emotional one too. The feeling of violation and helplessness after a hit-and-run can be overwhelming.  If you’ve been a victim of a hit-and-run, remember, you’re not alone.

Here are some resources that can offer emotional support and guidance:

  • The National Center for Victims of Crime: Provides support groups and resources for victims of crime, including hit-and-run accidents. (https://victimsofcrime.org/)
  • The American Psychological Association: Offers resources on coping with trauma and emotional distress. (https://www.apa.org/)

Taking Control: How to Prevent Hit-and-Run Accidents

While there’s no guaranteed way to prevent a hit-and-run accident, here are some steps you can take to minimize the risk:

  • Be a defensive driver: Stay alert, maintain a safe following distance, and avoid distractions while driving.
  • Invest in a dashcam: A dashcam can provide valuable video evidence in case of a hit-and-run accident.
  • Park in well-lit areas: If possible, park your car in a well-lit and secure location at night.

FAQs on Hit-and-Run Accidents

What happens if I accidentally leave the scene of a minor accident?

If you’re involved in a minor accident and leave the scene unintentionally (perhaps due to shock or confusion), it’s crucial to return to the scene as soon as possible and contact the authorities. Explain the situation honestly and cooperate with the investigation.

What happens if I can’t identify the driver who left the scene?

Even if you can’t identify the driver, filing a police report and gathering evidence can still be helpful. Your insurance company might be able to track down the at-fault driver through other means, or you may have uninsured motorist coverage that can compensate you for damages.

Should I contact a lawyer after a hit-and-run accident?

Consulting with an attorney specializing in car accidents can be beneficial. They can advise you on your legal rights, navigate the insurance claim process, and help you recover the maximum compensation you deserve.

What if the hit-and-run driver damages my parked car and leaves?

Report the incident to the police and contact your insurance company.  Depending on your comprehensive coverage, you might be able to recover the repair costs.

Is there a time limit for reporting a hit-and-run accident?

While reporting the accident promptly is always best,  time limits for filing a police report can vary by state. It’s crucial to check with your local authorities or insurance company for specific deadlines.

Remember, You’re Not Alone

Being a victim of a hit-and-run accident can be a frightening and frustrating experience. But by staying calm, taking the necessary steps, and seeking support, you can navigate this challenging situation and get the help you deserve. Remember, there are resources available to assist you, both legally and emotionally. Don’t hesitate to reach out for help.

The Aftermath of a Car Accident: How a Lawyer Can Help You Recover

We understand the overwhelming emotions and challenges that come with being involved in a car accident. The physical pain, emotional trauma, and financial burden can feel insurmountable. You may find yourself asking, “How will I pay for medical bills? What about my lost wages? How can I ensure that my rights are protected?” These are all valid concerns, and you don’t have to face them alone. This is where a car accident lawyer can step in to help you through the complex legal process and fight for the compensation you deserve.

The Importance of Seeking Legal Counsel

Imagine this scenario: You’re driving home from work on a busy highway in Virginia when suddenly, another vehicle swerves into your lane and collides with your car. The impact is severe, and you’re left with significant injuries that require immediate medical attention. As you’re being transported to the hospital, your mind races with worries about your health, your ability to work, and how you’ll support your family during this difficult time.

It’s in moments like these that having a car accident lawyer by your side can make all the difference. A skilled attorney can:

– Investigate the accident and gather evidence to build a strong case on your behalf

– Communicate with insurance companies and negotiate fair settlements

– Represent you in court, if necessary, to ensure that you receive the maximum compensation possible

The Role of Experience and Expertise

When choosing a car accident lawyer, it’s crucial to select someone with extensive experience and a proven track record of success. An experienced attorney will have a deep understanding of Virginia’s legal system and the strategies needed to secure favorable outcomes for their clients.

Consider the story of Sarah, a young mother who was rear-ended by a distracted driver while stopped at a red light. The collision left her with a severe whiplash injury that required months of physical therapy and forced her to miss work. Sarah knew she needed help, so she reached out to a reputable car accident lawyer in her area.

“I was hesitant to hire a lawyer at first,” Sarah confessed, “but it was the best decision I could have made. My attorney took care of everything, from dealing with the insurance company to making sure I received the medical care I needed. I couldn’t have gotten through this without their support.”

The Benefits of Working with a Car Accident Lawyer

When you work with a car accident lawyer, you can expect:

1. Personalized attention and compassionate support throughout the legal process

2. Thorough investigation and evidence gathering to strengthen your case

3. Skilled negotiation with insurance companies to secure fair compensation

4. Aggressive representation in court, if necessary, to protect your rights

 Maximizing Your Compensation

One of the primary goals of a car accident lawyer is to help you obtain the maximum compensation possible for your injuries and losses. According to a recent study, the average settlement for a car accident claim in Virginia is $18,000. However, with the help of an experienced attorney, you may be able to secure a much higher settlement that accounts for:

– Medical expenses, both current and future

– Lost wages and earning capacity

– Pain and suffering

– Property damage

– Other accident-related costs

  • 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Nicky Catsburg will join George Kurtz, Colin Braun in CrowdStrike-sponsored LMP2 entry
  • Kurtz, Braun part of 2023 LMP2 Pro-Am winning lineup in French endurance race
  • Kurtz’s 2023 success earns CrowdStrike Racing by APR automatic invite

AUSTIN, Texas (April 24, 2024) – CrowdStrike Racing by APR (Algarve Pro Racing) has completed its driver lineup for the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans by adding Nicky Catsburg to drive alongside George Kurtz and Colin Braun.

The trio will drive the No. 45 CrowdStrike-sponsored ORECA-Gibson LMP2 prototype during the June 15-16 race, which takes place in the French town of Le Mans. Kurtz and Braun won last year’s LMP2 Pro-Am race in an APR entry.

The addition of Catsburg gives CrowdStrike Racing by APR three defending Le Mans race winners. Catsburg won in GTE Am last year in a Corvette for his first victory at the French classic. He is one of the most accomplished names in racing, with victories at Le Mans, the Nürburgring 24 Hours and CrowdStrike Spa 24 Hours in the last 12 months.

Catsburg also captured the FIA WEC GTE Am title and the Asian Le Mans Series’ GT championship in 2023. This year’s Le Mans will be his first race in a prototype although he has testing experience to his credit in addition to a stellar career in production-based GT racing.

CrowdStrike by APR earned its invitation to this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans following a stellar 2023 season in which Kurtz claimed the IMSA Jim Trueman Award, presented to the top Bronze-rated driver in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s LMP2 class. Kurtz and CrowdStrike by APR claimed two race victories – including the 10-hour Petit Le Mans – and won the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup in LMP2.

Starting the 2024 season strong, Kurtz and Braun have already captured the Asian Le Mans Series’ LMP2 championship for CrowdStrike Racing by APR. The pairing stand fourth in this year’s WeatherTech SportsCar Championship LMP2 points standings and Endurance Cup rankings after two races to date.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is the inspiration behind the European Le Mans race season, a six-race endurance series awarding the winners an automatic invitation to the French classic. APR is fielding two independent LMP2 entries in the 2024 season which will be housed in the CrowdStrike-branded team garage at all ELMS races.

Nicky Catsburg, No. 45 CrowdStrike ORECA 07-Gibson: “It is a very big honor to be part of CrowdStrike Racing by APR at this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans. I feel like Le Mans is always a race that is ‘unmissable’… as in we all as drivers want to do this race every year.

“It’s a very cool opportunity for me to do this in a class that I haven’t raced in before. I have some mileage in an LMP2 car but not a lot; it’s been six or seven years since I drove one of these cars. So it will be a steep learning curve but with Colin as my teammate, he’s going to get me up to speed quite quickly. I feel like with George that we form a strong lineup that should be able to fight for the win in the class. It’s also very cool for me to work with the APR team. I have known Stuart and Samantha Cox for a long time and many years ago I did quite a bit of work with them. So it’s nice to join them. It’s a new challenge and a racecar with a bit more downforce than what I am used to. I’m looking forward to jumping in the car for the first time. We obviously will do some testing before Le Mans, and I can’t wait for it.”

George Kurtz, CrowdStrike Racing by APR Driver: “I’m very happy for Nicky to join Colin and me for our Le Mans lineup. Together, we will bring a team powered by strength, experience and a tradition of winning to the CrowdStrike Racing by APR LMP2 entry. Nicky’s record speaks for itself with a win at Le Mans and some of the biggest races in the world. His experience and talent will be valuable as we go for a second straight Pro-Am victory at Le Mans.”

Stewart Cox, Algarve Pro Racing: “Winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in two consecutive seasons was a remarkable achievement, and to take the LMP2 Pro-Am victory in the first year of our partnership with CrowdStrike and George (Kurtz) is something we’re very proud of.

“There are so many elements to a Le Mans victory and much of it was down to the thoroughness of our preparation, as well as a supreme attention-to-detail in the way each track session was managed. In fact, it’s an approach that also helped us to the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup, Asian Le Mans Series and European Le Mans Series titles.”

Cox added: “Alongside George and Colin (Braun) will be Nicky Catsburg, who we know to be incredibly fast with masses of experience as a works driver in a variety of high-level categories. There’s no doubt we have one of the most complete driver line-ups and we know how to win, so we are determined to make it three on the trot in the 2024 edition of Le Mans.”
