Shore Lunch, Dutch Boy® Paints To Sponsor ARCA Menards Series at Elko

TEMPERANCE, Mich. (May 16, 2024) – The ARCA Menards Series’ annual visit to Elko Speedway will carry the entitlement sponsorship from two long-time series partners, Shore Lunch and Dutch Boy® Paints. The Shore Lunch 250 Presented by Dutch Boy® Paints is set for Saturday, August 3 at the tight 0.375-mile oval located just outside of Minneapolis/St. Paul.

The ARCA Menards Series first raced at Elko Speedway in 2012, with current NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Brennan Poole scoring the victory. Other winners include the series’ all-time leading winner Frank Kimmel in 2013, current NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver and 2015 ARCA Menards Series champion Grant Enfinger in 2014, Austin Theriault in his 2017 championship season, 2024 ARCA Menards Series winner at Daytona International Speedway Gus Dean in 2018, five-time NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series winner and two-time NASCAR Xfinity Series winner Chandler Smith in 2019, six-time NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series winner Corey Heim won in 2021, current NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Sammy Smith, who scored his first career series win last season at Phoenix Raceway, won in 2022, and reigning ARCA Menards Series champion Jesse Love won in 2023.

“Elko Speedway is known for the full contact fender-to-fender racing that has been the hallmark of the ARCA Menards Series for more than 70 years,” said ARCA president Ron Drager. “Every former winner at Elko is either a former series champion or has gone on to race and be successful in one of the three NASCAR national series. We look forward to seeing which one of our current drivers joins that exclusive list in 2024.”

Shore Lunch soups, breading, and batters first partnered with ARCA series sponsor Menards in 2016. The business-to-business relationship between Menards, the country’s third-largest home improvement retailer, and Homegrown Family Foods, a leading food company with brands such as Kentucky Kernal, Southern Biscuit, Southeastern Mills, Crockery Gourmet along with Shore Lunch, brings opportunities to showcase the entire line of the company’s brands to the Minneapolis/St. Paul area’s Menards customer base and racing community.

“The 2023 Shore Lunch 200 was one of the most exciting races of the season,” said Keith Vines COO for Homegrown Family Foods. “The fans saw a great race and we anticipate the Shore Lunch 250 at the Elko Speedway in August will be very exciting and look forward to being part of the race. Homegrown Family Foods is proud to be continuing our sponsorship under our Shore Lunch brand for this race.”

“We are proud to showcase our partnership with Shore Lunch as sponsors for the upcoming ARCA Menards Series entitlement race at Elko,” said Michelle Bangs, senior brand manager, Dutch Boy® Paints. “Motorsports is a celebration of performance, resilience and innovation—values that resonate deeply with our brand. CHICAGO (May 16, 2024) – The Chicago White Sox and Front Row Motorsports (FRM) announce a partnership designating the White Sox as the primary sponsor of Michael McDowell’s No. 34 Ford Mustang Dark Horse for the NASCAR Chicago Street Race’s Grant Park 165 NASCAR Cup Series race in Grant Park, July 6-7.

The partnership will showcase White Sox branding on both the car’s custom design and McDowell’s No. 34 fire suit. As part of the agreement, McDowell’s White Sox-themed Mustang and FRM show car will be on display at Guaranteed Rate Field for NASCAR Day, presented by SKIL, on Sunday, June 30 vs. Colorado.

Fans excited to enjoy White Sox NASCAR Day’s fully-charged, race-day atmosphere also are invited for a specialty group sales offer, which includes a limited-edition No. 34 White Sox Michael McDowell t-shirt, exclusively available at the ballpark on June 30. The ticket offer for racing fans and baseball enthusiasts alike is live now at whitesox.com/nascar.

“This partnership with Front Row Motorsports presents another incredible opportunity to amplify the White Sox brand in the heart of Chicago’s racing scene,” said Mike Downey, White Sox Director of Marketing and Promotions. “We were impressed by the exciting atmosphere and overwhelmingly positive fan reaction to last year’s Street Race. Teaming up with FRM, Michael McDowell and the team at SKIL, we’re ready to make this year’s ballpark celebration and race weekend even more unforgettable for fans.”

SKIL, an innovative electric power tool brand founded in Chicago in 1924, will be featured as an associate sponsor aboard McDowell’s No. 34 entry. Celebrating 100 years of innovation including the original worm drive Saw that Built America and current lineup of cordless power tools and outdoor power equipment, SKIL’s presenting sponsorship of White Sox NASCAR Day further highlights the brand’s deep community roots while revving up excitement for the two-day racing event.

“This is an exciting opportunity to have the Chicago White Sox on the No. 34 car and with the team for the NASCAR Chicago Street Race,” said McDowell. “Having family from the Chicago area, baseball always has been a part of my life. This partnership is great for fans of Front Row Motorsports and the White Sox and is a way to celebrate Chicago sports culture together.”

The 39-year-old McDowell joined Front Row Motorsports in 2018. Through seven seasons and more than 200 career Cup starts with the organization, including winning the 2021 DAYTONA 500, the 2023 Verizon 200 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and two appearances in the Cup Series Playoffs, he has been a force in the racing world. This season, McDowell won the pole at Atlanta and Talladega and started on the front row for the Daytona 500. He has had back-to-back, Top-10 finishes in his past two races.

Phillip Phillips To Sing ‘God Bless America’ at Indianapolis 500

INDIANAPOLIS (Thursday, May 16, 2024) – American musician and singer-songwriter Phillip Phillips will perform “God Bless America” during pre-race ceremonies for the 108th Running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge on Sunday, May 26.

“The performance of ‘God Bless America,’ on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, is one of the most important tributes to our country and is an often-heard tradition of the pre-race ceremonies,” IMS President J. Douglas Boles said. “Adding Phillip and his voice to the pre-race festivities will round out his weekend of participating in the ‘The Greatest Spectacle in Racing’ after having been in the 500 Festival parade and performing at The Vogue the night before the race.”

A former “American Idol” winner, Phillips is best known for his melodic radio hit, “Home,” which launched him to fame in 2012 and marked the most successful coronation hit of any “American Idol” winner to date. Shortly after “Home” climbed the charts, Phillips released his first full length album, “The World From The Side Of The Moon,” followed by “Behind The Light” and brought together by his third release, “Collateral.”

When the pandemic hit in 2020, Phillips, like many others, had to take a hard look at his life and career. After welcoming his son, Patch, in 2019, he found a new inspiration for writing music. Four years after his last release, Phillips brought us “Love Like That,” a song dedicated to the unconditional love he has for his wife and child. As he reintroduced himself to the world with his latest single, Phillips hopes to reconnect with his fanbase and get back on tour.

Phillips also will perform as part of the opening production of the 2024 AES 500 Festival Parade on Saturday, May 25 in downtown Indianapolis. Performing on stage to his music will be the Indianapolis Colts cheerleaders and the Indiana Pacemates. Following the parade, Phillips has a show at The Vogue Theatre in Indianapolis presented by the 500 Festival and Forty5 on Saturday, May 25. Doors open at 8 p.m., and ticket information is available at thevogue.com.

“We are so excited to feature Phillip Phillips’ talent and energy at the opening of the AES 500 Festival Parade,” 500 Festival President & CEO Bob Bryant said. “The partnership with The Vogue and Forty5 to enhance the parade production and provide for an encore performance with a full concert later that night is a meaningful addition to the Month of May. We look forward to showing Phillip the full scale of Hoosier Hospitality in May as he rides the parade route along with the 33 starting drivers in the Indy 500.”

Live coverage of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge pre-race starts at 11 a.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.

Visit ims.com to purchase tickets for the 108th Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge on Sunday, May 26 and for more information on the complete Month of May schedule at IMS.

Wright Brand 250 Preview: Eckes, Heim, Caruth Lead NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series Stars In Pursuit Of Victory

NORTH WILKESBORO, N.C. (May 16, 2024) – A strong core of regulars have had some thrilling races so far this season in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series and more side-by-side, door-banging action is expected at the Wright Brand 250 on Saturday at historic North Wilkesboro Speedway.

This is only the fourth NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series race to be held at the .625-mile North Wilkesboro Speedway in NASCAR history, and its most recent winner – Kyle Larson – isn’t entered this year, so the elevated Victory Lane ceremony will go to a fourth different winner to join Larson and the other two past winners from the 1990s, Mark Martin and Mike Bliss.

Several young guns have quickly established themselves as the 2024 front-runners in the series, including two-time season winners Christian Eckes and Corey Heim. Both of those rivals lead the current points standings and are being pursued by several other tough competitors, including recent Las Vegas winner Rajah Caruth and season-opening Daytona winner Nick Sanchez.

Points leader Eckes has shined at the short tracks this season in his No. 19 Chevy, scoring wins at the high-banked Bristol Motor Speedway and the paper-clip shaped Martinsville Speedway. He would love to add the interesting layout at North Wilkesboro to his collection, where the front stretch is downhill and the backstretch is uphill, and like Bristol and Martinsville, has seen so many NASCAR legends race to victory.

“Just the history of this place coming in here and knowing the legends that have raced here, is pretty cool,” Eckes said. “I think it’s going to be a lot of passing compared to last year, but I really like what they’ve done (with the repave) so far.”

Heim, who won the pole and finished sixth here last year in his No. 11 Toyota and is currently second in points with wins at COTA and Kansas, also has a lot of respect for this historic venue, which opened its doors in 1947.

“Just to look around here in the media center and see all the history that they have painted on the walls here, and all the videos that NASCAR came out with the history behind this place, and all the awesome finishes that this place has provided,” said Heim, who also noted the repave changes everything.

“It’s got a lot of grip, it’s certainly a lot different than last year,” Heim said. “It’s going to be tough to see how the race goes.”

Meanwhile, defending and two-time series champion Ben Rhodes is always a threat to win, as are several other veterans in the class, including Grant Enfinger, former champion Matt Crafton, Ty Majeski, Tyler Ankrum and Stewart Friesen. Several rising stars are also making an impact this year, including Daniel Dye, who won the pole at Atlanta, and Taylor Gray, who has posted some strong finishes lately in his TRICON Toyota, including three top-fives and seven top-10s.

Three Cup Series experienced drivers – Ross Chastain, the recently retired Aric Almirola and resurgent Ty Dillon – along with Xfinity standout Sammy Smith, are also entered. Chastain won the most recent event at Darlington Raceway in the Niece Motorsports No. 45 and will certainly be one of the pre-race favorites to win the Wright Bacon 250. Almirola, who will drive another Toyota entry for Hattori Racing Enterprises, has been busy in his retirement as he claimed a victory earlier this year in the Xfinity Series at Martinsville Speedway.

Dillon has returned to full-time status in the Truck Series this year at the controls of the No. 25 Rackley WAR Chevy, and Smith will pilot the No. 7 Chevy fielded by Spire Motorsports that Larson took to Victory Lane one year ago.

Several drivers are planning to make their NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series debuts in the race, including last year’s Window World 125 zMAX CARS Tour winner Brenden “Butterbean” Queen, who is driving the No. 1 Toyota; veteran Pro Late Model racer Clayton Green in the No. 04 Chevy for Roper Racing; and Dawson Sutton, son of Rackley Roofing president Curtis Sutton, who will be driving a second Rackley WAR Chevy, the No. 26 machine.

I want to applaud their efforts with the NC Roofs for Veterans program and hope I can help bring more awareness about what they are doing with a NASCAR marketing campaign.”

A&M Premier awards a local Veteran in need of a full roof replacement through an open nomination process on their website amprco.com. At the end of May 2024, A&M Premier will provide its 3rd free roof to decorated Vietnam Veteran, Johnie Deans of Selma, NC. The company will fully replace Mr. Deans’ roof which has been severely damaged by weather over the years. A&M Premier will cover 100% of the costs for materials and labor in partnership with GAF®, the leader in roofing materials.

A&M Premier, Co-owner, Stephen Mull shares, “Having a high-quality, properly-installed roof is essential to protecting your home. As a Marine Veteran, I’m proud to help fellow Veterans sleep well at night knowing their homes are protected from outside elements. It’s one of the best things we do at A&M Premier, and we hope to gain more nominations for the program throughout the year with Spencer’s help.”

Helping is a core mission at A&M Premier. Their team has been all-in on helping their neighbors in the Rock Hill, SC community after the devasting storm that hit in April. “It’s about people helping people,” said Leonardo Almeida, the other co-owner of A&M Premier. “We see first-hand what damaging hail does to people’s lives. Our job is to relieve some of the stress associated with fixing their home and dealing with insurance companies. We believe in being 100% transparent so people can trust us in getting the job done right.”

You can catch A&M Premier’s truck designed in partnership with Spencer Boyd at the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Friday, May 24, 2024m at 8:30pm and on FS1. The race is a crown jewel weekend for NASCAR and the highlight of the NASCAR Salutes campaign.

The truck features three names of the North Carolina Veterans who’ve received roofs from the NC Roofs for Veterans program so far. A&M Premier’s Chief Marketing Officer, Del Scheitler adds, “It’s been wonderful working with the Spencer Boyd Racing team. When Spencer offered to place the names of our Veterans on the truck, it showed his genuine commitment to honoring those who served our country and helping us get the word out about the program. With his help, we are excited to connect with the large NASCAR Truck Series fan base and gain more deserving nominations.”

The NASCAR Foundation and Gainbridge® Team Up to Announce the Extension of The NASCAR Day Giveathon

Gainbridge® donates $77,000 to extend Giveathon until May 19 with new fundraising goal of $770,000

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (May 16, 2024) – The second annual NASCAR Day Giveathon proved to be another success, so much so that the fundraising efforts have been extended until Sunday, May 19 at 10 p.m. ET, after the North Wilkesboro All-Star Race. This morning in a surprise announcement, Gainbridge®, a Group 1001 company, donated a matching gift of $77,000, resulting in the extension of the Giveathon to reach a new fundraising goal of $770,000 for qualifying charities.

The Giveathon, which ran for 37 hours on May 14 and 15, raised $482,864 from 2,822 donors from all 50 states, impacting nonprofits representing a wide variety of causes and initiatives in our racing communities and across the country.

The new fundraising goal was selected in conjunction with Gainbridge®, an official sponsor of Spire Motorsports’ Nos. 7 and 77 Chevrolets driven by Corey LaJoie and Carson Hocevar, as part of their Drive to $770,000 campaign. The campaign was designed to help the Giveathon reach $770,000 in donations by Sunday evening and support the many participating charities.

“This year’s NASCAR Day Giveathon showcased the power of our sport to help those who need it most,” said Nichole Krieger, Vice President and Executive Director of The NASCAR Foundation. “Sponsors like Gainbridge® have embraced the Giveathon and are going above-and-beyond in innovative ways to take our efforts to the next level. We are so grateful.”

The announcement comes just days before Gainbridge® will run NASCAR Day Giveathon paint schemes at North Wilkesboro Speedway® on the No. 2 Gainbridge® Chevrolet Silverado of Rev Racing driver Nick Sanchez in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series and Hocevar’s No. 77 Gainbridge Chevrolet Camaro during the All-Star Race.

Sanchez’s truck will feature donor names from the first 24 hours of the NASCAR Day Giveathon and Hocevar’s car will feature a listing of the participating Giveathon nonprofit organizations.

Additionally, although he’s not currently locked into the All-Star Race, Carson Hocevar could earn his spot in the field by winning the fan vote or racing his way in through the NASCAR All-Star Open. If he then goes on to win Sunday’s All-Star Race, Gainbridge® announced they will make another donation to the Giveathon’s efforts, this time contributing $770,000.

“Giving back to charity is a central part of our mission at Gainbridge® and that’s why we really wanted to rev this up a notch,” said Group 1001 Chief of Sponsorship and Activation, Mike Nichols. “We’re proud to team up with Spire Motorsports, Rev Racing and The NASCAR Foundation to drive towards $770,000 for the deserving charities. In addition, NASCAR® fans can rally behind Carson on Sunday because if he wins, all the charities win! We’ll make an additional $770,000 donation to the charities if Carson captures his first career NASCAR Cup Series win. Regardless, it feels like all the charities will be in Victory Lane after the race.”

NASCAR® fans can help complete the Drive to $770,000 by donating online at www.NASCARDayGiveathon.org from now until May 19 at 10 p.m. ET. Additional contributions from the Drive to $770,000 match will be shared with all qualified nonprofit organizations participating in the Giveathon.

RAFA Racing On to Misano With McLaren In SRO European Series Powered by RAFA Racing Doubleheader

Brits Jon Lancaster, Jem Hepworth Join Cameron Lawrence and Rafael Martinez for the American-Based Efforts Second Visit to Europe

MISANO, Italy (May 16, 2024) – RAFA Racing returns back to the SRO GT4 European Series Powered by RAFA Racing Club for rounds three and four, where the team’s pair of McLaren Artura GT4s will be co-driven by Jon Lancaster and Rafael Martinez in the Pro-Am class and Jem Hepworth and Cameron Lawrence in Silver.

The RAFA Racing team will race twice this weekend on the 4.064 km (2.525 mi) Misano World Circuit. The first 60-minute race is at 4:35 p.m. local time (9:35 a.m. CDT at the team’s headquarters in Texas) on Saturday, May 18. The Sunday, May 19 race gets the green flag at 12:15 p.m. local time (5:15 a.m. CDT). Both races can be seen live around the world on the Series YouTube page at YouTube.com/GTWorld.

Lancaster, the British professional driver, will team with Martinez in the No. 812 RAFA Racing Club McLaren Arturo GT4. The duo combined for a pair of 12th-place finishes in the season-opener at Circuit Paul Ricard. Since then, the two have gone to work on two continents, both as drivers and with the RAFA Racing technical advisors in Greystone GT. A two-day test at Spa-Francorchamps helped further develop the McLaren Artura GT4, aided even more by two days of coaching and driving at Circuit of the Americas near the RAFA Racing home base in Austin, Texas.

That testing will also benefit the duo of Hepworth and Lawrence, who ended the opening weekend by advancing 16 positions during Sunday’s race to finish in the top 15 overall with the No. 81 RAFA Racing Club Mclaren Artura GT4. Like their teammates, both Hepworth and Cameron are racing at the track for the first time. “Race As Family Always,” the RAFA Racing motto, means that the shared data will push both cars forward beginning with Thursday’s test sessions.

The two RAFA Racing Mclarens will join a field of 49 GT4 cars at the Italian track. The field will be split in during Saturday’s qualifying to ensure all competitors get the best chance to set a clear lap. Silver runners will have their own qualifying session, with Pro-Am and Am entries combined in the other. Both races will feature the full field together, as is standard.

The weekend officially gets underway with a pair of Friday practices that leads into Saturday’s 9:35 a.m. local time qualifying. Qualifying, Saturday’s 4:35 p.m. race, and Sunday’s 12:15 p.m. race will all be streamed at YouTube.com/GTWorld.

RAFA Racing Quote Board

Jon Lancaster, Driver, No. 812 McLaren Arturo: “I’m super excited for this round of the European GT4 Series with RAFA Racing. We’ve been working extra hard between Paul Ricard and now with two really successful test days at Spa and really got down into the car with things we want to do and the direction we want to go. On top of that we had two very successful coaching days with Rafael at his home track of Circuit of the Americas, where we pushed him through some mental barriers that should help when we get to the really high-speed corners at Misano where the car is really going to move around. Rafael will should really now be able to take that in stride and that will bring him a lot closer to the pace. I’m super confident we’re going into this weekend ready for some personal bests all the way through. Who knows, if we fall a little bit lucky we can come out with something shiny to put on the mantlepiece. Misano is a track I tested at some time ago, but it will be a new race experience for me. But I’ve done my homework and can’t wait to get going.”

Rafael Martinez, Driver, No. 812 McLaren Arturo: “I’m looking forward to round two at Misano. With round one under our belts, the team has learned quite a bit about the car. We were making quite a bit of adjustments throughout the weekend last time out and had some serious damage and mechanical issues on one of the cars so with better luck we will have better results. Personally, I have taken a big step forward in my confidence and comfort in the car and cannot wait to see how that translates into the weekend.”

Jem Hepworth, Driver, No. 81 McLaren Arturo: “I’m feeling confident as we head into Misano. We had some unfortunate issues at Paul Ricard which made us miss practice but me and Cameron showed our potential in the races. Misano looks to suit the car a little better than Paul Ricard and we had a successful two-day test there. Let’s see what we can do!”

Cameron Lawrence, Driver, No. 81 McLaren Arturo: “I’m very excited to get back on track with RAFA Racing for this weekend at Misano. We feel a bit more prepared after our first event and experience with the series. We’re hoping that our testing and the knowledge we gained helps move us up the field this weekend and start showing stronger results.”

9th Ryan Hunter-Reay (226.490 mph)

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING (Quotes);

Pato O’Ward, No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet:

“The No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet feels good. I ended the day really happy with the car. Obviously, the rain hasn’t cooperated in a perfect manner these first couple days, but it’s just part of the process sometimes. I’m looking forward to tomorrow when we’ll get more running in; it looks like it’s going to be a beautiful day. With the rain in the forecast for Fast Friday, our focus tomorrow will probably be on getting our qualifying car setup in a good place.”

Callum Ilott, No. 6 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet:

“It was a pretty productive day, and it was nice to get some proper running in, as well. The car feels good; it’s very comfortable. We’ve been working hard and chipping away at it. There are a couple of clear things that we need to look at overnight, and hopefully we can sort that out for tomorrow, but I think overall, it’s not a bad start.”

Alexander Rossi, No. 7 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet:

“I think we got through a lot of what we were trying to do. We were getting close to completing everything. That’s the way it goes. I think the Arrow McLaren cars are in a really good window. I think Chevy has done a good job with some of the developments in the offseason. We feel good.”

Kyle Larson, No. 17 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet:

“There’s plenty of track time, so trying to remember that. I’m glad to have got out there and get running. Still trying to figure a lot out, and kind of work through the car balance some, timing of runs and all that. Maybe the timing of runs will becoming easier when the car balance gets better. Just trying to play around with things and try to be able to make runs and pass people like I see some others are able to pass pretty easily. There’s a lot of guys that just seem stuck, maybe. Just trying to figure that out. Overall, pretty happy with the few hours we’ve got. We’ll go back and talk to the teammates now, and listen in on what they were working through, what they felt, and if it matches up with what I’m feeling as well. Good to get out there.”

Do you feel confident in the feeling you want from the car, or is that something you’re still having to learn?

“I feel like know what I need to feel in traffic to maintain those runs, but then it’s like if you miss that a little bit or get some clean air, and then you’re now like weirdly loose, I feel like there are moments where it’s a little bit unpredictable when I feel the couple of times I’ve had a loose moment. Just talking to them and see what’s normal and all that. Tony (Kanaan) has been a great help throughout this evening in talking to him, but it would be nice to hear what the guys’ thoughts who were also in traffic today.”

Are you looking forward to getting a full day in tomorrow?

“I am. Sounds like there may be some qualifying trim runs, which will be interesting in seeing how that feels differently without the boost turned up. I think Friday doesn’t look good, so getting into that and keep learning.”

Ed Carpenter, No. 20 Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet:

“Today wasn’t a full day, but after an abbreviated open test and short day yesterday, it felt like a full day of running. Today went well and we were quite strong, before the conditions changed towards the end of the day. We are in a decent spot and happy with what we learned today. Looking forward to carrying on the program and hopefully the weather cooperates tomorrow.”

Rinus VeeKay, No. 21 Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet:

“It is nice to finally get some decent running in today. The first day is all about building confidence and getting the car into a window where you can follow close. We did that today and feel good after running a full stint on a set of tires. There is still time to gain and confidence to build, but I am in a happy place to finish our first official day of running. Onto tomorrow!”

Christian Rasmussen, No. 33 Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet:

“Today has been a learning process, but it’s been good. We made great strides and I am feeling more comfortable. We spent most of the day peeling out downforce and it was like we couldn’t do it quickly enough, which is a good sign. I feel good and a lot better having half a day under my belt. I am feeling confident, and I can’t wait to get into tomorrow!”

Agustin Canapino, No. 78 Juncos Hollinger Racing Chevrolet:

“It’s a very hard-working day. We tried a lot of things, but I was in clean air, no tow, so this is our work for today. Trying to get a better car for qualifying, trying to get confidence. We tried many, many different settings, so it was a good day.”

With the track so busy today, was it tough to find a clean lap?

“Every time we were looking for a hole, trying to get distance with cars in front, especially when you have a big pack of cars, it’s difficult and hard to find a no-tow lap. We did a good job, I think. Of course, I am last because I didn’t have a lap with any tow, but we learned a lot today. I think it was a good way to start the Indy 500.”

Josef Newgarden, No. 2 Team Penske Chevrolet:

“It’s great. I love this place. It’s always a privilege to run an Indy car around here. I very much felt that the last couple of years. I’ve just tried to enjoy the opportunity. It’s just cool to be here in an Indy car. To win it, is a whole other thing and I’m so grateful to be able to do that with Team Penske last year. Get win No. 19 for Roger (Penske). Just being here, driving the car, being able to qualify for the race, that’s a huge deal. I enjoy it. I enjoy it a little more after last year now. I love this place. It’s the best racetrack in the world.”

Will Power, No. 3 Team Penske Chevrolet:

“It can be frustrating to sit inside on the first couple days of practice for the Indianapolis 500 because of rain. You’ve been waiting to get back here for almost a year so you want to see what you have. It was good to finally get the Verizon Chevy out for a run. Very happy with the speed so far, but obviously a long way to go.”

SCOTT MCLAUGHLIN, NO. 3 PENNZOIL TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET – Wednesday Practice End of Day Press Conference Transcript:

THE MODERATOR: Wrapping up this Wednesday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway ahead of PPG presents armed forces qualifying this weekend and obviously the 108 running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge, joined by the two quickest of the day, Scott McLaughlin, P1 overall. Scott, driver of the No. 3 Pennzoil Team Penske Chevrolet, set to qualify for his fourth Indianapolis 500 a top speed of 229.493 miles an hour in the 78 laps that you turned today. Kind of a busy day for you guys in the limited time we had this afternoon.

SCOTT McLAUGHLIN: Yeah, it was a pretty busy day. Well, the start of it was pretty slow, and then once we got out there, it was hustle and bustle just getting out there and finding some space, and traffic running was probably what we were working on. Race car feels really good, basically straight out of the truck. Even yesterday when we had those limited running, I felt really good there just from a balance perspective, and just had that confidence today.

But yeah, ran some really good runs in pretty dirty air deep in the pack and was able to pass a few cars, and that’s always a good sign.

Q. So much anticipation to get out there, everyone hates waiting for the track to dry. Once you got out there, what was the feeling like?

SCOTT McLAUGHLIN: It’s awesome. So boring, there’s only so much Netflix you can watch. I was over it. I watched about three movies but then I was ready to go once we got going, and I was happy as. When the car is good straight away, that’s a nice feeling. I feel that anticipation, as well, because it is quite a bit of anticipation just getting ready to go. I think this is two years in a row we’ve lost opening day. It’s a nice feeling.

Q. What were the three movies?

SCOTT McLAUGHLIN: There was one about Wembley. It was Kevin Hart, his roast, and I can’t remember now. Survivor. I actually watched an episode of survivor. Caught up with it.

Q. Some anniversaries this year, 50th anniversary Johnny Rutherford drove that car to victory in the Indy 500, 40th anniversary that Rick Mears drove that car to victory in the Indy 500. Do you look at things like that and say maybe this is my year?

SCOTT McLAUGHLIN: No, at the end of the day Indy chooses you, as we all know. But pretty cool. I actually didn’t know about Johnny’s — 50 years since he won in this car, too. I knew about Rick, obviously. Super cool. We did some really cool stuff with that car this morning, and I think that’s going to be some really cool stuff come race week that Pennzoil are putting out.

I count myself pretty privileged to work with a guy that won 40 years ago, and I’m excited to actually add a bit of history, but at the end of the day there’s so much yet to go, and we all know, and I’ll keep working.

Q. Scott, everybody has got practice plans starting March and April, but of course the rain can always throw those away. How much have y’all been able to get through in the very limited running that we’ve had over the last few hours?

SCOTT McLAUGHLIN: Well, it’s not a huge amount at all, really. You have plans, absolutely, but they change a lot when you’re here, especially at this time of year.

I think we’re in — for me, I look at it, it’s the same for everyone. It’s not like anyone else is going out there and running. We’re all in the same box together. You’ve just got to make the most of the track time that you have, and I felt like we had a really good day today with how much we got through. We were able to sort of put the car away at 6:00 instead of running all the way to 7:00, even though the rain didn’t stop, so that was always our plan anyway.

It’s nice to be in that situation, but at the same time it can change quickly if you let it. You get a little bit complacent or whatever, so it’s important that we stick with it and keep focused, and hopefully we’re there or thereabouts.

Q. How much fun was that out there today?

SCOTT McLAUGHLIN: Always fun. It’s always fun around here.

Q. Scott, I believe if you want to include April’s open test and then the past two days, of like the 26 scheduled hours, there was only about six of green flag time. With that in mind, you had the fourth most completed laps today. Was that kind of the strategy you were looking for, just to complete a lot of laps in a limited time?

SCOTT McLAUGHLIN: Yeah, it was just a plan. We just ran through — obviously running through a lot of race trim stuff, a lot of traffic stuff. A lot of it’s also, for me, I feel like I’m improving year in, year out, and you just never stop learning. Sometimes it take a little bit to get back into the rhythm of things around here and understanding the timing, and that’s how guys like Takuma have won this race is understanding that stuff, and I’m trying to get a handle on that pretty early.

We’ll work on qualifying here tomorrow and whatnot, but at the same time, I think we’re in a lot better shape. For me mentally, just I’m a bit more focused on the right things, not being blase on the little details because it takes every little detail to be good here, and I think we made the most of our time.

Q. Scott, I see you’ve got a Kiwi contingent coming over with the Scott McLaughlin experience. Talk about that and how cool that’s going to be for you.

SCOTT McLAUGHLIN: Yeah, I think it’s just something that we just wanted to — I guess this is an amazing experience for anyone even if you’re in the States already, but anyone internationally to come and experience, and to have that option for people to come in and enjoy it from the inner sanctum with me, it’s exciting. There’s going to be people here for the whole week next week from — I think from Monday onwards, so they’re going to be doing bits and pieces throughout Indy and then seeing Carb Day, parade, concerts, all that sort of stuff.

It’s exciting. It’s cool to be able to bring a little bit of a vibe to the INDYCAR event from the New Zealand contingent and just appreciate the support from everyone, whether they’re here or not.

Q. Your fourth Indy, how are you feeling going into this one?

SCOTT McLAUGHLIN: Yeah, I feel really good. I understand the race a lot more for sure. I think you just build a bit of experience every year, and it’s just invaluable, that experience. Someone like Taku who’s done 15, you want to have that experience, but you just try and soak everything up like a sponge and understand what you want from the car, and I feel like I’ve got a pretty firm understanding of what I want from the car, especially on an oval. It’s just a matter of putting the pieces of the puzzle together, and I think I’m in that frame of mind and that experience level where I can really sort of take it to the next level. Hopefully we can do that this year.

Settled In: In February, Young’s Motorsports announced that Mason Massey will compete full-time in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series this season aboard the team’s flagship, No. 02 Chevrolet Silverado RST, which will continue with Saturday afternoon’s Wright Brand 250 at North Wilkesboro (N.C.) Speedway.

Massey arrived at Young’s Motorsports after running a limited NASCAR Xfinity Series schedule last season for SS-GreenLight Racing, including a top-10 performance at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

The Douglasville, Ga. native started his 2023 Truck Series season with Reaume Brothers Racing and competed in seven races with a season-high 11th place finish at Texas Motor Speedway, but later shifted his presence to Xfinity for five races throughout the 33-race season.

About Mason: Massey has over 20 years of experience behind the wheel, launching his racing career at age five. Since then, he has garnered over 200 feature wins, 11 championships, and 10 track records across multiple series, including the U.S. Legends Pro National Championship.

Amongst the many Late Model victories to Massey’s credit during his tenure in the Bill Elliott Racing Development Program is the 2012 triumph in the Alabama 200. He eventually graduated to NASCAR in 2019, competing in the Truck Series before advancing to the Xfinity Series in 2020.

After part-time Xfinity stints in 2020 and 2021, respectively, the Georgian captured the attention of many with an impressive sixth-place finish in the spring 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series contest at Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway in front of the hometown crowd.

With 41 more NASCAR starts to his resume since his first career NASCAR top-10 effort, Massey has landed with Young’s Motorsports, a longtime fixture in the Truck Series, hoping to impress and land the organization back in Victory Lane this season.

All-Aboard!: For the 10th of 23 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series races this season, Young’s Building Systems and Randco Industries Inc. return to serve as the co-primary marketing partners on the No. 02 Chevrolet Silverado RST for the 250-lap race on Saturday afternoon.

The track was repaved after the series’ visit last year. The additional track time will give teams, crew chiefs, and drivers valuable input not only on handling but also on track conditions.

Faster-than-normal speeds are expected for the 156.25-mile race on May 18.

Darlington (S.C.) Raceway | Buckle Up South Carolina 200 Race Recap: In the ninth race of the 2024 Truck Series season, Young’s Motorsports and Massey searched for another solid finish in The Palmetto State.

In his Truck Series debut at the track dubbed “Too Tough To Tame”, Massey was able to muscle forward from his 29th place qualifying position and utilized another fast No. 02 Young’s Building Systems | Randco Industries Inc. Chevrolet Silverado RST to his advantage.

Playing it safe and trying to avoid the dreaded “Darlington Stripe,” Massey made his move during Stage 3 when he positioned himself accordingly to receive the free pass when the caution waved on Lap 149.

In NASCAR overtime, Massey took advantage of being the beneficiary of the free pass to pass five trucks over the final two laps of the race to finish a strong 15th at the checkered flag.

In 2024, Massey has delivered two top-15, four top-20s, and six top-21 finishes, highlighted by a career-best outing at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, where he steered the team’s flagship truck to an 11th-place finish.

Young’s Motorsports’ NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series at North Wilkesboro (N.C.) Speedway: This weekend will mark Young’s Motorsports’ fourth NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series starts at one of the most legendary tracks on the NASCAR circuit.

The organization posted a team-best 17th-place finish at the track on May 20, 2023, with Kaden Honeycutt at the wheel in the 2023 Tyson 250.

Since 2023, the Mooresville, N.C.-based Young’s Motorsports team has had an average starting position of 26.7 and an average finish of 22.0 in three North Wilkesboro Speedway starts overall.
