NHRA SET TO CELEBRATE HISTORIC 70TH ANNIVERSARY OF U.S. NATIONALS IN 2024 AT LUCAS OIL INDIANAPOLIS RACEWAY PARK

INDIANAPOLIS (April 14, 2024) – NHRA’s most iconic race turns 70 in 2024.

The NHRA U.S. Nationals, the world’s biggest drag race, will celebrate its 70th anniversary this year, as The Big Go will put all the stars of the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series on the sport’s biggest stage from Aug. 28-Sept. 2 at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park.

The highly-anticipated 70th anniversary event will include a host of special events and celebrations to be announced in the coming weeks, with the 70th annual NHRA U.S. Nationals logo released on Friday.

Loaded with special events, a massive event payout and an illustrious history that spans seven decades, the NHRA U.S. Nationals will be an event that can’t be missed in 2024. Commemorating the 70th anniversary in 2024 will make for an even more spectacular weekend, with plenty of extraordinary events in store to close out the regular season in the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series.

The weekend is already loaded with amazing action, starting with qualifying under the lights with all the superstars in Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle. The world’s biggest drag race also includes the final Mission #2Fast2Tasty NHRA Challenge race of the season and the Pep Boys NHRA Funny Car All-Star Callout, as well as the special Dodge Hemi Challenge and racing action in the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Congruity NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by LearnEV+, NHRA Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown™ and NHRA Holley EFI Factory X.

It’s the very best drag racing has to offer and all of it will be celebrated in 2024, including all the amazing history that’s taken place at The Big Go for 70 years.

Antron Brown (Top Fuel), Ron Capps (Funny Car), Matt Hartford (Pro Stock), and Matt Smith (Pro Stock Motorcycle) won the 2023 race, with Brown, Capps and Smith winning at Indy for the second straight year.

Brown now has five Indy wins across his Top Fuel and Pro Stock Motorcycle career, while Hartford picked up his first-ever win at the world’s biggest drag race. The race will again be broadcast on FOX and Fox Sports 1 and include extensive television coverage throughout the event.

The NHRA U.S. Nationals has been synonymous with some of the biggest moments in NHRA history. A win in Indy has helped carve out the legacies of the sport’s biggest legends and the NHRA U.S. Nationals has long been a proving ground in the sport.

From Don Garlits to Tony Schumacher, who has an incredible 10 wins at Indy, to Capps to Don Prudhomme to John Force to Greg Anderson and Erica Enders, NHRA’s biggest names have enjoyed special moments at Indy. Capps’ car last year featured a tribute to Prudhomme and with the legend watching from the starting line, Capps picked up one of the most meaningful wins in his career.

Force’s five Funny Car wins are the most in class history, while Greg Anderson’s seven Pro Stock victories at The Big Go leads the way among active drivers in the category. He’ll try to move a step closer to Bob Glidden’s nine Pro Stock wins at Indy in 2024.

FORT WORTH, Texas (APRIL 14, 2024) – Alsco, a fifth-generation, family owned and operated uniform and linen laundry service, presented Speedway Children’s Charities with a $100,000 check prior to Sunday’s Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 500 NASCAR Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway.

Alsco Chief Financial Officer Andrew Steiner and Vice Present of Sales & Marketing Benjamin Fox presented the check in Victory Lane to Speedway Children’s Charities President Marcus Smith as well as Speedway Children’s Charities National Managing Director Jessica Fickenscher and SCC-Texas Chapter Executive Director Marissa Chaney on behalf of all 11 chapters.

FORT WORTH, Texas (APRIL 14, 2024) – Andy’s Frozen Custard has signed a multi-year extension with Texas Motor Speedway to continue as the entitlement sponsor of the annual NASCAR Xfinity Series race and as the Official Frozen Treat at the renowned motorsports venue in Fort Worth, Texas.

Cooper Webb Wins Foxborough Supercross, Advances into Tie in Championship Points

Haiden Deegan Earns Second Win with Victory Inside Gillette Stadium

Foxborough, Mass., (April 14, 2024) Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Cooper Webb led every lap and took the win at the Foxborough Supercross; with the victory, Webb tied up the championship points at Round 13 of the 17-round 2024 Monster Energy AMA Supercross season. It was Webb’s fourth win of the year, and in one night he erased an eight-point deficit in his pursuit of his third Supercross Championship.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Chase Sexton charged forward and challenged for the lead right up to the Final Lap as the crowd in Gillette Stadium cheered him on. Progressive Insurance ECSTAR Suzuki’s Ken Roczen held second place for the majority of the race, and landed the final spot on the podium when the checkered flag flew. In the Eastern Regional 250SX Class, Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Haiden Deegan earned his second win of the season.

“It’s crazy, you know, the season’s never over, you’ve just gotta put your head down and now it’s tied; it’s pretty crazy. So we’ll just stick to our thing, but man, it was great. Great race, had a great pace out front, and then made a big mistake. I missed the rhythm, and the guys got [up to] me. And then Chase was riding really well, I could feel him coming. [I lost time] just being kind of dumb in the whoops. [On the] last lap I decided to skim, and it was the best I hit them. But it was great, man. To get a holeshot like that, to lead every lap, was huge. The track was really tricky, especially when it started to rain, it could reach up and bite you. So it was a great race and, man, to get [into] the points lead is amazing. I want to give it up to the Good Lord, the whole Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing team, they worked their butts off, my mechanic Alex, [other sponsors], my wife, and man, this feels great.” – Cooper Webb

“I had a few good lines on the track. I was good on the on-off going outside, but it put me on the outside. And then Ken caught on to my line in the sand and was riding smart, so he made it tough on me. I set that pass up for almost a lap, and it was just a tough track overall. I feel like tonight I rode pretty well. I came from fifth or sixth, so [we’re] getting better and better. Obviously wanted that win; I was pretty close, I tried to hit that corner pretty hard after the finish line and slid out [at the start of the final lap]. Other than that, though, we’re making progress and happy to be getting a little closer in points; losing points to Cooper, but we’re kind of inching up a little bit. So we need to click off some wins and end this season on a high.” – Chase Sexton, when asked about having difficultly passing Roczen for second place.

“That was gnarly, but I had a lot of fun. I got off to a really good start… That track was really hardpack and shiny on some areas, and then the whoops got super edgy, and you could just see the ruts were hardpack. It just made for tricky [conditions], especially from the wall [area of the Stadium] through the sand section, and everything, it was really tight. So, it was a track that was hard to stay loose on; there’s a very fine line between pushing and trying to carry momentum. But that was a really good race. I was in second for a long time, and even with a lap to go we all bunched up again. Man, that was a fun race. I’m just really thankful to be back on the podium, that was really important for us. I’m sure the team was wondering sometimes what I was doing out there; especially in practice, I mean it was horrendous, but I’m just happy to be back up on the box.” – Ken Roczen

The Eastern Regional 250SX Class held its sixth round and Haiden Deegan took the victory with three rounds remaining in the regional championship. Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Cameron McAdoo battled forward to second but then steadily lost ground to Deegan. Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Tom Vialle held steady for a third-place finish on a challenging track with inconsistent traction.

“I knew I could do it. It’s inside of me, but man, the highs and lows of this sport, they get to you… I was just days just sitting in my room [after] not winning, I’m like, ‘Dude, this hurts, bro,’ like, it hurt bad. And I was like, ‘I need to win….’ I did a lot of work with our little break and let me tell you, it definitely paid off. I felt super consistent, super smooth, [and] executed my start… That’s just what I needed to do. Unfortunately, we have a big points gap that I need to try and close, but I’m going to do my best. I just gotta thank God for putting me in this position and blessing me with this life. Thank you to my whole team as well, Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing put in a ton of work, my mechanic, my family – man we just, we grind baby.” – Haiden Deegan, when asked if he feels back to 100% after injuries earlier in the season.

“To be back after three weeks off, it was just exciting to be back racing and back with the team. It was my first time in Foxborough, so I really enjoyed myself tonight. Haiden rode a great race, too, and I’m just stoked to put together another great points-building night and just happy with where we’re at… I’m just grateful and we’re going to keep on focusing on the same weekend that we’re on and staying where we’re at. So, shout out to all my people behind me, my family, my mechanic, my whole team; they’re so awesome. I’ve been together with them for a while and we’re just enjoying this so thank you everyone. Foxborough, you guys are awesome.” – Cameron McAdoo

“I had a good start, and they [Deegan and McAdoo] were both riding good, and to be honest I wasn’t really comfortable tonight. The track is really slippery, and I couldn’t really find good lines during the whole Main Event. So of course I’m not really happy with my result, but P-3, I didn’t lose a lot [of points] for the championship and we are still in the fight. I enjoy riding here, another great track, and I’m really looking forward to next weekend.” – Tom Vialle

The SX Futures Class held its fourth round of 2024 and Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Green’s Drew Adams took the win, his third in a row. Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Gavin Towers took second place, and KTM Elite Monster Energy’s Luke Fauser earned third after an exciting defense of the position late in the race from round one winner Troy Lee Designs GASGAS’s Cole Davies, who eventually finished in fifth.

“I’d say [the track] was probably a little bit rougher in qualifying earlier today just because of all the rain we had [earlier in the week]… Two weeks ago in St. Louis I had a really bad start, so I had to work really hard there, and so these past two weeks I’ve just been working on starts. Yeah, it looks like I fixed it.” – Drew Adams, when asked about racing the track straight after the 450 Heats and about his better start compared to the SX Futures race in St. Louis.

The Foxborough event kicked off the final stretch of the 2024 Monster Energy AMA Supercross season. The final four rounds take place over the next four consecutive Saturdays, each in an open-air stadium. The next race, Round 14, will be inside Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee; it will host the season’s first East/West 250SX Class Showdown.

The final races will wrap up what has been one of the closest and most exciting seasons in the sport’s history. Every event also pays points towards the SuperMotocross World Championship, which is in its second year. The SMX series combines points from the 17-round Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship and the 11-round Pro Motocross Championship to seed riders into the sport’s post-season racing with a points-reset to the equivalent of points normally earned at a single event. Increasing point payouts through two Playoffs and one Final will determine an overall SMX World Champion.

Series Newcomer Teddy Musella Wins Race 1 at NOLA Motorsports Park

AVONDALE, La. (April 13, 2024) – Teddy Musella earned his first-career victory in the inaugural Ligier JS F4 Series race this morning at NOLA Motorsports Park. New to the series, Musella (No. 25 Scuderia Buell Ligier JS F4) started the race from the pole position and held off challenges from his competitors to lead every lap en route to the checkered flag.

Notes of Interest:

  • This morning’s race was the inaugural event for the Ligier JS F4 Series, a new stepping stone from karts to racecars in the Parella Motorsports Holdings (PMH) open-wheel ladder system.
  • At just 14 years old, Teddy Musella earned his first-career win.

  • Bacon Zelenka’s third-place finish matches his career-best effort. The 18 year old finished third while racing his first-generation Ligier JS F4 chassis in Formula 4 United States Championship (F4 U.S.) at New Jersey Motorsports Park last July.

Musella faced his biggest challenge from Kekai Hauanio (No. 29 N.E.Where Transportation / New’T Racing Ligier JS F4), who pulled side by side with Musella during a lap-six restart. Unable to complete the pass, Hauanio made contact with another competitor a few laps later, which damaged his wing and sent him down pit road for repairs. With Hauanio removed from contention, other drivers were looking to get in the mix while fighting for a spot on the podium.

Maite Cáceres (No. 6 Abitab/Supermatch Ligier JS F4) started the race in the sixth position, and had quietly worked her way up to fourth by the race’s halfway point. With a solid restart on lap nine, she was able to overtake two additional competitors to move into second. Bacon Zelenka (No. 45 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F4) was also able to capitalize on the misfortune of those in front of him and moved into third with just a few minutes left on the clock. Behind him, Christopher Parrish (No. 83 Save22 Ligier JS F4) had raced from his 10th-place starting position all the way up to fourth, with Pablo Benites Jr. (No. 44 Scuderia Buell Ligier JS F4) and Brad Majman (No. 95 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F4) battling behind him for the fifth position. Majman ultimately finished fifth on the official results, as Benites was issued a five-second time penalty for a false start without an advantage gained.

“It’s been an incredible weekend so far,” said Musella on the podium. “Being the first-ever race for the Ligier JS F4 Series, getting the pole and leading every lap—it was just an incredible experience. I want to thank my team [Scuderia Buell] that’s done so much; my family—my dad, my mom, my sister, and everyone else that’s been watching me and supporting me through my career.”

Kekai Hauanio Wins a Thrilling Race 2 at the NOLA SpeedTour

AVONDALE, La. (April 13, 2024) – With a pass coming to the white flag, Kekai Hauanio (No. 29 N.E.Where Transportation / New’T Racing Ligier JS F4) won a thrilling Race 2 for the Ligier JS F4 Series during the series’ inaugural weekend at NOLA Motorsports Park. Returning to the cockpit of a first-generation Ligier JS F4 racecar for a second season, Hauanio’s victory marks the first of his career, and only his third podium finish in the car.

  • The NOLA SpeedTour marks the first race weekend for the Ligier JS F4 Series, a new stepping stone from karts to racecars in the Parella Motorsports Holdings (PMH) open-wheel ladder system.

Teddy Musella (No. 25 Scuderia Buell Ligier JS F4) led the field down the starting grid, but it was Hauanio who pulled side by side with Musella heading down the frontstretch and overtook the lead as they swept through Turn 1. From there, the 17-year-old focused on opening a gap and pulled a second-and-a-half ahead of the field as the race neared the halfway point. Meanwhile, fourth-place starter Maite Cáceres (No. 6 Abitab/Supermatch Ligier JS F4) was strategically working through the field. The Uruguay native moved up to third on the opening lap, and into second by the completion of the fourth lap. Keeping her focus forward, Cáceres continued chipping away at the lead, narrowing the gap to less than a second with just over three minutes left on the clock. She cut another half-second by the next time they passed the start/finish line and pulled to the outside of Hauanio as she entered Turn 1. Set with the preferred line as they raced through Turn 2, Cáceres completed the pass and pulled away with the lead. Later that same lap, as they raced toward the white flag, Cáceres spun in Turn 15 and Hauanio slipped past to regain the lead. From there, it was clear sailing to the checkered flag for Hauanio.

Musella was fourth with less than two minutes left on the clock, but was able to make his way around Bacon Zelenka (No. 45 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F4) to overtake third and slid past Cáceres as she collected herself and headed to the white flag. As the checkered flag waved, it was Hauanio, followed by Musella and Cáceres rounding out the top three.

“The first race this morning was not to our liking, but we got it done in the second one today,” Hauanio recapped. “[Maite] caught up to me, but we’re going to make some setup changes because it was a little off. We’ll come back tomorrow and hopefully get the win. I have to thank my grandpa for supporting me and Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport for giving me this amazing car.”

Cole Kleck Opens 2024 FR Americas Season with a Win at NOLA Motorsports Park

AVONDALE, La. (April 13, 2024) – Cole Kleck kicked off his 2024 campaign in Formula Regional Americas Championship (FR Americas) competition with a victory at NOLA Motorsports Park. Kleck (No. 11 DD Autosport / International Mechanical Ligier JS F3) made a charge through the field after lining up fifth on the grid to take his first-career victory in the season-opening race.

Notes of Interest:

  • Cole Kleck earned his first-career win and his second-career podium in FR Americas with today’s performance in Race 1 at the NOLA SpeedTour.
  • Patrick Woods-Toth earned his first-career podium in his first-career start after winning the 2023 Formula 4 United States Championship (F4 U.S.) driver championship and earning a scholarship to compete in the 2024 season of FR Americas.
  • Nicolas Ambiado earned his first-career podium in FR Americas competition. The 16-year-old spent last season running his Ligier JS F3 in SVRA while waiting to meet the age requirements of FR Americas.

Patrick Woods-Toth (No. 27 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) started the race from the point position, but Kleck had a great jump off the starting block, pulling to the inside as they entered Turn 1 and quickly moving into the third position. By Turn 2, he was battling side by side with second-place starter Nicolas Ambiado (No. 55 TLink / Allegro Ligier JS F3), and by Turn 4, he overtook the second position. Kleck entered Turn 6 door to door with then-leader Woods-Toth, but by the exit of the corner, he completed the pass. A pair of full-course cautions left Kleck to defend his position during restarts, but with a fast car, he easily cruised to victory. Woods-Toth crossed the line second, with Ambiado following in third. Titus Sherlock (No. 31 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) finished fourth in his career-first FR Americas race, while Ryan Shehan (No. 66 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3), a two-time winner at NOLA Motorsports Park, crossed the line in fifth.

“We got a little unlucky with the red flag in qualifying and trying to get clean laps in, but my dad and I do practice starts whenever we have time. So, we shot off the line well, came out third in Turn 1, and then battled for second exiting the turn. We got Patrick [Woods-Toth] in Turn 6 [to take the lead]. I want to say great job to Patrick, too. It was amazing racing with all of us drivers. I want to thank God, my family, Darren with DD Autosport, and everyone back at home. I’m just so blessed to be here with all these drivers.”

FR Americas kicks off the action at NOLA Motorsports Park tomorrow with Race 2 at 8 a.m. CT. Race 3 will follow later in the day, with lights out scheduled for 2 p.m. CT. AJ ALLMENDINGER
No. 16 Celsius Chevrolet Camaro

  • AJ Allmendinger qualified eighth for the Andy’s Frozen Custard 300 at Texas Motor Speedway.
  • Allmendinger took seventh place on the first lap and continued to run there until lap eight when he reported he had no grip. The first caution came on lap 13, and Allmendinger stayed out and went on to finish the opening stage in ninth. The team came to pit road for adjustments under the stage break. With the wind blowing the overhead sign, Allmendinger was unable to see his pit sign and missed the pit stall the first time by. The No. 16 came back to pit road for four tires, fuel and adjustments. Allmendinger restarted the second stage in 26th place.
  • In the second stage, Allmendinger drove back up to eighth place before the caution came out on lap 81. The team came to pit road for four tires, fuel and adjustments. Allmendinger restarted 15th on lap 85 and drove up to ninth place before the stage end.
  • Allmendinger restarted the final stage in 10th place and drove up with eighth place the first lap back to green. The caution came out on lap 103 and the No. 16 stayed out to restart in eighth on lap 107. On the restart, Allmendinger took seventh place and by lap 108, Allmendinger was scored in fifth place. From fourth place on lap 132, Allmendinger reported his No. 16 Celsius Chevy was building tight. The team came to pit road under green on lap 143 from fourth place. When green flag pit stops cycled through on lap 171, Allmendinger was scored sixth. The caution came out on lap 174, and Allmendinger came to pit road for tires, fuel and adjustments. On lap 180, Allmendinger restarted in eighth place and drove up with fifth on the restart. Allmendinger went on to finish fourth in the Andy’s Frozen Custard 300, qualifying for the Dash 4 Cash at Talladega Super Speedway.

“I’m proud of everyone at Kaulig Racing. We struggled in the first stage, but we got our Celsius Chevy pretty good there. I missed the pit box, never saw the sign, so that’s what got us behind. We fought back hard and I felt like we had a fourth-to-sixth-place car all day. It wouldn’t fire off great, but after about eight to ten laps in a run, then I could get in a rhythm. Definitely not where we need to be still, but we are making gains and that is all we can ask for.” – AJ Allmendinger

JOSH WILLIAMS
No. 11 Alloy Employer Services Chevrolet Camaro

  • Josh Williams qualified 22nd for the Andy’s Frozen Custard 300 at Texas Motor Speedway.
  • Williams moved into 21st on lap 13 when the first caution of the race came out. The green flag waved again on lap 17, and after breaking into the top 20 on the restart, Williams took 19th on lap 30, finishing there in stage one.
  • The No. 11 Alloy Employer Services car came down pit road during the stage yellow for tires, fuel and an air pressure adjustment. Williams took the second-stage green flag from 16th. He picked up speed as the run progressed, fighting to enter the top 15. No. 11 Chevy Camaro got aero tight when Williams attempted to pass the No. 15 with 22 to go in stage two, and the car slid back to 17th as a result. On lap 81, the yellow flag flew, and Williams came down pit road for tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment, gaining three spots. The restart set up a six-lap shootout to end the second stage, and Williams finished it in 14th.
  • Williams started the final stage running 13th but slipped two positions with 98 to go. The caution came out again that lap, and he restarted 15th with 94 laps remaining. Williams stalled out trying to make a move past the No. 28, and after both cars were passed in traffic, Williams took the spot away on lap 135 to run in 16th. With 55 laps remaining, the No. 11 Camaro pitted for tires and fuel under green flag conditions, cycling into 13th. The yellow flag waved on lap 174, and Williams brought the Alloy Employer Services car onto pit road for the team’s final set of fresh tires and fuel. Williams restarted in 13th with 21 laps to go but lost three positions in four laps. Another caution came out, and Williams restarted from 16th with 11 laps remaining. He took the checkered flag in 12th place.

No. 97 Worldwide Express Chevrolet Camaro

  • Shane van Gisbergen qualified the WWEX Chevrolet 33rd for the Andy’s Frozen Custard 300 at Texas Motor Speedway.
  • By lap five, Van Gisbergen worked his way up to 27th and was scored in 26th when the first caution flag waved on lap 13. Staying out, the WWEX team restarted 27th on lap 17. Learning his way around the 1.5-mile oval, Van Gisbergen ended stage one in 25th on lap 45. Under the stage one caution, Van Gisbergen hit pit road for four tires, fuel and adjustments. Following the stop, the WWEX team was scored in 24th.
  • Van Gisbergen started the second stage in 24th on lap 53. Battling a tight WWEX Chevrolet during the run, Van Gisbergen worked his way up to 23rd by lap 75 and maintained his position when the third caution flag of the afternoon waved on lap 81. Under the caution, Van Gisbergen hit pit road for four tires, fuel and adjustments. Following the stop, the WWEX team rejoined the field in 20th. After the lap-85 restart, Van Gisbergen ended stage two in 17th on lap 90.
  • Following a four-tire stop under the stage two caution, Van Gisbergen restarted the final stage in 24th on lap 104. A quick caution came out on lap 103 with Van Gisbergen scored in 22nd. Not pitting under caution, Van Gisbergen restarted 20th on lap 107. Staying out longer than most of the field, Van Gisbergen made a green-flag pit stop from second on lap 165 for four tires, fuel and adjustments. Following the stop, Van Gisbergen rejoined the field in 24th on lap 166. The caution flag waved once again on lap 174 with the WWEX team scored in 22nd. Staying out, SVG restarted in 23rd after taking the wave around on lap 180. SVG and the WWEX team crossed the finish line 18th.

DANIEL DYE
No. 10 bproauto Chevrolet Camaro

  • Daniel Dye qualified 24th for the Andy’s Frozen Custard 300 at Texas Motor Speedway.
  • Settling in during stage one, the No. 10 bproauto Chevrolet became aero free and spun out, causing the first caution of the day. Making every effort to recover, Dye drove back to 22nd by the end of the stage. Relaying a loose-handling condition, Dye pitted for four tires and chassis adjustments.
  • The caution flag waved with nine laps to go in stage two. Battling a loose No. 10 Chevy, Dye pitted for four tires, and an air pressure and wedge adjustment. The decision was made to bring Dye back down pit road for a second time for a track bar adjustment of the left rear. Dye completed the stage being cautious in an attempt to save on tire wear. He did not pit and started stage three in the 17th position.
  • During the caution on lap 102, running 18th, Dye radioed, “I’m not confident to put steering wheel into it.” Resuming the race on lap 107, scored 18th, he continued to battle his No. 10 Chevy, relaying he was too tight and needed the front to turn better. Dye ultimately took the checkered, solidifying a 24th-place finish in the Andy’s Frozen Custard 300 at Texas Motor Speedway.

E-bikes reduce air pollution, but can also reduce other types of pollution. For example, even the highest-powered e-bike will be much quieter than a car and the overall noise pollution in an area is reduced.

Kyle Larson collects third consecutive Cup Series pole at Texas

Kyle Larson topped qualifying Saturday afternoon at Texas Motor Speedway in the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet to earn the Busch Light Pole Award for Sunday’s AutoTrader EchoPark Automotive 400.

His lap of 190.369 mph in the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet marked his 19th Cup Series career pole, his third consecutive pole this season and the 250th for the Hendrick organization.

“Yeah, it was a pretty intense qualifying session,” Larson said. “I felt like the track was really slick in practice, and then having to kind of talk to yourself before you make your lap, knowing that you have to commit even more than you did in practice to go fast is difficult.

“And then just the lap itself – the first round and second round both, there were moments where you have grip, and then moments where you’re like man, I’m going to crash. It’s pretty intense from behind the wheel, but always great when you can accomplish a pole and feel like you beat your confidence a little bit.”

Joe Gibbs Racing’s Ty Gibbs will start on the front row beside Larson after a qualifying lap of 190.134 mph lap in his No. 54 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota. His teammate, Christopher Bell, will start third as 23XI Racing’s Tyler Reddick and Stewart-Haas Racing’s Chase Briscoe, round out the top five.

William Byron, the defending race winner, will start sixth, followed by Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney and Austin Cindric as JGR’s Martin Truex Jr. and 23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace, round out the top 10.

Kyle Busch and Jimmie Johnson both had issues during the practice session that preceded qualifying. Johnson’s No. 84 Legacy Motor Club entry made contact with the wall in Turn 2. The team plans to make repairs rather than go to a backup car for Sunday’s race. Kyle Busch spun exiting the same turn in his No. 8 Richard Childress Chevrolet. Neither driver made a qualifying run and will have to start near the back of the field. Kyle Busch will start in 34th and Johnson will start in 37th.

The AutoTrader EchoPark Automotive 400 will be broadcast Sunday at 3:30 p.m. on FS1 with radio coverage provided by PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
