OPEN WHEEL SHOWDOWN UNVEILS NEW DATE AND VENUE FOR 2024, HEADING FOR IRWINDALE SPEEDWAY

IRWINDALE, CALIFORNIA (January 15, 2024) – Davey Hamilton Jr. has officially shared updates on the second annual Davey Hamilton Jr’s Open Wheel Showdown, revealing an exciting new location and date for 2024. Scheduled from November 22-24, 2024, at Irwindale Speedway in Irwindale, California, this year’s Open Wheel Showdown promises to deliver thrilling action on the half-mile progressively banked oval.

The weekend’s lineup will consist of Super Modifieds, National Midgets, and, of course, the Winged Pavement Sprint Cars. Once again, the winner of the National Midget main event will receive $10,000 and the Sprint Car winner will take home $50,000. Hamilton also announced his team is working hard to ensure all teams who do not advance to the A-main will still receive prize money, with the complete purse breakdown set to be unveiled soon.

The shift in date to a Friday through Sunday format strategically positions the event between the USAC National Midget Series West Coast Swing and the renowned annual Turkey Night Grand Prix, offering fans a week filled with diverse open-wheel racing.

Irwindale Speedway, renowned for hosting numerous USAC National and Western States Midget Series events, will witness the return of National Midgets to its racy ½ mile progressive-banked oval, a sight unseen since the 2011 Turkey Night Grand Prix.

Midgets have left an indelible mark on the speedway’s 25-year history, with the late Dave Steele clinching the victory in the inaugural event in March 1999, marking the opening of Irwindale Speedway with a USAC Western States Midget triumph. The upcoming Open Wheel Showdown also marks the revival of winged sprint cars at Irwindale Speedway, absent since 2019 when Bobby Santos III secured a King of the Wing event on November 10.

The commencement of the entry process for the 2024 Open Wheel Showdown is scheduled for February 1. Teams are encouraged to promptly submit their entries as sprint car entries are limited to 65, owing to pit constraints. Sales for RV spots will also begin on February 1, while ticket sales will be made available closer to the event.

Expressing his excitement about the venue change, Davey Hamilton Jr. stated, “I am thrilled to bring the Open Wheel Showdown to Irwindale Speedway, ensuring great racing and an exceptional fan experience. After an incredible debut last year, we are upping the ante with an expanded purse in 2024. A heartfelt thank you to Tim and everyone at Irwindale Speedway for making this possible.”

For further details on the second annual Davey Hamilton Jr’s Open Wheel Showdown or to submit an official entry for this year’s event, visit www.openwheelshowdown.com. Entry opens on February 1st

Cadillac Racing ready to roar in Daytona opener

Reigning GTP champion looks strong for second season of IMSA competition

DETROIT (Jan. 15, 2024) – All roads (primarily Interstate 95) lead to Daytona Beach, Florida, and the 62nd Rolex 24 At Daytona, where Cadillac Racing will seek to jump-start the bid to successfully defend its Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) championships.

The prelude to the Jan. 27-28 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season-opening event is this weekend’s Roar Before The Rolex 24, which includes a 15-minute GTP qualifying session Jan. 21 to set the field for the twice-around-the-clock test on the 3.56-mile, 12-turn Daytona International Speedway course.

Ten hybrid GTP racecars are entered, including the No. 01 Cadillac V-Series.R driven by Sebastien Bourdais, Renger van der Zande, Scott Dixon and Alex Palou, and the No. 31 Whelen Cadillac V-Series.R driven by Pipo Derani, Jack Aitken and Tom Blomqvist.

Shortly after Cadillac swept the titles in mid-October at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, teams began preparations in earnest for the second season of IMSA GTP competition. That included an early December IMSA-sanctioned test at the racetrack where Cadillac Racing won the Rolex 24 At Daytona four years in a row in the DPi era.

“I hit the reset button the Monday after the IMSA banquet in October,” said Chris Mitchum, director of race team operations for Action Express Racing that runs the No. 31 Whelen Cadillac V-Series.R. “You always want to improve and it’s not only with the car.”

Knowledge, data acquisition, contingency preparation, communication and a host of other crucial elements were gleaned from the first season of competition, which early on had been an extension of testing the new racecar.

“There has been a huge advantage from where we were 12 months ago to where we are now,” Mitchum said. “In racing years – if you can compare it to dog years – I think we’ve achieved at least three years’ worth of work in one year’s worth of time across the Cadillac program. We’re equally prepared to go to Daytona now as we were in every other championship year we’ve had.”

Cadillac has won the overall Rolex 24 title four times since the inception of the DPi era. Van der Zande is a two-time winner (2019, 2020) with Cadillac Racing, while third-year teammate Bourdais is also a double winner (2014, 2017). Blomqvist, endurance driver for the championship-winning No. 31 Whelen Cadillac V-Series.R, has won the Rolex 24 the past two years. He drove to the pole in 2023.

“The 01 Cadillac team is anxious to kick of the 2024 IMSA Weathertech season. We are ready to build on our Rolex 24 At Daytona success with the Cadillac V-Series.R after finishing third and fourth there in its debut race in 2023,” said Mike O’Gara, director of operation and race strategist for the No. 01 Cadillac V-Series.R run by Chip Ganassi Racing.

“It has been a few years since Chip Ganassi Racing has won overall at Daytona, but we feel confident that we can compete for another win and add to our eight victories there. We have been working hard in the offseason at the racetrack testing, as well in the race shop, to be ready. It’s exciting to be returning with our IMSA veteran drivers Renger van der Zande and Sebastien Bourdais, and it is great to have Scott Dixon back again and then with a pleasant surprise in being able to add Alex Palou to lineup this year, as well. Having the opportunity to work with drivers, engineers and a crew of this caliber is an honor.”

Qualifying Jan. 21 will be streamed on Peacock and IMSA.com beginning at 1:55 p.m. ET.

Cancer Survivor Jerry White Takes Delivery of Cooper Abbott’s Race Bike

Cancer Survivor Jerry White Taking Delivery of Cooper Abbott’s Race Bike

Indianapolis, IN – A heartfelt collaboration unfolded as Cooper Abbott, in partnership with The Fox Auto Team, Sherco USA, and the Steve and Nancy Fox Cancer Center, joined forces to present a touching gift. Cooper generously donated his 2023 Sherco SEF 300 EnduroCross race bike to an individual or family whose passion for riding had been put on hold due to a cancer diagnosis.

After meticulously reviewing numerous submissions, one narrative stood out among the rest — Jerry White’s story resonated deeply with everyone involved. In a touching moment, Cooper Abbott personally delivered the news to Jerry, informing him that his story had been chosen for this meaningful gift.

“I saw an Arizona number pop up on my phone and wondered who this could be,” commented Jerry White. “To my surprise, it was Cooper Abbott himself telling me I had been selected to get his EnduroCross race bike. I was utterly in shock when I heard that news and I got a bit emotional. I have been through so much as it relates to cancer with my mom and myself personally. It really threw a curveball in my life. I want to thank Mr. and Mrs. Fox, Sherco USA and Cooper and his family who know exactly what I had to endure for this moment. I am looking forward to racing some cross country with my son in the next few weeks. This Sherco is simply amazing,” concluded Mr. White.

Below is Jerry’s submission letter.

“Hello

My name is Jerry White. I’m a father of 3. My son and I both race xc. My plan was to have my son start racing earlier then 2023 but life throws us curve balls sometimes. Back in 2011 I got a phone call on April 1st just as I was walking into work and it was my younger brother. He was down and out and later that evening I get a text from him and so I called my mother to have her check on him. It was 2 late. He had committed suicide already with my mom and stepdad with all 3 of my children upstairs.

Fast forward a few years to feb 2014 and my mother calls me and tells me she is sick. She went in for her first chemo treatment that week and passed away the following week.

Fast forward to June of 2014 and I get a call saying to go straight to the doctor. They ran a bunch of tests and kept me overnight. Everything kept coming up negative. So they pulled bone marrow the following day. A couple weeks later they told me had CML leukemia. The first medication was rough and I had missed close to 6 months of work. I had to sell our bikes and my son was only 5 and didn’t quite understand why I had to sell his new bike that he didn’t even get to ride yet. It’s been a roller coaster with insurance but I finally started doing better and was back on my feet in 2020 so we got some pit bikes and started easing back into it. This year was my sons first full year of racing xc on a supermini and he ended up 4th in class at the end of the season. All I know is you just gotta keep moving no matter what because tomorrow is promised to you and when your down you got nowhere to go but up. So I just try to stay positive and keep pushing forward.

The Ultimate Guide to Sourcing Genuine Mercedes Parts

Photo by Ambitious Studio* - Rick Barrett on Unsplash

When it comes to maintaining the prestige and performance of a Mercedes-Benz, using genuine parts is non-negotiable. These finely-tuned machines, known for their luxury and durability, deserve nothing less than components that meet the highest standards of quality and compatibility. This guide provides an indispensable resource for Mercedes owners and enthusiasts, ensuring that the parts you choose not only preserve the integrity of your vehicle but also contribute to its optimum performance. Whether you’re a seasoned mechanic or a new Mercedes owner, understanding how to source the right parts is key to your vehicle’s longevity and your driving satisfaction.

Understanding the Importance of Genuine Mercedes Parts

Genuine Mercedes parts are not just a recommendation; they’re a necessity for maintaining the high standards set by the manufacturer. These parts are specifically designed and tested to meet the exact specifications of your Mercedes model. Unlike aftermarket parts, which might offer a one-size-fits-all solution, genuine parts are crafted to integrate seamlessly with the unique systems of your Mercedes.

The use of genuine parts ensures that your vehicle maintains its manufacturer-set safety, efficiency, and performance standards. In terms of safety, non-genuine parts may not have undergone the rigorous testing that Mercedes demands, potentially compromising the vehicle’s reliability in critical situations. Efficiency-wise, genuine parts are tailored to optimize fuel consumption and reduce emissions, aligning with the brand’s commitment to eco-friendly performance.

Furthermore, the performance of your Mercedes is intimately tied to the quality of its components. Genuine parts maintain the smooth, responsive driving experience that Mercedes-Benz is known for. They also contribute to preserving the vehicle’s resale value, as a car with authentic parts is often more attractive to potential buyers.

Navigating the Market: Where to Find Authentic Mercedes Parts

Finding authentic Mercedes parts can seem daunting, but knowing where to look simplifies the process. The most reliable source is always a licensed Mercedes-Benz dealership. Dealerships maintain a comprehensive inventory of genuine parts, specifically designed for various Mercedes models. They also offer the expertise of knowledgeable staff who can assist in selecting the right part for your vehicle.

For those who prefer online shopping, Mercedes-Benz’s official website is a treasure trove. It provides a user-friendly platform where you can search for parts based on your vehicle’s model and year. Additionally, several reputable online retailers specialize in genuine Mercedes parts. However, caution is advised when purchasing from third-party websites; always verify the authenticity of the parts and the credibility of the seller.

Another option is to explore Mercedes-Benz clubs and forums. These communities are rich in knowledge and often have members selling or trading genuine parts. Plus, they offer the added benefit of advice and experiences shared by fellow Mercedes enthusiasts.

Deciphering Part Authenticity: Tips to Avoid Counterfeits

In a market flooded with counterfeit parts, ensuring the authenticity of your Mercedes parts is crucial. Counterfeit parts not only compromise the performance and safety of your vehicle but can also lead to costly repairs down the line. Here are some tips to help you avoid falling prey to counterfeit Mercedes parts.

Genuine Mercedes parts come in high-quality, branded packaging with a unique part number. Always compare the part number with the one listed in your vehicle’s manual or the manufacturer’s website. Authentic Mercedes parts exhibit superior craftsmanship. Be wary of parts that have uneven finishes, misspelled branding, or feel lighter than expected. Reputable sellers should provide proof of authenticity, such as certificates or purchase receipts from Mercedes-Benz. If the deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. Extremely low prices can be a red flag for counterfeit parts. When in doubt, consult with a Mercedes-Benz dealer or a trusted automotive expert. They can help verify the authenticity of the parts.

Long-Term Care and Maintenance: Getting Genuine Mercedes Parts

Investing in genuine Mercedes parts is just the first step; realizing the importance of automotive maintenance and repairs ensures they perform optimally over their lifetime. Regular maintenance is key to preserving the integrity and functionality of these high-quality components. Here are some essential tips for the long-term care of your genuine Mercedes parts.

Adhere to the maintenance schedule recommended by Mercedes-Benz. Regular check-ups can prevent minor issues from turning into significant problems. When cleaning or maintaining your Mercedes, always use products recommended by the manufacturer. This includes everything from engine oil to cleaning agents. For complex parts or systems, it’s advisable to have them serviced by certified Mercedes-Benz technicians. They have the expertise and tools to handle these parts with care. Stay attentive to changes in your vehicle’s performance. Early detection of issues can prevent damage to genuine parts.

Conner McMullen Wins 2024 Parker 400 Unlimited Race

After a dramatic final-lap shake-up, Conner McMullen declared the return of Class 1 in a big way in the Parker 400 Unlimited Race, the opening round of the 2024 UNLTD Off-Road Racing Series season. McMullen worked his way up from seventh place in qualifying to hang tough with top qualifier Justin Lofton and his 4WD Unlimited Truck all day, and capitalized on an unlucky break for Lofton just miles from the finish line to score a statement overall victory for UNLTD’s premier open-wheel class.

Lofton, Cole Potts, and McMullen were the clear-cut front-runners early in the day, with the two 4WD Unlimited Truck racers surprisingly nipped on corrected time by McMullen’s Class 1 car at the conclusion of the first lap. That battle would last through the second lap, until Potts made an extended stay in the pits with driveshaft issues that took him out of the battle for the overall.

From there, it was up to Lofton to keep it together. He had a three-minute advantage on McMullen going into the final lap, and both were well clear of Adam Householder, who himself had plenty of cushion on anyone nearby. Then, with less than 15 miles to get to the finish line, heartbreak: Lofton’s truck came to a halt as McMullen continued to move, making the pass for the lead just before 4PM local time.

The Unlimited Truck SPEC battle was every bit as intense as the fight for the overall win, with Jergensen and Davis on top of each other for much of the race, but it had last-lap attrition of its own to cut it short. Jergensen was scored the leader on corrected time after the first lap, but Davis was 12 seconds faster after the second. They’d stay closely matched until Jergensen stopped just short of halfway on the final lap; he’d face an extended delay that would drop him to 10th in class.

Davis would carry on to take not only the class victory, but also a new Chevrolet 525RLB race engine from Auto-Nation Chevrolet. He would also earn second place overall, as he had almost 12 minutes on Householder on corrected time. Class 1 runner-up Mario Fuentes Zaragoza and fellow Unlimited Truck SPEC podium finishers Brent Fox and Jack Olliges were the remaining drivers to complete three laps of the 142-mile course in under seven hours.

Unlimited Race results from the 2024 Parker 400 were as follows:

  1. #140 Conner McMullen, 6:36:02.603

Chase Sexton Wins Mudder at San Francisco Supercross

Jordon Smith Tops 250SX Class in the Rain

San Francisco, Calif., (January 14, 2024) At Round 2 of the 17-round series, Red Bull KTM’s Chase Sexton put in a near flawless ride under some of the most brutal race conditions ever seen at a Monster Energy AMA Supercross race. The win moves Sexton into the points lead.

Heavy rains abbreviated daytime qualifying, shortened Main Events, and instigated track changes. Still, many riders left Oracle Park with a DNF rather than championship points. Photo Credit: Feld Motor Sports, Inc.

Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Eli Tomac navigated the deteriorating track to earn second place inside Oracle Park; he jumped from ninth to being tied for third place in the point standings. Progressive Insurance ECSTAR Suzuki’s Ken Roczen recovered from an early mistake to pass his way up to third place. The event kicks off the season-long Love Moto Stop Cancer text-to-donate campaign as well as Ken Roczen’s Kickstart for a Cause bike sweepstakes, both to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. In the Western Regional 250SX Class, Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Jordon Smith followed up last week’s second-place finish to earn the top spot at round two.

“Leading the race in a mud situation, it’s obviously where you want to be because you’re not getting roosted, but it also seems like it lasts forever. The first couple laps when I was by myself and I wasn’t dealing with lapped traffic it felt, not easy, but I had a good flow and was able to hit my lines. Then once we got into lapped traffic, that’s when the race kinda starts and being able to pick around those guys is key… It’s tough not to make a mistake out there but I was fairly consistent every lap and was pretty happy with how consistent I was.” – Chase Sexton.

“It was tough. It was like, it started out really thick, and then it stayed thick enough even with all that water. A lot of times when it’s just pure rain the whole time it’s not too bad because the ruts don’t get super deep and you’re kinda just spraying it around. But this one… I went in [an inside rut] one time and got stuck for like a second or two. It was one of those tracks where it was just heavy dirt, super deep ruts. And then there was another time in the second rhythm section I almost looped out because I grabbed a handful of throttle and hung off the back. But this was one of the tougher ones.” – Eli Tomac, describing the conditions as some of the toughest he’s faced in supercross.

“My mindset was [focused on] getting going. As soon as I got going I’m like, ‘Okay, this is 15 minutes, this is enough time, with people struggling going left and right… we can still make something happen.’ So I really just put my head down and charged forward. I was kinda blown away and really happy at the same time that I caught up to the field quick and was able to just pick people off left and right… I just wanted to go and go and kinda try to have fun with it.” – Ken Roczen, describing his race after a mistake after the first turn set him well back in the field.

The Western Regional 250SX Class held its second round and Jordon Smith took over the red plate and a five point lead in the 10-round championship. Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Levi Kitchen landed on the podium again, this time moving up one spot to earn second place. Muc-Off FXR ClubMX Yamaha’s Garrett Marchbanks had to work hard for his third place finish after rounding the first lap in seventh place.

“I’ve been pretty bad in mud races in my pro career, especially lately. At the mudder in New Jersey last year I did terrible, I think I got 18th. At High Point [motocross] in the mud I did not do good there, either. And we got here today and Bobby [Regan, the team owner] was like, “Jordon, I’ve seen you ride in the mud, you just need to try to survive today and get as many points as you can’. And I was like, ‘All right Bobby, I’m going to try to prove you wrong, but you’re kinda right.’ I do feel like I’ve gotten better in the mud… I think riding outdoors last year helped me.” – Jordon Smith

“The bike felt pretty good. That was the first time it’s ever really seen any rain at all or water. I did really well. After practice I just basically stiffened my fork as much as it would go, dropped it in the clamps, just kinda made the front end light so I could kinda ride around that way and yeah, it felt really good.” – Levi Kitchen, who switched to a new team and bike for 2024.

“I honestly didn’t know what position I was in the whole race. The first lap I fell over and was basically dead last. I was just covered and mud and didn’t know what was going on so I just basically pushed the whole way through and saw Phil [Nicoletti, a teammate] and didn’t know what position we were in, so I was like, ‘Maybe I’ll just try to get another guy and keep myself in the points hunt for a title…’ I was pretty happy for the third and yeah, it was exciting.” – Garrett Marchbanks

Can You Tow a Car from Private Property in Brisbane

Towing a vehicle from private property in Brisbane is not as simple as calling a tow truck. There’s understanding required of the legal framework, authorisation, towing procedures, potential legal consequences, and proposing alternative solutions for illegally parked vehicles .

Understanding Towing Regulations in Queensland

In Queensland, towing on private property is governed by the state government. Since April 2018, TMR established guidelines  governing towing from private car parks and roads.

These regulations are to ensure that towing adhere to procedure and ethical practices. If you’re seeking removal of an unauthorised vehicle, these regulations are essential.

Key Factors for Towing

Before towing, explicit permission must happen from the property owner or authorised person. This step is not a formality; it’s a legal prerequisite. Without proper authorisation, engaging in towing can have severe consequences.

Property owners and Brisbane towing providers should ensure that towing is done through due diligence. This collaboration includes communicated permission, often facilitated through appropriate signage. Neglecting this step can result in fines and potential legal actions.

Towing Process and Best Practices

Towing involves a series of steps that must be undertaken with precision and care. A step-by-step guide ensures that the process is compliant with Queensland regulations.

The towing process should begin with a thorough understanding of safety measures and proper procedures. Towing a vehicle, especially from private property, necessitates a delicate touch to avoid damage to the towed vehicle and surrounding property. This aligns with the broader aim of towing regulations, aimed to authorise but also ensure that the process is followed.

Compliance with Queensland regulations, particularly those outlined by TMR, is paramount throughout the entire towing process. This includes securing proper authorisation, adhering to safety measures, and following a standardised procedure.

The towing process involves several steps:

  1. First, secure explicit permission from the property owner or authorised personnel. This step is crucial and should be facilitated through clear signage, ensuring that everyone involved is on the same page.
  2. Second, adhere to safety measures and follow a standardised procedure. Towing necessitates a delicate approach to prevent damage to the towed vehicle and surrounding property. This aligns with the broader aim of towing regulations, emphasising responsible and safe practices.
  3. Third and lastly, throughout the process, compliance with Queensland regulations is essential. This includes securing proper authorisation, following safety measures, and adhering to a standardised procedure.

By simplifying the towing process, individuals and towing service providers can contribute to a towing landscape that is both legal and responsible.

Where Vehicles Can Park in Brisbane

Understanding parking regulations in Brisbane ensures smooth flow of traffic. Here’s a quick guide on where cars can and can’t park in unregulated parking areas within Brisbane.

Permissible Areas:

  • Designated parking spots (within the line markings)
  • In accordance with official signage
  • On the left-hand side of the road, as close to the curb as safely possible

Legal Requirements for Parking on Suburban Roads:

Leave 3 meters of clear roadway between your vehicle and other vehicles, dividing strips, traffic islands, and unbroken lane markings.

This ensures accessibility for large vehicles, such as garbage trucks, to pass between parked cars without causing damage.

Drivers cannot park their cars:

  • On private property without the owner’s permission
  • In a position that blocks or partially obstructs a driveway
  • On footpaths, bicycle paths, shared paths, nature strips, or traffic islands

Addressing Illegally Parked Cars:

  • If a car is blocking your driveway, roadway, footpath, or nature strip, you have options.
  • Report the issue to the police, providing details of the violation.
  • Report illegally or dangerously parked cars to the Brisbane City Council for appropriate action.
  • Submit a report to the Queensland Police regarding suspicious or potentially abandoned vehicles.

Legal Implications and Penalties for Unauthorised Towing

Engaging in unauthorised towing activities can have significant legal implications. The Queensland government has instituted measures to regulate towing after accidents, aiming to prevent exploitation by towing services and ensuring fair practices.

Unauthorised towing can result in financial penalties and legal actions against the individuals involved. The severity of legal consequences may vary, but they intend to deter unauthorised towing activities and maintain the integrity of the towing process. This underscores the need for individuals and towing service providers to be well-informed and compliant with Queensland regulations to avoid falling afoul of the law.

Understanding the legal landscape surrounding towing, particularly the consequences of unauthorised actions, is a simple matter of compliance; it is a safeguard against legal troubles. It reinforces the notion that towing, when conducted within the bounds of the law, serves a legitimate purpose, such as clearing accident sites .

Dealing with Illegally Parked Vehicles

While towing is a common solution for dealing with illegal vehicles, property owners have alternative actions at their disposal. These actions are crucial for situations where towing might not be the most appropriate or simple solution.

Property owners can explore options beyond towing, such as reporting vehicles to local authorities. This alternative approach aligns with the broader goal of maintaining order on private property without resorting to towing immediately. Proper signage is another important aspect, as it forms a clear communication channel with individuals parking on private property.

Understanding rights and available actions empowers property owners to address unauthorised parking. This is vital in fostering a collaborative approach between property owners, towing service providers, and individuals, creating an environment where towing is a well-informed and compliant practice.

Ensuring Legal Towing Practices

Towing a car from private property in Brisbane is a process that goes beyond towing. It requires an understanding of the legal framework, authorisation processes, towing procedures, the potential legal consequences, and consideration of alternative solutions for parked vehicles.

Navigating this complex landscape demands technical expertise but a commitment to towing practices and compliance with Queensland regulations.  Property owners, towing service providers, and individuals involved in towing must collaborate to create a towing landscape that is both legal and responsible.
