Gragson had some fun at Daytona International Speedway with his No. 42 Chevy nicknamed “The BEEF.” He and spotter Earl Barban took to social media as Gragson rode in the Goodyear Blimp searching for his racecar. With the help of binoculars and Barban’s guidance, Gragson found “The BEEF” at the Wendy’s Winner’s Square in the Daytona infield. Gragson and the Wendy’s crew had a decent run in the No. 42 throughout the race until a wreck during the closing laps.

“We had a decent run going in “The BEEF” No. 42 until the end at Daytona,” said Gragson. “Throughout the race we put ourselves in position to finish in the top-10 and then made a couple of mistakes and got caught up in the big wreck at the end. I was really proud of (crew chief) Luke Lambert and the team, so I’m ready for a little redemption at Talladega.”

First Bank of Alabama Teams with JR Motorsports and Sam Mayer at Talladega

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (April 17, 2023) – JR Motorsports announced today the addition of First Bank of Alabama as the newest partner of the No. 1 team with driver Sam Mayer. First Bank of Alabama, the oldest continuously operated bank in the state of Alabama, will be featured as Mayer’s primary partner in Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series event at its home track of Talladega Superspeedway (April 22).

Portimao victory for TOYOTA GAZOO Racing

Toyota City, Japan, Apr 17, 2023 – (JCN Newswire) – TOYOTA GAZOO Racing maintained its winning start to the 2023 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) with victory in a dramatic 6 Hours of Portimao.

Sebastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley and Ryo Hirakawa, the reigning World Champions and 2022 Le Mans winners in the #8 GR010 HYBRID, delivered a faultless performance in Portugal to dominate the race and win by a lap from the #50 Ferrari and the #6 Porsche.

However, there were contrasting emotions for Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Jose Maria Lopez in the #7 GR010 HYBRID. After winning the season-opener at Sebring four weeks ago, they took a ninth-place finish, after losing 11 minutes when race officials ordered a mandatory sensor to be replaced.

A fourth consecutive Hypercar win means TOYOTA GAZOO Racing extends its World Championship advantage to 18 points over Ferrari with five rounds remaining. Sebastien, Brendon and Ryo move to the top of the drivers’ standings and hold an 11-point lead over the #50 Ferrari crew. Mike, Kamui and Jose are a further two behind in third.

On the warmest day of the event, the on-track action was equally hot and a close race between the GR010 HYBRIDs began from the very start. At the first corner, Mike squeezed ahead of pole-sitting Sebastien, who dropped to third when the #51 Ferrari also got through. However, Sebastien got his revenge with a brave overtake on lap four to reclaim second place.

Mike led by five seconds at that point but soon came across lapped traffic and Sebastien gradually reduced the gap. The two GR010 HYBRIDs swapped positions on lap 33, shortly before the first round of pit stops, which saw the #8 maintain its lead.

The race took a dramatic turn after 80 minutes when the team was instructed to change a rear-left driveshaft sensor on the #7 GR010 HYBRID. According to Hypercar regulations, performance is monitored by standardised torque sensors on the driveshafts, which must function at all times.

Mechanics from both car #7 and #8 worked in tandem to change the complete rear-left corner of the car in an impressive 11 minutes, allowing Jose to resume the race in 34th, seven laps down but with still with hope of scoring points.

That left Sebastien with a half-minute lead over the #50 Ferrari which he maintained through to the two-hour mark, when he handed over to Ryo.

Ryo had further extended his advantage by half distance, and the next round of pit stops, while Jose had fought up to 22nd. Brendon took over the lead with two hours remaining as Kamui moved back into the Hypercar points to continue the #7 car’s recovery.

Brendon kept up the pace at the front and lapped the second-placed Ferrari late in the fifth hour, earning a valuable cushion in the event of a safety car. That proved timely when the Vanwall crashed a few minutes later and a safety car compressed the field.

When racing resumed after a 12-minute pause, Brendon was able to immediately make his final pit stop for fuel without losing the lead and he safely navigated the closing stages to take the chequered flag after 222 laps for the team’s 41st win in its 78th WEC race. Mike, who set the fastest lap of the race in the early stages, completed the last stint at the wheel of the #7 car.

The WEC season resumes in just two weeks with the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps on Saturday 29 April, the final round before the centenary edition of the Le Mans 24 Hours on 10-11 June.

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing makes asphalt return in Croatia

Toyota City, Japan, Apr 17, 2023 – (JCN Newswire) – TOYOTA GAZOO Racing World Rally Team heads to the Croatia Rally for the fourth round of the 2023 FIA World Rally Championship season on April 21-23.

The team arrives in Croatia with heavy hearts following the passing last week of Craig Breen. TOYOTA GAZOO Racing sends its deepest condolences to his family and to his team, Hyundai Motorsport.

Considered the first pure asphalt round of the season, the Croatia Rally joined the WRC schedule two years ago and the varied roads around the country’s capital city, Zagreb, are already seen as some of the most challenging on the calendar.

Sebastien Ogier will make his third start of the year following historic victories on Rallye Monte-Carlo and Rally Mexico that have made him the championship leader, while Kalle Rovanpera and Elfyn Evans are only four and 12 points from the lead respectively following consistent starts to their campaigns. Takamoto Katsuta will drive a GR YARIS Rally1 HYBRID in Croatia with the support of the TGR WRC Challenge Program.

Ahead of the event, TGR-WRT is pleased to welcome back Microsoft as a valued partner. The Microsoft logo will once more be visible on the team’s cars from the Croatia Rally onwards.

With the service park located within Zagreb itself, the stages take place in the north of Croatia close to neighbouring Slovenia. The roads feature a wide variety of different asphalt types, which means that the grip available is constantly changing, while mud and rain can bring further challenges. Some sections are technical and twisting, but many others are fast and flowing with jumps and crests.

Much of the route for this year is familiar from 2022. After shakedown on Thursday morning and a ceremonial start in Zagreb that evening, Friday’s opening day action takes place just to the west of the city. All four stages are repeated after mid-day service, creating the rally’s longest day in terms competitive distance, at 130.18 kilometres. The second stage of the loop (Stojdraga – Hartje) has been extended to 25.67 km, making it the longest of the weekend.

Saturday ventures much further south-west, towards the city of Rijeka on the Adriatic coast, with another repeated loop of four stages that takes in the only new test for this year: Ravna Gora – Skrad. The final day on Sunday is held to the north of Zagreb, with a pair of stages run twice; Zagorska Sela – Kumrovec hosting the rally-ending Power Stage for the third year in succession.

LAS VEGAS (April 16, 2023) — With Chevrolet represented in Top Fuel, Funny Car, and Pro Stock final rounds at the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, it was Dallas Glenn, driver of the RAD Torque Chevrolet Camaro SS for KB Titan Racing, capturing the Wally for the Bowtie brand. Earning his sixth victory in Pro Stock while capturing back-to-back Wally trophies, Glenn continued to build on his strong 2023 season campaign. Additionally racing to the final round, Brittany Force, in her Monster Energy/Flav-R-Pack Chevrolet Top Fuel dragster, and John Force, in his BlueDEF Chevrolet Camaro Funny Car, of John Force Racing both raced to third, respectively, in the Four-Wide Nationals in Las Vegas.

I knew I was going to have to be good. I think (Troy Coughlin, Jr.) and I staged about the same time, and then I almost didn’t get my foot down. I was just super pumped up because I didn’t feel like I did my job best like I could have. Like I said, this car is just absolutely the best car I’ve been in by far. It feels really good to show what this car is capable of right now. Other than I got a little bit lucky with Matt (Hartford) missing the tree a little bit because he’s driving very well and his car is very fast right now. I know what’s under the hood of that thing and I know he’s more than capable of kicking my butt any day. I want to keep this momentum going as long as I can.”

I’ve got a long drive home from here. I still drive the truck, and it’s going to be probably bring a smile to my face every now and then that I think of it. I’m on top right now; that’s something new that I’ve never experienced. I’ve always been just hungry chasing somebody, now I’ve got to be fending off the wolves that are coming for me. It’s a little bit different of an experience, but I’m going to enjoy it as long as I can.”

Noah Gragson’s Post-Race Quote: “We had our work cut out for us from qualifying and dealt with some of the same issues we had in practice. Overall, I was just tight in the center of the corners and needed help with drive off. Luke Lambert and the team made adjustments all day long to try to help the handling but we just never had the track position. Today was a tough race but my Sunseeker Resorts team never stopped fighting and I’m so thankful for that. Just looking forward to Talladega as we have had strong cars at Daytona and Atlanta.”

Erik Jones Post-Race Quote: “I’d say overall today was just tough across the board for our Allegiant Chevy. We started off pretty free at the beginning of the race, but Dave kept throwing some adjustments at it. We got it a little on the tight side towards the middle of the race but the last adjustment that we had really helped us. I think we should have some pretty good notes when we return to Martinsville but in terms of this race, I feel like once we were able to get everything figured out it was too little, too late there with the way the cautions fell. But overall I’m proud of everyone on the LEGACY MOTOR CLUB team and I know we’re just gonna keep on fighting through this. I know we’ve got really good strength on the super speedways, so hopefully Talladega goes a little bit more in our favor.”

Late Caution Untimely for Keselowski at Martinsville

No. 6 Team Top-5 until Late Yellow Proves Costly

RIDGEWAY, Va. (April 16, 2023) – Brad Keselowski ran inside the top five for much of the afternoon Sunday at Martinsville Speedway and had a solid finishing position within reach, but a late caution turned out to be costly, relegating the Fastenal Ford to a 24th place finish.

The two-time Martinsville winner entered the top-10 halfway through stage two, and by lap 175 was comfortably in fifth place. A green-flag pit cycle began with around 110 laps remaining with Keselowski in fifth. He remained on track to lead seven laps before pitting with 100 to go, before the caution came out just a lap later, putting him a lap down to the leaders.

He took the wave around for the ensuing restart and restarted 19th with 88 to go, and was unable to regain all of the track position from early in the race.

Keselowski began the day from the 21st position and ended the opening stage of 80 laps in 18th. From there he began his charge forward, starting stage two in 15th, before working to ninth by lap 160. He went on to finish the second stage in fifth earning stage points, and was as high as third on the stage three restart.

The final 46 laps ran caution-free with Keselowski ultimately crossing the line 24th.
