McDowell and Love’s Travel Stops Team Set Expectations at Road America

Eager to Duplicate Road Course Success

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (June 28, 2022) – Michael McDowell and the Love’s Travel Stops team have proved they are a winning threat at road course events. McDowell finished 13th at the event at the Circuit of the Americas and came back to qualify fourth and finish third at the most recent road course race at the Sonoma Raceway.

They have now raised the bar to getting to Victory Lane this weekend in Road America.

“At the beginning of the season, we didn’t know what to expect with this new car,” said McDowell. “At COTA, when we went into practice and qualifying, I was disappointed. We had missed it. But we can back in the race and learned a ton and finished OK. It gave us that base that really propelled us at Sonoma where we had an awesome weekend. We know the next two months are important and an opportunity to capitalize on these road courses. We do have an expectation to compete for wins, especially at a place like Road America.”

McDowell, coming off a thirteenth place finish in Nashville, is ready to return to a track where he has won before in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. With only six races left in the regular season, the team knows the time to capitalize is now.

“I don’t think we can pinpoint any specific race where we can for sure say that it is our race to win or lose, but we all know the time to make it happen is now,” commented McDowell. “We expect to run well and be in contention at all the remaining races. But based on history and performance, and my personal history, this weekend is our weekend to show off again.”

McDowell and his Love’s Travel Stops Ford Mustang will race at Road America this Sunday, July 3 at 3:00 p.m. ET on the USA Network.

Team back at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park with C8.R for the first time

DETROIT (June 28, 2022) – For the first time since 2019, Corvette Racing and the rest of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship is back at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park for Sunday’s Chevrolet Grand Prix.

Absent from the team’s calendar since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2.459-mile, 10-turn road course just outside of Toronto will see the mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette C8.R for the first time. It will be the fourth generation of Corvette to compete at CTMP since the Corvette Racing program first raced there in 2000 with the Corvette C5-R.

Since that time, the team has claimed 11 victories at the track – second-most among all venues behind only Sebring. Three of those came in Corvettes driven by Canadian and Corvette Racing legend Ron Fellows, who is co-owner of Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

Antonio Garcia and Jordan Taylor are part of a six-car field in the GT Daytona (GTD) PRO category, which is part of a 14-car grid in the overall GTD category. The pairing will look to rebound from a disappointing race in the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen two days ago. The No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette C8.R finished sixth in the GTD PRO class and 11th among GTD category runners.

Both drivers have victories to their credit at CTMP in Corvette racecars. Garcia won the GT Le Mans (GTLM) category in 2014, driving a Corvette C7.R with Jan Magnussen. Taylor was victorious the following year in a Corvette Daytona Prototype for Wayne Taylor Racing.

Garcia also is a former pole-winner at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (2016) and set the fastest GTLM race lap in 2015.

The Chevrolet Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. ET on Sunday, July 3. The race will air live on NBC and stream live on Peacock inside the United States and IMSA.com outside the U.S. IMSA Radio will air on-track sessions beginning with Saturday morning’s practice at IMSA.com with the race call also on XM 207 and SiriusXM Online 992.

ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R: “I would have loved to go to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and raced the C8.R in full GTLM spec. That would have been really good to feel and see how the C8.R was around that track. We knew the C7.R was so good, and I believe this car would have been even better. This is always a track I’ve always loved. It’s always tight racing, and traffic is intense. Strategy is important with such a short lap time because it’s very fast. You need to be on top of things, play it smart and be ready to react to everything around you. It can go either way. But CTMP always brings a really good show and good racing. We’re looking forward to getting back there. It’s a track where I’ve done many, many laps in the past. I don’t think things will be way different. Coming from The Glen, I think we’ll be ready to get right into things at CTMP.”

JORDAN TAYLOR, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R: “Going to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park is something we’ve missed. Canada always has an amazing group of fans who are so passionate. The last time they saw Corvette Racing, it was with the C7.R. So they haven’t seen our new car, and we’re excited to show it off there. What we’ve seen so far with the C8.R is that it suits every type of racetrack. We saw last year at Watkins Glen how successful it was at a high-speed track, and that’s kind of what CTMP is. I think our car will suit the track well, and I know we bring an amazing amount of Corvette fans there. They’ll definitely love seeing it.”

Fine Showtime Motorsports Ohio Debut for Ankram and Challenging Race for Lawrence

Lexington, OHIO – June 27, 2022 – The Showtime Motorsports Franklin Road Apparel team enjoyed mixed fortunes at Mid Ohio on Sunday with rookie driver Tyler Ankram scoring a highly creditable P15 on his first visit to the track in the No. 4 Chevrolet Camaro. Teammate Cameron Lawrence in the No. 6 car endured the misfortune of rough contact during the race.

Round 7 of the 2022 Trans Am presented by Pirelli Championship season could only be described as a messy race with numerous cautions and two black flags, with the Franklin Road driver missing out on a top ten finish. Al Unser Jr. in the commentary box noted that cautions breed cautions and while Misha Goikhberg appeared to leave the door open for Cameron to pass, he slammed it shut when the former Champion made his move.

“We put a lot of work in here with TA2 this weekend and the result was a rough race,” said Franklin Road supremo Ken Thwaits. “Once again Cameron and Misha had contact during the race. [The damage] starts from the left all the way to the back of the rear quarter panel. I don’t get it.”

“We were ninth and cruising at the halfway mark but that was it for us. We made this trip, did all the preparation and our team puts in every ounce of effort to perform on track. These events in the race are pushing the boundaries of racing incidents.”

“Tyler Ankrum’s goal was to learn the track because he’s coming back here to race Trucks. He learned what to do and he learned what not to do. We ended up 15th after a spin so mission accomplished for him. They’re happy and it’ll be guns blazing when they get in their NASCAR Truck race here.”

In spite of not getting a clear run in qualifying, Cameron nevertheless maintained his customary speed to put himself in P11 on the grid in a time of 1:25:516 while debutant Tyler Ankram put the No. 4 car in P20 with a time of 1:26:375.

We also got a chance to look ahead to next weekend’s action at Road America where Ken has an awesome surprise for fans. He went on, “For Road America, Paul Menard will be back! We will unveil the new black and yellow No. 5 car this week. From the TA side we’re pretty stoked with what we did yesterday. Our biggest goal has been to get to Tomy Drissi and we did that. Every race is different and I don’t take anything for granted but yesterday we just out ran him.”

Loni Unser Takes Pikes Peak Podium on Debut

Fog, rain, cold add to challenge as Unser adds to family legacy at Pikes Peak

Colorado Springs, Colo. (27 June 2022) – Making her debut run in the Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC) in highly challenging conditions, Loni Unser added another chapter to the remarkable Unser legacy in the event on Sunday.

Taking on the 156 turns in 12.42-miles with nearly 5,000 feet of elevation gain that make Pikes Peak one of the most unique challenges in motorsport, Unser piloted the No. 92 Pep Boys/Yokohama/Mobil 1/Hagerty Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport to second in the Porsche Pikes Peak Trophy class.

The Unser family history in the Pikes Peak event has featured a wide range of cars. From monster Unlimited class entries to electric-powered entries, Unsers have made record-setting runs an the way to taking scores of trophies through the decades from the annual event. 2022 marked the 100th running of the Pikes Peak event as Unser carried the same No. 92 that her father Johnny ran.

Unser, who regularly races in the No. 701 Porsche Cayman for Round Three Racing in World Racing powered by Hagerty, impressed with her pace and poise on debut despite some setbacks leading up to the race.

Practice and qualifying started on Tuesday with the lower section of the mountain as Unser clocked off the third-fastest time in the eight entry class. She upped the ante on Wednesday, setting the second quickest time in practice and qualifying for the middle section of the uphill climb. The third practice and qualifying day was at the top of the mountain. Unser was running second when the mountain grabbed the Porsche GT4 Clubsport. The incident made it questionable if the No. 92 would make Sunday’s race.

Saturday afternoon, the Porsche GT4 came back to life with the help of a fantastic team at Porsche Colorado. Unser took the green flag waved by her dad, Johnny. Unser focused through the dense fog and heavy rain as she made her way up the mountain with a time of 12.55.774-seconds.

“Yesterday was really incredible because it was a miracle,” said Unser. “Finishing second was incredible. There are so many people that helped make this possible, especially since the incident on Thursday. Huge thank you to Porsche Colorado, Porsche North America, my parents, and my sponsors for making this run possible. It was really special to have my dad drop the green flag for me! I’m so thankful for the opportunity to have taken the checkered at Pikes Peak in the Porsche GT4.”

Unser will next be behind the wheel July 8-10 at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta for her fifth World Racing league event for the season. She will be piloting the Hagerty Motorsports-supported No. 701 Porsche Cayman for Round 3 Racing.

1. Chase Elliott: Elliott surged late and held off Kurt Busch to win the Ally 400 at Nashville, earning his first win since May 1st at Dover.

2. Ross Chastain: Chastain took fifth in the Ally 400.

“My No. 1 car was primarily sponsored by Jockey for this race,” Chastain said. “In this business, you can never underestimate the importance of clean underwear, what with racing terms like ‘dirty air,’ ‘runs,’ and ‘rear spoilers.'”

3. Ryan Blaney: Blaney posted a solid third in the Ally 400 at Nashville, scoring his seventh top-five of the season.

“I’m still looking for that elusive win this season,” Blaney said. “I’d get my father Dave to help me find it, but history says he has no clue where to find a win.”

4. Joey Logano: Logano finished ninth at Nashville.

“Former Penske Racing great Rusty Wallace is appearing in a new Skechers commercial,” Logano said. “So, while Rusty wants to put his shoe in the retail market, his former teammate Ryan Newman still wants to put his shoe somewhere else, and that’s in Rusty where the sun don’t shine.”

5. Kyle Busch: Busch was running second at the final caution at Nashville, and opted to pit for tires, which was ultimately the wrong decision. Busch finished 21st, as Chase Elliott, who stayed out, took the win.

“Obviously,” Busch said, “pitting was the wrong call. And, obviously, only signing 100 autographs at a local Wal-Mart was also the wrong call. And obviously, the right thing to do would have been to sign fewer.”

6. Kevin Harvick: Harvick came home 10th at Nashville, posting his eighth top-10 of the year.

“Once again,” Harvick said, “my car was adorned with the Busch Light Apple paint scheme. I’m interested in people’s opinion of what appears to be an awful flavor. If you’re hesitant to give that opinion, I suggest you ‘spit it out.'”

7. Martin Truex Jr.: Truex won Stages 1 and 2, but a late pit stop gamble shuffled him back, and he finished 22nd in the Ally 400.

“I’m returning to Joe Gibbs Racing in 2023,” Truex said. “I think JGR cars give me the best chance to go fast and win races. So, when I ask myself, ‘Should I stay or should I go?,’ I can confidently answer ‘Both.'”

8. Kyle Larson: Larson started third and finished fourth at Nashville, and is seventh in the points standings.

“I haven’t won a race since February in California,” Larson said. “So I feel like I’m due, for a win, or sensitivity training, or both.”

9. Denny Hamlin: Hamlin started on the pole and led a race-high 114 laps en route to a sixth-place finish at Nashville.

“It could have been a much better finish,” Hamlin said. “I should have stayed out on that last caution. If I had it to do over, I would have done a ‘do-over.'”

10. Christopher Bell: Bell finished eighth at Nashville.

“Sunday’s race was delayed twice for lightning,” Bell said, “and once for rain. If only Tim Richmond and Jeremy Mayfield could have somehow caused a disturbance, the race could have also been delayed for ‘snow’ and ‘ice.'”

NTE Sport Lamborghinis Light Up the Competition at Watkins Glen

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (June 27, 2022) – Dallas-based NTE Sport ascended on Watkins Glen International with five Lamborghinis for a three-race weekend between the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and Super Trofeo North America. Though not all of the results were favorable, Fred Roberts secured a third-place finish in Super Trofeo race one, Jaden Conwright earned his first pole position in professional motorsport, and the team’s GTD entry of Don Yount, Jaden Conwright, and Marco Holzer ran competitively with the WeatherTech full-season class leaders to have a strong shot at the podium. An additional four top-five finishes were earned in the Super Trofeo races.

“It was a big move for our team to expand from one GTD entry to now include the strong customer racing program we have in Super Trofeo,” said NTE team owner Paul Mata. “The weekend wasn’t without its challenges, but I’m proud of the performance our customers and team put in. It was a character-building week, but across both programs, we showed we have the pace to run up front.”

WeatherTech SportsCar Championship

Qualifying in the No. 42 NTE/SSR Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo on Saturday, Jaden Conwright was slated to drive a blistering lap, looking to secure a strong starting position for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen. An unfortunate blocking maneuver from another competitor impeded his flying lap, resulting in a sixth-place starting position for Sunday’s big race.

In a change of strategy, the team made the move to start the race with Don Yount driving, moving the No. 42 Lamborghini to start at the rear of the field. Quickly into the race start, the DPI field leaders and LMP cars were mixed into the back of the field. Yount maintained consistency and pace, completing his required drive time in one stint, and bringing the car up to sixth in class. Reentering the field 14th in GTD with Conwright behind the wheel, the charge continued. In his stint between the green race and full course cautions, he brought the car up to fourth in class. Marco Holzer’s time in the car included strategic pit stops and continued fast laps that brought the No. 42 to its highest position of third. During a minor position setback, Holzer entered a full course yellow due to an incident in fourth, which quickly changed to a red flag due to lightning in the area. With the clock continuing to run, the red flag procedure brought cars to a standstill for just over an hour. As cars took back to the track under yellow, the team calculated fuel for the No. 42 and its competitors, deciding to go all-in to the race finish without refueling. If this strategy had paid off, it would have been a podium finish, but with the addition of 10 minutes to the race clock, many teams had to make stops in the final laps of the race. The No. 42 NTE/SSR Lamborghini Huracan GT3 closed out the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen in seventh place.

“This was not the finish we were looking for,” said team owner Paul Mata. “We really demonstrated the car’s pace and the strength of our team. At the end, we went all-in with a bold strategy that could have put us on the podium. It’s really disappointing that the race time was extended for 10 minutes, forcing many teams to pit stop within the last few laps of the race. Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. We’re going to keep fighting this season to make it on those steps.”

I’ve raced long enough to know not to expect an outcome. This time was different running between third and fifth in class for most of the race with such strong codrivers, and flawless team performance. The red flag killed our fuel strategy and all of the top runners had to pit with minutes left in the race. Great job team and to my co-drivers Marco and Jaden, who ran a perfect race.

Overall, we did a solid job as a team. Once the storm rolled through and cut into our race time in the final hours of the race, the red flag and limited time to race was messy, not just for us, but most of the other competitors as well. Overall it was a positive weekend. We are definitely quick. We went from last all the way up to almost first, and that’s something to be proud of.

Marco Holzer

We had a bit of an unlucky ending at Watkins Glen. We had very good pace but we couldn’t do too much against the race clock, with the limited time we had. It would have been fine if we had more time to race, but I know we weren’t the only ones who had to pit so close to the checkered flag. The car was mega and the team did a fantastic job over the weekend. We deserved much better given our pace, and we were close to the podium. Great job by the team.

Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America

Due to a red flag in qualifying session one and limited available time to get up to speed, Friday’s race one’s start positions were less than ideal for a number of the 36-car Super Trofeo field. Shaking things up even more, a full course caution occurred in lap one of the race. When the 10-minute pit window opened 20 minutes into the race, all four cars strategized to stop early in the allotted window. Even through the challenges, all NTE cars were able to maintain or gain class positions from their race starts in their opening stints. The No. 18 driven by John Miller and the No. 42 driven by Jaden Conwright finished fourth in their classes. Fred Roberts finished third in LB Cup, securing him a podium finish in his debut Super Trofeo race.

Conwright produced an impressive performance in qualifying for race two, putting the No. 42 Lamborghini on pole position for race two, his first career pole position in professional sports car racing. After being pinched in turn one at the race start, a few positions were lost. Also starting P1 in class, Jon Miller in the No. 18 had a strong starting position and lost a few positions at the start. During a full course caution that occurred in the first lap of the race, both Conwright and Miller reported being passed under yellow with their protests unanswered. Jeff Courtney began to find his stride with the No. 66, but with the race concluding under a full-course caution, he was unable to utilize his established comfort with the car, finishing in 13th in Am. Roberts crossed the start and finished fourth in LB class, maintaining a solid pace and consistent laps. Though Yount in the No. 42 and Bergstein in the No. 18 spent their stints completing the race fighting to regain positions, they maintained racing at the front of the field and finished fifth in both of their respective classes.

Both Jaden Conwright and Jon Miller each celebrated personal feats over the weekend, with both American drivers setting new Super Trofeo lap records in their class.

“With some very short notice driver changes and a disappointing first qualifying session one time-wise, it took us a little bit to come together in the Super Trofeo program,” said Mata. “I think by race two we were really showing our potential across all classes entered. Between both races we had one podium and five top-five in-class finishes. I’m really looking forward to continuing this momentum at Road America in August.”

Next up, Super Trofeo North America heads to the lush Road America with the IMSA WeatherTech Championship August 5-7.

I think the Super Trofeo weekend went well. I wasn’t supposed to be driving that event so there was zero preparation and zero understanding of anything. I have never raced a sports car on Pirelli tires in general before this weekend, only in single-seaters. There were a lot of unknowns but I think the results were really good. A pole position and hovering around third and fourth the entire stint when I started the car, so it was a learning experience. It’s also the first time I’ve jumped between two different cars in the same weekend. Things could have gone a lot worse with all of the unknowns, I think we did well as a team in all the classes.

Jeff Courtney (Am) ][ No. 66 Lamborghini Super Trofeo

I really like this race track, it’s very fast and very busy, so what’s not to like? I am also really liking the Lamborghini but I am struggling with figuring how to ring its neck for those nine and then-tenths. The turn-in and steering input is unlike anything I have driven so I am trying to work on my timing and commitment. I did find more pace in race two but due to the multiple crashes and yellow flag laps, we did not get a chance to prove much of that. Thanks to the NTE group for all the help this weekend.

Fred Roberts (LB Cup) ][ No. 89 Lamborghini Super Trofeo

After a hiatus from sprint racing due to the events of the past two years, it was great to get right back into it with the Lamborghini Super Trofeo. The cars are proper fast, the field of drivers are skilled and aggressive, and it made for a thrilling first experience for me with the EVO2. I want to thank NTE and our hard-working crew for their efforts in helping me bring home a podium finish at Watkins Glen.

Flying Lizard Motorsports Victorious Again with Pink Unicorn Lamborghini at Watkins Glen

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (June 27, 2022) – Flying Lizard Motorsports returned to the IMSA paddock last weekend at Watkins Glen International, racing in rounds five and six of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America championship. Lizard driver Slade Stewart and his No. 14 pink unicorn Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo Evo2 closed out the weekend with a win in the LB Cup class, his third of the 2022 season.

It is always great racing at Watkins Glen and this weekend didn’t disappoint. Slade is having a great run this year and has shown a lot of speed for his first season. Both Tom and Joel/Brett are also going very well. I am proud of our program, things are working well in all areas of the program and I look forward to the second half of the season.

While the trio of Lizard Lamborghinis had a challenging race one on Friday, the three cars had a stronger race two on Saturday, closing out the weekend with four top-six finishes to accompany Stewart’s win.

Race One
Race one had little love for the Lizards. While the No. 11 Giddy Lamborghini of Brett Jacobson and Joel Miller had a strong fourth place starting position in the Pro/Am class and ran in the top three before an early full-course caution interrupted the race. The team suffered a drive-through penalty for an infraction during the mandatory pit stop, setting the entry back to finish in sixth. Slade Stewart’s bad luck started before the race went green when a piece of debris cut his tire, forcing him to limp into pit lane while the rest of the field roared into turn one. He was able to get a replacement tire and rejoin the race, however unable to gain back much of the lost ground, finishing in sixth place in the LB Cup. Tom Tait had a strong drive in the Am Class, starting twelfth and using his limited green time to charge up to eighth place in the No. 64 Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo Evo2.

Race Two
Stewart started race two from pole position in the LB Cup, with Jacobson starting from sixth in Pro/Am, and Tait in eighth in Am. The field went full course caution in lap one for a crash, prohibiting any gains for the Lizard trio. With 32 minutes remaining, the field went back to green and immediately spread out. Jacobson pitted from seventh, and Miller took over the No. 11 car to complete the race. Tait pitted next, completing his mandatory stop with 25 minutes remaining. Stewart followed three minutes later, still holding to the LB Cup lead. Another full course caution interrupted the race with five minutes to go, and Stewart closed out the event a third-time winner, with Miller and Tait each earning a sixth-place finish in their respective classes. With his third victory of the year, Stewart leads the LB Cup points championship battle.

To date in their debut Lamborghini Super Trofeo, the Lizards have earned three wins and seven top-five finishes, with double headers at Road America and VIRginia International Raceway remaining before the team heads to Portimao, Portugal for the Lamborghini Super Trofeo World Finals. What an amazing weekend. While Saturday didn’t go our way, I learned a lot and worked hard to catch back up with the pack. Sunday, we were positioned well sitting on pole for LB Cup, and once the green flag dropped it was time to go. We had strong competition from the No. 13 and others, but we stayed consistent and smooth, executed our pitstop perfectly, and got back out and ran until another car had a mechanical in the last 12 minutes of the race which caused us to roll under the checkered in first for class, behind the pace car.

Watkins Glen is a track steeped in history books of racing and is was track to be deeply respected for its speed and technical nature. I can’t thank the Flying Lizard team enough for their continued superior support in this Super Trofeo series. I’m looking forward to heading the next, and second to last race weekend at the iconic Road America.

Tom Tait (Am)
No. 64 Emerald Center Lamborghini Super Trofeo
The Flying Lizard team prepared a fantastic car for me this weekend. After running in the top 3 for opening practice, we were able to achieve our best race results in the super-competitive AM class at the historic Watkins Glen International raceway this weekend. We are improving every race, finishing P7 and P6, and on the track, we were very close to bringing home two top 5 finishes. We have more pace in the car and we will for sure be bringing it to Road America in August!

Sheehan Upbeat Leaving Mid Ohio Trans Am with Road America Quick Turn to the Weekend

Lexington, OHIO – June 27, 2022 – Sunday was Round 7 of the 2022 Trans Am presented by Pirelli Championship TA2 season, the first leg of a Midwest double-header that continues next weekend at Road America. One of TA2’s most experienced drivers, New Hampshire’s Tom Sheehan and his LTK team were stymied on the weekend’s events at the Mid Ohio Sportscar Course. A broken rear-end retired the car from the lead lap with three laps to go.

“We unloaded a good car, it took changes well. I was excited to drive the car and it hasn’t been that way for a while for us,” said Tom when we spoke to him after the race. “I think I underperformed a bit in qualifying but in the race we had good pace and I was proud with some progress we made on track this weekend.”

It was very much a stop-start race with multiple long caution flags, and the black flag appeared not once but twice. Piloting the No. 97 LTK Insulation Technologies Ford Mustang, Tom had made his way from a starting position of P23 up to P16 before the mechanical issue that meant an early finish to his race, “I thought the track was getting really slick but our car was working. We were picking them off before we had a surprise big spin. Then I was moving forward again, but the rear-end just gave up. No drive and we retired it.”

Tom is driving a Mike Cope platform car and was generous in his praise for fellow Mike Cope driver Thomas Merrilll who took the checkered flag, “I’m really happy for the Cope guys and Thomas [Merril]. Now we’re looking forward to another quick turnaround. All-in-all it’s not the result we wanted. It’s going to be a long drive home, we lost another rear-end and that’s three so far. We have to figure this out.”

The LTK Ford Mustang picked up 4 Championship points for Tom’s P22 finish to give him a total of 51. He provisionally he retains his place in the top 20 despite having missed the two races in California.
