When It’s Time to Replace Your Tires

Photo by Varun Gaba on Unsplash

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that about 9% of vehicle crashes are due to poor tire conditions. The tires on your vehicle help your car stay fuel-efficient, balanced, and safe. It’s essential to keep up your tire maintenance and know when to replace your tires for your safety. Many drivers, who have been driving for a long time, inevitably lose all plans at least once because of a broken tire. Of course, after that, you have to dodge by replacing the wheels or calling a tow truck. However, the timing of the action has yet to return. That’s why drivers are advised to use tires with RunFlat technology. What it is and what its advantages are, you can read more. Let’s check out the eligibility of using tires and their benefits.

Tire Condition

Replacing old or damaged tires is a normal part of car maintenance. You will need to replace your tires at some point.

It’s important to understand that tires keep you and the people who ride in your vehicle safe. Your ability to drive safely depends heavily on your car’s ability to brake. It also depends on your car’s ability to perform in harsher weather conditions.

The more you drive your car, the more you naturally wear your car’s tread, inflation, and overall condition.

The durability of your tires wears down over time. This gradual breakdown comes from weather conditions, road conditions, over or under-inflation, and heat. No tire is safe from these conditions, so vehicle owners must understand when to replace tires.

Testing Your Tires

While there are no standardized tests to determine when it’s time to replace your tires, there are some guidelines you can follow to ensure your vehicle’s safety.

You can test the tread depth of your tires using a quarter. Place George Washington’s head into one of the tire grooves. The top of his head should be well within the tire tread. If it is, that means your tire has 4/32 inch tread left and has enough grip for snowy or rainy roads. However, if you see space above George Washington’s head, you may need new tires immediately.

Determining Tire Age

Another to make sure that your tires are safe is to follow the guidelines for tire age. Some tire manufacturers say that you should replace your tires after six years, no matter how much you’ve used your vehicle. Other manufacturers say that ten years is the maximum life span for tires regardless of their condition.

To check your tire age, you can look at the identification number on the sidewall, which begins with the letters “DOT.” Look at the last four digits. These are the week and the year to indicate how old the tire is.

Replacing Your Tires

Ultimately, the time to replace your tires depends on your tires’ condition. Even if your vehicle hasn’t reached the six or ten-year mark, it is vital to monitor your tires’ condition to see if they need replacing. You can call a mobile tire service provider to replace your tires from your home. A professional can find you the right kind of tire that you need and deliver tires right where you are.

All online casino bonuses you can get in online casino

There are many reasons why a sports bettor and other players turn to online casinos. The convenience is no doubt at the top of the list. Anyone of the legal age can open an account to the casino site and make a wager without leaving the comfort of your home. Some gaming websites also have a mobile that allows players to play any games anytime and anywhere they like.

Aside from convenience, many players would argue that it is more lucrative if you choose to play online. This is because of the online casino bonuses that you claim and use in playing. Bonuses are the incentives that online casino operators offer to attract and keep their members interested.

Brick-and-mortar casinos don’t offer bonuses. If they do, it is usually lower than what you can claim on online casino websites. These also come in different sizes and forms. There are bonuses being offered to celebrate holidays and there are also bonuses that allow you to replenish your losses.

If you want to have successful experience in an online casino, make sure you are familiar with the following bonuses. Watch out for these offers as this as the most lucrative you can claim online.

Welcome bonus/signup offer

This type of bonus is the biggest you can get online. After you signup for a casino account to the casino, you can get this offer. The welcome bonus can double sometimes triple your first deposit. Some casino sites packed their welcome offer with frees spins that can be used to play selected slot machines.

As the name suggests, the welcome can only be claimed by new members who haven’t deposited any account yet to their account in the past. It can also be claimed only once per player.

No-Deposit Bonus

The No-deposit bonus is probably the most coveted type of online casino bonus. Players sought this offer more because it allows them to play any casino games without any risk of losing money. The reason is that the no-deposit bonus is like free money offered by the casino operator.

The no-deposit bonus can be used on selected games assigned by the casino. What makes this bonus really special is that that the players are allowed to withdraw their winnings after completing the wagering requirements.

There are different types of no-deposit bonuses. The most common is the free credit or free bet which is in the form of actual currency. In online casinos in Thailand, the no deposit free spin is very popular because of the number of gaming sites that specializes in offering online slot. The casino operator advertises this offer สล็อต ฟรีเครดิต ไม่ต้องฝาก ไม่ต้องแชร์ which can be translated to Free credit on slots, no need for a deposit, no need to share.

Cashback bonus

Cashback technically falls under the no-deposit category as you don’t need to deposit any amount to your account to claim the offer. However, only the players who have spent time playing the casino games are eligible to claim the offer. Many casino sites also set an amount that should be reached for the players to be qualified.

Here is how the cashback bonus works. The players play casino games with real money wager over a certain period of time. The casino will total the players’ net losses or their deposits. The players then will be credited with a percentage of their losses or deposits.

Typically, cashback ranges between 5% and 25%.  The cashback is calculated every week or once a month. Sometimes it is in the form of money that you can instantly withdraw. Others, however, are free credit that you can use to play the game.

Reload Bonus/Deposit bonus

This is completely the opposite of the no-deposit bonus and works similarly to the welcome bonus. Here, the casino will match a percentage of players’ deposits.  Reload bonus, however, is a smaller amount when compared to welcome bonus. This usually ranges between 10% and 50% of players’ deposits.

The good thing about this bonus is that it can be claimed several times every day. Players are allowed to use the bonus up to three times in some casino sites. The reload bonus can also be claimed by all casino members, not only the new ones.

Spire Motorsports, LaJoie Partner with ARK.io for Martinsville

CONCORD, N.C. (April 8, 2021) – ARK.io will serve as the primary sponsor of Spire Motorsports’ No. 7 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE and driver Corey LaJoie in Saturday night’s NASCAR Cup Series Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 500 at Martinsville Speedway.

ARK Ecosystem (ARK.io) is an international open source software development company. Its primary focus is building innovative technological solutions for the Blockchain and Cryptocurreny industry.

“I am extremely excited to sponsor Corey (LaJoie) for the fourth year in a row,” said Travis Walker, ARK Co-Founder. “We’re thrilled about his move to Spire Motorsports. I also support a late model program in the Midwest that runs the No. 7 so that’s a fun synergy between the two teams. I’m also very thankful for his manager as well, keeping everything running smoothly and allowing me to continue to help with designing the livery. I look forward to seeing Corey back on a short track and our continued relationship into his bright future in this sport.”

A blockchain is a digital record or ledger of transactions. The name comes from its structure, in which individual records and transactions are gathered and verified in large chunks, called blocks, once verified this block of transactions is linked together to the previous block forming a chain of blocks. Blockchains are used for recording transactions and are the underlying technology behind cryptocurrencies, such as ARK and Bitcoin. Blockchains have many other applications, as well.

“It’s awesome to have ARK.io back this weekend,” explained LaJoie. “I’m grateful to Travis and everyone at ARK for the support they’ve provided me, personally, over the last several years. He’s also a late model team sponsor and former kart racer, so he gets it. I appreciate that he continues to believe in me. ARK.io it the world’s simplest way to blockchain, so I’d urge anyone who may have a need for digital record keeping to consider ARK’s services. Statistically, Martinsville is one of my best tracks and it’s also the first true short-track race of the year, so I’m excited to see what my Spire Motorsports team can accomplish this weekend.”

Spire Motorsports jump started its 2021 campaign with a pair of top-10s in the Daytona 500 where Jamie McMurray and LaJoie finished eighth and ninth, respectively. Justin Haley returns to the seat of the team’s No. 77 Diamond Creek Water Camaro this weekend after veteran dirt racer and Camping World Truck Series regular Stewart Friesen handled the driving duties two weeks ago at Bristol Motor Speedway.

“We’re looking forward to having ARK.io and Diamond Creek Water on board our cars Saturday night at Martinsville,” added Spire Motorsports co-owner T.J. Puchyr. “We had a great start to the season at Daytona and everyone has been working hard to get better ever since. The team had a much-needed weekend off but I think everyone is itching to get back to the race track. When you think of NASCAR tradition, one of the first tracks that comes to mind is Martinsville. From my perspective, it doesn’t get much better than 500 laps on Saturday night.”

The Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 500 from Martinsville Speedway will be televised live on FS1 Saturday, April 10 beginning at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). The eighth of 36 races on the 2021 NCS schedule will be broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90.

About Spire Motorsports …
Spire Motorsports was established in 2018 and is co-owned by longtime NASCAR industry executives Jeff Dickerson and Thaddeus “T.J.” Puchyr. Spire Motorsports earned an upset victory for the ages in its first full season when Justin Haley took the checkered flag in the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway on July 7, 2019.

CHEVY NCS AT MARTINSVILLE: Team Chevy Advance

TEAM CHEVY ADVANCE
BLUE-EMU MAXIMUM PAIN RELIEF 500
MARTINSVILLE SPEEDWAY
RIDGEWAY, VIRGINIA
APRIL 10, 2021

RACE #8 – MARTINSVILLE SPEEDWAY
The challenging Martinsville Speedway, which has hosted two NASCAR Cup Series (NCS) races per season since 1950, is the site this week for the Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 500 and NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) Cook Out 250.

Chase Elliott won the last NASCAR Cup Series race on .526-mile paperclip on November 1, 2020, on the way to wrapping up his first NCS Driver Championship. Starting eighth based on metric qualifying in his No. 9 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE, Elliott led 236 of the 500 laps. Elliott, who made his NCS debut at Martinsville Speedway in the sixth race of the 2015 season, has four top-five and six top-10 finishes in 11 races at the track.

Career Chevrolet driver Jimmie Johnson is the last driver to win from the pole or No. 1 starting position — in April 2013, the eighth of his nine victories at the track. Kurt Busch leads active drivers with 41 starts and 19,883 laps completed. Busch, No. 1 GEARWRENCH Camaro ZL1 1LE, has won at the track in 2014 and 2002 (from the 36th starting position) and has 10 short track victories in his NCS career.

Justin Allgaier, No. 7 Walmart Fight Hunger Camaro SS, will lead the Chevrolet contingent to the green flag in the Cook Out 250 from the outside of the front row. Allgaier, who won at Atlanta two weeks ago, was runner-up in the October 2020 race at Martinsville. AJ Allmendinger, No. 16 Ellsworth Advisors Camaro SS, who won the NXC race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and is fourth in the Driver Standings, will start third.

FS1 will telecast the NASCAR Cup Series’ 500-lap/263-mile Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 500 at 7:30 p.m. EDT Saturday, April 10.

57 WINS AND COUNTING
Chevrolet leads all manufacturers with 57 victories at Martinsville Speedway, including 25 by Hendrick Motorsports – Jeff Gordon and Johnson with nine; Darrell Waltrip with four; and Geoff Bodine, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Elliott with one each. Chevrolet has 797 NASCAR Cup Series wins to lead all manufacturers.

FOUR IN THE TOP-10
Kyle Larson, driver of the No. 5 Camaro ZL1 1LE, is fourth in the NCS Driver Standings. William Byron, No. 24 Camaro ZL1 LE, is sixth and Chase Elliott, No. 9 Camaro ZL1 1LE, is ninth. Austin Dillon, No. 3 Camaro ZL1 1LE, is tied for 10th.

Larson and Byron have secured their spots in the 10-race Playoff run after winning already this season. Byron, who has scored five top-eight finishes in a row, was runner-up in the October 2019 race at Martinsville.

ON THE WAY TO THE GREEN
With no practice or qualifying for the race, the starting lineup is determined by NASCAR’s metrics system that was introduced to the series last year and incorporates results from both individual races and season-long results.

Here are Team Chevy’s Top-20 starters:

QUOTABLE QUOTES
KYLE LARSON, NO. 5 HENDRICKCARS.COM CAMARO ZL1 1LE – 4th IN STANDINGS
LARSON ON MARTINSVILLE’S CHALLENGES:
“Martinsville is probably one of my worst tracks – it’s been the toughest for me to figure out since there are so many challenges there. It’s a different style than what I grew up racing. You’re hard on the brakes and you need to be consistent with that while hitting your marks lap after lap. It’s such a challenge to do all that and keep up with the changing lines throughout the race. Hopefully, someday I can win a Martinsville clock.”

CLIFF DANIELS, CREW CHIEF, NO. 5 HENDRICKCARS.COM CAMARO ZL1 1LE
DANIELS ON WORKING WITH LARSON AT MARTINSVILLE’S WET WEATHER TIRE TEST LAST WEEK:
“Testing was cool, and it’s always good to have more time with Kyle. It helps our team continue the rhythm we’re in – just being able to cut laps around the place with him in one of our cars is always helpful. NASCAR has some good rain tire options if they choose to use them in the future.”

DANIELS ON FINISHING TENTH WITH JIMMIE JOHNSON IN 2020:
“We led a lot of laps early but didn’t keep up with the track as well as we should have. We were just an adjustment behind. We got up front, we led laps, and we knew the car was fast, but we didn’t want to over-adjust so we made small adjustments. After looking back at our notes, the track really tightened up throughout the race. Our teammates got aggressive with their changes and we were just a step behind.”

WILLIAM BYRON, NO. 24 LIBERTY UNIVERSITY CAMARO ZL1 1LE – 6th IN STANDINGS
BYRON ON THE CHALLENGES OF RACING AT MARTINSVILLE:
“Martinsville Speedway is always difficult no matter how many times you’ve raced there. You have to balance the entry of the corner to how you turn in the middle, all while not allowing the guy behind you to get underneath you on the exit of the corner. You want to be aggressive enough to make up ground but also not overly aggressive that you lose track position early on. It’s a track that requires patience and the knowledge of when to push it and when to save. It’s a challenge for sure but I enjoy it. It makes it tough on the drivers to get around there.”

BYRON ON ADJUSTING TO THE REMOVAL OF THE INFIELD GRASS AT MARTINSVILLE:
“I’m interested to see what it’s like with the grass removed but I don’t think it will change much on the racetrack. The only thing I think that will be different is your visual cues. You’ll have to get use to looking at the concrete at the start of the race and set new marks for yourself in the corners. That’s always critical there. It will make the first couple laps interesting but once you figure those marks out, it will get easier as the race goes.”

CHASE ELLIOTT, NO. 9 NAPA AUTO PARTS CAMARO ZL1 1LE – 9th IN STANDINGS
“Last year’s win at Martinsville was huge for us. It’s great to know that we’ve had some good runs at there, but you always have to keep in mind that your past success doesn’t equal success in the future. It never has and I don’t think it ever will – that’s just racing. So, I think for us, we will have some good information from last year and I look forward to getting to Martinsville this weekend and seeing what we can do.”

AUSTIN DILLON, NO. 3 AMERICAN ETHANOL CAMARO ZL1 1LE – 11th IN STANDINGS
“I really like Martinsville Speedway. It is one of those places where you go through so many emotions during the course the race. Someone might bump you and that give-and-take can get frustrating. It’s a short little paper clip, with hard-braking corners. We’ve had some solid runs there, and I think that we can go back and do it again. We’d love to have a good run at Martinsville Speedway.”

RICKY STENHOUSE JR., NO. 47 KROGER/CREST CAMARO ZL1 1LE – 14th IN STANDINGS
“I think short track racing at Martinsville Speedway with the lights is going to be awesome. NASCAR Cup Series cars, an especially our No. 47 Kroger/Crest Chevrolet, look better under the lights and we know fans love seeing the sparks fly. Martinsville always has a lot of contact and beating and banging so going into it expecting that I think is half the battle. Martinsville is not typically my favorite track, but we’re on a really strong momentum swing right now with strong runs at Bristol and Atlanta so I’m looking forward to racing after a week off and keeping that going.”

ALEX BOWMAN, NO. 48 ALLY CAMARO ZL1 1LE – 16th IN STANDINGS
BOWMAN ON GETTING BACK ON TRACK AFTER THE WEEKEND OFF:
“It was nice to have a weekend off last week. A week off is nice, but I am ready to get to Martinsville this weekend. We had two top-10 finishes at the track last season and I think we have a good notebook to lean on for Saturday night’s race. Hendrick Motorsports has been strong at Martinsville in the past and I feel like our teams can lean on each other a bit for this weekend’s race.”

GREG IVES, CREW CHIEF, NO. 48 ALLY CAMARO ZL1 1LE
“Anytime you have night races, you prepare a little bit differently depending on the track grip. There were times when you would start the race during the day and then it would end at night, but this is a true night race. Now we just have to worry about if the track is going to rubber up or not. I think it is generally going to be a clean track and hopefully we can get another groove in there. You might see some fender banging to make the pass. You might have some tempers flare, but it’s just short track racing.”

RYAN PREECE, NO. 37 LOUISIANA HOT SAUCE CAMARO ZL1 1LE – 18th IN STANDINGS
“I’m looking forward to racing at Martinsville Speedway under the lights this Saturday night. We’ve got a new look on our No. 37 Louisiana Hot Sauce Chevrolet, and I’m lucky enough to be running the Modified race on Thursday night and get plenty of laps in before the NASCAR Cup Series hits the track on Saturday. Martinsville is one of my favorite tracks, we’ve had some strong runs there in the Cup Series and I’ve been fortunate enough to get a win in the Modified Series there so I feel good about it, and feel like we are heading the right direction to come out with a strong run.”

DANIEL SUAREZ, NO. 99 CAMPING WORLD CAMARO ZL1 1LE – 20th IN STANDINGS
“I love going to Martinsville. It’s just a different atmosphere and they have things so unique to them – the trophy, the style of track, etc. Martinsville is cool because it’s one of the old-school tracks that we go to. I drive back and forth from home and it’s a unique place. It reminds me kind of like a Late Model race, where it’s just a different environment from the big tracks we usually go to.”

ERIK JONES, NO. 43 PETTY’S GARAGE CAMARO ZL1 1LE – 22nd in STANDINGS
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM A NIGHT RACE AT MARTINSVILLE?
“I think the Martinsville Speedway is going to be good for our Richard Petty Motorsports team. I look at last year and how we ran there in the fall race, which ended at night, and when the sun went down was when the team was at its best. Between that race, and the way Richard Petty Motorsports has run the last few years at Martinsville (Speedway), I feel good about going into the weekend.

“It is going to be a cool race. It is the first true night race at the Martinsville Speedway for the NASCAR Cup Series, which is going to be fun. I think we are all looking forward to the race, and what it is going to look like. I am excited to get there.”

TYLER REDDICK, NO. 8 CHILDRESS VINEYARDS CAMARO ZL1 1LE – 25th IN STANDINGS
LAST YEAR WAS YOUR FIRST TIME RACING AT MARTINSVILLE SPEEDWAY SINCE 2016. WHAT ARE SOME THINGS YOU LEARNED THAT WILL BE HELPFUL FOR THIS WEEKEND?
“One thing I think that really stood out not just to me, but a lot of the drivers was how hot that June Martinsville race was. Everyone is so used to it being cold at Martinsville that the heat really took everyone by surprise. So, I’m definitely taking my hydration seriously this week to avoid being overheated this time around. We also saw the track change a lot during both races, and we needed to do a better job of keeping up with it. That’ll be a major focus this time for us. This track is one of my crew chief’s favorites so I’m confident we’ll have a good plan for our No. 8 Childress Vineyards Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE on Saturday night.”

COREY LAJOIE, NO. 7 ARK.IO CAMARO ZL1 1LE – 29th IN STANDINGS
“Really looking forward to getting to Martinsville this weekend. Statistically, it’s turned into one of my better tracks, but also one of my favorites to drive. It’s awesome to have Travis and Ark.io back on the Chevy Camaro this weekend as he continues to support my racing career. This race is the first true short track race of the year, so I’m excited to see what Ryan Sparks and my team at Spire Motorsports can accomplish at the paper clip this weekend!”

We look forward to welcoming the greatest fans and drivers in motorsports back to Northern California.”

Martin Truex Jr. will attempt to defend back-to-back race wins in wine country in addition to his visit to Sonoma’s Victory Lane in 2013.

“I’ve been waiting for a while to go back to Sonoma and try to get the three-peat,” said Truex, Jr., driver of the No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota. “I’m excited to hear that we’ll have fans in attendance. Sonoma is such a fun track and it’s a great part of the country. It’s beautiful and always great weather. I can’t wait to get there in June and see all of our fans in California that we haven’t seen in quite a while.”

Sonoma Raceway continues to work with local health officials and is dedicated to following all state, local and CDC health guidelines. COVID-19 safety protocols, including face mask requirements, social distancing and cashless transactions, will remain in place for the June race weekend.

The 2020 NASCAR Cup Series event was relocated to Charlotte Motor Speedway.

PARKER DUMAS WIN LUCAS OIL POWRi SOUTHWEST LIGHTNING SPRINT RACE AT BARONA SPEEDWAY

(Lakeside, CA, April 8, 2021) San Diego, California’s Parker Dumas started outside of the front row and went on to post the victory in last Saturday’s Lucas Oil POWRi Southwest Lightning Sprint Car main event at the Barona Speedway. The victory was Dumas first in a Lightning Sprint.

Before the main event, Yucca Valley, California’s Jeff Dyer and Wyatt Boczanowski split the two 10-lap heat races.

Veteran Jon Squire of El Cajon, California was on the pole for the main event with Dumas outside. Row two was made up of Boczanowski and teenager Grant Sexton of Lakeside, California. Dyer and Dalton Sexton started in row three. Squire immediately jumped to the point at the drop of the green and had nearly a half straight lead by the end of the second circuit. However, Dumas dramatically closed back in on lap three.

The racing came to a halt on the fourth lap when a car near the back spun in turn four. When the yellow came out, track officials checked the surface and found a lot of oil on the front straight. It came from Dyer’s car which had spit off its oil filter at the start of the race forcing him to drop out. After a rather lengthy delay to clean up the slick stuff, racing resumed with Squire in the lead ahead of Dumas, Boczanowski, Dalton Sexton and his younger brother Grant. Dumas immediately began hounding Squire for the top spot and going into turn three on the sixth lap, he poked his nose ahead and captured the lead.

Another yellow flew on lap seven when Boczanowski spun in turn two while running third. That allowed Squire to close to Dumas’ rear end for the restart. It also moved Grant Sexton, who was driving the same car that his dad won in at Mojave Valley Raceway the week before, up to third. This time when the green came back out, Dumas raced away to a commanding lead. At the same time, Grant Sexton and San Diego’s David Bezio quickly passed Squire to move into second and third, respectively. One circuit later, Dalton Sexton got by Squire putting SGR cars second, third and fourth. That, however, did not last for long. On lap 11 Dalton pulled to the infield relinquishing the fourth spot to impressive El Cajon teen Braden Chiaramonte. It was amazing that Chiaramonte even started the main event after a nasty cockpit fire earlier in the night.

A surprise to many came when Dumas built a half straight lead over the youngest of the Sexton clan, Grant, when action resumed. However, when they hit the lapped traffic on lap 16, Sexton reeled him back in. Coming off turn four on the 17th go around, Sexton dove to the inside and bulled his way into the lead. He then tapped the inside berm in turn one and nearly handed the top spot back to Dumas, but once he recovered from that momentary bobble, he steered his car clear of the second-place runner and began to pull away. Unfortunately, all that action went for naught when the car of Matt Sotomayor lost a tire and came to a stop by the turn four crashwall forcing another yellow.

Before action got back underway, the race was reverted to the last completed lap, putting Dumas back in front followed by Sexton, Bezio, Chiaramonte and Boczanowski, who had worked his way back up to fifth after his earlier spin. Another brief yellow came when a back marker spun in turn two setting up what turned out to be the final restart of the night. A green, white checkered finish would decide it. Once the green waved, Bezio tried to dive to the inside of Sexton for second. Those two battling for the runner up spot allowed Dumas to pull away and he ended up winning by nearly a half straight. Sexton came home second with Bezio, Chiaramonte and Boczanowski rounding out the top five. Impressive rookie Chiaramonte was the “Hard Charger” finishing fourth after starting 10th.

The SWLS gets this weekend off but will be back in action on April 17th at the Barona Speedway.

Johnny O’Connell Named Grand Marshal of Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) 43rd Mitty at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta

America’s Top Team Corvette Racing Driver Presides Over April 21 – 25 Blockbuster HSR Event Showcasing Corvette as Featured Marque

BRASELTON, Georgia (April 8, 2021) – Johnny O’Connell, the premier American Corvette race car driver of his generation and one of the most successful sports car racing drivers of the modern era, has been named the Grand Marshal of the Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) 43rd Mitty at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, April 21 – 25, which showcases Corvette as the Featured Marque.

“Needless to say, it is pretty cool to be asked to be the Grand Marshal for this year’s Mitty, especially with Corvette being the featured marque,” O’Connell said. “To be an American and race for Corvette, and to three times stand with them on the top step of the podium at the 24 Hours Le Mans, well you can’t even begin to put into words that feeling when they play our National Anthem and raise our American flag.”

In a 20-year relationship with GM that ended just two years ago, O’Connell raced and won championships in Corvettes and Cadillacs. It was his accomplishments behind the wheel of “America’s Sports Car” that brought him the most fame.

“It kind of goes without saying, but of the many years I spent racing, it was my time racing for Corvette that I’m best known for,” O’Connell said. “I think I could argue it was one of the most important times as what we did really redirected Chevrolet’s passion and focus on Corvette and its global appeal.”

In his first start with GM at the wheel of one the trademark bright yellow Corvette Racing entries, O’Connell came home an overall winner in the 2001 Rolex 24 At Daytona.

Co-driving the victorious Corvette C5-R with Ron Fellows, Chris Kneifel and Franck Freon, the 2001 win was O’Connell’s first of 41 victories with Corvette Racing, second only to longtime teammate Oliver Gavin.

In addition to the Daytona win and three Le Mans triumphs, O’Connell’s career with Corvette Racing produced three ALMS Driver Championships, five wins at Sebring and a pair of victories at Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, O’Connell’s home track.

A resident of nearby Flowery Brach, Georgia, O’Connell and his family live just minutes away from Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.

“Being Grand Marshal is quite a cool honor,” said the 58-year-old O’Connell, “but it’s a double-edge sword! I don’t see myself being old enough yet to serve as a Grand Marshal! That it is also at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, my home track, well it’s special to say the least. I recall going to the Mitty years ago and seeing one of my old cars there. I thought ‘wow, my cars are starting to be considered historic!’”

O’Connell also won four titles for GM driving Cadillacs in Pirelli World Challenge, the last series in which he competed full time. The last time he raced at a professional level was the 2018 World Challenge round at Utah Motorsports Campus, where he shared a Robinson Racing-run Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R with his son Canaan O’Connell.

“All in all, I’ve been so blessed in my career and life,” O’Connell said. “Getting to live out a boyhood dream and race with and against some of the world’s best drivers, I’ve been very lucky indeed. I consider myself very fortunate.”

Competitor entries are open and spectator tickets are on sale now for the HSR 43rd Mitty. A variety of ticket options, from tent camping and daily admission on up to RV Parking and weekend tickets, are available at www.HSRTickets.com.

Current online ticket orders are shipped and discounted from at-event prices, but advance ticket purchases after today, April 8, will be held at HSR Will Call in the Driver/Crew Registration Office at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta for pick up starting Thursday, April 22.

Ticket sales end online April 19 and begin again April 22 with at-event sales only at the at the Driver/Crew Registration office or at the gate at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta

The early-entry deadline for competitors is today, April 8. Run Groups are available for everything from all types of sports car from the last 60 years to Stock Cars to open-wheel Formula and Indy cars. Entry forms are available at www.HSRRace.com.

More information, including the event schedule, can be found on the official HSR 43rd Mitty event page at www.HSRRace.com.

Greg Van Alst gearing up for busy April

ANDERSON, Ind.: ARCA Menards Series driver Greg Van Alst was supposed to return familiar territory this weekend.

Van Alst had been slated to return to ARCA CRA Super Series competition this weekend at Anderson (Ind.) Speedway and kickoff a busy month of racing that will include Super Late Models and his second ARCA Menards Series start of 2021.

However, Saturday’s Mitch Smith Auto Service 125 presented by Perfecto Tool has been postponed due to inclement weather and has been rescheduled for May 22.

Van Alst, 39, had hoped to invade his hometown track this weekend looking to gain momentum in Saturday night’s event before shifting his attention towards his Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway ARCA debut on Apr. 24, 2021.

“I was so looking forward to climbing in our Super Late Model and getting down to business this weekend,” said Van Alst. “Even though we haven’t been racing since Daytona, we’ve been busy getting the Super ready – while also getting the ARCA car repaired in time for Talladega.

“Hopefully, everything still works out in our schedule and we’re able to come back and race at Anderson in May and be at Charlotte with the ARCA car a week later.”

Van Alst, the 2019 ARCA CRA champion knows what it takes to conquer Anderson’s demanding short track and with the help of his Greg Van Alst Motorsports team, looks forward to the opportunity to hopefully continue to add his impressive Late Model statistics next month.

“You have to stay out of trouble to keep all the fenders on it for the end,” said Van Alst. “We built this car specifically for the Redbud 400 last year, but COVID-19 hiccups presented us from actually being able to utilize this car.

“This race when it is run shows us what we need to do for the Red Bud later in the year. So, there is plenty of objectives but still just one goal.”

In addition to select Super Late Model events this year, Van Alst will make the second of several ARCA Menards Series starts in two and a half weeks at the famed 2.66-mile superspeedway.

In his return to ARCA’s premier series in nearly two decades at Daytona, Van Alst impressed.

Qualifying a career-best third, he kept his No. 35 CB Fabricating Chevrolet inside the top-five until the leaders tangled and setoff a multi-car accident that collected Van Alst after just 28 laps.

Knowing what his car and team is capable of, Van Alst is looking forward to making more noise in the upcoming General Tire 200.

“I am very blessed to have a great 2021 racing season lined up,” added Van Alst. “It’s been pretty quiet since Daytona, but this is really the calm before the storm getting prepared for the summer and fall races.

“I think we proved a lot as a small-family-owned team at Daytona and look forward to that second chance at Talladega in a few weeks. But first, Anderson is on deck and we will put 100 percent effort into that and then get ready to get after it again.”

CB Fabricating will continue its role as the team’s primary marketing partner for the anticipated thriller. Top Choice Fence and Norton Transport will serve as marketing partners for the 125-lap event.

Headquartered in Anderson, Ind., CB Fabricating offers a complete list of fabricating from design, laser cutting, CNC punching, forming, welding, powder coating, and assembly.

Their 26,000 square foot facility allows them to service the needs of many different industries. Everything from the Automotive, agricultural, aquatic, medical, transportation, electrical enclosures, and much more.

“Chris Barkdull and his CB Fabricating team continue to make things happen for our Van Alst Motorsports team and I am incredibly grateful,” added Van Alst. “This weekend, we are going back to our roots sort to speak and that should be an absolute blast.”

Additional specifics on Greg Van Alst Motorsports’ 2021 ARCA Menards Series program is forthcoming, including a detailed series schedule.
