Ryan Truex’s Marquis Chevrolet to Honor Make-A-Wish at Richmond Raceway

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (April 6, 2021)– Ryan Truex and the No. 40 Marquis®Chevrolet will carry the Make-A-Wish®colors in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Richmond Raceway on Saturday, April 17. 

In celebration of 900 wishes granted in partnership with Make-A-Wish, the Marquis No. 40 Chevrolet will bear the names of all 900 wish kids—from Andrea to Viera—on the truck bed. Over 20 years ago, Andrea’s wish for a hot tub inspired the enduring partnership between Marquis and Make-A-Wish. Andrea’s signature graces both doors, and eight-year-old Viera’s wish marks this 900thmilestone. In honor of World Wish Day on April 29th, 2021 please donate at wish.org/promotions.

While it is Truex’s first start in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at Richmond Raceway, the 29-year-old driver is no stranger to the track, with seven NASCAR Xfinity Series starts to his credit at the .75-mile track.  In those seven starts, Truex has one top-five finish and three top-10 finishes. 

Truex also has three NASCAR Cup Series starts to his credit, with his most recent coming in 2014.

Newman at Martinsville Speedway

  • Newman returns to Martinsville this weekend, the site of one of his 18 Cup Series victories, for his 39th NCS event at the 1-mile track. In 38 races, Newman has an average finish of 14.8 with 17 top-10s, including eight finishes inside the top five.
  • Newman won the spring race back in 2012, leading the final 12 laps after starting fifth. He’s completed nearly 98 percent of all the laps at ‘The Paperclip,’ and finished in the top-10 for 45 percent of his starts.
  • Newman’s other top finishes include a runner-up result in 2007 and two third-place finishes (2004, 2014). Most recently, Newman finished 12th in last season’s spring event, and 18th in the fall.

Newman in Modified Race Thursday

  • Prior to hopping in his Cup car Saturday night, Newman will run in Thursday night’s NASCAR Modified Tour season opener, the first visit to ‘The Paperclip’ for the series since 2010.
  • Only nine of the drivers who competed in that race are on the entry list for the return. Newman and Ryan Preece tested at Martinsville a few weeks back in a modified, and join a stacked field of 40 cars on the entry list.
  • Newman has 28 NWMT starts all-time, including 20 at Loudon and eight at Bristol. He has four NWMT wins and 11 top-10s in the series.

Scott Graves at Martinsville Speedway

  • Graves will call his 10th Cup event at Martinsville this weekend, where he has an average finish of 20.4, but is coming off two top-12 finishes with Newman. The duo ran 10th in the 2019 fall race and backed that up with a 12th-place finish last spring.
  • Prior to 2019, Graves had a top finish of 15th, which came in 2017.

It’s a tight track, very challenging race and physical race, both inside and outside the track. I thought the first race there last race was really strong for us, the second one was decent, and this will be a good opportunity for us.”

Last Time Out
In the series’ last outing on the Bristol Dirt two weeks ago, Buescher ran much of the race in the top-10, earning stage points in the first stage. But, a flat right rear tire halfway through the second stage set him back as he ultimately went on to finish 14th.

After an off weekend to celebrate the Easter Holiday, NASCAR returns to competition this weekend with the NASCAR XFINITY and NASCAR Cup Series running under the lights at Martinsville Speedway. The NASCAR XFINITY Series kicks things off at 8 p.m. on Friday while the Cup Series follows on Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. green flag start.

FORD AND TEAM PENSKE GOING FOR THREE STRAIGHT CUP WINS

Back-to-back NASCAR Cup Series victories by Ryan Blaney (Atlanta) and Joey Logano (Bristol Dirt) has vaulted Ford into the lead for most wins by a manufacturer to start the 2021 season. Ford now has three wins overall while Chevrolet and Toyota have two apiece. The last time a pair of drivers from the same organization won consecutive Cup events for Ford was last season when Kevin Harvick won at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Stewart-Haas teammate Cole Custer followed with his first series win at Kentucky Motor Speedway. A win at Martinsville this weekend by Brad Keselowski would mark the first time one Ford organization has won three straight races with three different drivers.

LOGANO AND KESELOWSKI TIED ON ALL-TIME FORD WIN LIST

Logano’s victory on the Bristol dirt was his 27th career NASCAR Cup Series triumph and 25th since joining Ford and Team Penske in 2013. Those 25 wins tie him with teammate Brad Keselowski for eighth on the all-time Ford Cup Series win list. They’re next victory will tie them with NASCAR Hall of Famers Fred Lorenzen and Junior Johnson, who each won 26 times with the Blue Oval. Ford’s all-time leader is Ned Jarrett with 43 while Bill Elliott (40), Mark Martin (35), Dale Jarrett (30) and David Pearson (29) round out the top five.

MARTINSVILLE TURNAROUND

Martinsville Speedway has not historically been Ford’s best track, but that has changed the past few seasons. After enduring a 28-race winless drought at NASCAR’s oldest track, Ford goes into Saturday’s event having won four of the last eight overall. That includes a sweep in 2018 when Clint Bowyer and Joey Logano found their way to Victory Lane, marking the first time Ford captured both NASCAR Cup Series races in the same season since 2001. Brad Keselowski continued Ford’s hot streak when he won the spring race in 2019.

Martinsville Highlights

BOWYER NETS FIRST FORD WIN

Clint Bowyer snapped a 190-race winless stretch by leading the final 114 laps to win the weather-delayed STP 500 in 2018. The win was Bowyer’s first with Ford and ninth of his career. He passed Ryan Blaney on lap 285 to gain the lead for the first time, and when Jamie McMurray brought out the caution 100 laps later after hitting the wall, Bowyer’s pit crew got him back out with the lead and that proved to be the difference. That capped a big day for Ford, which had five drivers finish in the Top 10 and saw Blaney win Stage 2.

LOGANO PUNCHES CHAMPIONSHIP 4 TICKET

When NASCAR came to Martinsville in 2018 for the Round of 8 opener, Joey Logano emerged with an automatic berth into the Championship 4 after a dramatic final lap battle with Martin Truex Jr. Logano, who has five poles at the track, was dominant all day as he led a race-high 309 laps, but Truex challenged and took the lead on the final lap. Logano used his bumper to get inside Truex coming off turn four and the two ended up banging doors to the checkered flag with Logano narrowly beating him and Denny Hamlin.

KESELOWSKI WINS FIRST CLOCK

Brad Keselowski outdueled Kyle Busch down the stretch to win his first grandfather clock after capturing the STP 500 on Apr. 2, 2017. The two drivers waged a memorable battle that saw them swap the lead five times in the last 160 laps, but Keselowski ended up making the decisive pass on lap 458 and led the final 43 circuits to become the first repeat winner in 2017. Prior to winning at Martinsville, Keselowski took the checkered flag at Atlanta in the second race of the season.

A FIRST FOR FRED

The first time Ford won a NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway also marked the first career victory for 2015 NASCAR Hall of Famer Fred Lorenzen. The date was April 9, 1961 and Lorenzen battled Rex White, who led the first 118 laps after starting on the pole. Lorenzen, driving for Holman-Moody at the time, grabbed the lead on lap 119 and held it until rain came ending the race prematurely after 149 circuits. Little did anyone know that 54 years later both men would be enshrined into the NASCAR Hall of Fame as part of the same induction class. Martinsville was a place Lorenzen dominated, winning six times, including four straight from 1963-65. He was absolutely unbeatable in 1964 as he led 990 out of a possible 1,000 laps (487 in the first and 493 in the second) in winning both races.

CRAVEN WINS FIRST CUP RACE

Ricky Craven outlasted Dale Jarrett over the final laps to post the first victory of his NASCAR Cup Series career on Oct. 15, 2001 at Martinsville Speedway. Pit strategy played a key role in this race as Jarrett opted for four tires on his final stop while Craven just got two. That enabled Craven to build a lead following the ensuing restart with 17 to go, but Jarrett gained ground and found himself in position to win on the final lap. That’s when Jarrett went to the outside going into turn one and got side-by-side with Craven coming off turn two. Both Fords made contact door-to-door entering turn three, but Craven emerged off four with the advantage and took the checkered flag.

RUDD ROUGHS IT OUT

No driver displayed more toughness during his career than Ricky Rudd and that was evident again in 1998 when the Virginia native endured burns on his backside to win the NAPA Autocare 500 on Sept. 27. On a day that saw temperatures in the mid-nineties, Rudd found himself in a bad way just five laps into the race when his cooling unit failed. As the cockpit got hotter he asked to have a relief driver standing by, so Hut Stricklin was in the pit area ready to takeover. Ice packs helped momentarily, but his back was blistering so the team tried to cool him off with a hose. Unfortunately, the hose they used had been lying in the sun, so when they doused him the first time the water was hot. That method worked better on later stops, but in the end it was Rudd who toughed it out and led the final 96 laps to win and extend his streak to 16 consecutive seasons with at least one NASCAR Cup Series win.

BUSCH BEATS BENSON

When Kurt Busch won at Martinsville Speedway was on Oct. 20, 2002 he set a track record for winning from the furthest starting position after taking the green flag in 36th-place. It took him all day to eventually get to the front of the field, but he took the lead on lap 389 and surrendered it for only one lap to Johnny Benson the rest of the way in posting his second career win. Benson was all over Busch’s bumper in the closing laps as lap traffic created plenty of drama, but Busch was able to weave his way through and take the checkered flag.

NTT INDYCAR SERIES Renews Global Broadcast Reach in 2021

INDIANAPOLIS (Tuesday, April 6, 2021) – A robust lineup of international broadcast partnerships will help deliver the NTT INDYCAR SERIES to a growing global audience in 2021. A series of renewals and expanded broadcast and streaming relationships will bring the stars of North America’s premier open-wheel racing series to many markets across Europe, Asia and more.

Existing and renewal partnerships will bring the action of the series and its defiant athletes to Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the Nordic countries, Latin America, Portugal, Russia, South Africa, sub-Saharan Africa, Spain, the United Kingdom and Vietnam. New broadcast partners in other nations and regions will be announced soon.

Coverage also will increase in some nations, such as Australia, where Fox Sports Australia and Kayo will broadcast practices, qualifying and live telecasts of every race to fans eager to follow Australian Will Power and three-time Australian V8 Supercars champion Scott McLaughlin of New Zealand.

Sky Sport will continue to be the broadcast partner in New Zealand, focusing on Kiwi sporting legend and six-time series champion Scott Dixon of Chip Ganassi Racing.

“The new commitment is massive,” Team Penske rookie McLaughlin said. “I have a lot of support back home and not only for myself but for Will Power and Scott Dixon. For our friends and fans to see every session is fantastic. It’s going to be awesome.”

Canada’s Sportsnet returns to televise the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, putting Canadians James Hinchcliffe of Andretti Steinbrenner Autosport and Dalton Kellett of AJ Foyt Racing into the spotlight.

“The support we’ve had from Canada has been incredible,” Toronto native Hinchcliffe said. “The fans are passionate. They’ll be excited to know where they’ll be able to watch the NTT INDYCAR SERIES this year.”

GAORA SPORTS will continue coverage in Japan, which has a passionate INDYCAR fanbase that follows reigning and two-time Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge winner Takuma Sato of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.

“Our fans have always wanted to have more information,” Sato said. “GAORA offers such great support. I’m really grateful.”

France’s CANAL+, the Netherlands’ Ziggo Sport and Viaplay in the Nordic countries also are back to support their countrymen competing in the series.

“It’s hard for fans in the Netherlands to follow the series without Ziggo Sport,” said Netherlands native and 2020 NTT INDYCAR SERIES Rookie of the Year Rinus VeeKay of Ed Carpenter Racing. “I can really see the interest grow. It’s great and convenient for all of the fans back home.”

Said Swedish driver Felix Rosenqvist, who competes for Arrow McLaren SP: “We have a lot of INDYCAR fans in Sweden ever since Kenny Brack drove (1996-2005). You can really see that interest is waking back up when Marcus (Ericsson) and I joined the series. Viaplay has a good platform and good commentary, and it’s crucial for young drivers to help grow the passion in our country.”

Sky Sports F1 will televise the NTT INDYCAR SERIES in the United Kingdom, a hotbed of passionate racing fans.

VETMotorsports and Texas A&M’s Reveille Racing are working together to honor and empower veterans through the Indy Autonomous Challenge this October.

March 25, 2021, College Station, TX USA: Texas A&M University’s Reveille Racing and VETMotorsports are pleased to announce a collaboration in the Indy Autonomous Challenge competition that is scheduled for October 23, 2021, at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway. By working together, Reveille Racing is hoping to bring more awareness of the work done by VETMotorsports in helping veterans with physical and emotional wounds.

The Indy Autonomous Challenge is a $1.5 million dollar prize competition to win the world’s first head-to-head, high-speed autonomous race at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The teams will race a modified Dallara IL-15 Indy Car at speeds up to 185 MPH fully autonomously in a 20-lap race on October 23, 2021. The race is co-organized by Energy Systems Network (ESN), the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, with the support of Clemson University IU-CAR, Dallara, and the Juncos Racing Team.

Lance Decker is Reveille Racing’s project manager as well as a Pat Tillman Foundation Scholar and Dwight D Eisenhower Transportation Research Fellow studying at Texas A&M. “I really believe that the strength of our nation lies on the shoulders of veterans, and we really owe it to them to help soothe the pain they face day in and day out from their service to our nation,” says Decker. “We hope that this partnership with VETMotorsports will bring new supporters to them and show how clearly they are helping veterans.”

Motul goes off road enduro in partnership with FIM ISDE

The FIM is delighted to announce that Motul has become one the main partners of the FIM International Six Days of Enduro (ISDE). The agreement with the French lubricant company is for an initial two year period and also sees them hold Lubricant and Maintenance exclusivity at the event. The newly signed deal, with what remains the oldest event in the FIM calendar, will see Motul fully launch into the Enduro off-road segment, complementing its existing involvements in the Dakar amongst other all-terrain events and its partnership with the off-road bike manufacturer Sherco.

Only a year ago Motul signed a global partnership deal with the fast-growing, exciting and championship-winning bike manufacturer, Sherco, which also encompasses its racing activities. Motul and Sherco will offer a wide range of support services during the ISDE to around twenty privateer bikers from around the world plus, of course, support for the official factory team riders in their respective national teams.

The 2021 edition of the FIM ISDE will take place in the Apennine region of Northern Italy between Lombardy and Piedmont from 30th August to 4th September. The crème de la crème of enduro riders will travel over punishing off-road surfaces through the Italian countryside before ending with The Final Motocross on the Tazio Nuvolari Circuit, south of Milan. The total length of the course, including special tests, will be approximately one thousand kilometres and the riders will do one lap each day, some of which will be time checked.

Motul will be playing a leading role in this iconic event, and both competitors and fans will enjoy a major activation programme onsite as well as following all the action and excitement digitally through Motul’s social media platforms. The highly recognisable Motul Racing Lab truck will be on site offering oil analysis and free advice to riders, just as it does on the Dakar. Customers and Motul Ambassadors will be also present from different parts of the world.

Enduro racing is hard in every sense! There are long stages, often over sun-baked, rock-hard terrain or in dusty valleys, and temperatures can soar. Keeping both bike and rider moving smoothly is therefore a key component on the route to success. The Most Important Spring Cleaning Tips For Racing Cars You Need To Know

Once the tough winter season is over, you need to give your racing car some tender loving care. That’s because its exterior has undergone quite a beating from the freezing temperatures and salt, on top of the usual wear and tear. Likewise, its interior is most likely to have been bombarded with ice and slush. 

Spring is the perfect time to bring back your pride and glory to its former beauty. It deserves the attention that it gave you on the tracks. Every spring, you must take the time to tune and rev up your car to ensure it is ready for the racing season ahead. With that in mind, here are the best spring cleaning tips for racing cars that you can do at the comforts of your home. 

Gather Your Tools

The first thing you want to do is to assemble all the supplies and tools you’ll need to thoroughly clean your car. These include a pressure washer, a vacuum cleaner, microfiber towels, a variety of sponges, and rags. To get the job done, you’ll also need various liquids for auto detailing:

  • Wash shampoo and conditioner
  • Interior and exterior detailers
  • Wax liquid
  • Tire cleaner
  • Rim cleaner
  • Foam applicator
  • Lubricator

The two-bucket technique is usually used when car washing, wherein one bucket contains a water and soap mixture, and the other is solely used for rinsing a wash mitt. Although this is a good method, it can eat up a lot of your time. If you want to save time, electric pressure washers are the way to go. Not only do these devices will make the car shine, but they are also more efficient and can get rid of even the toughest of dirt.

Get Rid Of Interior Debris

Check the truck and interior of your car and remove any garbage you’ve left behind. Open the center console to see if there is residual trash in the in-door storage and glove box compartments. Make sure that all nooks and crannies of your car are cleaned and only leave important things in there such as a flashlight and required documentation. 

Before putting things back to their respective places, wipe all the compartments down with a microfiber towel and interior detailer. Then, wipe the dashboard down using a special cleaner, as well as the storage areas, center stack, and instrument panel. 

Check Underneath The Seats

Wax The Exterior Of Your Car

Washing your car’s exterior is good to remove any corrosive salt from its body. However, do not forget to polish to finish it. Although you don’t have to wax the outside of your car all the time, it is advisable to do it at least once or twice a year, especially during spring. After all, wax presents numerous benefits, which includes:

Change Oil

Rotate Your Tires

Blasting these off with a pressure washer is the best way to go about it.

Courtney Crone, 20, Receives 23rd Gorsline Scholarship Award

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (April 5, 2021) – Courtney Crone, of Corona, Calif., was presented the 23rd Gorsline Scholarship by John Gorsline in March during a Race Industry Now Webcast presented by EPARTRADE and RACER. The previous scholarship was awarded in 2016 to Dylan Murry.

At only 20 years of age, Crone’s auto racing career is already in its 17th season. She is currently competing in IMSA’s Prototype Challenge in an LMP3 prototype fielded by Forty7 Motorsports.

Crone began racing go-karts at the age of 4, then gradually evolved to quarter midgets, motorcycles and formula cars. She was a candidate for the Team USA Scholarship to contest the Formula Ford Festival and the Walter Hayes Trophy Race in the UK, and in 2016, 2017 and 2018 was a recipient of a Women’s Motorsports Foundation Project Podium scholarship. Crone also won the VMB Driver Development Scholarship shoot-out in 2017 and 2018 and drove Steve Brisentine’s Formula Speed 2.0 in the Formula Car Challenge Series for two seasons.

“Receiving the Gorsline Company Scholarship is a great honor,” said Crone. “Being in the company of the past recipients is an extra push for me to know that I can make it to the top with a lot of focus, and some luck. I am grateful to John and the entire Gorsline Company for choosing me as the 2021 recipient.”

The benefits of the scholarship for Crone include working with Dr. Jacques Dallaire, Director of Performance Prime, on an individually-designed performance-enhancement program, and with Jim Leo on a unique training program at Jim Leo’s PitFit Training – all courtesy of Gorsline Company.

“It’s hard to believe that Courtney, who’s only 20 years old, already has more than 16 years of experience in racing,” said Gorsline. “She represents the type of person – an ambitious and capable race-car driver – that Gorsline Company has been supporting since 1994 with the Gorsline Scholarship. I’m confident she’ll benefit even more than what she’s already experienced on the race track from these training programs.”

“I believe the programs will allow me to further my career not just in the car, but outside of the car for many years to come,” said Crone. “The knowledge that will come from both Jim Leo and Jacques Dallaire will enable me extract the most out of myself mentally and physically while racing, and that is just what I need to succeed.”

As for her goals in the future, “My goals for the future are simple: make it to the top level of motorsports whether it be in IMSA or IndyCar,” she said. “My big goal will always be to win the Indianapolis 500. But, after having my eyes opened to the world of IMSA, as long as I can stay within those two paddocks, I will be very happy. And, just because they are simple, does not make either of them any easier.”
