OUR MOTORSPORTS: Weekly Race Advance – Atlanta

Our Motorsports looks to Atlanta Motor Speedway for the sixth race of the 2021 NASCAR Xfinity Series season. The 1.5-mile speedway is located just south of Atlanta in Hampton, Georgia.

Brett Moffitt and the No.02 FR8 Auctions Team

Brett Moffitt will be on the back-half of a doubleheader as he is also competing in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race less than 3 hours before taking the green in his red, white, and blue FR8 Auctions No.02 Chevy. This will be Moffitt’s second start at Atlanta in the NASCAR Xfinity Series – he finished 14th at the 1.5-mile oval last year. The No.02 team enters the weekend ninth in owners’ points standings.

Fr8 Auctions is a wholesale business that has been around for over 15 years. Located in Lithia Springs, GA, Fr8 Auctions strives to provide fair and honest treatment to all. They are the largest freight auction service in the state of Georgia and support numerous charities like #BraveLikeWyatt and the Wounded Warrior Project.

Driver Brett Moffit

“First off, I’m really happy to have FR8 Auctions back on board with me this weekend! This is a home race for them and they’ve been a longtime supporter of me and my career, so we want to do all we can to give them a good run this weekend. It’ll be a challenging day running both races back to back, but I’m sure I’ll be able to take a lot of knowledge from the Truck race to our Xfinity program. We’ve had some great runs and great cars this year and we want to get back into the top-5 and hopefully contend for a win.”

Blaine Perkins and the No.23 Raceline Wheels / Martin Truex Jr. Foundation team:

This week, Blaine Perkins returns to the No.23 Raceline Wheels / Martin Truex Jr. Foundation Chevy for his second race in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Perkins finished 24th in his debut last Saturday at Phoenix Raceway after starting 28th.

Raceline Wheels is a market leader in the design and manufacturing of wheels for off-road, street, and track use. The Martin Truex Jr. Foundation focuses on programs to generate awareness and funding for childhood and ovarian cancers.

Driver Blaine Perkins:

“I’m really excited to head to Atlanta this weekend and be able to build off of what we had in Phoenix. It will be another learning experience for myself going to a 1.5-mile racetrack that has so much tire fall off, but I’ve been watching previous races to prepare myself for Saturday. I’m really grateful to have Raceline Wheels and the Martin Truex Jr Foundation onboard our #23 Our Motorsports Chevy again for this weekend’s race and am looking forward to getting them up front!”

Past Results at Atlanta for Our Motorsports:

Last year, Moffit piloted the No.02 in Atlanta. The team earned a 14th place finish in the June event after starting 13th.

Tune in: Tune in for the “EchoPark 250” at Atlanta Motor Speedway this Saturday to watch the Our Motorsports team compete. Fans can catch the action on FS1, PRN/Sirius XM NASCAR, and other local radio affiliates at 5pm ET and by following Our Motorsports on social media.

Portland’s iconic Rose Cup Races returns this July to celebrate 60 years with a series of celebrations

PORTLAND, Ore—( March 16, 2021 )—Following an unprecedented one-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Portland’s iconic Rose Cup Races has announced it will return this summer to celebrate 60 years of high-speed racing. The Rose Cup Races will take place July 9—11 at Portland International Raceway (PIR). Auto enthusiasts and their friends and family will enjoy seven different race groups—including a return of Karts—as well as special salutes to the cars, drivers, and stories compiled since 1961. Gates open at 7:30 a.m. daily, with cars on course by 9 a.m.; races run until late afternoon. Admission ranges from $5 to $30; tickets will go on sale later this spring at RoseCup.com.

Originally a Portland Rose Festival event and now presented by Friends of PIR, the Rose Cup Races was the first major event ever held at PIR in 1961 and has taken place annually ever since, with the exception of 2020. The event features amateur racing competitors from both the Oregon Region Sports Car Club of America and the Cascade Sports Car Club. This year offers seven race groups, including The Crossflow Cup, a series for Historic Formula Fords that features big fields and hard clean racing. The full lineup of race groups includes:

  • Big Bore FOPIR Rose Cup Feature Race: Large displacement engine cars like Corvettes, Camaros, Mustangs, Shelby GT350s, Cobras, and Porsches. Four classes within one race called RC1, RC2, RC3, and RC4, depending on performance level.
  • Vintage: A Rose Cup Races tradition with a wide variety of brands and iconic models that will have fans reminiscing about their favorite cars growing up.
  • Spec Racer Ford: Open cockpit identical sports racer cars powered by 1.6-liter Ford engines put the focus on the drivers in this highly competitive group, with multiple lead changes per lap a common occurrence.
  • Small Bore Production: Small displacement engine cars from Nissan, Honda, Ford, Austin Healy, Mazda, Alfa Romeo, MG, and more. Four classes within one race called SB1, SB2, SB3, and SB4 depending on the performance level.
  • Spec Miata: Famous for tight battles and finishes that are just inches apart, these Mazda Miatas are also in a fight for a season-long championship in the Northwest Spec Miata Tour.
  • Formula Ford: Formula Ford has been a class since the mid-1960s when it was a stepping stone for many Formula One drivers. Now it is one of the premier vintage racing groups, often with 30 or more beautifully prepared cars turning up at events. Many of the Formula Fords racing at the 2021 Rose Cup will be taking part in the Crossflow Cup series.
  • Karts: Rounding out the seventh race group is the Portland Karting Association. Road racing karts are super quick with very close racing and are the prime entry point for road racers’ careers around the world.

Fans can look forward to practice and qualifying on Friday, July 9; additional qualifying and races on Saturday, July 10; and a full day of featured races on Sunday, July 11. Bridge City Autosports will run an autocross all three days of the event in the north paddock, where fans can watch the thrill and adrenaline of pushing cars to their limits. Beyond racing, look for a visual display of Rose Cup Races history alongside a Vanport history exhibit; car club corrals; car club parades; and numerous vendors.

ADMISSION/PARKING

Admission costs $30 for a three-day ticket with inside parking. Single-day tickets run $5 for Friday, $10 for Saturday, and $15 for Sunday. Admission for children ages 12 and under is free when accompanied by a paying adult. Present and past members of the military receive free admission (with valid ID checked at the gate).

Parking costs $5 for a single day, $10 for a weekend pass, and $140 for a motorhome pass that includes two three-day admission tickets. Sean Creech Motorsport Sets Sights on Sebring Podium

SEBRING, Fla. (19 March 2021) – In the second of two consecutive home races, the Sean Creech Motorsport (SCM) team managed rapidly changing conditions to put its No. 33 SCM Exelixis Ligier JS P320 into sixth position on the starting grid for Saturday’s 69th Annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring (Saturday, NBCSN, 10:00am ET).

Coming off a second-place finish in January’s Rolex 24 At Daytona, the SCM team is focused on reaching that top podium step at Sebring in the first points-paying event of the 2021 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

Three practice sessions on Thursday gave drivers João Barbosa, Lance Willsey and Sebring first-timer Yann Clairay the chance to develop the race setup through the shifting conditions presented during morning, afternoon and night practice. The extreme heat that made track grip levels so difficult in practice was gone by Friday, as was the rain that had pummeled the track overnight.

With track and ambient temperatures in the low 70s, Willsey took the wheel for the 15-minute qualifying session. At the end of seven laps, he had set his quickest lap time of the weekend at 1:58.991 and placed the No. 33 Ligier sixth on the starting grid. Preparing for only his second 12-hour race at Sebring, Willsey felt that the car the team put on the track today is ready to go the distance.

“The car is very easy to drive and very consistent,” said Willsey. “That said, I take no pride in qualifying sixth! But we tried a lot of things yesterday and amalgamated the things that worked, so we have a really good car going into the race. I have the upmost faith in my co-drivers so I’m confident we’ll be able to fight for the front.

“But this race places just as great of an emphasis on the crew as the driver. The track is very demanding on the car, with all the surface transitions and different types of corners. We ask a lot of the car, so setup makes all the difference. If the car can’t make it 12 hours, or is hard to drive, that’s your race. So good crew, engineer and strategist calls are vital. For the drivers, we have to be smart and manage the calculated risks. You have to make the right calls and execute them perfectly, because anything less than perfection here is trouble.”

As a two-time Sebring 12 Hour winner (2012, 2015), Barbosa knows exactly what it takes to win the grueling endurance classic.

“It’s the same mentality as Daytona: survive the first hours of the race,” said Barbosa. “Sebring is much tighter than Daytona, so there are fewer opportunities to overtake, which means there is more risk involved in traffic. It’s also important to have a car that works well in the heat of the day but even better at night, so that’s one of the major challenges we have ahead of us. But staying out of trouble will be the priority for everybody.”

Clairay completed his first laps on the 3.74-mile Sebring circuit on Thursday, but feels that he is ready for the task ahead.

“It’s a crazy track!” said Clairay. “Very different from tracks in Europe, with the pavement changes. But I’m happy with my times. It’s a good car for me, so I just need a few more laps to be completely comfortable. I’ve got the reference points down after yesterday’s practice sessions. It’s a long race, and this is a very physical track, so having a comfortable car under you is very important. Key will be to keep the car on the track and make no mistakes.”

For team principal Sean Creech, whose team won the IMSA Prototype Challenge race at Sebring last weekend in the LMP3-2 class, having a car comfortable to drive was the first order of business.

“It went well,” said Creech. “Lance drove his quickest lap of the weekend and the car was more comfortable to drive. We’ll try a few more changes for morning warm up, just to try a few things, but as Lance said at the end of the session, it’s a good car. It gives the drivers plenty of confidence to go out there for 12 hours.”

The 69th Annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Presented by Advance Auto Parts takes the green flag Saturday, March 20 at 10:10 a.m. Eastern. The race will be broadcast live in the U.S. on the NBC stations listed below and on NBC Sports Gold’s TRACKPASS, while international viewers can watch via IMSA.tv. IMSA Radio will also be available at IMSA.com.

CORVETTE RACING AT SEBRING: Garcia Leads Corvette 1-2 in GTLM Qualifying

CORVETTE RACING AT SEBRING: Garcia Leads Corvette 1-2
Milner second in ultra-close GTLM qualifying between two Corvette C8.Rs

SEBRING, Fla. (March 19, 2021) – Antonio Garcia put Corvette Racing on the GT Le Mans (GTLM) pole position Friday for the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring presented by Advance Auto Parts as the team looks to continue its strong opening to the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

Garcia, driving the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C8.R, set a GTLM record with a 1:54.910 (117.169 mph) around the 3.74-mile, 17-turn circuit for Saturday’s race in central Florida. He was a sliver quicker – by just 0.034 seconds – than teammate Tommy Milner in the No. 4 Corvette. His time was a 1:54.944 (117.135 mph).

Garcia was the GTLM pole-winner for November’s rescheduled 2020 Sebring 12 Hours, and he shared the GTLM Drivers Championship with teammate Jordan Taylor. The pairing, along with Nicky Catsburg, won the Rolex 24 At Daytona to open the 2021 season.

Milner, Nick Tandy and Alexander Sims were second at the Rolex but were the GTLM pole-sitters there. Milner also won a two-hour, 40-minute sprint race at Sebring in July with Oliver Gavin.

Corvette Racing and Chevrolet sit 1-2 in the early-season GTLM points standings. The No. 3 Corvette group leads over the No. 4 C8.R in full-season points, but the positions are switched in the Michelin Endurance Cup. The four-race championship is made of IMSA’s four long-distance races with Milner, Tandy and Sims claiming the most points at the pre-determined marks of the Rolex 24. Sebring serves as the second round of the MEC.

All signs point toward Corvette Racing contending for its 13th victory at Sebring International Raceway and 12th in the annual 12-hour enduro. The program’s last two Rolex 24 victories in 2015 and 2016 led to race wins at Sebring only weeks later.

The mid-engine C8.R and Corvette Stingray street car were developed simultaneously, and the race car and production vehicle share more technology and parts than any previous-generation Corvette. When initial Corvette C8.R design and development work began more than six years ago, Corvette Racing engineers worked closely alongside Corvette production personnel with a heavy emphasis on wind tunnel and simulation testing.

The Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. ET on Saturday. The race will air on NBCSN from 10 a.m.-noon and 7-10:30 p.m. ET. The full race will be streamed on TrackPass via NBC Sports Gold and the NBC Sports App. IMSA Radio will air full qualifying and race coverage at IMSA.com along with Sirius 216, XM 392 and SiriusXM Online 992.

ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R – GTLM POLE-WINNER: “It was very stressful! We are not used to qualifying together with the GTD cars, so initially it was very difficult for us to gauge how much room you had to fall back in order not to catch them. It seemed like no matter how much we were back, we were still catching them. I knew Tommy was coming from behind me, so I couldn’t really open a gap; I didn’t want to bother him. The first attempt was really bad. The second one I thought I had enough gap but had to dive for a pass going into Turn 17. I knew it was a good lap, so I had to go for it. I’m very happy for Corvette. It’s always good to have Corvette Racing up there 1-2 even if it is a long race. Let’s see if we can keep those positions like we did at Daytona.”
ON QUALIFYING WITH GTD CARS: “We are just used to qualifying alone, so we need to get used to it. For the first race, it was a little bit of a shock for us because we didn’t know how to place ourselves on track not to interfere with them and for them to not interfere with us. That’s the key thing. They have 12-13 cars in that category so it’s always difficult around Sebring anyway. When it comes to shorter races, I don’t know what’s going to happen. Sebring is a long track. I think we all more or less got a clean lap but for sure it was stressful.”
TELL US ABOUT THE POLE RUN WHICH IS A NEW TRACK RECORD AND BEING BACK WITH JORDAN AND NICKY AFTER WINNING THE ROLEX 24: “It is always good to be back at Sebring and always special to do qualifying with lighter tanks and going for it. I really enjoy doing that even though with the new rules this year we are sharing the track with the GTD category, so that brings a little more excitement into the qualifying because you need to place yourself in the right position not to catch them. It was very stressful and I didn’t know what the gap would be between the two categories. On my fast lap, I had to pass a car into (Turn) 17 but it didn’t seem to disturb me too much. I think it was (Earl) Bamber driving the other car. He didn’t block me or put me in a bad situation, so sorry if I destroyed his lap but I had to go. I’m pretty happy with that and a 1-2 for Corvette Racing. We will see if we can keep this for tomorrow’s race.”
DO YOU FEEL LIKE THERE IS UNFINISHED BUSINESS HERE FOR THE C8.R?
“I think so. Last year we were in position as we proved by setting the pole and then being up there fighting with the BMWs and Porsches. I think we had the pace at the end, but unfortunately we couldn’t fight for it. So tomorrow is just another race, and we need to focus on that… on trying to win this thing. It’s going to be tough as Sebring has always been. It’s different conditions. Hopefully it won’t be as hot as it was yesterday. Maybe things will be a tiny bit easier. We will go through all three different conditions – cooler at the beginning, then very hot, then cooler again at night. We just need to survive out there and then when it gets to the last two hours, it’s game on. Let’s see how it goes, and as you said, unfinished business from last year so let’s see if we can take home this one.”

TOMMY MILNER, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R – QUALIFIED SECOND IN GTLM: “We can’t be unhappy with first and second. To be that close and not having scored a pole in IMSA competition is frustrating! But the cars were obviously super-quick today. The competition is also close, too. It looks like we will have a pretty tough race tomorrow. It’s tough no matter what at Sebring, but when you have three other cars that are going to be competitive for the whole race, that makes it trickier. We still have a little work to do with car setup and get it as good as we can for the whole 12 hours. We’re starting from a good spot in terms of position on the track but from a comfort standpoint, we’re in a good place too. We’ll do a little more in the warmup, and we have 12 hours to make little tweaks and tunes as we need.”
EVOLUTION OF C8.R FROM FIRST TIME AT SEBRING IN 2020: “It’s hard to compare to our first time here. Every time we go to the track, the guys are taking lessons from data and from the simulator to improve things. If we went back to exactly how we ran for the first time here in February of last year, I’m sure the cars would feel significantly different. It’s being refined and evolving over time. Certainly we are going in the right direction.”

Wagner Becomes First Repeat Mazda MX-5 Cup Winner of 2021 at Sebring

SEBRING, Fla. (March 19, 2021) – Gresham Wagner (No. 5 Spark Performance) extended his Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich® Tires Championship point lead with a win in Round Four at Sebring International Raceway on Friday. Once again, the Mazda MX-5 Cup field put on another fantastic show as Wagner got the better of Michael Carter (No. 08 Carter Racing Enterprises) in the final turn of the final lap to get his second win of the season.

Starting third, Wagner had a great start and was around polesitter Sam Paley (No. 28 McCumbee McAleer Racing) by Turn Three.

Following the first of two full-course cautions, Wagner and Selin Rollan (No. 87 Hixon Motor Sports) worked together to pull away from the rest of the field. Behind them, Paley and Aaron Jeansonne (No. 24 Provision Motorsports) were battling for third at the front of the next six-car faction.

Approximately 10 minutes after the first restart, disaster struck Rollan: damage on his car punctured the right front tire. He fell back into the second pack of cars and got caught up in an incident between Jeansonne and Justin Piscitell (No. 89 McCumbee McAleer Racing) that nearly sent him into the tires. Piscitell didn’t get off as lightly and a second full-course caution was issued to remove his car from Turn 10.

“I had a lot of pressure at the start and was just trying to build a lead and get a little bit of padding to the guys behind,” Wagner said. “The yellows kind of just disrupt that momentum when you are in a groove and have built up a breakaway- it’s a bit disheartening when it all gets packed up again, especially that final caution.”

The second full-course yellow gave Round Three winner Rollan the time to get on pit lane and change the flat tire, but he still returned to the track at the back of the pack.

When the 45-minute race restarted for the second time, Carter was Wagner’s new dance partner out front. The pair had just five minutes to settle who would win.

“I didn’t know what to expect (on the restart) because Michael (Carter) wasn’t up there for most of the race and I knew with the restart he was going to be hungry to get up there and try to get the win,” Wagner said.

Carter waited until the final corner of the last lap to make his move, but Wagner had his number. Carter ran too wide and Wagner was able to hold the inside and speed away to the checkered flag.

“He worked well with me to make it a showdown between just us two at the end and you know, it was going be a good finish, I think regardless of whether it’s him or if I got the win– so I’m a little bit happier that it was me across the line first! But overall it was great race and I’m happy we worked so well together again,” Wagner said.

“I didn’t even try to brake that deep going into Turn 17,” said Carter. “I knew what Gresham (Wagner) was going to do once I passed him. But the rear just got away from me and I just tried not to hit the wall.

“It was a good race but stressful when I got shuffled back,” said Carter. “I got punted in Turn Four, saved it, and brought it back out on track. I think on the restart I was 12th, so before that I was 15th – so 15th to second was still a pretty good result. Gresham drove a great race and I feel like these last two wins could have been mine, but we’ll go to St. Pete and get them there.”

After a disappointing result at Daytona, Bryan Ortiz (No. 4 Copeland Motorsports) was thrilled to complete the podium in third place. The 2019 Champion navigated the perils within the second group of cars with poise and lead them across the finish line.

“I ran the new car for one race last year, and it’s not that it’s different, there are just so many good guys that have been developing and testing with this car,” Ortiz said. “We’re like a year behind on that, but we are trying to get better.

“This weekend we just had bad luck in the first race,” Ortiz said. “Today we just picked off one car at a time and stuck with it. After the yellow flag, I knew where I was stronger and where the guys ahead were stronger, so I tried to make passes as soon as possible. The last lap was a battle. We touched, but it was a clean lap. I’m happy that we were able to bring it to the podium. We were frustrated early in the weekend because we knew that we could be up front, so to have this finish was really great.”

Jeansonne, the current MX-5 Cup Shootout winner, took home his best finish of the season so far in fourth, despite extensive bodywork damage to his car from the action inside that second group of cars.

Todd Buras (No. 95 Irish Mike’s Racing) completed the top five. Buras, who hasn’t raced in the MX-5 Cup series in nearly a decade, came from 17th on the grid and won the Hard Charger Award.

“I’m having a blast in the new generation MX-5 Cup car and I have to thank Irish Mike, Mike Flynn, the Flynn Family and my crew chief Jeff Linfert,” Buras said. “I have never driven one of these new cars and these guys have two or three years on us. After an hour and a half of adjusting, we started to figure it out. Today we started 17th and finished fifth. We ran some pretty good times.

“For a lot of guys this is a great starter series, you learn a lot of race craft here and you need the race craft because the cars are so equal. Mazda put together an amazing package and the BFGs are consistent from the out lap to the finish and the suspension is very adjustable – during the course of the run, the car doesn’t change much. It’s been 10 years since I ran these cars and it’s just the same.”

In the final five-minute dash to the finish, Rollan was able to claw his way back to ninth.

After four rounds, Wagner continues to lead the Championship by 120 points, provisionally, over Michael Carter. Rollan is another 10 points behind in third.

Next up for MX-5 Cup is Rounds Five and Six at the St. Petersburg Grand Prix, April 23 – 25. Both races will be streamed live on IMSA.com.

Rounds Three and Four from Sebring will air on NBCSN on April 1 at 3pm ET.

FOLDS OF HONOR QUIKTRIP 500
ATLANTA MOTOR SPEEDWAY
HAMPTON, GEORGIA
MARCH 21, 2021

RACE #6 – ATLANTA MOTOR SPEEDWAY
NASCAR’s three national series head back east this weekend for races on the 1.54-mile, 24-degree banked oval of Atlanta Motor Speedway. Chevrolet will aim for its 41st NASCAR Cup Series (NCS) victory at the track in the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500. FOX will telecast the 325-lap race at 3:00 p.m. ET Sunday, March 21.

Kurt Busch, No. 1 Monster Energy Camaro ZL1 1LE, is one of two active drivers with three victories (2002, 2009, 2010) at the racetrack that has hosted 113 NCS races since July 1960 and was the site of the season finale from 1987 to 2000. In 29 starts, Busch has collected 15 top-10 finishes and led 803 laps.

AJ Allmendinger, who won the NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) race at Atlanta Motor Speedway in 2020, will seek to take the checkered flag again in the 163-lap Echo Park 250 that will be telecast on FS1 at 5:00 p.m. ET Saturday, March 20. Allmendinger, who will start on the inside of Row 2 in the No. 16 Kaulig Racing Camaro SS, won the NXS race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway earlier this month. Brandon Brown, who posted a career-high third place at Phoenix Raceway last weekend, will start fourth in the No. 68 Brandonbilt Motorsports Camaro SS.

Chip Ganassi Racing Cup Series driver, Ross Chastain, will take on the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) in the F8Auctions 200, piloting the No. 44 Niece Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado. FS1 will telecast the 130-lap race at 2:30 p.m. ET Saturday, March 20.

FOUR IN THE TOP-10
Chevrolet leads all manufacturers with four drivers in the top-10 of the points standings. Kyle Larson and Georgia native, Chase Elliott, both have 179 points, just one point out of fourth place. Their Hendrick Motorsports’ teammate, William Byron, currently sits in the ninth position, while Chip Ganassi Racing’s, Kurt Busch, rounds out the top-10.

Larson, who won at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the No. 5 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE, is among just three drivers with four top-10 finishes in the five races. He has a career-best finish of second at Atlanta Motors Speedway came in 2017.

LESSON IN RESILIENCY
Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson and William Byron, who all had to start from the rear of the field at Phoenix, rallied to claim top-10 finishes. Larson, in particular, was resilient. After racing to eighth, he was sent to the rear of the lead lap because of a pit lane speed violation. He then weaved his way through the field to second, but again was assessed a pit lane speed violation. Larson again rose to second and eventually finished seventh.

ON THE WAY TO THE GREEN
With no practice or qualifying for the race, the starting lineup is determined by NASCAR’s metrics system that was introduced to the series last year and incorporates results from both individual races and season-long results.

Here are Team Chevy’s top-20 starters:
5th Chase Elliott, No. 9 NAPA Auto Parts Camaro ZL1 1LE
6th Kyle Larson, No. 5 HendrickCars.com Camaro ZL1 1LE
9th William Byron, No. 24 Liberty University Camaro ZL1 1LE
11th Kurt Busch, No. 1 Monster Energy Camaro ZL1 1LE
12th Ricky Stenhouse Jr., No. 47 Kroger Camaro ZL1 1LE
13th Austin Dillon, No. 3 Bass Pro Shops/Tracker Off Road Camaro ZL1 1LE

QUOTABLE QUOTES
KYLE LARSON, NO. 5 HENDRICKCARS.COM CAMARO ZL1 1LE – 5th IN STANDINGS
LARSON ON RACING AT ATLANTA:
“Atlanta is a fun place to race that many of us enjoy. The surface is so worn out that you have to manage your tires. The preferred line is the ‘Harvick’ line – on the bottom – and I’ve worked hard in the past to really get that line working in turns three and four. In turns one and two, you can run the top but it’s really hard on the tires. I’m looking forward to it because I think we’ll have a really fast car there.”

CLIFF DANIELS, CREW CHIEF, NO. 5 HENDRICKCARS.COM CAMARO ZL1 1LE
DANIELS ON THE CHALLENGES AT ATLANTA:
“Our focus is on setting up the car so that Kyle can run the line he wants to run – whether that is low or high or wherever in the turns. Another challenge there is tire wear and fall off. If you go one lap under green and then the caution comes out, everybody is probably putting on new tires. Hopefully, we don’t have so many cautions that you run out of tires. I don’t believe that will happen.”

DANIELS ON PREPARING FOR LATE-RACE PIT STOPS:
“Calling a race is a little bit difficult under green, especially if the run goes long at the end of the race. Do you try to short pit which will guarantee you gain track position? Late in the run with 10 to go or less, newer tires with fewer laps, even if just a couple, can show speed. While you may leapfrog some early in the run, they can get you back at the end of that run. The challenge is defending against the opposite decision you made.”

CHASE ELLIOTT, NO. 9 NAPA AUTO PARTS CAMARO ZL1 1LE – 6th IN STANDINGS
ELLIOTT ON THE CHALLENGING ATLANTA TRACK:
“Atlanta is definitely a tough place. The racetrack has a lot of wear to it – the surface is one of the oldest that we go to – so finding grip is a challenge. The track has a lot of character and is very line sensitive to where you can and can’t run to find that. You really have to hit your marks well in Atlanta to have success. I think the track conditions this weekend will be pretty similar to last year in a lot of ways. The No. 9 team and I have talked a lot about last year’s event. That’s how we are going about the set up for Sunday is from last year and taking things away from how we did, what we did good and what we can improve on.”

ELLIOTT ON RETURNING TO ATLANTA:
“It’s always nice to race in Atlanta. I’ve been racing here for a long time, raced a lot of legend cars and bandolero races here, so it’s a special place to me. Atlanta is just a fun track to come to. I think anywhere that you run three or four laps and the lap times have fallen off significantly like they are here all the time, I think that makes it fun. It makes it fun from a strategy standpoint.”

ALAN GUSTAFSON, CREW CHIEF, NO. 9 NAPA AUTO PARTS CAMARO ZL1 1LE
GUSTAFSON ON WHAT THE TEAM HAS LEARNED AT INTERMEDIATE TRACKS IN 2021:
“As we head to another 1.5-mile track, we learned some deficiencies we had at Homestead and are certainly going to improve on that. At Las Vegas our NAPA Chevy was really fast, but we just had some execution issues so we need to clean those up. I really like Atlanta; it has always been a fun track and super difficult to get a hold of. I think we can take some things from those first two intermediate tracks and some of our past experience at Atlanta and try to put our best foot forward on Sunday.”

GUSTAFSON ON RACING AT ATLANTA:
“We were at Atlanta in June last year and it was fairly sunny, it wasn’t a terribly hot day so I think that the hotter it is the less grip the track is going to have. I still think it will be a place that is difficult even though it is projected to be in the 60s when we are there. I think the truth is that it’s never the same no matter what you do. We could go race there a week later and it’s just never the same. You just have to piece together all the little experiences you have and ultimately try to hit on it.”

WILLIAM BYRON, NO. 24 LIBERTY UNIVERSITY CAMARO ZL1 1LE – 9th IN STANDINGS
BYRON ON HOW DIFFICULT IT IS TO RACE AT ATLANTA:
“Atlanta is just a tough track. It’s a little bit easier at this time of the year because it’s a bit cooler, but it’s not easy to run there ever by any means. You’re going to need to have a car that can do all the right things throughout the entire race. Luckily, I feel like this Sunday’s race will be similar to Homestead, and it gives us a good idea of what we need in our car. We can use past Atlanta notes and pair them with our Homestead notes from this year to, hopefully, continue this stretch of good runs we have going.”

BYRON ON THE TIRE FALL-OFF AT ALTANTA:
“You notice the tire fall-off really every corner at Atlanta. You may have a couple laps that the tires feel good, but after that with every corner you can feel the tires fall off and lose grip. It’s a challenge to keep the car straight at times. Add to that that you’re racing against other guys and if they take your lane away it becomes really hard to find another lane to be as fast in. It’s all really difficult to manage for that long of a period of time consistently.”

RUDY FUGLE, CREW CHIEF, NO. 24 LIBERTY UNIVERSITY CAMARO ZL1 1LE
FUGLE ON THE NO. 24 TEAM’S START TO 2021:
“I’m proud of what this team has accomplished so far this year. While we started off with a couple of hard races, we still had small victories along the way. This group never got down and worked on righting the ship to put together good solid races. Phoenix last week was a good example of that. It was just a solid mistake-free day all the way around. We need to continue to have more of those races and keep our foot on the gas.”

FUGLE ON RACING ATLANTA:
“Atlanta is a track that I have a lot of laps at. It’s a track that we use to test at with rookie drivers in the truck series, which has been the majority of my career. I feel like I have a really good idea of what we can expect the track to do, not only at this time of year, but also throughout the entirety of the race. With Atlanta having such an old, worn out surface, consistency will be key Sunday. We need to make sure not to abuse the tires early on and maintain track position at the same time. If you can manage the track and your tires throughout the run, you’ll pick up positions when other cars begin to struggle. We were able to do that at Homestead, so hopefully that carries over to this weekend’s race as well.”

AUSTIN DILLON, NO. 3 BASS PRO SHOPS/TRACKER OFF ROAD CAMARO ZL1 1LE – 12th IN STANDINGS
ATLANTA MOTOR SPEEDWAY IS ANOTHER TRACK WHERE THE ASPHALT THERE IS AMONG THE FAVORITE OF THE DRIVERS, AM I RIGHT?
“It’s old, but I’m glad they’ve kept it the same. It’s a place that drivers love because you know it’s going to be slick and over time you might be able to find some grip by moving around or changing your line and being disciplined with the throttle.”

ALEX BOWMAN, NO. 48 ALLY CAMARO ZL1 1LE – 17th IN STANDINGS
BOWMAN ON RACING AT ATLANTA:
“Atlanta is a fun track. We haven’t had the results there that we should have, but it is a track where I think we can be really strong. The track is one that you can move around a lot and tire management is going to be key on Sunday. Our intermediate program at Hendrick Motorsports is definitely a strong one and I think we have a good notebook going into this weekend’s race.”

GREG IVES, CREW CHIEF, NO. 48 ALLY CAMARO ZL1 1LE
IVES ON BOUNCING BACK AFTER A DIFFICULT RACE:
“You always wish there was something that would invert the field or something like that following a tough week. Ultimately, it is up to us to perform and to get those finishes and move up in the points. It is a gift that you definitely don’t want to open every week if it is on the bad side. You look at Daytona and getting wrecked while running second, having a flat left-rear at Vegas and then getting wrecked on whatever lap last week (at Phoenix). Some of those things are in our control and some of them aren’t. We have to stay focused on the positives, work on the negatives and move forward.”

ERIK JONES, NO. 43 PETTY’S GARAGE CAMARO ZL1 1LE – 23rd IN STANDINGS
THOUGHTS LOOKING AHEAD AT ATLANTA WITH YOUR PAST EXPERIENCE AT THE TRACK.
“Atlanta Motor Speedway is one of my favorite tracks with the way it wears out, how slick it is and how it wears out tires. I really enjoy that style of racing. It lends its hand to save some tire on the front side of a run and trying to be good on the second half of it. As a driver, that is fun. You want the options; you want the chance to go out and be better on old tires, be better than the guy in front of you and just manage your stuff better. That’s kind of the old-school feel of NASCAR for me, and how you grow up racing is managing that run and managing your tires to try and be there at the end of the race. I always look forward to the Atlanta race. It’s a really technical place for a 1.5-mile track and that’s what makes it fun.”

DANIEL SUAREZ, NO. 99 COMMSCOPE CAMARO ZL1 1LE – 24th IN STANDINGS
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON RACING AT ATLANTA MOTOR SPEEDWAY THIS WEEKEND?
“Atlanta is a lot of fun. I can’t even remember exactly what happened the last time we were there, but I love that place. It has a lot of character. It’s very difficult. It has a lot of bumps. It’s very rough on tires. Every driver is going to be screaming for grip and for downforce. But it’s a fun place. I really enjoy it a lot and I’m looking forward to going back.”

TYLER REDDICK, NO. 8 ALSCO UNIFORMS CAMARO ZL1 1LE – 27th IN STANDINGS
“Tires will be very important to having a successful race at Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend. Even with the downforce package we have, tires still remain as a key to this track due to the extremely worn-out surface. Last year, I was still getting a feel for a Cup car when we raced at Atlanta and thought I had a tire going down during the first Stage, so now that I know what that feels like I know what to watch out for. We had some handling issues during last year’s race too where our Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE would swing from being way too loose to way too tight, so my team has looked back at last year’s notes a lot this week to prepare and have a better handling No. 8 Alsco Uniforms Chevrolet this time around. I enjoy racing at Atlanta with its old track surface, so I’m excited for this weekend.”

COREY LAJOIE, NO. 7 NFL ALUMNI/FOLDS OF HONOR CAMARO ZL1 1LE- 29th IN STANDINGS
“Atlanta is the most worn-out track on the schedule, so it’s important the car is dialed in for the long runs. Our Crew Chief, Ryan Sparks, has a solid game plan together to get our NFL Alumni/Folds of Honor Camaro ZL1 1LE towards the front from a 30th starting position. The NFL Alumni does incredible work within their community. To have them integrate the Folds of Honor to support scholarship opportunities for veterans and their families is incredibly admirable. I’m proud to represent both organizations this weekend in the QuikTrip Folds of Honor 500.”

Fr8Auctions Gets Ready for “Gr8 Weekend” in Atlanta; McDowell Ready to Race and Use Daytona 500 Championship for Bigger Platform

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (March 19, 2021) – Fr8Auctions, the Atlanta-based Asset Liquidation Firm that auctions excess freight inventory, is preparing for their premier weekend on the NASCAR schedule. Fr8 Auctions will welcome the NASCAR Camping World, XFINITY and Cup Series to its home state. They will be the title sponsor of Saturday’s truck series race and Michael McDowell will take Fr8 Auctions center stage during Sunday’s Cup race, driving the No. 34 Fr8 Auctions/#BraveLikeWyatt Ford Mustang.

Fr8 Auctions has found success during these difficult times. The company partners with freight lines, distribution companies, and consumer product-based businesses to help sell excess, discontinued or damaged inventory outside of traditional distribution channels. Utilizing industry leading merchandising techniques, product presentations, and a competitive bidding environment, Fr8Auctions offers both their partners and buyers opportunities to maximize returns on their investments.

With over 1 million total square feet of space at their corporate headquarters, Fr8Auctions can support even the most robust demands of their customers. With COVID challenges in the market, buyers across the nation can now access online (sealed bid) auctions to bid on thousands of pallets of merchandise, which can range from gas grills, to ceiling fans, to cleaning products. Merchandise for each auction can also be previewed at its website.

Fr8 Auctions also found success in the NASCAR Cup Series when McDowell won the Daytona 500 to begin the season. Fr8 Auctions is a premier partner of the No. 34 Front Row Motorsports (FRM) program and has been a loyal partner to the organization. Bigger than that, Fr8 Auctions, FRM and McDowell also support the Be Your Own Hero Foundation with the hashtag #BraveLikeWyatt.

The Foundation was established in 2019 to honor the memory of Wyatt Hatcher, who loved life and superheroes. He was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome and had a heart transplant right before his second birthday. His heart transplant allowed him to enjoy life for nine more years. He fought cancer and won in 2019. Shortly after he was declared cancer free, it was found that the chemotherapy medication had damaged his donor heart. Wyatt lost his fight in January of 2020 and is loved and missed every single day. Brave Like Wyatt’s mission is to help ease the burden of families dealing with similar life circumstances by contributing to community resources, providing financial assistance for household bills, travel assistance and, when needed, funeral expenses.

With the success of the early season, McDowell wants to use his platform to continue to help others, especially the #BraveLikeWyatt cause.

“One advantage of winning the Daytona 500 is getting this bigger platform or reaching more people,” said McDowell. “Now, how do we take advantage of that? And it’s things like asking NASCAR fans to learn more about the Be Your Own Hero Foundation and learn more about Wyatt’s story. Fr8 Auctions is a great company, and the car looks ‘gr8’, but the efforts they put in to help families in hospital’s means more than all of that.

“I think it’s an honor and a blessing to be able to be in this position to help spread the news about the great works our partners are doing,” continued McDowell. “That’s where I see Fr8 Auctions taking the lead with their partnership. They use a lot of their car to promote #BraveLikeWyatt. I think that’s a big deal. So, the more we can get the car out in front of the fans, the better. The more people will go to the site and think about making a donation.

“Yeah, I want to win more races and I really want to win another Daytona 500,” concluded McDowell. All that is great, but when you can change lives and help others, that’s pretty special. So, hopefully we can get a lot of TV time this weekend or some more people can post about #BraveLikeWyatt on their social media pages. We can all come together and make a difference.”
