How to Organize a Successful Motorsport Event

Photo by vikram sundaramoorthy from Pexels

Organizing a motorsport event is easier said than done. It’s tough reaching the expectations of motorsport fans as they are some energetic people. You have to make sure that the event is hyped up enough to keep them interested from the beginning till the end of the event. With such an ecstatic group of people, what does it mean to organize a successful motorsport event anyway?

For starters, it’s not enough to have the tickets sold out for the event. You must also ensure that all of the fans leaving the event venue are happy and satisfied with the time they had at the event. If you’re thinking about organizing one for the community, then here are some of the things you need to consider doing.

Set the tone with design

It’s not just the program that makes a motorsport event great, it’s also the mood and feel set by the arena. You’ll need to put in place the appropriate arena signs and graphics to help your visitors understand the emotion that you want to convey. When your visitors enter the location of the venue, it’s not the motorbikes or cars they’re going to see first, it’s the place they’re going to have to be welcomed with.

As they say, ‘first impressions last.’ It is a must that you make your first impression count by decorating the venue with the appropriate design. You need to keep the theme in mind during the designing process. The purpose of the design isn’t just to make the place look and feel great, it’s also to hype up the fans.

Most importantly, keep in mind that your fans are going to take photos of themselves, the event, and the event location. They’ll post these photos on social media. If your setup looks great, that’s definitely going to benefit you later on as your event goes viral on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. Who knows, you might get more visitors at the next event.

Ready medical support

An often overlooked but completely necessary part of any event is medical support. Accidents are unpredictable and it could happen anytime. If one happens at your event and there is no medical team to respond to the situation, then you’ve got a lawsuit on your hands. What you should be really worried about, however, is the health and safety of your visitors. This study we found at ResearchGate details the need for adequate medical support. This is a challenging part of event organizing. One of the major issues is that your medical team could be handling too many requests for aid. As such, it is vital to not only have a good medical team, it is a must to have a large one as well.

A small medical team will find it hard to help everyone at the event. It’s also advisable to split the medical team into two – one dedicated to helping the athletes and another dedicated to helping your visitors. This way, it’s guaranteed that there’s always someone ready to respond in the case of an emergency. You should also make sure the area has clearly marked stations equipped with a public access trauma (PAcT) first aid kit to handle emergencies quickly and effectively. These stations give both medical staff and bystanders the tools they need to respond before paramedics arrive.

Market aggressively

Even the most devoted motorsport fan isn’t going to be at your event if he isn’t aware of it. To let others know about your event, you need to start an aggressive marketing campaign. Luckily, there are various platforms you can use to reach out to people on a global scale. For your event, we highly suggest taking the fight to social media. Social media platforms like Facebook are a treasure trove for potential visitors. It will help you generate enough hype for your event that will get many people interested. To begin with, you might want to create a dedicated page, as well as an event page for your upcoming motorsport event.

This will help people become more aware of the event. What’s good about Facebook as a social media platform is that it allows you to find groups that could be interested in what you’re offering. What we’re saying is that you can easily reach out to a group dedicated to motorsport fans on the platform.

Don’t limit yourself to social media marketing though. You can do email marketing as well. For the surrounding area at the location of the event, we highly suggest contacting the local newspaper or radio station for support. You can also begin posting up posters and billboards teasing the upcoming event.

Get sponsored

Organizing an event costs thousands of dollars. You’ll have to spend on food, design, medical support, and so much more. If you want to save hundreds – even thousands of dollars, you need to find sponsors. Sponsors basically help you with the expenses of the event in exchange for exposure. As this is a motorbike event we are talking about, you should try to get deals with companies that your athletes and visitors can relate with. We’re talking about energy drink manufacturers, tire makers, helmet distributors, and much more.

You aren’t going to get sponsored by companies that have nothing to do with motorsports. You have better chances if you appeal to those that can relate to the event and those who can benefit from the exposure.

Some sponsors will directly contribute to the event. For starters, if you’re able to bag a deal with energy drink sellers, they could set up a concession stall at the event for you. Make sure to reach out to as many possible sponsors as you can as they can do wonders in terms of reducing the costs and generating hype.

It takes a lot of careful planning to organize motorsport – or any other event for that matter. However, if you’re able to get through that first major hurdle of organizing your actual first event, the rest will be a breeze. It’s fun organizing an event and seeing how happy the visitors are. With the steps we’ve shared above, you’re sure to have a fun time as well.

Greg Van Alst returns to ARCA Menards Series in 2021 with limited schedule

ANDERSON, Ind.: It’s been nearly two decades since Greg Van Alst competed in a points-paying ARCA Menards Series event, but that hiatus will come to an end as Greg Van Alst Motorsports officially announced today his return to the series’ in 2021 beginning with the season-opening race at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway on Sat., Feb. 13.

Greg Van Alst first competed on the ARCA Menards Series tour on a limited schedule in 2002 driving for Locke Bros. Racing, but as the team shifted priorities, Van Alst took a path to Late Models where he has steadily and successfully built a strong career, including the 2019 ARCA CRA championship.

Winning the championship awarded Van Alst the opportunity to participate in the open ARCA Menards Series test at the 2.5-mile superspeedway in January 2020 which reignited his flame to compete in the series.

Greg Van Alst Motorsports will make its first on-track appearance during ARCA Menards Series preseason testing at the “World Center of Racing” next month.

“I’m very excited about 2021,” said Van Alst.

“This is a great opportunity for myself and my Greg Van Alst Motorsports team to come to the ARCA Menards Series with some great marketing partners and pursue the best in on-track performance.

“I’m looking forward to going to Daytona in January and having a positive preseason test and returning in February and competing for the win.”

CB Fabricating, a longtime partner with Greg Van Alst Motorsports will boost its commitment to the team and make the leap to the ARCA Menards Series as the primary marketing partner of Van Alst’s No. 35 Chevrolet.

Headquartered in Anderson, Ind., CB Fabricating offers a complete list of fabricating from design, laser cutting, CNC punching, forming, welding, powder coating, and assembly.

Their 26,000 square foot facility allows them to service the needs of many different industries. Everything from the Automotive, agricultural, aquatic, medical, transportation, electrical enclosures, and much more.

“Without the support of Chris Barkdull and everyone at CB Fabricating, this chance to elevate our team to the next level would not have been possible,” added Van Alst. “We have set goals for ourselves in 2021 and I believe we are aligning ourselves with the right people who can allow us to turn heads not only at Daytona but throughout the 2021 season.”

For Daytona, Greg Van Alst has acquired equipment from Chad Bryant Racing.

“Ever since the Daytona ARCA test in January 2020, I was itching to get back to the track in an ARCA car and while there were opportunities, I didn’t want to just jump in a car to drive. Taking our time and putting the pieces and equipment together along with our patience I think will pay off in a big way.”

Additional specifics on Greg Van Alst Motorsports’ 2021 ARCA Menards Series program is forthcoming, including crew chief and a detailed series schedule.

Chase Elliott has announced that he will be making his debut in the Rolex 24 at Daytona in January.  Elliott will be driving for Action Express Racing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season opener.  Elliott will be teamed with Felipe Nasr, Pipo Derani, and Mike Conway in the No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac DPi-V.R for the 24-hour race Jan. 30-31.

“The Rolex 24 is such a major event, and it’s a race that anybody across any type of motorsports really respects,” Elliott said. “I think everyone wants to win a watch before their career is over. It’s something different and a completely different element of racing that I haven’t really tried before.”

Former teammate and 7-time NASCAR Champion Jimmie Johnson will be in a second Cadillac with Simon Pagenaud, Kamui Kobayashi, and Mike Rockenfeller.

Both NASCAR drivers have a lot of experience at Daytona and will be a very favorable bet at the casino elsewhere, but here is a good non ukgc list that is becoming increasingly popular.  Both drivers could also face difficulties in the transition to a different car and format.

Earnhardt returns full-time with JDM

Jeffrey Earnhardt will run the full 2021 NASCAR Xfinity Series season for JD Motorsports (JDM) the team’s No. 0 Chevrolet.  The 31-year-old grandson of the late Dale Earnhardt competed in 29 races in 2020 with one 11th place finish and four additional finishes inside the top-15.

“We got a late start (on 2020) and the plan was to run six to twelve races, but something good was happening, and by Bristol, you could sense the momentum we were having,” Earnhardt said.  “I’m really excited to return to the No. 0 and look forward to working with (team owner) Johnny (Davis) to give the fans a ‘blue-collar’ team to cheer for.”

Clark Named 2020 Buddy Shuman Award Winner

Retired Atlanta Motor Speedway President Ed Clark has been named the 2020 recipient of the prestigious Buddy Shuman Award from NASCAR.

“I’m so humbled to receive this award,” said Clark. “Never in my wildest dreams growing up in southern Virginia did I think I’d be so honored to join such a prestigious group of racing legends as a winner of the Buddy Shuman Award.”

The award recognizes individuals and organizations whose efforts and contributions helped advance the sport of stock-car racing. It is named for pioneering driver Louis Grier “Buddy” Shuman, who perished in a hotel fire in 1955.

Perez In At Red Bull: What Went Wrong For Albon?

The worst kept secret in Formula 1 has finally been revealed. Alex Albon will lose his seat at Red Bull after a fraught 18 months in the role, and Sergio Perez will replace him. For Perez, it’s a much-deserved lifeline in the sport after being cruelly dumped by Racing Point to make way for fallen Ferrari star Sebastian Vettel. For Albon, it’s a crushing blow. Only a year and a half ago, Christian Horner and Red Bull were singing his praises and talking up his potential after promoting him from Toro Rosso to replace Pierre Gasly. Now he’s out on his ear and facing an uncertain future in the sport.

We won’t dwell on the Sergio Perez story. Many other writers, websites, and columns will take care of that, and all we’d be able to do in any instance is add to the praise. The fact that Perez was evicted from his Racing Point seat while Lance Stroll was allowed to keep his on account of being the owner’s son didn’t sit right with many Formula 1 fans, and the Mexican’s victory at the Sakhir Grand Prix only served to underline that. He’ll now get the chance to shine in what ought to be a much better car in 2021, and he thoroughly deserves it.

Albon, on the other hand, has to be content with becoming the team’s testing and reserve driver for next season. AlphaTauri had filled both of their seats before Red Bull made their decision, so he can’t even be demoted back to the ‘B-Team’ like Gasly was. Many people – maybe including the man himself – will be wondering where it all went wrong, so we’ve decided to take a closer look.

Poor Qualifying Performance

Albon couldn’t get close to his teammate Max Verstappen in qualifying all year long, failing to secure a starting place superior to that of the flying Dutchman even once. That’s not great, but it might not have been a concern if he’d been able to split the Mercedes cars occasionally. Nobody serious expected him to out-qualify Lewis Hamilton – even Verstappen is rarely capable of that – but he could and should have finished above Bottas on occasion. All too often, Albon started races not only behind his teammate and the two Mercedes cars but also being the occasional Renault or McLaren. His habit of making car-related excuses for his middle-of-the-pack qualification performances probably didn’t help him much either.

Lack Of Race Pace

It’s an obvious point to make, but Verstappen and Albon spent 2020 driving what is essentially the same racing car. Each driver’s team will have made adjustments to the car to suit their man’s preferences and play to their strengths, but the car is mechanically the same and is capable of the same performance. That makes it difficult to understand why over the course of the full season, Albon was on average more than half a second per lap slower than Verstappen. It doesn’t sound like much on a single lap, but over the course of a sixty-lap race, that’s a full minute. That’s the difference between being on the podium and scrapping for sixth or seventh – which is where Albon found himself more often than not.

Poor Decision Making

Christian Horner is on record as saying that he wants his drivers to finish within the top 5 at the very least, and he expects them to show tenacity and desire to get there. That creates pressure in a driver’s mind, and it might have been too much for Albon on occasion. That was on display at the Eifel Grand Prix in October when Albon collided with Daniil Kvyat while attempting to recover from a poorly-timed pit stop, putting the Russian out of the race and damaging his own car in the process. The crash was entirely Albon’s fault, and he received a ten-second penalty for it. Throughout the season, there have been times when Albon’s taken the wrong risk or failed to take opportunities when presented to him. He’s made to look worse by the fact that he’s compared against Verstappen, whose racecraft is incredible, but mistakes cost money and places, and Red Bull must have decided they’d seen enough of them.

Unfavorable Car Setup

This might not all be Albon’s fault. Much has been made over the second half of the season of the fact that both Albon and Gasly have struggled badly in the second seat at Red Bull but appeared to be fine before they went there. Since returning to the ‘junior’ team, Gasly has even gone on to claim his first-ever Grand Prix victory and finished above Albon several times. When their roles were reversed, it appeared that Albon in the ‘lesser’ car was outperforming Gasly. Perhaps there’s something to be said for the rumors that the Red Bull is designed around the specifications and preferences of Max Verstappen, who’s said to like his cars ‘pointy,’ and prefers a setup that would be alien to most other drivers on the grid. If Perez also struggles next year, it will be a sure sign that it’s the team rather than their second driver that has a problem.

We could analyze this all day, but the fact of the matter is that Christian Horner has chosen to roll the dice and change things up at Red Bull. In fact, if we’re talking gambling, perhaps UK slots would make for a better metaphor than rolling the dice. There’s only one moving part in play when you’re rolling dice, whereas online slots are all about combinations. Even if you land the three most valuable symbols in the game on your reels in a single spin, you won’t win anything for them unless they arrive in the correct formation. Formations and lineups are every bit as important in Formula 1 as they are in online slots. You don’t just need the right drivers – you need them to line up in the right way. Gasly and Albon haven’t. Perez now has to try to buck the trend.

No matter what happens in 2021, we suspect Perez will enjoy the challenge. Albon is set for a frustrating twelve months of watching, waiting and hoping he’ll eventually get the opportunity to prove everybody wrong.

AmericanTrucks Tests 3 Combinations in New Episode of “The Haul”

PAOLI, Pa. (December 22, 2020) – Aftermarket parts e-retailer, AmericanTrucks (AT), rolls out another episode of “The Haul” YouTube video series featuring a brand new 2021 F150. AT host, Justin Dugan test-fits 3 different wheel and tire combos that don’t involve suspension mods. The video narrows down the options when it comes to wheel and tire fitment on the latest version of Ford’s most popular selling pickup truck.

The 2021 F150 comes with standard 33” tires (on most models) and a reshaped fender area allowing for a slightly wider track width. With this in mind, Justin begins with his first wheel and tire combination to find out what fits and what doesn’t. He starts things off by pairing the 33” tires with a more aggressive offset and tire width. With the second set, he steps it up with a 34.5” tire combined with a 34mm offset.  The third set goes big in terms of tire size, width, and offset. Viewers will learn which options work best, taking the guesswork out of shopping for F150 wheels and tires.

AT’s “The Haul” YouTube video series supports late model F150 owners with information, reviews, and installation know-how. The latest episode tackles wheel and tire fitment for the all-new 2021 F150. With the new year upon us, AT plans to release fresh 2021 content in the weeks ahead. Mullins Racing Welcomes CorvetteParts.net As Sponsor For Daytona ARCA Race

Mullins Racing has welcomed CorvetteParts.net as a partner for the ARCA Menards Series Lucas Oil 200 Driven by General Tire at Daytona International Speedway on Feb. 13.

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Mullins Racing is proud to announce that CorvetteParts.net, a leader in Corvette parts and accessories, will sponsor team owner and driver Willie Mullins during the ARCA Menards Series Lucas Oil 200 Driven by General Tire on Feb. 13 at Daytona International Speedway.

CorvetteParts.net owners Tom and TJ Keen are long-time supporters of motorsports and have been involved in NASCAR sponsorship for 10 years, including most recently with Live Fast Motorsports at the NASCAR Cup Series level.

Now the Keen’s will expand that sponsorship to include Mullins Racing as the 40-year-old Mullins attempts to earn his first ARCA Menards Series victory on the series’ grandest stage.

“This is a big step for us, to have someone like Tom and TJ that love to sponsor and love to help the average racer,” Mullins said. “We also have under the large umbrella as part of the CorvetteParts.net banner Mark Wertz, who is a local late model racer here in Virginia that is also sponsored by the Keen family. That’s even cooler that it is all tied together with a small group of people.”

Interestingly, the relationship between Mullins Racing and CorvetteParts.net started on social media between Mullins’ wife, Dinah, and TJ Keen.

“It was kind of a fluke thing that happened,” Mullins explained. “Dinah and TJ Keen started working together on social media to help out a mutual friend and they kind of hit it off and got to talking. That’s kind of how it started in the spring and now they’ve decided to jump on board with us for Daytona.”

The addition of the Mullins Racing sponsorship means CorvetteParts.net will be involved in three different NASCAR-owned series as a sponsor in 2021.

“Tom and I are thrilled to partner with Mullins Racing for the opening ARCA event at Daytona,” said TJ Keen of CorvetteParts.net. “When we began an Xfinity race sponsorship in 2011, we never thought it would lead to CorvetteParts.net being involved in five different NASCAR series. We’re looking forward to kicking off the 2021 race season with Mullins Racing at Daytona. The team is well prepared and we look forward to a solid finish.”

As part of the new relationship between Mullins Racing and CorvetteParts.net, the team will debut a new paint scheme that will be revealed on social media closer to the ARCA Menards Series season opener on Feb. 13.

In addition to welcoming CorvetteParts.net to the team, Mullins Racing has expanded its fleet of race cars with the purchase of a former GMS Racing Chevrolet superspeedway car that Mullins plans to race during the Lucas Oil 200 Driven by General Tire.

The car is the same car driven by World of Outlaws star David Gravel in the ARCA opener in February of this year. Brandon McReynolds drove the car at Daytona in 2019 and Sheldon Creed used it to push Mullins to his career-best runner-up finish at Daytona during the 2018 season opener at Daytona.

Mullins believes the addition of CorvetteParts.net, plus an updated superspeedway car, puts him and the Mullins Racing team in the best position possible to compete for a victory on Feb. 13.

“We expect to go down there and if not be in the top-five, but be closer to the top-five on the speed charts,” Mullins said. “We’re nervous right now. We’re working on it to make sure it’s right. We’re going to go down to Daytona for the annual test in January and do everything we can to make sure this car is ready to go. It’s just exciting to have the latest generation of car to race.

“We’re just hopeful we’ve made the right decisions in the off-season to further our team.”

The addition of another superspeedway car also means the team has the ability to field a second race car during the season opening round at Daytona International Speedway. Mullins Racing is actively looking for a driver and sponsor interested in competing in the Lucas Oil 200 Driven by General Tire.

The team also has testing opportunities available during the annual pre-season test at Daytona International Speedway on Jan. 15-16. Interested parties can contact Dinah Mullins at dinahmariethompson@gmail.com.

“We’ll have a second car that we are looking to field in the race,” Mullins said. “It’s the same car I drove to second in 2018 and finished eighth last year, so we know it’s a stout piece. We’ll have opportunities to test in that car at the pre-season test too for anyone needing to turn some laps at Daytona for licensing purposes.”

The No. 3 Mullins Racing Chevrolet carries sponsorship support from CorvetteParts.net, Crow Wing Recycling, CW Metals, Bugsy’s Auto, Snap On by Timmy Brann and Dinah Marie Photography.

Ed Clark Named 2020 Buddy Shuman Award Winner

HAMPTON, Ga. (Dec. 22, 2020) – Retired Atlanta Motor Speedway President Ed Clark has been named the 2020 recipient of the prestigious Buddy Shuman Award from NASCAR.

“I’m so humbled to receive this award,” said Clark. “Never in my wildest dreams growing up in southern Virginia did I think I’d be so honored to join such a prestigious group of racing legends as a winner of the Buddy Shuman Award.”

“I cannot think of anyone as deserving as Ed Clark to be receiving the Buddy Shuman Award for 2020,” said NASCAR President Mike Helton. “Everyone in our sport knows Ed and his solid character. This award will hopefully contribute to thanking him for his many contributions over nearly 50 years, and that have made this sport better for NASCAR, our competitors but most importantly, our fans”.

The award, now in its 64th year, recognizes individuals and organizations whose efforts and contributions helped advance the sport of stock-car racing. It is named for pioneering driver Louis Grier “Buddy ” Shuman, who perished in a hotel fire in 1955. The award’s namesake was one of NASCAR’s earliest stars, both a talented driver and pioneering technical inspector — and above all, a beloved member of the racing community.

Clark has left a similar mark on the sport over the course of a nearly four-decade career. He was named General Manager of Atlanta Motor Speedway in August of 1992 and was promoted to President in March of 1995 before retiring earlier this year. Prior to joining AMS, Clark spent 11 years with Charlotte Motor Speedway; first as the Public Relations Director beginning in 1981 before being promoted to Vice President of Events in 1987.

The Keysville, Va. native covered NASCAR Cup Series races for his local newspaper literally before he was old enough to enter the pits. Clark started with the Farmville Herald at 16-years old and later wrote for the Blacksburg Sun. Shortly before he graduated in 1977 from Virginia Tech, Clark accepted a job as the Public Relations Director at what was then known as Bristol International Speedway in Bristol, Tenn. He moved across the state to Nashville Raceway to become that track’s general manager two years later.
