No. 42 J.F. Electric / Utilitra Chevrolet Silverado RST
Driver: Matt Mills | Crew Chief: Mike Shiplett

  • Mills’ Kansas Stats: Matt Mills has made four NCTS starts at Kansas Speedway, finishing as high as 17th-place in 2017. Last spring, Mills drove to a 23rd-place finish. Mills has also made five NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) starts here, posting a best run of 19th in 2023. In 2021, he made his Cup Series debut at the 1.5-mile track.
  • Shiplett’s Kansas Stats: Mike Shiplett has called two NCTS races at this track, both of which were last year. In the spring, he led the Bret Holmes Racing team to a 14th-place finish. Shiplett is a past Kansas winner, triumphing with John Hunter Nemechek for the NXS race in 2018. His NXS drivers delivered one win, one pole, and three top-fives in six starts. In 10 Cup Series starts, Shiplett earned two top-10s with a best of seventh by Cole Custer in 2020.
  • On the Truck: Mills’ No. 42 Chevrolet Silverado RST will race with support from longtime partners J.F. Electric and Utilitra, who will serve as his anchor partners for the entire 25-race season.
  • Recapping Texas: Matt Mills and the No. 42 team had their hopes of a top-10 finish dashed in a late-race incident at Texas Motor Speedway. After starting deep in 30th once qualifying was rained out, a brilliant strategy call resulted in Mills capturing a second-place finish in stage one. From there, Mills hovered around the top-15 for the remainder of the night before clipping the grass on the front stretch. The damage proved to be too severe to continue the race, resulting in a 20th-place finish.
  • Points Rundown: Mills gained one spot in the points standings with his 20th-place run in Texas. Though currently shown in 19th-place, he is tied with Andres Perez de Lara for 18th. The driver of the No. 42 has a two-point buffer over Connor Mosack in 20th.
  • Quoting Mills: What can you take away from some of the other intermediates for this week?

“Our long-run speed on mile-and-a-halves is our strong suit, but we need to find a little bit of a balance between firing off and maintaining that speed with how the stages are laid out for us in the trucks. Kansas is a good track for Niece Motorsports as a whole, so going into this one I feel strongly that we can have a good run. We’ve been fast there in the past, but just haven’t been able to get the results to show it.”

No. 44 AutoVentive / Precision Vehicle Logistics Chevrolet Silverado RST
Driver: Bayley Currey | Crew Chief: Wally Rogers

  • Currey’s Kansas Stats: Bayley Currey has competed in seven NCTS races at Kansas and recently picked up his personal-best finish here (eighth) in the fall of 2024. Currey was strong in the spring as well, falling one spot short of a top-10. He’s also made five NXS starts, finishing as high as 16th in 2021, along with one Cup Series start.
  • Rogers’ Kansas Stats: Wally Rogers has called 11 NCTS races at Kansas, resulting in one top-five (fifth with Matt Crafton in 2004) and two top-10 finishes. Rogers called six NXS races at the 1.5-mile track, finishing as high as third with Greg Biffle in 2003. He has also made a total of eight Cup Series starts here.
  • On the Truck: Currey’s No. 44 Chevrolet Silverado RST will race with support from AutoVentive and Precision Vehicle Logistics, who both make their first appearance on his truck for this year.
  • Recapping Texas: After having two races feel like they got away, Bayley Currey and the No. 44 team were able to break through for a hard-earned top-10 finish at Texas Motor Speedway. Currey started the race mid-pack and struggled to pass other trucks in dirty air, but kept calm and stayed calculated throughout the night. With the help of some great pit stops and strong maneuvers on restarts, Currey drove to an eighth-place finish.
  • Owner Points Rundown: Currey’s eighth-place run at Texas gained the No. 44 team some ground in the owner points standings, but the entry remains in 15th-place. Heading into Kansas, the team is only three points behind TRICON Garage’s No. 17 truck in 14th and one point ahead of Spire Motorsports’ No. 71 Silverado in 16th.
  • Quoting Currey: You picked up a top-10 last week and last fall here, so what can you do to keep the momentum rolling?

“I think the biggest thing is just to keep doing what we’re doing. The No. 44 guys are clicking really good. I keep saying that, but they really have been. Just have to keep our same processes going. We had a really good run here last year, and I feel like we’re a lot better than last year, so hopefully we can just carry this momentum and these good runs into something good at Kansas.”

About AutoVentive: AutoVentive is an industry-leading Software as a Service (SaaS) applications developer providing customized solutions to the automotive logistics industry. The company is part of Liberty Hill Equity Partners, LLC, a Cincinnati-based private equity firm.

No. 45 DQS Solutions & Staffing / Masked Owl Technologies Chevrolet Silverado RST
Driver: Kaden Honeycutt | Crew Chief: Phil Gould

  • Honeycutt’s Kansas Stats: Kaden Honeycutt has raced four times prior at Kansas Speedway, and was a strong contender in both races last year. With two fourth-place efforts in 2024, Honeycutt’s average finish from both races was the third-best overall behind only Corey Heim and Christian Eckes.
  • Gould’s Kansas Stats: Phil Gould has called 11 NCTS races at Kansas Speedway, all for Niece Motorsports. In 2019, Gould won the team’s first race at this track while working with Ross Chastain. Gould’s drivers typically fare well here, earning four top-fives and six top-10 finishes over the years. In six NXS starts at the track, Gould’s teams picked up three top-10 finishes.
  • On the Truck: Honeycutt’s No. 45 Chevrolet Silverado RST will race with support from DQS Solutions & Staffing and Masked Owl Technologies, who will serve as his anchor partners for the majority of the season.
  • Recapping Texas: Local favorite Kaden Honeycutt was tracking for a great Texas debut in front of the hometown crowd, but unfortunately was wiped out in an early crash. Honeycutt started in sixth-place and was running up front when a truck hit the grass in front of him and slammed into the nose of the No. 45 Chevrolet. With nowhere to go, Honeycutt hit the turn one wall at a high rate of speed, and was done for the night. He was credited with a 32nd-place finish.
  • Points Rundown: Despite finishing last in Texas, Honeycutt’s points advantage over the Playoffs cutline drivers kept him from dropping out of contention. Entering the ninth race of the year at Kansas, Honeycutt continues on in ninth-place, 22 points behind Layne Riggs in eighth and five points ahead of Ben Rhodes in 10th.
  • Quoting Honeycutt: Your team was strong in both Kansas races last year, so what do you need when you go back here?

“We had two different scenarios and almost had a chance to win both of them last year. I’m not concerned about going to Kansas without any speed; I think we’ll be fast. Just need to execute, really. I think the last two times, that was the only thing that held us back was execution. We’ve had a lot of speed everywhere we’ve gone this year from short tracks to mile-and-a-halves. I think it’s just going to be about hitting the strategy right and doing what I need to do to put ourselves in a good position to fight for the win. This company has had speed at Kansas for the past six years or so, so I don’t see anything changing.”

Three Straight? Ford Heads To Kansas Speedway Looking For Another Cup Win

KANSAS 1

Saturday, May 10 — NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, 7:30 p.m. ET (FS1)
Sunday, May 11 — NASCAR Cup Series, 3 p.m. ET (FS1)

Ford heads to Kansas Speedway on the heels of its second straight NASCAR Cup Series victory and while 12 Mustang Dark Horses will be center stage in America’s Heartland on Sunday, it won’t be the only place. This weekend, there will be 56 Mustangs competing in various series around the world, including IMSA, Formula Drift and the Repco Supercars Championship in Australia.

FORD GOING FOR THREE IN A ROW

Ford goes into this weekend’s race at Kansas Speedway having won back-to-back NASCAR Cup Series races with Austin Cindric (Talladega) and Joey Logano (Texas). The last time Ford won at least three consecutive races was a year ago when Harrison Burton took the checkered flag at Daytona International Speedway, sparking a four-race streak and claiming the 100th all-time win for the Wood Brothers. Overall, Ford has won nine Cup races at Kansas with Logano and Brad Keselowski combining to win four.

LOGANO MOVES UP FORD WIN LIST

Joey Logano’s win on Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway was his 37th career victory and 35th with Ford, moving him into a tie with Mark Martin for third-place on the all-time Ford list. That leaves only Bill Elliott (40) and Ned Jarrett (43) ahead of him. In addition to clinching a playoff spot, Logano recorded a win for the 14th straight season and continued a streak that has seen nine different drivers go to Victory Lane in the last nine TMS Cup events.

ALL-TIME FORD CUP WIN LIST

Ned Jarrett – 43

Bill Elliott – 40

Joey Logano – 35

Mark Martin – 35

Dale Jarrett – 30

David Pearson – 29

Brad Keselowski – 27

Fred Lorenzen – 26

Junior Johnson – 26

Kevin Harvick – 25

JOEY LOGANO: “At Kansas, you need a fast car, that is for sure. A car that can move around the race track is a big part of it. I like Kansas. It is a good place and probably one of the best tracks we have with this car. There are a lot of options to move around and you are in the gas a lot. Getting your car to rotate on throttle is the key there.”

RYAN BLANEY: “Kansas is a fast mile-and-a-half. I always talk about commitment level, and your commitment level has to be really high there, especially in qualifying. I think the beauty of it is that you can run all these different lanes — bottom, middle, top. For a while, it was top dominant, but that has changed a bit over the years. Last year I felt like the bottom could run a little bit. It is a place where you know you are going to be standing on the gas when you get there, and I think that is what drivers prepare for mentally. You have to be ready to hang on. It puts on a good show, and hopefully we can get a win.”

JOSH BERRY: WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO BE VERSATILE AT KANSAS? “I think it just really boils down to the Next Gen era of racing and it’s so hard to follow each other. If your car is really good on the top, that’s great, but if you can’t move down to get some clean air, you’re not gonna be able to pass. So, it’s just important to be good in multiple lanes because that way you can navigate racing through the field, but even if you’re the leader, you need to be able to navigate and pass lap traffic and make good lap time. I think that’s why that track seems to promote such good racing because it has multiple lanes and allows us options to have side-by-side battles.”

AUSTIN CINDRIC: “Whenever you are on the gas a lot, I think these Fords perform really well, and Kansas is one of those places. We have a lot of learnings from intermediates in the early season, and a lot of important races coming up. Kansas, you are definitely on the gas, and I like that you can move around there. Both of those bode well for our Ford group. I am looking forward to it.”

KEEP AN EYE ON KES

Brad Keselowski comes into this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series race looking for his first win of the season, but Kansas Speedway could provide the proper medicine for a trip to Victory Lane. In 30 career starts on the 1.5-mile track, Keselowski has a pair of wins and 14 top-10’s for an average finish of 12.5. The only tracks currently on the circuit where he has better numbers are Loudon (10.5), Pocono (10.8), Darlington and Michigan (12.0) and Richmond (12.1).

LOGANO GOING FOR FOURTH KANSAS VICTORY

Joey Logano will be looking for his fourth career win at Kansas Speedway this weekend, which would tie his personal best at any single track. Logano currently has four career wins at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Phoenix Raceway. He won for the first time at Kansas in 2014, and then did it again one year later in the playoffs. That contributed to a sweep of the round as he took the checkered flag the following week at Talladega. His last Kansas win came in 2020 when he led the final 45 laps to beat Kevin Harvick across the finish line and clinch a spot in the Championship 4.

ON YOUR MARK

Ford went to victory for the first time at Kansas Speedway on Oct. 9, 2005 when Mark Martin took the checkered flag in what was a Roush Fenway Racing runaway with teammates Greg Biffle and Carl Edwards finishing second and third, respectively. Martin led a race-high 139 laps, including 81 of the final 83 circuits, to win by one-half second. It marked the second time in as many months that RFR swept the top three spots, a feat it did two more times during that season. In addition, the victory ended up being Martin’s last with Ford. His 35 series wins with the manufacturer ranks tied for third all-time with Joey Logano, trailing only leader Ned Jarrett (43) and second-place Bill Elliott (40).

KANSAS IS CRAFTON’S BEST

Three-time NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion Matt Crafton comes into this weekend 15th in the point standings, but a seventh-place effort last weekend at Texas Motor Speedway has him and his No. 88 Ford F-150 team pointed in the right direction. He’ll look to continue the climb on Saturday at Kansas Speedway, where he has a career-high three victories (2013, 2015), including one with Ford in 2020. In 29 career starts, he has 15 top-10 finishes.

FIVE FORD DRIVERS IN TOP 10

The top 10 in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series point standings is dominated by Ford F-150 drivers as they make up half of that group, led by Chandler Smith in second place. The Front Row Motorsports pilot is joined by his teammate, Layne Riggs, in eighth place while the ThorSport racing trio of defending champion Ty Majeski (fifth), Jake Garcia (seventh) and Ben Rhodes (10th) also find themselves in playoff positions.

William Byron – Driver, No. 07 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado

  • William Byron will drive Spire Motorsports’ No. 07 HENDRICKCARS.COM Chevrolet Silverado in Saturday’s Heart of Health Care 200 at Kansas Speedway.
  • The NASCAR Cup Series regular will pull double duty this weekend and also pilot Hendrick Motorsports’ No. 24 Raptor Chevrolet ZL1 in Sunday’s AdventHealth 400.
  • Byron’s only previous CRAFTSMAN Truck Series start at the Kansas City oval saw him drive into Victory Lane in May 2016 for his first-career victory in only his fifth start. The then-18-year-old driver took the lead on the final lap after the leaders tangled in Turn 3 and cruised to the finish line to lead his 34th lap of the night.
  • The Charlotte, N.C., native led Spire Motorsports to its inaugural CRAFTSMAN Truck Series victory at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway in April 2022. He was forced to start from the 32nd position after qualifying was cancelled due to inclement weather. He meticulously worked his way through the field, taking the lead on Lap 105 during pit stops prior to the Final Stage. The No. 7 Silverado swapped the lead with Chandler Smith over the next several circuits, but Byron went on to lead a race-high 94 laps en route to his first grandfather clock trophy. The win came in Spire Motorsports’ second start in the series.

William Byron Quote
What are your thoughts about returning to the site of your first CRAFTSMAN Truck Series win?
“I’m excited to get back in a truck this weekend especially at Kansas (Speedway). This is a track where I’ve run well at during my career, but extra laps are always helpful no matter where it is. I appreciate Spire giving me the chance to run a truck again this year and hopefully we can have a good showing for them and HendrickCars.com.”

Atop the No. 07 Box – Crew Chief Allen Hart
Allen Hart calls the shots for the No. 07 team, an entry that will see a rotating roster of drivers throughout the 2025 campaign.
Last time out at Texas Motor Speedway, the No. 07 team and driver Nick Sanchez spent most of the evening racing inside the top 10. The Gainbridge Silverado hit pit road under green-flag conditions for the team’s final scheduled service of the night, however, the driver slid through the pit box and received a penalty for driving through too many stalls. After serving a drive-through penalty, the two-time CRAFTSMAN Truck Series winner returned to the track two laps down. A Lap 152 caution allowed the 23-year-old to receive a lap back via the wave around, and three laps later, received the free pass to return to the lead lap. Sanchez capitalized on a slew of late-race incidents to come home 13th.
The Midland, Mich., native earned his first career win in a crew chief role in March’s Baptist Health 200 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. After a spin midway through the Final Stage, Kyle Larson made an impressive run through the field over the event’s final 40 circuits, chasing down the leaders with two laps remaining to make the winning move.
Through eight races, No. 07 team sit sixth in the division’s owner’s championship point standings on the strength of one win, two top-five and two top-10 finishes.

  • Hocevar will pull double duty this weekend and also drive Spire Motorsports No. 77 Delaware Life Chevrolet ZL1 in Sunday’s AdventHealth 400 NASCAR Cup Series race.
  • The 2024 Cup Series Rookie of the Year made his return to the CRAFTSMAN Truck Series last week at Texas Motor Speedway. He fell out of contention for a top-five finish when he lost voltage under green-flag conditions and was forced to make an unscheduled pit stop. The team ultimately finished 17th.
  • The 22-year-old has made five CRAFTSMAN Truck Series starts at Kansas Speedway where he’s collected one top five and two top 10s. His five appearances are highlighted by a runner-up finish in 2022 where he claimed the lead via fuel strategy and paced the field for 28 circuits. He was passed on the final lap when his Silverado stumbled on low fuel.
  • The Portage, Mich., native is a veteran of 78 CRAFTSMAN Truck Series races, earning four wins, 21 top fives and 33 top 10s while leading 600 laps. He made the CRAFTSMAN Truck Series playoffs in all three full-time seasons, and reached the Championship 4 in 2023.
  • Prior to climbing in the No. 7 Delaware Life Chevrolet Silverado on Saturday, Hocevar will return to the FS1 broadcast booth for Friday night’s ARCA Menards Series race. He owns seven top-five and 13 top-10 finishes in 16 starts in the series.
  • The four-time CRAFTSMAN Truck Series race winner will return to the No. 7 Silverado next month at Michigan International Speedway (June 7). He will round out his four-race slate at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway (June 20).

Carson Hocevar Quote
What are your expectations after showing speed but had mechanical issues. What are your expectations for this weekend?
“I think we’ll have another good weekend. I felt like running the truck race at Texas was a big help as far as getting laps on track and getting into the racing mindset early in the weekend, so I’m excited to do that again at Kansas and try to make up for how last weekend ended. I’ve enjoyed working with Brian (Pattie) and the No. 7 team and want to get them a great result for their hard work.”

Atop the No. 7 Box – Crew Chief Brian Pattie

  • Brian Pattie stands atop of the No. 7 pit box, an entry that will see a plethora of all-star caliber drivers behind the wheel throughout the 2025 season.
  • The Zephyrhills, Fla., native has called two CRAFTSMAN Truck Series races at Kansas Speedway, highlighted by a seventh-place result with Kyle Busch in May 2023.
  • The 50-year-old earned a pair of top-five finishes at Kansas Speedway in NASCAR’s premier division, claiming a fourth-place finish with Juan Pablo Montoya (2009) and a fifth-place result with Clint Bowyer (April 2013).
  • The 24-year veteran spent 14 seasons in NASCAR’s premier division. As a crew chief, he has earned six wins in Cup Series competition and 11 in the Xfinity Series. He stands as one of 11 crew chiefs to win races across all three of NASCAR’s national touring series.
  • Earlier this season, the No. 7 team defended its 2024 victory in the Fr8 208 at Atlanta Motor Speedway with Kyle Busch behind the wheel. The Las Vegas driver spent all 135 laps in the top 15 while leading a race-high 80 laps and recording a field-leading average running position (3.2) and driver rating (124.6).

Rajah Caruth – Driver, No. 71 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado

  • Rajah Caruth will pilot Spire Motorsports’ No. 71 HENDRICKCARS.COM Chevrolet Silverado in Saturday evening’s Heart of Health Care 200 at Kansas Speedway.
  • The 22-year-old has made four CRAFTSMAN Truck Series starts at the 1.5-mile D-shaped oval, claiming his first top 10 at the venue with a seventh-place finish last September. Last season’s finish secured a birth into the Round of 8 of the CRAFTSMAN Truck Series playoffs for Caruth and the No. 71 team.
  • The recent Winston-Salem (N.C.) State University graduate has three ARCA Menards Series starts at Kansas, claiming one top five and two top 10s. He secured a runner-up finish to teammate Nick Sanchez in May 2022, and was positioned comfortably within the top three in Fall 2022 until a tire failure ended his race eight laps early.
  • Last time out at Texas Motor Speedway, a lightning-fast pit stop by the HENDRICKCARS.COM crew on the final trip to pit road cycled the No. 71 Chevrolet to the eighth position, one lap behind the leaders. A Lap 148 caution allowed Caruth to take the wave around and gain his lap back, restarting eighth with 16 laps remaining. A multi-truck incident propelled him to the third position for a trio of late-race restarts. In NASCAR Overtime, the driver’s second-career win was in sight, but he ultimately had to settle for a third-place finish.
  • After starting the season with back-to-back finishes outside the top 25, Caruth has rebounded with five top-10 finishes in the last six events. He is one of three drivers to accomplish the feat over the same number of races.
  • Through the first eight events on the CRAFTSMAN Truck Series calendar, Caruth has tallied two top fives and five top 10s, while pacing the field for 115 circuits – doubling his total of 56 from the 2024 campaign.
  • HENDRICKCARS.COM is the online home for everything Hendrick Automotive Group. • The 2024 season marked a career year for Caruth where he tallied one win, a pair of Cometic Gasket Pole Awards and five top-five finishes, all of which were the first of his young career. The 12 top-10 finishes on the season tripled Caruth’s total of four in 2023, while his average starting position of 10.7 was four positions higher than 2023 and his 11.6 average finish was an impressive seven positions higher.
  • With his first career CRAFTSMAN Truck Series win last season, Caruth became the third African-American driver to win a NASCAR National Touring Series race.
  • Caruth and the No. 71 team qualified for the CRAFTSMAN Truck Series playoffs in 2024, the first such appearance for the former Washington, D.C., resident. Despite reaching the Round of 8, mechanical issues stalled his championship bid in the season’s penultimate event at Martinsville Speedway.

Rajah Caruth Quotes
Kansas is the track you’ve made the most starts in all series combined. How do you feel about the venue?
“I love Kansas. That was the first mile-and-a-half I ran in ARCA. I led some laps and probably should have won a race or two there. I think I’ve been competitive each time I’ve ran there in a truck. I took myself out the first time we went there, but hopefully we can be as fast as we were that race this weekend. To be fast, you have to run the wall, which I believe fits my strong suit. I’ve definitely got a bit of a pep in my step coming off of a good weekend at Texas.”

How does putting together good runs at Kansas in the past help your confidence level heading into the weekend?
“I think the positive direction is what helps the most. You see the results coming in as a result of your hard work, and that is a huge determining factor. When you work so hard and things aren’t going well, it can make it all seem like its for nothing. We have been on a nice little top 10 streak recently, and we are heading to a track I’ve put together a few nice runs the last couple trips. I definitely feel good going into the weekend.”

Atop the No. 71 Box – Crew Chief Kevin “Bono” Manion

  • Veteran crew chief Kevin “Bono” Manion has stood atop the box for 10 CRAFTSMAN Truck Series races at Kansas Speedway, tallying five top 10s and eight top 15s.
  • The Boylston, Mass., native called Kyle Busch to a May 2017 victory in America’s heartland, leading a race-high 94 laps en route to the driver’s 47th win in the series.
  • Manion, a 31-year veteran of the sport, founded Spire Motorsports’ CRAFTSMAN Truck Series program alongside industry veteran Mike Greci in 2022. The team claimed their first victory in their second outing with William Byron behind the wheel at Martinsville Speedway.
  • The 53-year-old has racked up six Cup Series victories – including the 2010 Daytona 500 – 17 NASCAR Xfinity Series triumphs and 11 CRAFTSMAN Truck series wins. Manion is also one of 11 crew chiefs to have called wins across all three of NASCAR’s national touring series.
  • In 2023, Manion became one of few to call a race in all three of NASCAR’s national series in a single season, all of which came under the Spire Motorsports banner. He led the part-time effort on the No. 7 Silverado in the CRAFTSMAN Truck Series, helped in limited starts for Carson Hocevar in the Xfinity Series and took the reigns during the second half of the Cup Series season for Ty Dillon and the No. 77 team.

Andres Perez de Lara – Driver, No. 77 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado

  • Andres Perez de Lara will pilot the No. 77 Telcel Chevrolet Silverado for Spire Motorsports in the Heart of Health Care 200 at Kansas Speedway.
  • In the division’s most recent race at Texas Motor Speedway, Perez de Lara made contact with a competitor causing a significant impact with the outside retaining wall, dealing race-ending damage.
  • The 20-year-old will make his fifth start at the Kansas oval on Saturday and his first in the CRAFTSMAN Truck Series. In his four starts in ARCA Menards Series competition, the 2024 series champion has tallied two top 10s , with his best run coming in the spring of 2023 with a sixth-place finish, which was his first career 1.5-mile-oval start.
  • Telcel is Mexico’s leading telecommunications company, providing nationwide coverage, cutting-edge mobile connectivity, and high-speed internet services to millions of users. • The Mexico City native has made 10 CRAFTSMAN Truck Series starts, nine of which were behind the wheel of a Spire Motorsports Chevy Silverado. He earned his first-career top 10 in his CRAFTSMAN Truck Series debut last June at World Wide Technology Raceway via a ninth-place result. His career-best seventh-place finish at Martinsville Speedway in March marked his second top 10 in the series.
  • Perez de Lara is in pursuit of Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors in 2025 and sits second in the standings for the award, 39 points behind leader Gio Ruggiero.
  • The 2024 ARCA Menards Series champion juggled his duties while also competing full time in the NASCAR Mexico Series. In 2023, he earned the Rookie of the Year award while finishing fourth in the division’s championship point standings and reaching the series’ version of the NASCAR playoffs. His lone win in the series came at Ovalo Aguascalientes, a 0.875-mile oval.

Andres Perez de Lara Quotes
You made your first career 1.5-mile oval start at Kansas in the ARCA Menards Series. How do you feel about returning to the track in a truck this weekend?
“I am excited to get back to Kansas this weekend. Out of all of the tracks we have been to this year, I think I’ve run the most laps at Kansas. The race will play out completely different in a truck. We have worked hard in the simulator and at the shop to make sure the truck will be prepared to run multiple lines on track. I will have to take full advantage of practice on Saturday to get comfortable running the top, and find all the ways I can make speed. Hopefully, we can execute all day and get a solid result.”

Kansas is well-known as a multi-groove race track. How do you think that will progress throughout the race?
“Kansas is one of the most technical tracks that we go to all year. Everyone will progress to the top of the track. We will have to make the top work. That’s where the fastest lap times are when tires begin to fall off.”

Atop the No. 77 Box – Crew Chief Chad Walter

  • Crew chief Chad Walter has called eight CRAFTSMAN Truck Series events at Kansas Speedway, earning two top-10 finishes, highlighted by a seventh-place result last September with Rajah Caruth.
  • In eight appearances atop the box in NASCAR Xfinity Series competition, Walter has amassed two top fives and six top 10s.
  • Between NASCAR’s Xfinity Series and CRAFTSMAN Truck Series, the Albion, N.Y. native has racked up six wins, 52 top fives and 131 top 10s.

AdventHealth 400 Rewards the Adventurous

Kansas Speedway’s Seemingly Simple Layout Dares Drivers to be Different

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (May 6, 2025) – Kansas Speedway is a deceptively simple 1.5-mile oval on the outskirts of Kansas City that has produced high speeds and daring, side-by-side racing since its NASCAR Cup Series debut in 2001. Its sweeping, D-shaped layout allows drivers to explore multiple racing lines, and its smooth surface provides a consistent feel, instilling much-needed confidence when throwing a 3,400-pound racecar into a corner at around 170 mph.

After competing last weekend at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, where a massive bump in turn four of its 1.5-mile oval kept drivers on a knife edge, this Sunday’s AdventHealth 400 at Kansas offers a welcome reprieve.

“Kansas is a mile-and-a-half track that’s in great condition. No bumps, no wear, you can pretty much run that track from top to bottom,” said Cody Ware, driver of the No. 51 Parts Plus Ford Mustang Dark Horse for Rick Ware Racing. “If you want to run the apron, you can run the apron. If you want to run the wall, you can run the wall. And you can run any combination of lanes in between. You’re not having to fight through bumps like we just did at Texas. You’re not dealing with rough track surfaces, like Darlington. It’s really just a very good, solid, smooth, clean racetrack, which makes it easier to extract the car’s full potential.”

Unlocking that last bit of potential is perhaps the hardest element of Kansas.

“I feel like everyone typically unloads really, really well at Kansas,” Ware said. “Because the track allows you to move around, you can find a line that suits you and your racecar the best. You can get your car 99 percent there with where you want it to be.”

But in a sport where the entire field is separated by just tenths of a second, extracting that last percentage point is the true challenge of Kansas.

“Those guys who get to 100 percent, or even 101 percent, they’re really pushing the envelope,” Ware said. “You can drive on the ragged edge at Kansas because the risk is lower compared to other tracks. It’s a driver’s track. You can find speed because you’re able to turn quick, consistent laps.”

This myriad of options, however, makes Kansas complex. Without a plan of attack, Kansas’ simplicity can become a liability.

“You need to go into Kansas with a plan,” Ware said. “What do you want to do as a driver? Do you want to dial your car in to rip the wall, and do it from start to finish? Do you want to try to work on building a car with some flexibility? Or do you want something where you’re running a more traditional line for a mile-and-a-half oval?

“Not everyone is a Tyler Redick or a Kyle Larson, who can just rip the wall lap after lap without making the slightest mistake. Versatility and being able to adapt is the key to Kansas, because track conditions there change.”

Another element of Kansas that needs foresight is a plan for mom, as the AdventHealth 400 falls on Mother’s Day. It is one of many holidays those in NASCAR must navigate when 38 weekends are spent at a racetrack.

“We’re a racing family, so there’s a little bit more understanding in the Ware household because my grandfather was in it, and my dad’s been in it for decades, and my mom married into it. Like my father says, she knew what she was getting into, marrying a racing fanatic,” Ware said.

“So we plan ahead and we’re flexible. We’re not always able to celebrate a holiday on the exact day, but we still find a way. Instead of having Friday to Sunday for our days off, it’s a little bit of like Monday to Thursday. It’s like our weekends are the weekdays, so we just plan our lives around that.

“It doesn’t make this stretch of 28 straight race weekends easy, but that’s why not everyone’s out here doing it, either. We have a great family and a great support system, and we just figure out a way to make it happen. It just looks a little different.”

The commitment it takes to make it to the NASCAR Cup Series, and then stay there, is monumental. It is not done alone. In the case of Cody Ware, it is his mom, Lisa, who has been one of his staunchest supporters.

“From day one, whether I wanted to be a doctor, a painter or a racecar driver, she has supported me 100 percent,” Ware said. “And for all the chaos that racing can bring, and all the weekends away from home, and the travel and the stress of it all, she’s been a supporter and a champion of mine, just an amazing mother from day one. I couldn’t ask for a better cheerleader and supporter. I’m just blessed to have the mom that I do, who puts up with a lot of what racing throws at us. I can’t thank her enough.”

Ware’s Kansas weekend begins with practice on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. CDT/4:30 p.m. EDT with qualifying following at 4:40 p.m. CDT/5:40 p.m. EDT. Prime will provide live coverage of both, while FS1 and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio will broadcast Sunday’s AdventHealth 400 live beginning at 2 p.m. CDT/3 p.m. EDT.

About Rick Ware Racing:

Rick Ware has been a motorsports mainstay for more than 40 years. It began at age 6 when the third-generation racer began his driving career and has since spanned four wheels and two wheels on both asphalt and dirt. Competing in the SCCA Trans Am Series and other road-racing divisions led Ware to NASCAR in the early 1980s, where he finished third in his NASCAR debut – the 1983 Warner W. Hodgdon 300 NASCAR Grand American race at Riverside (Calif.) International Raceway. More than a decade later, injuries would force Ware out of the driver’s seat and into full-time team ownership. In 1995, Rick Ware Racing was formed, and with his wife Lisa by his side, Ware has since built his eponymous organization into an entity that competes full-time in the elite NASCAR Cup Series while simultaneously campaigning successful teams in the Top Fuel class of the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, Progressive American Flat Track and FIM World Supercross Championship (WSX).

NHRA ROARS INTO BRISTOL DRAGWAY FOR SUPER GRIP NHRA THUNDER VALLEY NATIONALS

BRISTOL, Tenn. (May 6, 2025) – As one of the highlights on the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series tour, teams and fans are thrilled to return to Thunder Valley and famed Bristol Dragway for the 24th annual Super Grip NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals on June 6-8.

Scenic Bristol Dragway has served as a must-see facility for NHRA fans for more than two decades and serves as the eighth of 20 events during the 2025 season. The Super Grip NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals will once again deliver an incredible sensory overload with 12,000-horsepower nitro burning machines blazing down the track – and through the mountains – at more than 330 mph.

The weekend is filled with nonstop action, too, starting with a pair of qualifying sessions on Friday. That includes nitro at night, as fans can see the massive nitro header flames under the lights to close out the day. Saturday continues with the final two rounds of qualifying and the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge, which brings competitive racing to the qualifying schedule. It leads to Sunday eliminations, as all the stars in Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle look to pick up wins at one of the most memorable events of the year.

Add in autograph sessions, fireworks, unparalleled fan access and much more, and the Super Grip NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals is one race fans can’t miss.

In 2024, Tony Schumacher (Top Fuel), Austin Prock (Funny Car), Jeg Coughlin (Pro Stock) and Gaige Herrera (Pro Stock Motorcycle) all won in Bristol. Clay Millican, Prock, Erica Enders and Matt Smith each won the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge, while semifinalists from the NHRA New England Nationals will rematch in Bristol in 2025. This season’s Super Grip NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals will be broadcast on FS1, including eliminations starting at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday, June 8.

The Top Fuel ranks continue to be an ultra-competitive class, with former champion Shawn Langdon leading the points after collecting wins Phoenix and Charlotte. Motorsports legend and 2024 Rookie of the Year Tony Stewart is second after he won his first career Top Fuel race in Las Vegas. The racing legend is no stranger to Bristol success, but the star-studded class also includes reigning Top Fuel champion Antron Brown, Brittany Force and Clay Millican.

Austin Prock has dominated since moving to Funny Car class in 2024. He won eight events last year, including the Super Grip NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals, en route to his first Funny Car world title. Prock again leads the points after picking up back-to-back wins. Others in the mix are Phoenix winner Paul Lee, as well as former champs Matt Hagan, Jack Beckman, who took over driving duties for John Force, and Ron Capps.

Jeg Coughlin, a five-time Pro Stock champ, earned his third Bristol win over reigning champion Greg Anderson. But this year has belonged to KB Titan Racing, with Anderson and points leader Dallas Glenn meeting in every final so far. Glenn has won three times and Anderson twice, as others like Erica Enders and Aaron Stanfield look to stop their streak in Bristol.

Pro Stock Motorcycle first appeared at Bristol Dragway in 2021 and each year has seen a new winner. Two-time reigning champion Gaige Herrera won last year, while six-time champ Matt Smith took over the points lead in Charlotte. Other standouts include Jianna Evaristo, 2023 event winner Steve Johnson, Chase Van Sant and Angie Smith.

The event will also feature thrilling competition in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, the Congruity NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series, Flexjet NHRA Factory Stock Showdown and Johnson’s Horsepowered Garage Mountain Motor Pro Stock. After final qualifying on Saturday, fans will also be treated to a special autograph session and fanfest at the Bristol Dragway Welcome Tent in the midway.

All weekend, fans will be invited to the Nitro Alley Stage, which is the main entertainment hub in the pits. The stage hosts Nitro School, meet and greets, autograph sessions and more. Bristol race fans can enjoy the special pre-race ceremonies that introduce each driver and includes the fan favorite SealMaster Track Walk. Fans are also invited to congratulate the winners at the winner’s circle celebration on Sunday.

As always, fans get a pit pass to the most powerful and sensory-filled motorsports attraction on the planet. Fans can see their favorite teams in action and servicing their cars, get autographs and more. They can also visit NHRA’s Manufacturers Midway, where sponsors and vendors create an exciting atmosphere.

NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series qualifying will feature two rounds at 5 and 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday, June 6, and the final two rounds of qualifying on Saturday, June 7 at 12:30 and 3 p.m. Eliminations will begin at 12 p.m. ET on Sunday, June 8. Television coverage includes qualifying action at 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday and 8 p.m. on Sunday on FS1, leading into eliminations at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday.

2026 NASCAR Championship Weekend Moves to Homestead-Miami Speedway on Nov. 6-8

New Rotating Model for NASCAR Championship Weekend to be Shared Among NASCAR’s Marquee Venues & Key Markets

MIAMI, Fla. (May 6, 2025) – NASCAR announced today that the 2026 NASCAR Championship Weekend, featuring the NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series, and NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series, will be held at Homestead-Miami Speedway to conclude the 2026 season. This will be the first time since 2019 that NASCAR’s three national series will crown their champions at the South Florida racetrack.

The announcement marks a Homestead homecoming for the conclusion to the NASCAR Playoffs, as the track previously hosted the NASCAR Championship from 2002 to 2019. NASCAR Championship Weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway will be held on Nov. 6-8, 2026.

As part of this shift, the NASCAR Championship Weekend will move to a new rotating model as part of a fan-centric effort to ensure that the season’s exciting conclusion is shared amongst NASCAR’s marquee venues and key markets. Similar to other major sports championships, NASCAR will showcase its championship weekend on the new rotating model to provide greater exposure for its season’s finale in multiple markets.

“Homestead-Miami Speedway has a history of competitive, championship racing that will provide nostalgia for veteran drivers and fans and exhilaration for NASCAR’s new generation,” said Ben Kennedy, EVP, Chief Venue & Racing Innovation Officer. “As we move forward, the rotating model will provide new challenges for competitors as well as opportunities for unique venues to host our loyal fans at NASCAR Championship Weekend.”

“As we celebrate our 30th season, it is fitting we will start our next decade returning to our championship roots at Homestead-Miami Speedway,” said Guillermo Santa Cruz, Homestead-Miami Speedway President. “The 2026 NASCAR Championship Weekend will offer the brightest young stars of the sport the opportunity to join the illustrious 18-year history of championship racing in South Florida alongside veteran fan-favorite drivers.”

Three active drivers who were crowned Cup Series champions at Homestead-Miami Speedway will be hoping that history repeats itself in 2026 – Kyle Busch of Richard Childress Racing (2015, 2019), Brad Keselowski of RFK Racing (2012), and Joey Logano of Team Penske (2018). Logano has also added two championships at Phoenix Raceway (2022, 2024).

Phoenix Raceway has been a model racetrack hosting NASCAR Championship Weekend with sellouts and an unparalleled fan experience since 2020. As part of the 2026 NASCAR schedule, Phoenix Raceway will continue to host two Cup Series race dates and be a part of the NASCAR Championship as it will continue to host a prominent race in the Round of 8 in the NASCAR Playoffs. Those dates will be announced in the near future. The racetrack will also be included in the championship rotation, so NASCAR Championship Weekend will return to conclude a future season.

Cadillac targeting top step at Laguna Seca

Three-car GTP lineup coming off advancements in third race of IMSA season

DETROIT (May 6, 2025) – Seeing progress with every step, Cadillac Racing’s three-car Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) lineup is targeting a return to the top step in Victory Lane this weekend in the TireRack.com Monterey SportsCar Championship.

The No. 10 Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing V-Series.R, with Ricky Taylor and Filipe Albuquerque sharing time behind the wheel, will be joined by Jordan Taylor and Louis Deletraz driving the No. 40 Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing V-Series.R and the No. 31 Whelen Cadillac V-Series.R driven by Jack Aitken and Frederik Vesti in the 2-hour, 40-minute IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race on the 2.238-mile, 11-turn WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca course.

Cadillac Racing has recorded 10 podium finishes at Laguna Seca, including victory in 2023, since joining IMSA prototype competition in 2017. Last May, Cadillac Racing swept the front row in qualifying, with Sebastien Bourdais setting the GTP track record of 1 minute, 12.445 seconds (111.212 mph) in earning the pole.

The No. 31 Whelen Cadillac V-Series.R qualified second in 2024 to stretch its front-row streak to four races and finished second. In a manner of carpooling this time out, Vesti is sitting in for Earl Bamber, who will be driving the No. 38 Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA V-Series.R with Bourdais and Jenson Button this weekend in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) race at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.

Vesti, Action Express Racing’s first-year endurance driver, and other Cadillac Racing drivers followed up their sprint race on the streets of Long Beach with a day of testing at Laguna Seca in an effort to continue their progression. The No. 31 Whelen Cadillac V-Series.R has advanced a total of 13 positions relative to its starting spots in the past two races, finishing fourth in both.

For the Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing drivers and crews, in their first year working with the V-Series.R LMDh platform, track time is always welcome.

“I think every time we are able to get track time we are learning new things with the car. The V-Series.R car is still so new to us and most of our running is on race weekends when you don’t want to take too many risks. I think as the year goes on, we are just going to keep getting stronger and stronger,” Jordan Taylor said.

NBC will provide flag-to-flag network coverage of the race at 3 p.m. ET/noon PT Sunday. The race will stream on Peacock in the U.S., IMSA TV Live and IMSA YouTube outside the U.S. IMSA Radio’s broadcast begins at 3 p.m. ET/noon PT on IMSA.com, XM 206, Web/App 996.

What they’re saying

No. 10 Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing V-Series.R

Ricky Taylor: “It is nice to be in the rhythm of the sprint races where we can focus on execution of each session and working more exclusively with our smaller group in the team. So, Laguna will give us another good opportunity to get in the rhythm of working together. Laguna is always challenging to put together an entire strong weekend. Track position is quite important there, it is quite difficult to pass, and strategy rarely seems to reward people with many positions, so it places a lot of emphasis on being well prepared and doing a good job on all of the little things.”

Filipe Albuquerque: “We are still in the process of learning the V-Series.R car and let’s hope that Laguna is the track that clicks with understanding the car and being competitive. Our heads are down, the crews will be working hard and hopefully no mistakes, and we will be aiming for a podium.”

No. 31 Whelen Cadillac V-Series.R

Jack Aitken: “We’re looking forward to Laguna Seca and another opportunity to hit the top step in IMSA after a strong start to the season, but one where we are still looking to make that extra step. The test last month went smoothly for us and was a good chance to check some items from recent events, and work with our sister team. It’s a track I’ve always loved, so going back is a pleasure each year.”

Frederik Vesti: “The recent test at Laguna Seca was a really positive day of testing for me. It was my first experience at the track and something that I had been looking forward to, though I’ve known this track for 10 years because of sim racing and it was exciting to experience it in real life. It’s always a challenge approaching a new track, especially in the GTP because it’s such a quick car. Luckily, I think the sim racing helped because I quickly got on pace and knew the lines and brake points for the most part. I’m excited for my first sprint race weekend in IMSA with Jack and the 31 crew. It’s going to be interesting with GT3 traffic, so being assertive without putting yourself in danger of crashing will be key. My favorite corner is Turn 2. It’s such a high-speed approach and obviously the Corkscrew is a special corner that is as exciting and crazy as I had hoped for from the simulator. We are going to go with all the energy we have.”

No. 40 Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing V-Series.R

Jordan Taylor: “We had a good test in Laguna right after our Long Beach weekend. I think every time we are able to get track time we are learning new things with the car. The V-Series.R car is still so new to us and most of our running is on race weekends when you don’t want to take too many risks. I think as the year goes on, we are just going to keep getting stronger and stronger. It hasn’t been the start to the year that we wanted, so hopefully we can start contending for podiums and wins in Laguna. It’s a much different track than what we’ve seen this year, but it always brings a nice crowd and an action-packed race, so I’m looking forward to getting there.”

Louis Deletraz: “As always, I’m very excited to go to Laguna Seca. I love the track and the atmosphere. I have some good memories after winning it in 2022 (LMP2) and hopefully we can reproduce that! We have been testing recently with the Cadillac V-Series.R and it felt great. The whole team is working hard, we’re learning a lot and we’re getting faster every time we drive. I’m looking forward to the race and very motivated to bring back our first trophy of the year.”
