Berry and eero Team Confident Headed to Phoenix

After showing good speed at Daytona and especially at Atlanta, and running well late in last Sunday’s race at COTA, Josh Berry and the No. 21 eero team are headed to Phoenix Raceway. They are hoping to start getting the strong finishes that have eluded them in the first three weeks of the 2025 season.

Berry has been involved in late-race multi-car incidents in all three races this year. Two of those were on drafting style tracks and the other on a road course, while Phoenix races more like the majority of tracks on the circuit.

Miles Stanley is crew chief of the No. 21 Mustang Dark Horse that will carry the colors of eero, the innovative WiFi system that uses multiple access points to provide fast, reliable coverage on a single network. He said he is optimistic about his team’s chances in this weekend’s Shriners Children’s 500 at the relatively flat one-mile oval in the Arizona desert.

“I’m looking forward to getting to Phoenix and getting into the core of our regular season,” he said. “I think this track suits some of Josh’s strengths, as well as our team’s. The biggest curveball this weekend will be the option tire, which adds a new layer of strategy. It’ll be interesting to see how teams use it to differentiate themselves, creating more variability in the field and, ultimately, more passing.”

There will be a 45-minute practice session on Saturday at 12:05 p.m. local time to be followed by qualifying at 1:10 p.m. Amazon Prime will air the TV broadcast beginning at 2:05 p.m. Eastern Time.

Sunday’s 312-mile, 312-lap race is set to get the green flag just after 12:30 p.m. (3:30 p.m. Eastern Time) with Stage breaks at 60 and 185 laps. FOX Sports 1 will carry the TV coverage.

Back-to-Back Winner Newgarden Unveils 109th Indianapolis 500 Ticket in Two-City Celebration

INDIANAPOLIS (Thursday, March 6, 2025) – Two-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion and back-to-back winner of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge Josef Newgarden celebrated Southwest Airlines’ first nonstop flight from Indianapolis to Nashville when he unveiled the ticket for the 109th Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge on Thursday, March 6 at Indianapolis International Airport (IND).

Newgarden earned his second victory in “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” last May and became just the sixth driver to win the Indianapolis 500 in consecutive years. He powered the No. 2 Shell Powering Progress Team Penske Chevrolet to the back-to-back victory with another last-lap pass. One of the many honors bestowed upon the winner is unveiling the ticket for the next year’s race. Featuring the winning driver on the next year’s “500” ticket dates to Mauri Rose’s appearance in 1948.

Nashville native Newgarden pushed a button to unveil a larger-than-life digital rendering of the colorful ticket in Civic Plaza, IND’s community gathering area. From there, Newgarden and INDYCAR and Indianapolis Motor Speedway President J. Douglas Boles engaged with Southwest passengers and race fans at the gate as they boarded the flight from Indianapolis to Nashville, taking the celebration to Newgarden’s hometown.

Designed in house by Senior Art Director Mandy Walsh, the ticket celebrates the back-to-back wins with full-color images, including Newgarden’s Victory Podium celebrations and his almost identical liveries. Vibrant images from 2024 are shadowed by similar images from 2023.

“It’s very cool to be here in the Indianapolis International Airport,” Newgarden said. “Indiana and Tennessee are my two homes, so the fact we have the Indianapolis 500 in Indiana and the (NTT INDYCAR SERIES) championship finale in Tennessee is a great parallel. To top it all off is seeing this beautiful ticket from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Indy 500. It’s an incredible-looking ticket.

“To see my likeness on there, to see our team represented, it’s a very special feeling. You don’t know if that day will ever come when you drive into the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The fact we’ve been able to pull it off twice, back to back, and that it’s been celebrated on this ticket, I’m super, super thankful.”

Once arriving in Nashville, Newgarden and Boles will visit Indianapolis 500 ticketholders and media in Nashville and conclude the day with a Fan Event at Big Machine Distillery and Tavern, where the 2025 Indianapolis 500 ticket and the Borg-Warner Trophy will be on display. Newgarden and Boles will be on hand to meet with fans and conduct a brief question-and-answer session.

Newgarden will attempt to become the first driver to win three consecutive Indianapolis 500s on Sunday, May 25 in the 109th Indianapolis presented by Gainbridge at IMS, with live coverage starting at 10 a.m. ET on FOX, FOX Deportes, FOX Sports app and the INDYCAR Radio Network.

Tickets for the Indy 500 and all Month of May activities are on sale at IMS.com, by calling the IMS Ticket Office at 317-492-6700 or by visiting the ticket office.

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTE:

What are your thoughts on racing at Phoenix Raceway this weekend?

“Phoenix Raceway is a tough track that has seen changes over the years, and I think it’s made the track more challenging, which makes it fun for drivers. Phoenix is one of those places where you hit it or don’t, so we will need to get our Chevrolet dialed in on Saturday. Pit stops are going to be key here. The pit road is tight; getting in and out of the stall clean can put us in a good track position. The restarts are wild, sometimes we will run three, four, and five wide getting into Turn 1. On Sunday, Phoenix Raceway could be a good place for the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops/Winchester Chevrolet team to come out with a top-10.”

Kyle Busch and the No. 8 zone Chevrolet at Phoenix Raceway… Sunday’s Shriners Children’s 500 will mark Kyle Busch’s 40th career NASCAR Cup Series start at Phoenix Raceway. Busch is a three-time winner at the desert oval, having claimed checkered flags in November 2005, November 2018 and March 2019. Additionally, the Las Vegas native owns 12 top-five and 26 top-10 finishes, has an average starting position of 11.7 and an average finishing position of 11.5. Busch has completed 98.3% (11,971 of 12,177) of laps competed.

All-Time Lap Leader… Busch is the all-time Cup Series lap leader at Phoenix Raceway (1,190).

Did You Know? Busch holds the record for being both the youngest race and pole winner in Cup Series competition at Phoenix Raceway. Busch captured his first Phoenix victory in November 2005 (20 years, 6 months, and 11 days) and won his first pole in March 2006 (20 years, 11 months, and 20 days).

Pole Position… Busch has 34 career Cup Series poles – four of which have come at Phoenix Raceway.

Success Not Limited to the Cup Series… In addition to his premier series success at Phoenix Raceway, the veteran racer also has 11 NASCAR Xfinity Series and two NASCAR Truck Series wins at the Avondale, Arizona track.

Get to the Points… With his fifth-place effort last Sunday at Circuit of The Americas, Busch enters Phoenix Raceway in the ninth position in the Cup Series driver championship point standings.

KYLE BUSCH QUOTES:

In the next couple of weeks, you race at Phoenix Raceway and Las Vegas Motor Speedway. When do you get a feel for what the No. 8 team has?

“I would say after Las Vegas would be a good opportunity to assess where you’re at, work on your program, figure out what’s good, what’s not, and try to make it better.”

On the Welcome, N.C. campus, everyone is trying to be one team involved. What do you think of that philosophy about Kaulig Racing and RCR working together better?

“I mean, obviously, that’s what it’s all about. Four cars will be stronger than two. I appreciate everybody at Kaulig for what they do to help us and vice versa, with us (RCR) helping them. It’s a mutual thing and being stronger together. I feel like the first three weeks of the season have really been a benefit of that. We’ve seen the positive in it so far and I hope it continues.”

Jesse Love and the No. 2 Samsara Chevrolet at Phoenix Raceway… Jesse Love has made two career NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at Phoenix Raceway, earning two top-six results while piloting the No. 2 Whelen Chevrolet. Throughout his career at the Arizona oval, the Menlo Park, California native has completed over 1,000 laps at the one-mile track. Love has one NASCAR Truck Series start at Phoenix, posting a fourth-place result (2023) in just his third series event. In addition, Love has seven starts in ARCA Menards Series competition at the facility, posting a best finish of second (2022) and three top-10 results.

Points Check… Through three races, Love holds the second position in the Xfinity Series driver championship point standings. The 20-year-old is 13-points behind leader Austin Hill.

About Samsara… Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations® Cloud, which is a platform that enables organizations that depend on physical operations to harness Internet of Things (IoT) data to develop actionable insights and improve their operations. Meet Love… On Saturday, March 8 at 12:20 p.m. local time, Love and his RCR teammate, Hill, are scheduled to sign autographs at the RCR Merchandise Trailer located in the Midway at Phoenix Raceway. Stop by to meet the young gun and purchase new No. 2 gear.

JESSE LOVE QUOTE:

What is the outlook heading into Phoenix Raceway for the first time this season? “We were good enough in the fall last year to win the race. We led laps and had a shot at winning the race before the contact at the end. Danny (Stockman, crew chief) needed to find a little bit more in the car and I needed to find a little bit more behind the wheel. Which I think we both have done since we left Phoenix in November. Phoenix is a place that the No. 2 team needs to keep doing what we have been doing there and we will have a good shot to win.”

Austin Hill and the No. 21 Bennett Transportation and Logistics Chevrolet at Phoenix Raceway… Austin Hill has six career NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at Phoenix Raceway, earning a best finish of fourth last spring (2024) while piloting the No. 21 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet. Most recently at the Arizona speedway, the Winston, Georgia native competed in the Championship 4 and posted his fifth consecutive top-10 result at the facility. In addition, Hill has five NASCAR Truck Series starts at Phoenix, notching one pole (2019) and one top-10 result (2021).

Did You Know? Hill is one of only two drivers who have finished inside the top-10 in each of the last five Xfinity Series races at Phoenix Raceway.

Top of the Standings… Through three races, Hill remains the Xfinity Series driver championship points leader. The 30-year-old holds a 13-point lead over second-place Jesse Love.

Meet Hill… On Saturday, March 8 at 12:20 p.m. local time, Hill and his RCR teammate, Love, are scheduled to sign autographs at the RCR Merchandise Trailer located in the Midway at Phoenix Raceway. Stop by to meet the points leader and purchase new No. 21 gear.

AUSTIN HILL QUOTES:

How are you approaching Phoenix Raceway this weekend?

“I’m coming into this weekend with the same mindset as I did last November when we were racing for a championship. I’m approaching it like it’s the championship race again and we have to go win. Our No. 21 team knows how hard it is to get back to the Championship 4, but this weekend is our opportunity to make sure we learn everything possible before coming back in the fall.”

What more do you need to win the race compared to last year’s championship race?

“Last fall, our car was a little free in Stage 1. We needed to be tightened up a bit to have rear grip, but we went too far with the adjustment. To run with the No. 7, who most likely will be the car to beat once again, we need more overall grip without losing the front end. This is an issue that RCR has had collectively at Phoenix the last couple of years. We are normally pretty close – a top-five car – but then once you tighten the balance, it hurts the handling overall. We need to make our adjustment window larger to open up what changes we can make during the race.”

Record Entry for This Weekend’s Historic Sebring Classic 12 Hour Presented by Mission Foods

  • HSR’s Biggest Season-Opening Race at Sebring International Raceway Attracts Over 260 Entries for the HSR Sebring Classic 12 Hour Presented by Mission Foods and the HSR Sebring Historics
  • HSR Sebring Classic 12 Hour Presented by Mission Foods Kicks Off Two-Week Sports Car Racing Celebration Leading Into The 73rd Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring

SEBRING, Florida (March 5, 2025) – A robust and record list of over 260 entries have been received by Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) for this weekend’s season-opening HSR Sebring Classic 12 Hour presented by Mission Foods and the accompanying HSR Sebring Historics at Sebring International Raceway, March 6 – 9. The still-growing entry list is already the largest for a season-opening HSR race weekend at Sebring and the biggest HSR Classic 12 Hour field of this decade.

HSR Sebring Classic 12 Entry List (see below)

Fueling the record popularity is the move by HSR and Sebring International Raceway officials to make the HSR Sebring Classic 12 Hour presented by Mission Foods HSR’s season-opening event the ideal lead-in to next weekend’s 73rd running of the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. Since its introduction in 2016, the Sebring Classic 12 has closed the HSR season each December, but the schedule shift now creates a two-week motorsports celebration that will be sports car racing heaven for fans and competitors alike.

Even better, this weekend’s race is also the first event in the inaugural season of the HSR Classic Endurance Championship presented by Mission Foods, the first major endurance race championship in the U.S. for vintage and historic sports cars. The Mission Foods series awards the top performers in the season’s four HSR Classic Endurance Championship races at Sebring, Watkins Glen International, Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta and Daytona International Speedway.

The Sebring Classic 12 opener features four period-correct Run Groups each taking to the track three times in succession on Saturday before fourth and final rounds on Sunday to determine the quartet of overall winners. The weekend also features the HSR Sebring Historics that launch the season-long championships for the WeatherTech Sprint, Sasco Sports International/American Challenge, HSR Global GT and B.R.M. Endurance Challenge racing series.

The packed schedule also includes the season-opening races for HSR’s pair of premier series introduced last year. The second season of the HSR Prototype Challenge presented by IMSA opens with an expanded format that now includes four different classes of modern prototypes recently retired from contemporary competition. After showcasing only the LMP3 class in last year’s inaugural season, the revamped championship now includes divisions for LMP1, Dpi, DP, PC and other classes, in addition to LMP3.

The other premier series starting this weekend at Sebring is the popular HSR NASCAR Classic that runs a full season in 2025 after a successful inaugural three-race launch last year. Similar to the HSR Prototype Challenge concept, NASCAR Classic is open to modern stock cars of various generations and specifications that are retired from current competition.

For more information, please visit www.HSRRace.com. For race event schedules and more for this weekend’s HSR Sebring Classic 12 Hour presented by Mission Foods, please visit the event page at HSR Sebring Classic 12.

Tickets are directly available for the HSR Sebring Classic 12 Hour presented by Mission Foods exclusively at www.SebringRaceway.com and may be purchased at the track’s Gate 3 Ticket Office.

What to Do After a Car Accident: A Step-by-Step Guide

Photo by Mike Bird at pexels.com

The last thing any driver wants on the road is to be involved in a car accident. This scary experience can leave you with lasting injuries and a general fear of the road. However, the unfortunate reality of driving is that accidents do happen and, sometimes, they are unavoidable no matter how good of a driver you may be. Knowing what to do after an accident happens can help you prevent additional injury while also protecting yourself legally. To that end, learn every single step you need to take during the immediate aftermath and near future following a car accident.

1. Ensure Safety First

First and foremost, you will want to check if you were hurt in a car crash or if anyone else was injured. This factor will be the indicator of whether emergency services need to be called, which is why it’s first on the list. Assess yourself, your passengers, and anyone else, and don’t hesitate to call 911 if you are uncertain about any injuries. Going beyond your immediate safety, assuming it is safe to do so, try to move your vehicle to the side of the road.

Car accidents rarely occur in convenient places and leaving your vehicles in the middle of the road can lead to secondary accidents that cause other injuries. Once you have moved your car to the side of the road, flip on your hazard lights to alert other drivers to your presence. Only stay put if there are severe injuries where it is not safe to move or if the traffic around you is moving too quickly for you to safely get all vehicles out of the road.

2. Call the Police

In truth, this step is not always necessary, but it is certainly helpful. Even for minor accidents, an official police report of the event can be pivotal for insurance claims or legal battles. Officers will show up to document the scene and make an initial determination of whether or not any traffic laws were violated. When speaking to law enforcement, simply stick to the facts and don’t admit any fault, even if you aren’t entirely sure what happened. Request the police report as soon as it becomes available as well.

Be aware that in some jurisdictions, police officers will not be dispatched for a minor accident, especially one with no injuries. If the police don’t come for this reason, document the accident yourself using all of the following steps.

3. Gather Evidence and Exchange Information

The third step to follow after getting into a car accident is perhaps the most important of the bunch: document anything and everything. There are a slew of details you should try to gather in the form of photo and video evidence, but the most pertinent pieces of information are as follows:

  • The full name and contact information of the other driver(s)
  • The other driver’s license number
  • The license plate number of any cars involved
  • The other driver’s insurance provider and policy number
  • The date, time, and location of the accident
  • Photos or videos of the weather and road conditions
  • Photos or videos of the damage to all vehicles involved.
  • Photos or videos of the injuries to anyone at the scene.

When taking photos or videos of the scene, try to get both wide shots of the accident scene and close-ups of the damage to any vehicles. You should also make an effort to record traffic signals, particularly if they are malfunctioning, road signs, skid marks, and other signs of the crash. Assuming there were witnesses present, you should also politely walk up and ask them to provide a statement on what they saw, along with their contact information. It’s a good idea to consult a car accident lawyer in Boston to discuss what legal options are available after gathering all the evidence at the scene.

4. Notify Your Insurance Company

Shortly after the accident happens, ideally within 24 hours, you should report the incident to your insurance company, regardless of who was at fault. Most insurance companies require timely reporting anyway, and doing so within a day will meet the criteria for the vast majority of providers. When reporting the crash, only give factual details and avoid speculating about who was at fault and why.

During the claims process, you can expect your insurance company to investigate the accident. They may ask for additional details from you, like medical records or repair estimates, so provide everything as promptly as possible. If an adjuster needs to call you, avoid giving any recorded statements without first getting legal advice (particularly if you believe you were at fault). Also, never accept a settlement offer before fully understanding the full extent of the damages you have suffered.

Insurance rules and claim practices can vary in different regions, and that includes drivers in the Lehigh Valley area. A local Motor Vehicle Accident lawyer in Lehigh Valley can explain how Pennsylvania insurance laws apply to your situation and help you respond to adjusters in a way that protects your rights. This support gives you more confidence as you work through repairs, medical treatment, and any negotiations with insurers.

5. Seek Medical Attention

While this fifth step can sometimes run concurrently with the fourth, it is necessary nonetheless. Some injuries, such as whiplash or internal bleeding, may not show symptoms immediately after an accident, and while you feel fine, there may be something wrong that you can’t see. Seek out medical attention for this reason and for the fact that it creates a record that can be used to support injury claims if you are in fact hurt.

If you have any serious injuries, you should go to the doctor right away, but at least try to get an appointment within 24-48 hours if you have any pain, dizziness, or discomfort following the crash. Keep any records of your doctor visits, diagnoses, prescriptions, and more so that you have evidence to provide if the situation devolves into a lawsuit.

Bounce back from a car accident successfully

Car accidents are scary experiences that can leave you scarred for years to come. However, by handling the situation properly by ensuring safety, contacting the authorities, documenting everything, informing your insurance company, and understanding your legal options, you can handle the aftermath successfully. Always stay calm after a crash and remember to contact a car accident attorney if you think there is more to your case than meets the eye.

 QUOTABLE /

Kyle Larson, driver of the No. 5 Chevrolet, on the importance of running well at Phoenix Raceway: “Based on where we finished in the past few finales, I think Hendrick Motorsports as a whole wants to improve at Phoenix (Raceway). We’ve had good runs and I know (No. 5 crew chief) Cliff (Daniels) and everyone on the (No.) 5 team and Hendrick Motorsports are working hard so that we can take a step up in Phoenix.”

Chase Elliott, driver of the No. 9 Chevrolet, on the season so far and heading into Phoenix: “I think right now, for us, we just want to have a good clean race. The team has put in the work to bring fast Chevrolets for me each week, but we’ve unfortunately had something happen to us in every race. To bounce back last week and get a top five was big. Phoenix hasn’t necessarily been a strong track for us in the Next Gen, but we made some headway there last fall, so I’m looking forward to seeing how we stack up this weekend.”

William Byron, driver of the No. 24 Chevrolet, on the season thus far: “We definitely have some good momentum on our side and are really clicking and executing at a high level. Last weekend showed that especially. We unloaded a little bit off in COTA but dialed it in by race time. Hopefully this weekend we unload closer to where we need to be and go from there. This is obviously a crucial track to gain any notes you can at.”

Alex Bowman, driver of the No. 48 Chevrolet, on challenges of Phoenix Raceway: “Phoenix is a very interesting and tricky track. Turns one and two are very flat and then you have turns three and four that have banking so you can’t set your car up for one corner you have to compromise from end to end. A lot of the other tracks we visit are cut and dry and Phoenix is far from that. Phoenix has been rough on the 48 team the last few years. I just want to go there, run well, be competitive and hopefully be there at the end. Winning at my hometown track would be pretty cool.”

TEAM CHEVY NASCAR RACE ADVANCE: Phoenix Raceway

TEAM CHEVY ADVANCE
Phoenix Raceway
March 8-9, 2025

The 2025 west coast swing will kick off this weekend, with the NASCAR Cup and Xfinity Series taking on the first stop of Phoenix Raceway.

The two-day event will get underway with the Xfinity Series in Saturday’s GOVX 200, where Chevrolet drivers will look to keep the Bowtie brand undefeated following three-straight trips to victory lane to start the season. The weekend will conclude with NASCAR’s top division in Sunday’s Shriners Children’s 500. Part two of the trip out west will see the Craftsman Truck Series rejoin the action for a tripleheader weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

CHEVROLET AT PHOENIX RACEWAY:

The NASCAR Cup Series has a 57-race history at Phoenix Raceway, with Chevrolet pacing the series with 27 all-time victories at the one-mile Arizona venue. The Bowtie brand made its first trip to victory lane in just the series’ third appearance at the track with NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt, Sr. (Nov. 1990). Chevrolet’s winning record at the track includes a streak of 10-straight triumphs logged between Nov. 2005 and April 2010 – a record that still stands today. The manufacturer’s driver lineup sees five past Phoenix winners, with Kyle Busch topping that list with three career wins at the track (second-best among all active drivers). Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson have one win a piece to their names, with each of those victories leading to their respective championship titles. Most recently, it was William Byron and Ross Chastain that tallied a win under the Chevrolet banner at Phoenix Raceway – delivering the manufacturer a season sweep at the track in 2023.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series saw the addition of Phoenix Raceway added to its schedule in Nov. 1999 – a series debut that saw career Chevrolet driver, Jeff Gordon, take the victory. In 46 races, seven different drivers have earned a combined nine victories at the track with Chevrolet – most recently in March 2022 alongside JR Motorsports with Noah Gragson behind the wheel. Just four full-time Xfinity Series competitors have found victory lane at Phoenix Raceway, with reigning champion, Justin Allgaier, leading the way as the series’ only active two-time winner at the track (March 2017; Nov. 2019).

LEGGE SET FOR CUP SERIES DEBUT

For the second consecutive weekend, Chevrolet will see a first-time competitor in NASCAR’s top division. Katherine Legge is set to make her NASCAR Cup Series debut this weekend – piloting the No. 78 Chevrolet entry for Live Fast Motorsports. Legge’s debut will go down in series’ history as the first time in seven years that a female has competed in NASCAR’s top division. The 44-year-old England native will become just the second female driver in series’ history to compete at Phoenix Raceway – joining Danica Patrick, who has 11 career Cup Series starts at the track.

Legge has previously tallied five career NASCAR Xfinity Series starts, with her most recent coming at Road America in 2023. Her racing resume expands across a variety of racing disciplines, including 19 starts in the NTT INDYCAR Series – four of which have come in the Indianapolis 500. She has also made 92 starts in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship – earning four wins, 11 podium finishes and two poles.

THREE-FOR-THREE

Connor Zilisch was able to keep Chevrolet undefeated in the NASCAR Xfinity Series this season by earning the victory and an early ticket into the series’ playoffs at Circuit of The Americas last weekend. The victory – his second in just seven career starts in the series – didn’t come easy for the rising star. To no surprise, the 18-year-old Mooresville, North Carolina, native started his trip to Texas by earning the pole position for Saturday’s event. But the race quickly became an uphill battle when Zilisch was forced to start at the tail end of the field due to a penalty endured at the end of the first stage for pitting under an untimely caution. Battling back through the field, Zilisch went on to tally a race-high 26 laps led en route to the victory. Zilisch is the third different Chevrolet driver to reach victory lane in the series this season, with Richard Childress Racing teammates, Austin Hill and Jesse Love, each claiming a playoff berth in the series’ first two events of the season.

 BYRON, HILL ON TOP

Heading into the doubleheader weekend, Chevrolet sits atop the driver points standings in both the NASCAR Cup and Xfinity Series.

Reigning DAYTONA 500 champion, William Byron, came just short of a repeat trip to victory lane last weekend at Circuit of The Americas – ultimately taking the checked flag in the runner-up position. The 27-year-old Charlotte, North Carolina, native was one of just six drivers to earn points in both stages at the Austin, Texas, circuit. With his second top-five finish of the season, Byron was able to move to the top of the points standings with a two-point lead over former champion Ryan Blaney. In the Next Gen era at Phoenix Raceway, Byron has collected a victory (March 2023) and four top-six finishes.

Coming off a fourth-place finish at Circuit of The Americas, Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Hill was able to maintain the points lead – heading into the first stop of the west coast swing with a 13-point advantage over second-place Jesse Love. The 30-year-old Winston, Georgia, native quickly rebounded from a disappointing season-opener with a dominating performance at his home track of Atlanta Motor Speedway – a race that ended with a trip to victory lane and the series’ second ticket into the playoffs. With a fourth-place finish last weekend, Hill is one of just two drivers that has a pair of top-fives to his name thus far this season. Hill has just six career Xfinity Series starts at Phoenix Raceway, but he has earned top-10 finishes in all but one of those races, including a career-high fourth-place finish in the series’ spring race at the track last season.

· Chevrolet will pace the field in the doubleheader weekend at Phoenix Raceway, with the Corvette Stingray leading both the NASCAR Cup and Xfinity Series to the green flag in their respective events.

Kyle Larson – one win (2021)
Chase Elliott – one win (2020)

QUOTABLE QUOTES:

Ross Chastain, No. 1 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet

What do you think about the option tire at Phoenix?

“I don’t have any thoughts on it yet until I run it at the track, so time will tell.”

It was announced a few weeks ago that Kubota extended their partnership with Trackhouse, how does that feel?

“It’s a great feeling when a sponsor sees the value in the partnership. It’s especially great that Kubota is so authentic to who I am, and my background in agriculture. I’ve really enjoyed the partnership and I’m looking forward to the years to come. This weekend at Phoenix is the first race this season with the Kubota scheme on the car and it includes their Orange Days annual sale event. It’s a great time to buy a Kubota, I know that much!”

Austin Dillon, No. 3 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet

The restarts are wild, sometimes we will run three, four, and fine wide getting into turn one. On Sunday, Phoenix Raceway could be a good place for the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops/ Winchester Chevrolet team to come out with a top 10”

Justin Haley, No. 7 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet

What are your thoughts on Phoenix?

“Phoenix is always a fan favorite and that makes it fun for the driver. The track is so difficult and it’s tough to have a well-balanced car in all four corners and throughout the race. It keeps you guessing all weekend. I competed in the No. 7 at Phoenix last fall with Spire, so I’m excited to use what we’ve learned since then and continue building momentum.”

Kyle Busch, No. 8 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet

We’ve got the two tire combinations. We got the primary tire, a little bit harder tire, and an option tire, softer tire, two sets for the race. Do you like this option of having two different types of tires? I think we all kind of feel like it’s a little bit of a science project to see what they can carry back there in November, but do you like doing this?

“Yeah, I don’t mind it. You know, I think throwing a little bit different stuff out there to kind of see how it works and what it works like in competition because testing it versus racing it is entirely different. I liked how the race went at Richmond. I thought it was kind of cool to kind of see, you know, green flag pit stops and guys coming out on different tires and how you ran those tires and how you were able to preserve the tire or get your positions when you wanted to get your positions to kind of get yourself further up in the running order.

So, I didn’t mind it. I think playing with that again here for Phoenix is a good idea to kind of see where we need to be and what we need to come back with for the fall for the championship race. But, you know, what was interesting last year is we ran a more traditional shared setup with all the Chevy group guys at Richmond, and we were going to run, I think we were in third or fourth or something like that.

We were okay, and Austin ran kind of an off-the-wall different setup, and he was not very good on the control tires, but he was really good on the soft tires, where I felt opposite with that. I felt really good on the control tires and not so good on the soft tires. So, we’re trying to take the notes of both of those things and kind of mirror them together as much as you can to then be able to go out there and be good on both sets. So, I think that’s what everybody pulled from last year and how they’re going to attack this race.”

You sit ninth in the points. Where do you feel like you guys are at maybe compared to a year ago or maybe where 2024 ended?

“Yeah, I would like to think we’re ahead of the game there. We’re in a better spot or in a better position. You know, we had some good hires over the off season, some good engineers and some good people from other teams to kind of up our performance. Obviously, anytime you do that and you chase good people, that’s what you’re going for, right? You’re going for the performance that they can bring to the table. So fresh ideas, different things and whatnot.

But also just, you know, the, the way Randall and I have worked over the years, we’ve, we’ve been able to do all we feel like we could do and get our balances with our race cars as close as we can get them at the racetracks. And they just weren’t fast enough, you know, but, two super speedways, which I feel like RCR has always had superspeedway speed since I’ve been there with this new next gen and it we’ve had opportunities to win those races. I feel like we’ve given more away maybe than we’ve won for sure.

But you know, going to being in the top three in position to win the 500 and getting crashed out there was definitely a bummer. You know, just wish that race could have played out the last 15 laps to the end and seeing how everybody would have stacked up. And then, you know, Atlanta, we were fortunate enough to kind of miss some of those wrecks that happened a little bit in front of us there.

But again, we were, we were the leader there late, I think within the last 20 laps, we led some laps and we restarted up front and we just didn’t quite have when it seemed like when it was a Ford pushing a Chevy or vice versa, you know, when you can keep those Ford separated, you had a better shot of being able to race in the top four spots and race for a win. But then once two of the Ford’s got together, it seemed to streamline that line and they were able to kind of get ahead of us a little bit. So we got shuffled back a little bit.

But again, you know, decent speed there to be able to go for a win. And then code obviously felt really good to race up front and lead those laps and be there like that. I think that’s all really good, right? So hats off to RCR, ECR engines, everybody in Welcome, North Carolina for working as hard as they do and busting their butts as hard as they do and putting in the grit and you know, those men and women there certainly have more grit than anybody.

They’re not going to outwork us. That’s for sure. But I think the next test is definitely going to be the next two weeks going to Phoenix, the short track, a place where we kind of struggled as of late to see how we can turn that program around.

I feel like a legit top-10 run and top-10 finish there would be a win for us right now. And just trying to turn that table, get a good feeling racecar and a good car that we could drive and have speed with. And then going back to Vegas, you know, a place where it’s home for me and I’d really love to win there and run well there.

We were fast there last year and we’d love to repeat that speed to go race for a win there.”

Ty Dillon, No. 10 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet

“Phoenix is a racetrack that I might have the most experience of any racetrack. I ran a lot of K&N West races there early in my career, so I’ve raced there a lot. It’s a track that I’ve always had a good, natural feel around. When they repaved it and changed the location of the start finish line, it changed a little bit for me, but still a place that I look at as an opportunity because I feel very confident in how to navigate the racetrack. Phoenix kicks off our first run of normal tracks that you see in the meat of our season, and I’m excited to see where we stand there.”

AJ Allmendinger, No. 16 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet

“Phoenix has been a difficult track for us on both the Xfinity and Cup side. It will be the first true oval test of all the new ideas and hard work that were put in over the off season so I’m looking forward to getting on-track with the opportunity to be better than we have in the past. Expectation wise, I think if we can run inside the top 20, that would be a really good run there.”

Michael McDowell, No. 71 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet

What is it like returning home and racing in front of so many family members and friends?

“Any time you get to race in front of your hometown crowd, it’s fun. It’s great to see friends and family and catch up. It’s a long season, so having an opportunity to go home and see everybody is fun. The season is off to a pretty good start. We haven’t gotten all we wanted, but we’ve managed the races well and got ourselves sitting pretty good in the points. Our team is building some really great momentum.”

What is your anticipation like for this weekend’s events at Phoenix?

“It’s the first short track of the year, so no different than these first few races. This weekend, we will see where we end up and how we unload with a new car and package, which is almost a new kind of direction. Phoenix has been good for me in the past, but we are going into a new season with a new team with fresh eyes and outlook. I am looking forward to having a 45-minute practice, which will be great to run through some of the things we want to work on and get comfortable with our Workforce Chevrolet and the new package. I will enjoy the weekend and try to keep this momentum going. It has been a good start to the year, and we want to keep the momentum up through the West Coast swing. We know every week is a new challenge and opportunity, and so far, we’ve made the most of them.”

Carson Hocevar, No. 77 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet

The No. 77 Spire Motorsports team has had a strong start to the season. How do you keep that going as the series moves on to a short track and an intermediate track in the coming weeks?

“This is where the real test starts and where we’ll see how we stack up against the other teams. We’ve shown that Spire Motorsports is committed to doing better and I think this past weekend at COTA, where all three of us were running in the top-half of the field, was a really good race for us. We’re improving as an organization and it’ll be interesting to see how that continues through the next few races.”

Shane van Gisbergen, No. 88 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet

Your development on ovals has progressed so quickly. Is there anyone that you try to learn from? How has the process of learning to race on ovals been for you?

“I learn from everyone. I study as much as I can and I’ve had some good teachers. I had Marcos Ambrose a lot last year and Kevin Harvick and I talk with Kevin this year whenever I need him. There is nothing like this type of racing anywhere in the world on ovals. Every week, even Atlanta a couple of weekends ago, I was learning something every lap. You just have to keep your eyes open and keep learning and trying to evolve. It’s easy to forget these guys have done that type of racing since they were kids. There are some guys that I’m two seconds a lap quicker than around a road course, but on an oval, they are unbelievable.”

Being full-time at Trackhouse now, what is it like working with Justin (Marks, Founder of Trackhouse Racing) behind the scenes?

“Even though I was racing fulltime Xfinity last year, I still spent a lot of time and spoke to him quite a lot. He is such a forward-thinking person and it’s amazing with how in tune with he is with everything and how good of a person he is too. I’m truly enjoying my time at Trackhouse, surrounded by Justin and my teammates.”

Daniel Suarez, No. 99 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet

Are you excited about the return of Daniel’s Amigos to the track this weekend?

“I always look forward to Amigos. Coca-Cola and NASCAR work with the track and put on a great event. It’s a lot of fun for the guests and it’s always fun for me. Whenever we host the Amigos it makes me feel like I am at home. It’s also fun to bring people to the track for the first time. NASCAR in person is a cool experience and I hope this allows them to see what a fun sport we have. It’s fun to spend time with them in the morning and here their stories and impressions of NASCAR. It’s easy to find them in the stands too. I hope we can give them a lot to cheer about this weekend.”

Do you get extra motivated racing in the West?

“Yeah, of course. I think that every time that I come to the west coast to Las Vegas, Sonoma, and when we ran Auto Club Speedway it was very, very big. Phoenix and Los Angeles – it’s amazing to feel an incredible amount of support from the Latino community, and I feel very, very proud to be the face of this community in the Cup Series. We embrace it and I’m very happy that the race tracks embrace it with us.”

Connor Zilisch, No. 88 JR Motorsports Chevrolet

How much did you learn in your first NXS race at Phoenix last fall?

“Phoenix is a place that I’ve already been to once before and I’m excited to go back there with the experience that I have. I made a mistake in qualifying there last year that I’ll learn from. It was definitely helpful for me to get those laps. Phoenix is a crucial race on our schedule because it’s the last race of the championship. I’m excited to go back there this weekend and build on our fourth-place finish there last fall.”

The restarts at Phoenix are intense with three and sometimes four-wide racing. How do you manage that?

“With how wide that track is, there is a lot you can do on restarts and that’s very challenging. I’m going to go back and look at my notes and watch races to see what works best because restarts are crucial at Phoenix.”

Chase Briscoe, Joe Gibbs Racing successfully overturn Daytona 500 penalty

Photo by Patrick Sue-chan for SpeedwayMedia.com

Chase Briscoe and Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) have won their appeal attempt in overturning an L2-level penalty levied from NASCAR following this year’s 67th running of the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway.

On February 19th, Briscoe’s No. 19 JGR Toyota team was issued an L2-level penalty for violating Sections 14.1.C&D&S and 14.5.8.A from the NASCAR Rule Book that pertained to the Overall Assembled Vehicle Rules and Spoiler. The note emphasizes that a single source supplied part was modified, which was the spoiler base and it could not be modified since it is a single-source part. The penalty was issued three days after Briscoe had finished in fourth place from pole position during the Daytona 500 event and where NASCAR took Briscoe’s No. 19 entry to the NASCAR Research & Development Center in Concord, North Carolina, for further analysis.

As a result, James Small, crew chief for JGR’s No. 19 team, was issued a four-race suspension, which would have spanned through the first half of March, while the No. 19 team was both docked 100 driver/owner points and 10 Playoff points. In addition, the organization was fined $100,000.

Not long after the penalty was levied to JGR, the organization announced intentions to appeal it, which kept Small atop the No. 19 pit box. Exactly two weeks later, the organization prevailed and had their penalties rescinded after the National Motorsports Appeals Panel ruled that the organization did not violate any rule(s) within the penalty notice.

Following the ruling of the penalty being overturned, the Appeals Panel released the following statement.

“The panel believes that the elongation of some of the holes on the number 19 Cup car spoiler base is caused by the process of attaching that specific spoiler base to the rear deck and not modification of the single source part.”

The panel members included Mr. Dixon Johnston, Mr. Hunter Nickell and Ms. Cathy Rice.

With the reinstated points, Briscoe, who was initially scored with -28 points, will climb up to tie with Carson Hocevar for 14th place in the 2025 driver’s standings at 72 points apiece.

Briscoe, the 2024 Southern 500 champion from Mitchell, Indiana, is campaigning in his first Cup season with JGR after spending the previous four driving for the defunct Stewart-Haas Racing organization. He claimed the pole position for this year’s Daytona 500 with a pole-winning lap at 182.745 mph in 49.249 seconds, where he also delivered Toyota’s first pole for the Great American Race. Since finishing in fourth place during the 500-mile season-opening event, Briscoe is coming off respective finishes of 21st and 14th from Atlanta Motor Speedway and Circuit of the Americas, respectively.

With his points reinstated, Chase Briscoe’s 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season continues with the upcoming Shriners Children’s 500 at Phoenix Raceway. The event is scheduled to occur this Sunday, March 9th, and air at 3:30 p.m. ET on FS1.
