Cadillac at Road America: Strong qualifying efforts

Cadillac at Road America: Streak extended
Cadillac Racing GTP entries qualify third, fifth for 2-hour, 40-minute race

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (Aug. 3, 2024) – Cadillac Racing continued its run of strong Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) qualifying in the IMSA SportsCar Weekend at Road America.

The No. 01 Cadillac V-Series.R, with Renger van der Zande behind the wheel in the 15-minute session for the second consecutive event, recorded a best lap of 1 minute, 48.920 seconds on the sweeping 4.048-mile, 14-turn circuit to qualify third.

The No. 01 Cadillac V-Series.R, with van der Zande sharing driving duties with Sebastien Bourdais in the 2-hour, 40-minute race Sunday, has not qualified lower than third in each of the six IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship races.

Van der Zande missed securing the team’s fifth front-row spot by .057 of a second.

Pipo Derani drove the No. 31 Whelen Cadillac V-Series.R to fifth in the 10-car GTP field with a best of 1:49.408 of his eight laps. Derani earned the pole in the 2023 race at Road America.

The No. 10 Acura ARX-06 earned the pole with a lap of 1:48.601. Nine of the 10 cars took laps in the GTP session.

The No. 01 Cadillac V-Series.R, which has claimed podium finishes in four of the past five races, sits second in the GTP team/driver standing, and qualified higher than the title-leading No. 7 Porsche 963.

“I think the car was fantastic, the lap was really good and the team nailed the setup,” said van der Zande, who recorded three consecutive podium finishes (2020-2022) with Cadillac Racing at Road America. “P3 is better than P2 on the grid because you’re on the inside and can follow the lead car into the tight Turn 1.”

Peacock will stream the race live at 3 p.m. ET Sunday for U.S. viewers, while IMSA.TV and the IMSA YouTube Channel (youtube.com/IMSAOfficial) will stream the race live for the global audience. The race will be broadcast on IMSA.com, RadioLeMans.com and SiriusXM (XM 206, Web/App 996).

Renger van der Zande, No. 01 Cadillac V-Series.R (qualified third; 1:48.920 on lap 6 of 7): “I think the car was fantastic, the lap was really good and the team nailed the setup. Altogether, we should be happy where we are to start the race. P3 is better than P2 on the grid because you’re on the inside and can follow the lead car into the tight Turn 1. I think tomorrow is going to be a tough day in terms of raceability. You’ll have to be very clever and hang in there. So far, so good and proud to make a lap happen in qualifying.”

Pipo Derani, No.. 31 Whelen Cadillac V-Series.R (qualified fifth; 1:49.408 on lap 5 of 6): “I think we have improved the car over the weekend. We were struggling a bit to get the tires to work properly. Overall, I thought it was a clean qualifying and thought my lap was pretty good. I didn’t leave much out there, but unfortunately it was not enough to be in the top three at least. We’ll take the positives that we improved over the weekend and keep improving in the race.”

  • In advance of NASCAR’s Playoff wildcard weekend Oct. 11-13, paving has begun on a section of the infield road course designed to create more passing zones
  • Once paving of the infield section is complete, officials will begin reconfiguring the frontstretch chicane before the pivotal playoff cutoff race weekend
  • Tickets for the Bank of America ROVAL™ 400 weekend are available online at charlottemotorspeedway.com or by calling 800-455-FANS (3267); Kids 12 and under get in the entire weekend for just $10 with an adult

CONCORD, N.C. (Aug. 2, 2024) – With NASCAR still in the midst of a competition break for the Paris 2024 Olympics, officials at Charlotte Motor Speedway are hard at work preparing for the pivotal Bank of America ROVAL™ 400 Playoff wildcard weekend, including reconfiguring portions of the innovative 2.28-mile circuit to create more passing zones and white-knuckled excitement.

New paving is underway on a section of the infield between Turn 6 and Turn 7, designed to create a longer infield straightway leading into a tight, hairpin corner. Additional work is scheduled later this summer on the frontstretch chicane, which will be reshaped to create a harder braking zone in the final corners of the challenging 17-turn course.

“In just six short years, the ROVAL™ has created many unforgettable moments, from Ryan Blaney’s miraculous victory in the inaugural event and Chase Elliott’s unforgettable burnout in Heartburn Turn to AJ Allmendinger’s dramatic triumph for Kaulig Racing last season,” said Charlotte Motor Speedway President and General Manager Greg Walter. “These enhancements are designed to challenge drivers to further push their limits and race for the win in an event that will make or break the championship hopes of several Playoff contenders.”

Combined, the two enhancement projects will require 600 tons of asphalt, 23,000 square feet of cement-stabilized base and 1,000 cubic yards of dirt, with nearly all of the material utilized in the new portion of the course between Turns 6 and 7. The projects are expected to be complete by the end of August.

Fans will get their first glimpse of the all-new ROVAL™ during the pivotal NASCAR Playoffs Bank of America ROVAL™ 400 weekend, Oct. 11-13, when both the NASCAR Xfinity Series and Cup Series take the track in crucial cutoff events, with drivers battling to secure a spot in the Round of 8.

Weekend packages for the Bank of America ROVAL™ 400 start at just $99. Kids 12 and under get in all weekend for just $10 with an adult. Visit www.charlottemotorspeedway.com or call the ticket office at 800-455-FANS (3267) for tickets, upgrades and camping details.

Juan Pablo Montoya Returns to NASCAR in the No. 50 Mobil 1™ Toyota Camry XSE with 23XI Racing at Watkins Glen

Colombian Racing Legend Caps Final NASCAR Race Celebrating Mobil 1’s 50th Anniversary with dedicated paint scheme at Watkins Glen International

Huntersville, N.C. (Aug. 2, 2024) – 23XI Racing, in collaboration with the Mobil 1 brand, announced today that Juan Pablo Montoya, a decorated and championship-winning driver in multiple series, will compete in the No. 50 Mobil 1™ Toyota Camry XSE in the NASCAR Cup Series event at Watkins Glen International on September 15. The race will serve as the third and final event for the No. 50 Camry, which has competed at two previous races this season as part of a larger global celebration for the Mobil 1 brand to commemorate its 50th anniversary and as a third entry for 23XI.

The 50th-anniversary commemoration began at Circuit of the Americas in March with Japanese racing star Kamui Kobayashi behind the wheel, followed by rising NASCAR star Corey Heim at Nashville Superspeedway in June. For the final race of the celebration, it’s only fitting to close out with another elite international racing legend. Montoya, a NASCAR regular from 2007 to 2013, will make his first NASCAR Cup Series start since the 2014 Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In addition to NASCAR racing, the Colombian-born driver has competed full-time in Formula One, CART, IndyCar, and IMSA. He has won championships in CART (1999) and IMSA (2019) and is a two-time Indy 500 winner and three-time winner of the Rolex 24 at Daytona. Montoya has 12 overall starts at Watkins Glen in four different series. He has one win (2010), a pole award, three top-five, and five top-10 finishes in his seven starts there in the Cup Series.

“I’m looking forward to getting back in a Cup car and racing at Watkins Glen – a track I really enjoy and had the chance to experience earlier in my career,” shared Montoya. “It’s an honor to celebrate the Mobil 1 team’s remarkable legacy in racing and be recognized for my contributions to motorsports. The Mobil 1 brand was one of my first sponsors when I started racing, so to represent the brand again as they celebrate this milestone will be so special. I’m also excited to work with 23XI and experience what the team is building.”

While Watkins Glen is the final on-track NASCAR Cup Series event to celebrate the 50th anniversary for the Mobil 1 brand, fans can get an inside look into each race through a content series that will be released later this year on Mobil 1 Racing’s social channels. The series will highlight Kobayashi, Heim, and Montoya as they prepare for and take on the NASCAR Cup Series events – while driving the No. 50 Mobil 1 Toyota.

“Being able to have such an iconic driver like Juan Pablo Montoya to race the No. 50 car is the perfect way to complete the run of our gold paint scheme with 23XI Racing,” explained Katy Howell, Director of Global Sponsorships and Marketing Services, on behalf of the Mobil 1 team. “We worked with Juan Pablo at the beginning of his career, so to partner with a legendary driver such as himself as he returns to NASCAR is truly a dream come true. It has been an exciting year for our brand globally as we celebrate a historic milestone, and we are thrilled to have an all-star line-up for the third entry of the No. 50 Camry. Each of the drivers and teams showcase our true passion for racing that we celebrate in everything we do as a brand. It has been a privilege to continue to showcase how our products can help race teams and consumers get the most out of their engines.”

“Juan Pablo Montoya is a world-class driver who has won in everything he’s driven, and he will be a great closer to the 50th-anniversary celebration we’ve had in NASCAR with the No. 50 Mobil 1 Toyota,” said Steve Lauletta, President of 23XI Racing. “The events have highlighted racing legends as well as what’s next in motorsports, and 23XI has been honored to have been a part of adding to the Mobil 1 legacy and celebrating such a momentous occasion.”

As the Mobil 1 team continues to elevate the sport of racing and create unique experiences for drivers and fans, the brand has unveiled special paint schemes, liveries, and decals to honor its 50-year legacy in a variety of motorsports series around the world including IMSA, Formula One, INDYCAR, NHRA, Moto GP and many more.

With the upcoming Watkins Glen International event concluding the three-race run for the No. 50 Mobil 1 Toyota Camry XSE and NASCAR Cup Series celebrations for the Mobil 1 brand, fans can tune in to cheer on Montoya as he makes his incredible return to the sport and as races towards another win.

With a win at Kansas Speedway in May of 2022, Busch earned 23XI the team’s first-ever playoff berth. 23XI currently features the lineup of Bubba Wallace in the No. 23 Toyota Camry and Tyler Reddick in the No. 45 Toyota Camry. NASCAR Superstar Greg Biffle to Race in ARCA Menards Series West NAPA Auto Care 150 at Tri-City Raceway

Temperance, MI (August 2, 2024) – NASCAR Cup Series superstar Greg Biffle will compete in the upcoming ARCA Menards Series West NAPA Auto Care 150 at Tri-City Raceway on Saturday, August 10. Biffle will drive the No. 23 Sigma Performance Services Chevrolet for team owner Joe Farré.

Biffle will pay tribute to his Pacific Northwest heritage by racing in front of his hometown fans at the unique half-mile tri-oval. Biffle, born in Portland, was raised in nearby Vancouver, Washington and began his illustrious career racing on the bullrings across the northwest.

“I’m so excited to return to the famous Tri-City Raceway in the Tri-Cities, Washington area,” Biffle said. “I’m looking forward to returning to the track in an ARCA West car almost 30 years after I won the track championship. It’s an honor to drive for one of the teams well-known in the sport, and I’m very grateful for the opportunity to return to racing at this historic Northwest racetrack.”

Biffle, who was named one of NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers, is no newcomer to the ARCA Menards West Series. His impressive career includes competition in the former NASCAR Winston West Series in the early 1990s, a steppingstone in his ascent to the NASCAR Cup Series ranks.

Biffle is also a champion in both the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, winning the title in 2000, and the NASCAR Xfinity Series, winning the championship in 2002. He narrowly missed becoming the first driver to win a championship in all three NASCAR national series when he finished second in the NASCAR Cup Series standings in 2005, just 35 points behind champion Tony Stewart.

Biffle has 19 career NASCAR Cup Series wins, 20 Xfinity Series victories, and 17 wins in the Craftsman Truck Series.

He made two starts in what is now the ARCA Menards Series West, finishing fourth in his most recent start at Altamont Motorsports Park in 1996. He is a former track champion at Tri-City Raceway in the late model division.

“We couldn’t be prouder to be a part of Greg’s return to his racing roots in the Pacific Northwest,” said team owner Joe Farré, echoing Biffle’s excitement. “As a West Coast racer myself, I cannot thank the local supporters, track owners, series sponsor, and series officials enough for the opportunity to return to iconic racetracks like Tri-City Raceway. We need more people like Greg, the people of the Northwest racing community, and sponsors alike, to support the continuation of these tracks, teams, and series.

“Greg’s commitment to this race, the racing community, and growing teams like ours just goes to show how important it is that we all work together to keep racing alive in the Pacific Northwest, and across this great country,” Farré continued. “Racing is more than business or competition; to many, racing is a way of life, a way to socialize and gather as a community. Racing is an American pastime that we cannot allow to be lost.”

Sigma Performance Services won the ARCA Menards Series West race at Sonoma Raceway earlier in 2024 with current NASCAR Xfinity Series championship contender Sam Mayer driving. The team also finished third with 2014 ARCA Menards Series champion Mason Mitchell driving at Iowa Speedway in June.

The ARCA Menards Napa Auto Care 150 will be streamed live on FloRacing starting at 10:30 pm ET/7:30 pm PT.

The Rise of the Metal Wallet: Why It’s Becoming the New Standard

The New Face of a Minimalist Wallet – Re-Introducing Metal Wallets

To start with, a metal wallet is the new minimalist wallet. We’re not saying it, it’s the market that has decided. Minimalism is on the rise, and so is the demand for metal wallets.

But why are metal wallets like the shuffle minimalist wallet all the hype? The answer is in the sleek and stylish appearance of these accessories that boast functionality, security, and convenience features packed into a slick and slim profile.

We did our research and it turns out that most metal wallets are built with sturdy aluminum coating. The best providers are offering aluminum plus titanium-bodied metal wallets for extra durability.

Check Out the Shuffle Minimalist Wallet From Mobile Pixels Inc.

There are other reasons why metal wallets are competing fiercely against their traditional leather counterparts. Let’s understand the reasons better!

A Brief Overview of Metal Wallets – Is it a New Minimalist Wallet?

Understand what a typical metal wallet with a minimalistic profile has to offer. We take the Shuffle minimalist wallet, for example. It boasts a titanium and aluminum body with a sleek and stylish profile that is as slim as it gets.

It features an innovative deck-of-cards opening mechanism that presents a total of six cards with a single flick. And with a single flick, all the cards are back in place. It has a slim profile which makes it easy to carry around, even in your front pocket.

The RFID-blocking technology prevents contactless theft and attachments like a personalized silicone pouch at the front increase the card holding capacity by 2 (making it a total of 8 cards in hand).

Although you’ll be carrying 8 cards, it will feel as if you’re holding nothing more than a compact money clip or bill holder.

Moreover, a metal wallet like that has the ultimate minimalist appearance for today’s bleisure travelers, business professionals, and entrepreneurs. It doesn’t compromise on aesthetics.

Boasting a stylish exterior, it isn’t prone to bending and breaking so easily thanks to titanium’s high tensile strength. Here’s more!

  • RFID Blocking Technology

The best metal wallets come with RFID blocking technology which prevents “skimming” thefts. It happens when thieves use an RFID reader from afar to steal your card info. A metal wallet braced with RFID-blocking tech can prevent such mishaps.

Why is it important? Well, more business travelers and tourists prefer to have their international cards at hand.

A metal wallet facilitates secure carry to ensure quick and seamless payments when needed while ensuring protection against smart thieves who know how to use RFID to their advantage.

  • Slim and Pocket-Friendly

Over the years, minimalism has taken the fashion world by storm. People are going for minimal accessories that aren’t a sightful like the bulky leather wallets.

Metal wallets are slim, stack cards neatly, and create a presentable look. Their limited card-holding capacity encourages responsible carrying while discouraging wallet trash.

It is the ultimate friend of a business traveler or someone who loves efficient accessories. These types of minimalistic wallets slide into the pocket easily without making a noticeable bulge.

  • Eco-Friendly and Cruelty-Free

High-quality leather wallets are expensive and considered luxury items by many. However, the growing environmental concerns around the world have put light on the natural processes involving animal skin collection for accessories manufacturing.

Many activists and environmentalists actively advocate for alternatives to genuine leather products. Top providers have already tuned to these changing consumer demands and therefore, metal wallets are seen as a strong replacement for traditional leather carries.

  • Extended Durability

A metal wallet will endure more wear and tear before showing any signs of damage. They are sturdy, robust, and immune to shock damage. Moreover, the best metal wallets are also water and corrosion-resistant, making them the ultimate choice for those with an active lifestyle.

In simple words, metal wallets are becoming a standard among conscious consumers for their durability and impressive ability to potentially outlive their owners.

Compared to regular wallets that also don’t protect against RFID or NFC-based thefts, metal wallets maintain a professional and presentable look for a long time.

Key Takeaway

Manufacturers are crafting better-quality metal wallets while employing resources for innovative research and development. While the world is expected to go fully digital in the upcoming decades, cards will hold their significance in our day-to-day interactions.

From business meetings and consultations to grocery shopping and pharmacy bills, bank cards will still play a critical role. However, these cards have found a new home with the reintroduction of refined metal wallets with better tech, security, and convenience.

Metal wallets are considered the safest, most durable, and highly affordable wallet options among consumers. They prevent RFID theft and give your individual profile a stylish look by complementing your take on minimalism.

Greg Van Alst Looks to Turn the Tide at Elko Speedway

ELKO, Minn: Approaching the end of a four-race short track stretch in the ARCA Menards Series, Greg Van Alst eyes Saturday night’s Shore Lunch 250 presented by Dutch Boy Paints at Elko (Minn.) Speedway as a massive opportunity to rebound following a disappointing race last weekend at Salem Speedway.

Feeling optimistic about returning to one of his favorite Indiana short tracks, Van Alst felt like he had a chance of delivering back-to-back top-10 finishes, but a tango with a lapped car in the race not only destroyed his race car but Van Alst took a dive in the championship point standings too.

While the championship is still in reach, Van Alst is focused on solid finishes, knowing that top-five and top-10 finishes will deliver the points needed to climb back into the championship chatter.

Elko Speedway, the tight Minnesota short track, provides an opportunity for Van Alst and his team to rebound.

“Salem was definitely disappointing on my side,” explained Van Alst. As a team owner, it was great to see Isaac succeed with a strong lead lap sixth-place finish. He did a great job, and I’m really proud of him. Still, where there was a lot to be happy about with the No. 34 team, on the flip side, it was frustrating for our No. 35 team.

“We aren’t going to bow out now. We will keep digging, improve our cars, and vow not to go down without a fight for the series championship. Elko is a must-rebound for our team, and I know we can fight toward a top-five finish on Saturday night.”

The Anderson, Ind. native will make his second ARCA Menards Series start at Elko Speedway on Saturday night. In 2022, Van Alst started the night in his No. 35 Ford ninth and finished a respectable eighth.

Two years later, Van Alst doesn’t believe a top-10 will cut it. He is focused on earning his second top-five of the season just past the halfway point of the season.

“We’ve been telling everyone that we need to earn more top-five finishes,” Van Alst continued. “We are definitely working towards that. Last weekend was an example of our hard work with Isaac’s performance. The series is competitive right now. If you make one mistake, you can not only be outside the top 10 but out of the race.

“The Rev Racing team has done a good job of finishing races and minimizing mistakes. We need to take the remainder of the second half of the season to try and turn up the heat a little bit by making sure we are working even harder to be better off the hauler. If we can do that, our race program will elevate even more.

“That’s our goal anyways, and we’ll use what we learned at Elko in 2022 to our advantage this weekend.”

Saturday night’s 200-lap race will mark Van Alst’s 50th career ARCA start.

With 11 races completed, Van Alst sits third in the ARCA Menards Series championship standings, 13 points behind Lavar Scott for second, and 61 points behind championship leader Andrés Pérez de Lara, with nine races remaining this year.

Since 2002, Van Alst has 49 ARCA Menards Series starts to his credit, one win, five top-five and 24 top-10 finishes.

MOTORCYCLE RACER BRAYDIN COLLIE WILL MAKE SECOND LIGHTNING SPRINT CAR START SATURDAY

(Lakeside, CA, August 1, 2024) After an impressive debut for Sexton Gatlin Racing four weeks ago in the California Lightning Sprint Car Series at the Santa Maria Speedway, flat track motorcycle racer Braydin Collie will be back in action this Saturday, August 3rd, when the SoCal Lightning Sprint Car Series races at the Barona Speedway. Collie will be the only one flying the SGR flag on Saturday night as the other team drivers are on vacation.

Collie, who lives in El Cajon, California, got off to the typical start for a first-time open-wheel driver when he qualified 14th in the stout 14-car field. He followed that up with a seventh-place result in his heat. However, in the main, he figured it out. Starting 13th on the high-speed banked oval, he raced forward, passed seven cars, and finished sixth. Only one other driver passed more cars than the new kid on the track.

For Saturday’s race, Collie will be in the same #44 he drove at Santa Maria. It is the car three time lightning sprint car champion Brent Sexton drove to victory at Barona on May 25th.

Veteran Sexton and his 20-year-old son Grant will return to action at the Santa Maria Speedway a week from Saturday, August 10th, in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series. Brent will be 13th in Series points when he bumps off for hot laps on the night. Grant, who captured the series Rookie of the Year award in 2023, is two positions and 41 points behind his dad entering that race.

The last time the Lakeside, California-based duo visited Santa Maria on July 6th, Brent, 52, finished 15th in the 30-lap main. Grant, who turned 20 last month, was knocked out of the race early on and placed 20th.

The Sextons last raced on July 20th in the Ultimate Sprint Car Series, presented by Inland Rigging, at Ventura. Grant finished seventh in the A main that night. Brent finished seventh in the B main. That left him one spot shy of transferring to the A.

To see Collie in action in his second lightning sprint car race on Saturday at Barona, spectator gates will open at noon, and racing will begin at 6:00. Adult tickets are $20.00. For kids 7 to 17, admission is $10.00. Seniors, Military, and EMTs also get in for $10.00. Children 6 and under are free. Family packs of two adults and two kids are $50.00. Parking is free. The Barona Speedway is located at 1754 Wildcat Canyon Road, in Lakeside, California. The track website https://baronaspeedway.com/ and the phone number is (619) 994-6560.

Everything You Need to Know About the Qashqai 2024

Photo by Jameel Ismail on Unsplash

Overview

The Nissan Qashqai has been a staple in the mid-sized SUV market since its debut in 2007, with over four million units sold. The 2024 iteration brings several updates to this popular model, designed and built in Britain. While these changes might seem minor at first glance, they enhance the vehicle’s appeal without alienating its loyal customer base.

What Is It?

The Qashqai is Nissan’s best-selling mid-sized SUV. The 2024 model introduces a refreshed exterior and interior, maintaining the same reliable drivetrains. This update is part of the third generation, which first appeared in 2021. The Qashqai continues to offer a blend of practicality and value, making it a solid choice for families. The starting price is just over £30,000, with the popular e-Power model starting at £34,430.

Exterior Changes

The 2024 Qashqai boasts a noticeable facelift:

  • Front Design: A larger, hexagonal grille inspired by Samurai armor, new LED headlights, and sleek daytime running lights.
  • Rear Design: Slimmer rear lights and a redesigned bumper for a sportier look.
  • Wheels: New alloy designs up to 20 inches, with options for 18 and 19 inches.

The N-Design grade offers body-colored styling elements, giving the Qashqai a more premium appearance.

Interior and Technology

Inside, the Qashqai receives several upgrades:

  • Materials: New materials, including an Alcantara dash wrap.
  • Technology: A 360-degree camera for easier parking, Google integration in the Nissan Connected system, and advanced driver assistance features.
  • Safety: Compliance with new GSR2 safety regulations, adding features like a “transparent bonnet” for better visibility of the front wheels.

Powertrain Options

The 2024 Qashqai continues with its existing powertrains:

  • Mild Hybrid: Various power outputs with the option of all-wheel drive.
  • e-Power: The popular 187bhp drivetrain remains unchanged, offering a hybrid experience.

Space and Practicality

The Qashqai has always been known for its practical size and usability. It comfortably balances exterior dimensions with interior space, making it a great option for family transport.

Competitors

If the Qashqai doesn’t catch your interest, other mid-size SUVs offer similar practicality:

  • Skoda Karoq
  • Kia Sportage
  • Volkswagen Tiguan
  • Peugeot 3008
  • Seat Ateca
  • Ford Kuga (noted for its handling)

Verdict

The 2024 Nissan Qashqai is a solid, if not exciting, choice in the mid-sized SUV market. The updates improve its aesthetics and technology without drastic changes. It remains practical, comfortable, and reasonably priced, making it a dependable recommendation for those seeking reliable family transport.

In summary, the new Qashqai maintains its reputation as a smart, good-value SUV. While it may not thrill driving enthusiasts, it delivers on practicality and usability, making it an excellent choice for everyday driving needs.
